The Epson WorkForce ES-580W has significantly improved my workflow. The wireless capability means I can place it wherever it’s most convenient, and the duplex scanning ensures that I can quickly and efficiently handle all my scanning needs. The touchscreen is a game-changer, making the scanner incredibly easy to operate, even for those who aren’t particularly tech-savvy.
The build quality feels robust and durable, and the sleek design looks great in my office setup. It’s clear that Epson has paid attention to both functionality and aesthetics with this model.
In summary, the Epson WorkForce ES-580W Wireless Duplex Touchscreen Scanner is an outstanding product that offers excellent performance, ease of use, and high-quality results. Whether for personal use or a busy office, this scanner is a fantastic investment that I wholeheartedly recommend.

I purchased multiples of these because I was going to digitize my world. I hate having paper around. I remember reading that this was supposed to have a life of about 200,000 scans. Well, I haven’t even hit 5,000 scans yet and it no longer senses that paper is loaded to be scanned. I’ve done all of the trouble shooting. Nothing works. It’s out of the 1 year warranty.
It’s money down the drain. So, if you want to throw away $400 for it to last about a year and a half…this is your product! If you want something that lasts longer, look elsewhere.

I read tons of reviews before deciding to buy this Epson scanner. Got it home and after one day, I had to go back to Best Buy and purchased a different one instead. I bought this scanner in particular because it said it could scan up to 100 pages. I would have been satisfied if it could do 80, or even 70, but it didn't even come close. At best, it could handle about 30-35 pages without having a paper jam. Anything more, and I'd get a paper jam and would have to remove some pages. I used standard 20# paper, and I fanned it as per the instructions. I even called Epson and described the problem to them. They said it sounded like it was a defective part. It also would grab the paper and ruin the originals, both with roller marks and indentations on the top and on the sides. I bought the Epson Receipt Scanner instead, but ran into EXACTLY the same problems!!! Epson said that it uses the same mechanism. The rep assured me that I wasn't doing anything incorrectly, and again said it sounded like a product defect. So that was 2 scanners I had to buy and return. I eventually kept the Epson FastFoto scanner. However, I ended up spending $150 more. The FastFoto doesn't handle 100 pages either (as advertised), but at least it handles more than 35!

This is an office must have!!! My wife is a CPA and telecommutes one day a week. She scans all kinds of financial documents all the time! At home we had a flat scanner and that is just not practical when you have 10, 15, 20 double sided bank statements ect. I also can work from home from time to time and bridging the paper world into the all digital world can be a real pain but the Epson Workforce ES-580 wireless scanner really makes some strides in making that easier.
Set-up was easy as far as putting the unit together. The Epson comes with a usb cable if you wanted to connect it that way but the wireless part is really awesome feature. It makes it easy to set up where ever you need it with out having to carry a cable around. It doesn't have to be in close proximity to the computer. Keep in mind you still have to have a plug in near you though. I also really like the small footprint of the unit on my desk! Fits right in to my crowded office environment and looks sharp as well.
I had a little trouble setting up the regular drivers from Epson’s website. The scanner was not connecting. I think it was because I have a dual band router and the desktop was on one band and the scanner on another. Make sure your computer and the Scanner are on the same band! I became impatient and just decided to do a direct wifi set up with my computer. Super easy.
Got it all ready and scanned 10 double-sided documents with color logos on the stationary. IT BREEZED though them. Super-fast! The scan speed alone really impressed me but then the Epson software popped up on my computer and I was really excited. Getting documents scanned in is one thing but what is the format? Where does it save the documents to? Then I have to go find them and attach as an email or copy and paste into word to put into a work binder excreta… Well the Epson software box popped open after the scan and I had at a single click very useful and commonly used document management at my hands (see pic). I could save it to my HDD sure, but it had a box I could click to do an attachment, or to send to drop box, or Evernote, or Google drive, MS Word or Excel!! You can also customize where you send it! It also has a limited trial for receipt management. Super useful tools that really enhance productivity! Those are all the places I would send the docs anyway!
I sent the documents to MS Word to see the quality. The scan was crisp and clean and the color logos were true to color. The documents scanned and looked presentation ready. Fast, awesome quality scan with super intuitive software makes this a winner for sure!
If you have to still work in a paper world and transfer into the digital world this Epson Workforce will make life soooooo much easier!

An Overall Very Good Office Scanner

More people than ever are working from home right now, and with that involves having to do things like scan documents to send to coworkers and/or clients. While many all-in-one printers have scan functions, they may be slow to use, may not allow for many sheets at a time, or may not have the ability to scan two-sided documents. Enter the Epson Workforce ES-580W dedicated scanner.
Epson now sells a variety of scanners, from portable models, to deluxe wireless desktop models like the ES-580W, and several in-between. These scanners are for people who typically need to scan larger jobs (up to 100 pages via the paper holder), or double-sided documents quickly and easily. The unit itself is smaller than the typical printer, at just under 12 inches wide by just over 8 inches deep. A paper holder tray attaches to the back and extends several inches so you can stack your scan jobs on it, and it feeds the pages down, through the machine, and out onto a paper catch tray on the front. A 4.3 inch touch screen on the front allows you to do many functions on their own without needing a computer, but software can be downloaded to give you ultimate control over your scans and scanner settings.
Many will use this to scan directly into a desktop or laptop, but with Apple or Android apps, you can also scan wirelessly into a tablet or your smart phone as well. Options are also included to scan to a USB drive directly on the machine, or, scan to any number of common cloud services, email, or convert scans into editable Microsoft Word/Excel documents. You can of course, connect it directly to a computer via USB cable (included), too. In other words, if you need to do something with a scan, most likely, the 580W can do it.
Installation was admittedly a bit, well, “quirky”. The Epson Scansmart software is the most common one you’ll use, and after downloading it and setting up the initial setup screens on the scanner, I had a hard time getting the scanner to “see” my computer(s) even though wifi showed strong on the unit itself. The computers would activate the scanner from the software to the scanner, but the scanner could not find the computers on it’s screen to scan from it to them in the reverse order. Trial and error led me to a not-so-obvious way to choose the scanner from the software and somehow this told the scanner the computer was now there, and it would work in reverse, etc. Quite confusing, and one of only two negative marks I’ll give this device. But once you figure it out, you’ll be able to navigate around to using the machine.
Once working, the scanner worked fine. Scans zipped through the machine incredibly fast, scanning on both sides, and appearing on the software screen to be saved or sent where I needed them to go. As a matter of fact, via the settings, I actually switched it to “slow” which is still fast, and I found yielded slightly better scan results. You can of course, change the scan resolution from it’s default of 200 dpi (dots per inch) down to 75dpi, or all the way up to 1200dpi. Do remember that the higher the dpi, the sharper your scans, but the larger your file sizes will be once scanned! Most will again, probably save the file(s) to their computers to use or send manually, but you can set things up to send to a variety of locations from the Epson screen. You can also download the “Epson Smart Panel” mobile app on your Android or Apple phone or tablet, and so long as they are connected on the same wifi network as the scanner, scan directly into the mobile app so you can save and send documents via your phone or tablet. The app is more basic than the computer software, but gets the job done.
You can send items directly from the scanner using the touch screen controls to your mobile computer/devices as well once they are set up and again, if they are on the same network/wifi as the scanner.
While scanners like this are primarily designed to do documents, the ES-580W actually CAN do photograph scanning as well. Photo scans were decent – detail was ok but the dynamic range (details in shadow and very bright areas) falls a bit short as does fine detail, but for general photo storage and archiving I think most will be happy with this as a side function of this scanner.
Aside from the quirky software, I have one other gripe, and that’s the omission of a dust cover for the scanner, or any way to fold the paper tray down and over the top as to cover the top paper opening. With a top loading design like this, dust, pet hair, and other air cooties will quickly drift down into the scanning area, dirtying up your scans. The scanner has something in the software to detect this but really, it will lead to you having to air blow it out frequently to keep your scans clean. Epson really should include a basic plastic cover for these for this purpose! In the meantime, put one together yourself to keep it clean inside.
Other than the two gripes though, I really like the 580W. It’s very handy in today’s at-home working environment, but will work in an office as well if you’re lucky enough to be able to actually go into work, too. It’s fast, makes good scans, and will save you time once you get the hang of it, especially for large scan projects up to 100 pages. I recommend it. If you really don’t need the wireless/wifi aspect to it, check out the similar Epson models that connect directly to your computer via USB, that offer many of the same functions at a reduced price. Recommended.

Unboxing this Epson scanner was pretty straight forward. You will have 6 main items in the box. (Scanner unit, Document feeder, USB cable, AC Adapter, Power cable and Start Here poster) (Picture attached)
Following the instructions in the Start Here poster took about 18 - 20 minutes (Software setup, Test scanning and firmware update)
I used the wireless option setup for my office. THe touchscreen menu is quick to respond and has easy to navigate menus. (See picture attached for a picture of the touchscreen)
I ran quite a few test scans ranging from 7 pages up to 75 pages. The scanner does a great job in document feeding. It did not skip any pages. I used the scan to folder option for the major of my work.
Please see below for a snippet of some of my scanning data:
7 page Black and White scan
One sided - 200dpi
The scan had combination of text, maps and site plans
It took 14.50 seconds to scan these 7 pages
325KB using standard compression
70 page Combination of color and black/white pages.
Two sided (duplex) - 200dpi
The scan had combination of text, maps and site plans
It took 59.50 seconds to scan these 70 pages
5.52MB using standard compression

The Epson WorkForce ES-580W Wireless Duplex Touchscreen Desktop Document Scanner... A great compact scanner with a very small footprint! It comes with the the scanner, power adapter, and a usb cable for connecting directly into your laptop/desktop. Setup was very straight forward and takes less than 10 minutes to install and connect to. It is also worth mentioning that the 4.3" touch screen was a very nice feature that allows users with different options when scanning. So far i've been able to scan receipts, photos, and documents with high quality details. The duplex scanning feature is very much appreciated as this makes scanning double sided documents less of a hassle for users! The best thing is both sides of a document can be captured in a single pass, making duplex scanning very efficient as opposed to other duplex scanners. Another great feature that many users will benefit from is the wireless scanning which makes scanning super convenient.
Overall, i would highly recommend this scanner for anyone that needs a compact wireless scanner. The scanner's small footprint coupled with its wireless capabilities make this a great option for anyone that needs a feature full scanner.

**SETUP**
Epson makes this as easy as it gets. Following the Start Here guide in step 3 to, “Download the ES-580W software package” from the provided link, I let it percolate along. With the device plugged in and ON, the software was installed on a Windows 10 PC, found and connected the scanner to Wi-Fi and made it ready to operate. Then, it found and installed a device firmware update. And that was that. The software package was also installed on a Mac, with the mobile software installed on an iPhone, iPad and two Android phones.
Before leaving the software installation on the PC, I accessed settings to tell scans generated by and through the PC where they should be stored, what resolution to use as default (200dpi) and other personalizations each user may make. One setting of note – the scanner software can be set to start scanning automatically when it senses loaded documents AND with the launch of the desktop software. I chose not to select this option.
On the Epson ScanSmart PC software screen can be seen a choice for SCAN double-sided, SCAN single-sided and this one with a corner sash-type banner called, “TRIAL – Manage Invoices/Receipts.” Under the clickable are these words, “Automatically extract data form [sic] invoices/receipts and upload to QuickBooks, TurboTax, and Quicken.” Underneath is a long oval with this text inside, “Click here for more details.” That would be nice, I thought. Intrigued, I clicked! This becomes a $100 non-subscription software add-on called, “Invoice and Receipt Manager.”
Without this package, users can save the images of these files. With the software, certain fields are recognized and data extracted, then automatically exported to accounting management software as listed above. What a time-saver for small businesses as well as individuals who regularly require this data for tax time! The 30-day trial was not evaluated.
Finally, I looked into the “Scan Settings” within the software. Under the Main Settings tab the following choices were available:
· Document size Auto Detect in addition to all the standard size presets
· Image Type, including Auto, Color, Grayscale and Black & White
· Stitch Images Off, top and bottom or left and right
· Rotate, from Auto to 0°, 90°, 180°, 270°
· Correct Document Skew, with options Paper Skew, Contents Skew, and Paper and Contents Skew
· Skip Blank Pages, On or Off
· Detect Double Feed, On or Off
Under the Advanced Settings tab were the following choices, with others not available on this scanner:
· Image Option – None; Remove Background Standard or High; Text Enhancement Standard or High;
· Brightness – Default to 0, adjustable from -100 to 100 (useful for photo scans)
· Contrast – Default to 0, adjustable from -100 to 100 (useful for photo scans)
· Unsharp Mask – Off, Low, Middle, High (useful for photo scans)
· Descreening – Off, Low, Middle, High
· Edge Fill – None, White, Black
· Remove Punch Holes – Off, All Edges, Left & Right, Top & Bottom
· Watermark – Off or On
Users are encouraged to take the time to explore and become familiar with the full array of user settings for maximum enjoyment and efficiency.
All set up and ready for fun!
**PUT TO THE TEST**
The Touchscreen provides on-device choices similar to those in the desktop software; what to do with scans and where to send them. Plugging a USB stick in the provided port on the back of the scanner tells the scanner you may wish for scans to go there, bypassing the computer for scanned document portability.
Printed documents were scanned to PDF and OCR software created search capabilities. Others were scanned, OCR read and sent to Microsoft Word (installed on my devices) where formatting was generally preserved. I tested the software’s ability to recognize and discard blank pages. Perfect! On some documents with particularly small font sizes, it was necessary to increase the DPI so the OCR could do its work. Users will become familiar with these subtleties through experience.
Next up, receipts from grocery stores, bakeries, restaurants, home improvement stores and big box stores. These random receipts were neatly unfurled, and equally neatly stacked for loading in the ADF. One of the grocery receipts was particularly long. Then, in the PC software, I chose single-sided scan and clicked the on-screen Scan button. Artistry in motion! Though all went through as hoped, one at a time, some appeared not perfectly straight as they were drawn through the mechanism. Once all the receipts had gone through, a window opened on the computer screen with small representations of all the scanned receipts. Clicking on the first one, I could see clearly that the automatic deskewing capabilities had worked perfectly, straightening the images on my screen.
From there, I was able to enlarge and further organize each receipt any way I chose, by the store name or type, for example, and where I chose for them to be stored, be it locally for access on the PC only, or to the cloud where access is possible from all devices at any time.
Presto! BizCard® 6 OCR Software was not evaluated here. However, I have prior successful experience with this somewhat ubiquitous business card acquisition and management software, so I would expect users to meet with success.
Let’s go over maintenance requirements. According to information on the Epson Website, “Clean the inside of the scanner every 5,000 scans. You can check the latest number of scans using the Epson Scan 2 Utility”, with detailed instructions.
There are consumables that may require periodic replacements, though in my experience with similar products, these parts rarely require replacement, but regular cleaning is very important. Consumables include a roller kit. However, this is called for only “every 200,000 sheets,” so it is not likely to be needed for quite a long while.
**CONCLUSIONS**
At first look, the Epson WorkForce ES-580W is easy to set-up and use, right out of the box. Upon further investigation, fine-tuning settings allows even richer capabilities, all of which increase the value to the consumer.
The scanner appears to be well designed and solidly built for long daily duty cycles over many years. Maintenance promises to be minimal beyond keeping the paper path free of dust and debris sloughed off from papers that pass through.
My experience has been great! There is everything to recommend this $400 scanner at its price point. There are more expensive, more robust scanners, but most consumers and small businesses should find this is all that is needed. In fact, I suspect that most users will like the basic features and touchscreen display without diving into the more advanced capabilities. Still, it’s nice to know there is more to this scanner than meets the eye.
**WARRANTY**
1-year limited warranty in the U.S. and Canada

I wear multiple hats in my home office to include homemaker, teacher, business owner, and student. In looking for a scanner I wanted something that would scan quickly, effectively, and quietly. I chose this Epson for the speed, double-sided, and wireless capabilities. To start, setup is a breeze, even for someone who isn't particularly technically savvy. Once you download the software on your computer, setting up the wireless connectivity is done step by step for you. Setup took me about 5 minutes from start to finish.
I have been fairly happy with the scanning capabilities. The quality far surpasses my standard printer/scanner/fax combo that I was previously using. Furthermore, it scans documents considerably faster. One thing I was looking forward to, was being able to scan and open documents as editable word documents. While the quality of the PDF is great, the consistency of quality in the word documents is subpar. I've attached two pictures of the same document, one scanned as a PDF and one scanned as an editable word document. As you can see, there are some variations in the word document. Still, the capabilities offered by the scanner are far superior to what I was using previously. If the word document function was improved, I would have nothing but positive experiences.

Usage impressions:
This Device is an extremely easy to set up and provides excellent value and functionality. The setup is quick and only has 3 steps on the Start Here Poster. Much like any printing device, one of these steps is to remove all the shipping tape from the device and the other is to download the software. The primary connection method for the device is via a wireless connection. The system can connect to Windows and Mac devices as well as Android and IOS devices. For the mobile OS devices, you must download the Epson Smart Panel App from either Google Play or the App Store The device you are connecting to must be on the same wireless network as the scanner and it will be found by the software package. Within minutes I was connected via a windows laptop and ready to scan. Once connected you can initiate scans from a computer or smart device just place the originals and set the scan settings in the app and hit scan.
The first test I ran was 2 notebooks that my wife wanted to scan so that she could share this information with relatives. The first notebook was 115 pages and they all fit without issue in the sheet feeder of the device. A few clicks and about 3 minutes later I had the entire notebook in a PDF document ready to share. The second one was actually a few more pages and I split that pack into two and again it had no issues with the scanning. In under 10 minutes, I had 3 PDF documents totaling about 500 pages ready to go. Quite impressive and the single-pass duplex scanning of this device really speeds up to process of scanning and it reduces the chances of the device jamming as the paper does not have to be reoriented.
The sheet feeder is rated at 100 pages and can handle mixed sizes of paper for quick scanning. When using originals of mixed sizes, the manual states to order the scans with the widest sizes toward the back of the sheet feeder – which means they will be scanned first.
Other options besides scanning to a smart device or a computer include scanning to a network folder, scanning to email, scanning to the cloud, and scanning to an external USB device. For scanning to a network folder, you must first set up the network folder which can be reached by SMB. FTP, FTPS, WebDAV via HTTP or HTTPS, or WSD in Windows 7 and higher. The device can scan for shared drives across the network via the SMB protocol. For email, you must configure additional settings to an email server. For Cloud, you must link the device to your Epson Connect account. USB device scanning simply requires you to plug the drive into the back of the device via the USB A-Type connector.
In addition to scanning documents for storage in electronic format, this device would be great for those that get checks and need to scan them in for deposit. Another use case for this device is the scanning of photographs, however, this is one area where this device can have trouble and the manual explicitly states that they can be damaged by the machine. To do this they recommend using an optional carrier sheet – basically a sleeve to protect the original. Unfortunately, these sleeves are quite expensive. The manual further recommends using a flatbed scanner for photos to get the best color reproduction. They also make other products for the scanning of photos.
The device has an MSRP of $399.99, which is a good price for this scanner. It would be a great price at $349.99, and a steal at $299.99.
Overall, this scanner has great versatility and capabilities. This document can allow one to archive in electronic form many documents that one may have in paper form and thus saving you physical storage spaced in your file drawers.
Pros: versatility, Speed, connectivity.
Cons: Lack of direct photo scanning, possible need to use expensive carrier pages.

This is a nice, really fast desktop document scanner. I have used many scanners but this one is a piece of art loaded with technology. I have been using this wireless scanner for about a week and really impressed so far. It is easy to set up, quiet, fast, and very easy to use. It is a powerful way to de-clutter and organizes your life from loads of papers. The instructions were user-friendly and easy to follow. The large 4.3-inch touch screen and wireless connectivity allow to easily scan to a smartphone, tablet, computer, or a cloud. It has 100 sheets ADF which quickly scan stacks of paper. The wireless feature is a bonus in getting our old and new paperwork scanned into files and eliminating boxes of old paperwork and enabling us to share family records.
The documents scanned really fast (up to 35 ppm/70 ipm) and the best part was it is a duplex scanner which means you insert the page once and both sides are scanned. I scanned all the bills (crushed, crumpled receipts from grocery stores, gas stations, etc. that are really thin) at a lightning-fast speed without a paper jam!! And believe me, this is the first time I was able to scan without a paper jam. I also scanned my driver’s license and credit cards which were really easy because of this device.
The software is easy to use and understand. The application has all the rich features which I love and has a different number of dropdowns that are simple to understand and work with. I used the custom mode to have it work according to my wish. It worked pretty well, and the output was awesome.
Using Epson ScanSmart software I was easily able to preview, email, or upload my scans to my choice of device. The included TWAIN driver ensures compatibility with most
document management software. Wirelessly scan to cloud storage accounts, create searchable PDFs, and get remarkable image quality with Epson Image Processing Technology. It creates searchable PDFs with optical character recognition (OCR); convert scanned documents to editable word and excel files
If you're in the market for a stand-alone desktop scanner or scan many documents day to day, take a serious look at the ES-580W Wireless Duplex Touchscreen Desktop Document as it is fast, accurate, and easy to set up while taking up little space. Highly recommended!

Much Improved and Independent Scanner

I am moderately familiar with Epson scanners. Our company provides us the DS-530 models. I absolutely love them, and they are big improvement over similar models from other "big name" brands. The biggest limitation of that model is that it only connects via USB.
In a general sense, the Epson scanners of this type are extremely quick, can do 2-sided scans in a single pass, and are loaded with configuration options to get your scan looking the way you want it and saved to the location you want it (at least on your computer).
I knew from the description that this scanner went well beyond the boundaries of just scanning to the device it's connected to over USB. You can scan to a computer, to a network folder, to a portable device (such as a thumb drive or portable hard drive), to Cloud accounts (Google Drive, OneDrive, Dropbox, Evernote, and Box), or scan and email yourself (or someone else) the document(s). Even better, once fully configured, you could set this scanner up anywhere you want, as you no longer need to have a computer nearby. Well, almost. I had some trouble, but I'll explain.
The scanner took less than 5 minutes to set up (once I got all of the packaging undone and the shipping tape removed from the device. I literally plugged in the power cable, turned the unit on, tapped the screen where the Wi-Fi symbol was, input my Wi-Fi password, and I was good to go. The software needed on your computer must be downloaded from the website (no CD included). It installs drivers and the ScanSmart software. This can be used to to make an incredible number of setting changes, and then launch the scan job.
I did have one problem with this scanner that I have not been able to solve. Scanning to a computer directly from the scanner is one of the options. However, I could not get my computer to appear in the list when selecting this scanning option, even after a couple of reboots of both devices. The touchscreen does display a message that the receiving computer must have ScanSmart installed (which of course, I do). However, I was able to launch a scan from the ScanSmart software on that computer.
I was also able to very easily scan to a thumb drive (it has a USB drive in the back for this) and to my Box account. Because I chose the option, the scanner created an "Epson Connect" folder in my Box account, so I could quickly find my scanned document. To me, this makes the scanner infinitely more useful than any other one I have used, including the one provided by my company. I can scan my documents to my cloud account, and then access them from anywhere with any device in order to organize them. I could set the scanner up in my kitchen because I don't need a computer to do this.
One of my favorite features of this scanner (and most Epson models) is the ability to "skip blank pages". So if you have a stack of pages where some are 2-sided and others are not, you can select this option and the single-sided pages will have the blank side removed from the batch. A HUGE time-saver!
Even the touchscreen display is customizable. I have included photos of some of those options. You will also notice a preset button These can be used to program a very specific task, such as "scan in color to my Box account with 2-sided scanning, skipping blank pages, and correct the document skew." That entire configuration is now saved as one of the presets. Another HUGE time-saver!
This is very easy to use scanner with a very small footprint. It has a collection tray that folds up under the scanner, so when not in use, the scanner could easily fit on a table or bookcase that doesn't have much depth. The number of features may be a bit overwhelming, but once you explore them, you will quickly find which ones benefit you the most. I am very satisfied with this scanner and have no excuses to not start digitalizing all of the paper in my life!

Easy to Set Up

I was amazed at how easy this Epson WorkForce ES-580W Document Scanner was to set up. The software had step by step instructions for downloading to my laptop and there were no glitches. After the scanner was turned on I set the language and time' the download was complete and ready to scan in less than 10 minutes.
This is the easiest way to save documents whether you are looking to scan recipes, receipts, invoices or any other documents to your computer, email or online cloud storage. It even has the capability to scan without a computer to a USB memory drive. The best part is it's wireless but also comes with a USB cable if you want to hook it up directly to your computer.
The touch-screen is easy to navigate and the unit has a 100 sheet auto document feed. I did a trial scan of some recipes and saved them to my laptop in a RECIPE file. Next I scanned a variety of about 20 invoices using the auto feed and every sheet ran through perfectly. This scanner is perfect for home or business and I plan to use it in my home office to keep everything neatly organized in computer files.
I am very impressed with how simple the instructions were and easy to download the software to be ready to start scanning and get organized. No more piles of receipts and invoices, everything is neatly filed on my computer. Whether you are scanning 3x5 recipe cards, invoices or 8x10 documents, the paper width can easily be adjusted to the width needed.
There is also a scanner maintenance tab where it shows step by step photos for cleaning the roller. I can't say enough on how easy this document scanner is to use from set-up, using, storing and cleaning when needed. I am totally impressed with the quality, the construction, how easy it is to operate and the overall look and size of this Epson ES-580W. This is one of the fastest, smoothest working scanners that exist today, the Epson Workforce ES-580W scanner.
It came well packaged, yet was easy to get out and setup. The accompanying guides made for a quick read since they are easy to understand and well-illustrated. The setup is easily done via the wireless-duplex-touchscreen. Instructions advise you to download the appropriate software for computer or phone and list the sites they are available at. Scanning can then be started from the unit itself, a computer or a smart mobile device. It will connect either via wireless or the included USB cable. I saw no difference at all between the two.
You can directly load the output to a variety of places including the computer, cloud, email etc. It offers various output formats and will scan individual or large amount of items from its loading tray. I have set many pages on the tray and watched it scan with nary a concern, unbelievably fast. I wanted to see what would happen if it jammed and cross folded a document. It stopped and on the screen showed me how to resolve it in mere seconds.
The output files are really good, sharp and colorful.
I had been using a major manufacturer’s multi-function unit for scanning and as good as that is, this is massively better. This is a compact unit – about 12 inches wide with extendable input and output trays. The power switch is on the face and the unit is quickly ready to work.

I love so many things about this multi use scanner! It makes it extremely convenient that I can scan things using my to my iPhone, tablet, or computer. It also makes it very useful that it is wireless and a touchscreen so it’s easy to navigate through the options to perform the tasks that I need to get done. It scans up to 100 pages at one time quickly and effortlessly, so I’m able to leave it while multitasking instead of having to hand feed a page at a time. It’s also easy to share documents using the scanner, and I can save them to an USB drive, upload to my iCloud or my email. It also has added bonuses and features such as auto crop, blank page deletion, background removal, dirt detection and paper-skew correction with Epson Image Processing Technology. One of my favorite things about the scanner, is that it has Ultrasonic Double Feed Detection which helps prevent missing pages, and staples that get left in papers which sometimes accidentally happens. It was super easy to set up the scanner, and I also love the size, shape, and look at the scanner. It has a streamline and professional look and it’s also the perfect size so that way it doesn’t crowd up too much desk space. I’m very happy with the functionality and performance of this scanner! Great scanner

This is great for scanning letters, documents , letters and so much more. You can set it up for double sided scanning and it even skips blank pages . This is perfect for my everyday needs , It scans everything very quickly . Getting it setup and ready to go was a pain though. My biggest issue was the software, it's ok . At first I constantly lost connection when connected to wifi , so I had to turn everything off and back on several times. After that it was good to go .
With this Epson scanner I just load the paper and set the destination to where I want to scan it . I love that it's also wireless , I can use this product from the app on my phone , when I'm not near my computer. So far I haven't experienced any paper jams . The touchscreen is was to navigate everything quickly. The only thing I haven't tried so far is scanning directly to a USB memory drive without having to use my computer . I'm pretty sure I will need to sooner or later , that's a cool feature . Overall I'm very satisfied with this amazing scanner and it doesn't take up much counter space. I have to say Epson really has made a remarkable product. The ES-580W has actually surprised me. Usually scanners have been a pain connecting to older OS. It was very simple to put together and connect to the computer, my phone and the wireless network. The menu is quite self explanatory when setting up. The touch screen is a welcomed addition and doesn't require repetitive pressing to select a command. The size of the scanner makes for compact usage for those with limited space. If you drive, it is very travel friendly. Scanning up to 100 pages at a time is very helpful when I was scanning old documents. The great thing is you don't have to be a computer wiz to use the ES-580W. The functionality of this space saving work horse is worth having in your business arsenal.

Summary report:
Product meets described functions.
Detailed results:
This unit was able scan without any significant issues. Unit is heavy duty but small enough for a corner of your desktop.
Test process:
Was able to san in color and B&W both sides of a document in a single pass. Multiple sheet holder works fine with flat even sheets. Strongly recommend that you set scan to slow mode so the sheets don’t role or fly out the tray. Fast mode is very fast.
WIFI worked with the iPhone app to scan and save to my cell phone. Was able to save files in all modes.
Connected to WIFI however I could not get it to update FW VIA WIFI. Said server was down.
Driver/software updates:
Be sure to install the software at the Epson site and update everything. Always use the USB cable to set up a product the first time.
