The eufy Solo Smart Lock D20 are a good comprimise between price and features. I wanted pin code entry, along with being able to control the locks from my phone, new deadbolts, and no additional wi-fi hub. Fingerprint entry isn't needed in MN (its cold, we wear gloves). These check all the boxes. Installation is fairly simple. Each piece for installation is numbered by steps and only requires some decent screw drivers. I would reccommend pre-drilling the door frame screw holes since the provided screws are thick and long. The app setup is also fairly simple. Download the eufy security app, scan the QR code on the lock, and the lock will be ready after setting up users and pin codes. I do have a couple concerns: 1. The battery life seems decent, but the indicator in the app is already showing 80% after a week of use. I'm using the provided Anker batteries and it is the dead of winter in MN. Hopefully it is a non-issue as the weather warms up. High capacity AA rechargeable batteries will also help. 2. The auto-lock feature in the app seems broken. I have three D20 locks and they sometimes fail to auto-lock after 3 minutes. My hope is that an app update resolves this. For now I get notifications when the doors are used and can manually lock them from my phone. 3. No instantaneous unlock using a phone or tag. You'll need to use either the app, your pin, or a physical key. Its something I dont need, but I can see why it would be a desireable feature. Definitely keeping these, but monitoring the first 2 concerns. Hopefully these issues are ironed out with app and firmware updates.

A Smart Lock That Can Be Smart or Simple

INTRO: The eufy Solo Smart Lock D20 aims to make your property security experience simple to setup, easy to operate, and most importantly make your property secure. And like many other eufy Security products on the market, eufy has done a good job at giving consumers options that make it easy to control who has access to your property. UNBOXING: The unboxing experience was largely straightforward, but I do think there were some confusing aspects. Eufy has attempted to fuse their unboxing experience with their setup experience. Inside are smaller numbered boxes that indicate which step you are on in the setup process. That being said, I did find that I needed to remove all the boxes first and put them in order prior to starting the setup process, as some boxes were stacked behind others. Included is the basic hardware for installation (excluding tools), 5x physical keys, and 4x AA alkaline batteries. In the long-term, it’d be wise to have two sets of rechargeable batteries—one set in use and another ready to go when the active batteries get low on charge. SETUP: While there is an included manual with setup instructions, the best experience would be to use the eufy Security app, since you’ll need to set it up with the app eventually. The app can be found on both the App Store and Play Store. Once you have a eufy account, you can press “Add Device” and it’ll prompt you to scan the barcode on the back of the actual lock. Once you scan it, it’ll recognize the specific product you need a tutorial for and will guide you through the hardware installation process step-by-step as well as connecting your smart lock to Wi-Fi and pairing it to your account via the app. Overall, this process was quite easy for a novice like myself who has had to install door locks only a handful of times in the past. That being said, if you do not know how to disassemble your current doorknob, you will need to consult other resources because eufy does not provide directions for disassembly since locks from different brands may be configured differently. In total, it took me 20 minutes to disassemble my existing lock, assemble the new one, then a few more minutes to set up with the app. Those of you more familiar with door lock hardware will probably zip through this much faster than myself, but I wanted to make sure I knew exactly what I was doing. It could also take longer should you have zero experience with assembling & disassembling deadbolts. MOBILE APP: Once you’ve got the app setup, you’re given a reasonable amount of customization for a smart lock. Firstly, the home screen of the eufy Security app shows you the name of each smart lock (which you can customize) as well as the battery state and status of each lock—Locked or Unlocked. This makes it easy to see the status of your lock at a glance. Selecting one of your locks within the app displays a simple swipe down to lock/unlock prompt, should you have a need to unlock or lock the door remotely for a guest or family member while you are away. Or perhaps you or someone else forgot to lock the door on the way out of the property—this gives you the opportunity to correct that mistake later on. That being said, you can enable notifications which will inform you whenever the door is locked or unlocked, and you can opt-out of either notification should you find that to be unnecessary. Additionally, you can share access to the lock via the app with family, friends, employees who also download the eufy app. While I haven’t personally done this, it’s good to know that the operation of the lock doesn’t have to be managed by one person. You can also assign multiple 4-8 digit passcodes and give each one a name. For example, if you give each person in your circle a unique password, they will use their own passcode to enter your property and you can see the assigned name during the access logs. So you can know who unlocked the door as well as the time. You can remove these at any time should you decide to revoke access. You can also set a timeframe that this passcode will work in case you need to prevent entry after a certain time. I could see this being especially good for a small business that wants to ensure employees have access only during certain hours. This schedule only works for a single timeframe, but you can choose which days of the week it works as well as an optional expiration date. Additionally, you can generate temporary passwords—good for creating single-use or unlimited-use random passcodes that can be used until a certain expiration date. This may be very useful for a vacation rental property manager who just wants a new passcode for each new visitor. You also have the ability to set an auto-lock so that your door always locks itself should someone forget to lock the door. This could engage in various increments in as little as 10 seconds and up to 3 minutes. There is also the option to use One-Touch locking so that you can hold the Lock/Cancel button to lock the door, rather than having to enter a full code to lock the door on the way out of the property. While convenient, this does mean the access logs will not be able to tell who left the property—should that be very important to you. Thankfully, you can choose which is more important to you. The Solo Smart Lock D20 also has security features like Wrong-Try Protection which will allows you to set a lockdown time between 1min to 5min if too many wrong attempts are entered. You can set it to engage between 3 attempts and 10 attempts, with the default being a reasonable 5. Scramble Passcode also allows you to enter some random digits before or after your actual passcode in case someone nearby might be looking. However, this won’t be particularly useful if someone catches the whole scramble from start to finish, as they can use the same scramble to get in. It would be wise of Eufy to develop a capability that prevents entry for any successful scrambles so that any individuals who saw the scrambled code could not use the same code to gain access. At which point, only someone who knows it's a scramble might be able to figure out the passcode via brute force—but even that would take time since too many wrong trys will lock them out from entering more. It might also be good to optionally log when a scramble is used and let the account holder know as a precaution. Security features like this might be much more desirable for properties in more densely populated areas or those subject to more crime. You can also disable Wi-Fi which improves battery performance, but disables all remote capabilities. If you choose to disable Wi-Fi, you will have to use Bluetooth to connect to the lock and use the app. And as you should expect, even if your Wi-Fi connection goes down, you can still unlock the D20 via your passcodes or physical key. Lastly, you can integrate the D20 with your eufy doorbell so that you can unlock the door while you’re viewing a stream of your doorbell camera. DAILY OPERATION: If you’ve set it up correctly, you shouldn’t encounter issues with the Solo Smart Lock D20. My advice is to ensure that the deadbolt has a very smooth glide when unlocking and locking. Some doors may have tighter tolerances than others for locking and unlocking, so if you’ve not made the necessary adjustments, you may encounter scenarios where the door cannot lock or unlock without you pushing or pulling at the door. This kind of behavior most often occurs when your deadbolt is sliding against the metal strike plate in the door frame while locking and unlocking. Assuming you’ve installed it correctly, you shouldn’t have issues with locking & unlocking. I used the D20 for 1 full week prior to posting this review, and did not run into issues. While I have only experienced temperatures as low as 34F in that time, eufy claims the D20 should be able to withstand temperatures as low as -22F to 158F (i.e. -30C to 70C). Where I live, we haven’t seen temperatures nearly that low in many years, so I do feel safe as autumn temperatures decline and winter temperatures become the norm. Given that this system runs on batteries, I’m sure some people would be worried about being locked out should the battery die and you don’t have access to bring a physical key. Thankfully, eufy has one more option to help you. Hidden at the bottom is a microUSB port that you can hook up to a powerbank to give it power so that you can unlock it. So those of you who don’t want to carry a key have another failsafe. CONCLUSION: The eufy Security Solo Smart Lock D20 has a lot to offer for consumers and small businesses. It’s developed on an established and growing platform and provides capabilities that cater to both the typical homeowner, a business owner, or even a vacation rental property manager. The guided setup is easy to follow and it’s surprisingly feature rich. Just from my 7 day period of using it, I’m definitely considering getting another one. Good product experiences don’t make you think too much, and after using the eufy Security Solo Smart Lock D20 for a week, it’s really just a product that can seamlessly blend into your life. With all the customization it has, you can make it as smart or as simple as you please. But if you want smart, the D20 is a good bet.

Wow, this was sooo easy to install. Visual impression / Build – A little more industrial looking than another touchpad lock I own, but looks nice installed and the larger touch pad does make it much easier to use. Nice finish and solid construction. It passes the BHMA ( Builders Hardware Manufacturers Association) grade 2 certification, which means it meets light commercial requirements and exceeds residential building requirements for build and security. Packaging /Install - As soon as you open the box you are greeted with a quality product and packaging. There are multiple boxes, all independently numbered to correspond with the install steps. The first step is to download the eufySecurity app onto your phone, sign up account, select the smart lock (WI-FI) and then scan the QR code under the battery compartment. From there. The app will take you to install video that is very well put together. I was able to remove old dead bolt and install this new one in less than 30 minutes. Zero problems. Every step has its own box of parts. Nice touch. A+ for packaging and instructions! When you are done with the install, simply go back to the app on your phone and select the button ‘installation complete' and the app will walk you through the rest of your steps. You can set a 4 to 8 digit security code for your lock and even add users with their own code so you can keep track of who is using the lock. You can also schedule a time and/or day in which the users’ access is granted. Touchpad - As mentioned above the touchpad has a nice tactile feel and is very easy to use. At night, simply touch any button to light up the number pad. Assistants - Works with Alexa and Google Assistant. When I connected the app to Google Home, the eufy app forced me to provide another 6-digit security code to unlock the door. Timer- The app also provides an option to have the lock automatically after a set amount of time. They also include 5 keys as a backup in case the batteries die. There is also a micro-USB slot on the bottom of the keypad that you can plug a portable battery into if needed. All tests worked perfectly. I even turned off my WI-FI and Bluetooth to make sure it worked like I was away from home. The only weird issue I observed was when I go to the settings area of the app, the battery indicator showed low battery and it has only been one day. I did check the batteries and they are good. Once I re-installed I notice that a few minutes later the app icon is now green (Full), so my guess is this is an App glitch during set-up. Overall, Quality product that is very easy to set up and use.

The Eufy Solo Smart lock D20 is an absolutely fantastic smart lock. Installation was simple. All in all it took me about 15 minutes to complete. All the parts were labeled in accordance with their order of install and fit together seamlessly. When the physical installation was complete all I had to do was pair and calibrate the lock with the eufySecurity app and I was done. After my painless installation I was able to test and enjoy all the features of the lock. The first thing that stands out about the lock is that it looks and feels very premium. The body is made out of metal, the keypad feels substantial and the deadbolt engages with an effortless twist of the wrist. With the eufySecurity App I was able to configure my phone to lock and unlock the door with virtually no lag at all. I was also able to set my personally selected, unique pin for opening and locking the door, as well as, set unique pin numbers for each individual in my household. Whenever a member of my household opened or closed the lock I was instantly notified that the door was opened and who it was that opened the lock. Additionally, the Eufy D20 immediately integrated with my google assistant. I was able to ask questions like "Is the front door locked?" and make requests to lock the front door. My assistant provided immediate action and provided accurate responses. Overall, I absolutely love this lock and highly recommend it for anyone considering a smart lock for their home or even to use in an airbnb rental. I love it so much I am considering buying a few more for Christmas gifts. Great Job Eufy!

    HIGH QUALITY AND REASONABLY PRICED

Don’t look past eufy (Anker brand) smart home products. They have been churning out high quality devices with lots of features. The only real downsides in this model is, the awkward key to unlock it, AA batteries, and the app (which isn’t bad, but could use some better UI). IN THE BOX It’s a large size box, and you get the lock and installation hardware as well as 4 AA batteries. You also have a eufy sticker (to deter potential thiefs) and a user manual. The boxes of hardware, and the latch side and keypad side of the lock are all labeled with “step” numbers. This small detail goes a long way in the installation process. INSTALLATION Even if you’ve never installed a lock on a door before, it’s pretty simple. And eufy makes the process even easier with both a video guide on the app and the items in the boxes being labeled step numbers. To get to the installation video, you simply use your phone’s QR scanner to scan the QR code behind the battery cover (which slides off easily). (I should add, obviously you need to download the eufy security app and select the D20 lock under the add device option). This series of videos makes the process really easy. You’ll first prepare the door, removing any old hardware. Then you add the actual deadbolt, which goes into the door. Then you add the strike plate (the only thing you need is a screwdriver). Step 3 is to slide the keypad (outside) portion of the lock through the catch in the deadbolt. Then Step 4 is to add the mounting bracket and inside portion of the lock. A couple of screws later and it’s installed. Then you pop the AA batteries on and hold the sync button behind the battery cover and voila. I will say, I was a little hesitant as to whether the eufy lock would connect to my 5ghz/2.4ghz network (I have both bands, each having the same name). This gives some smart home devices real fits. But not eufy. I connected to the Wi-Fi, no problem. Then a short firmware download and install later and you’re all set. It really is a quick and easy process, made even easier because of eufy’s smart packaging. SMART HOME INTEGRATION I always like to mention smart home integration. If this is your first and only smart home device, then this won’t matter to you. But as you add different devices, from different manufacturers to your house, then you need to consider a comprehensive “one app to rule them all.” I can’t speak for Apple, but I use Google Home, and eufy integrates really nicely. Once the service is link you add the device to the room in your house and voila. You can then control the lock with your voice (although it’s easier to lock with your voice then unlock). Point is, no issues on this front. DESIGN I have to admit, the eufy lock looks sharp. It’s made of a quality metal that has some heft which gives you some comfort knowing it can resist the elements. And it looks nice. I don’t want to say it disappears but it has a modern, classic look. The buttons are plenty large, easy to read. I much prefer them over a touch screen frankly (less chance of error). USE I found the lock to be extremely responsive. When using the app you can unlock or lock the door in seconds. The default notification settings also let you know each and every time the lock is unlocked or locked. So remotely, it works well. You can unlock the phone via Wi-Fi (cellular) thru the app, through your phone’s bluetooth connection, through the keypad or the key. The password you set up during the installation process. The lock comes with a number of keys which will fit on your keyring, but they have an awkward shape. I haven’t inquired but I doubt you could get duplicates made so you have one key throughout your house. You can email people access tokens to get in. You might say, why not give them the passcode? Well if you don’t want to change it all that often and the guest you’re letting in is a one time or infrequent thing (Airbnb, cleaning service, etc.) you can simply give them access via Bluetooth functionality. I must say, I don’t typically give access tokens, but I have to admit I like the idea in practice and I’m always one for more features. PROS/CONS COMPARED TO OTHER SMART LOCKS When looking at smart locks, there’s a few features to keep in mind. First, find a lock you like aesthetically. If there are several choices, then you can go down the list of features. One of the pros of this eufy lock compared to, say, some August locks, is that the Wi-Fi is built in. Some August locks require a separate Wi-Fi access point that plugs into the wall. Not here. Large keypad is a big boon. You might prefer a touchscreen keypad (for the look) but I like the buttons instead. These are large and easy to see with a satisfying click. It’s easier to get it right. Installation of smart locks is essentially the same across the board, but when it comes to the entire setup, installation, and connecting to Wi-Fi/app, the eufy model is one of the easiest, hands down. THe AA batteries are a slight disappointment. Some newer models have rechargeable batteries. Whereas this one uses 4 AAs. I haven’t long term tested it, but in my August lock 4 AA batteries lasted about 5 months. But assuming eufy can come close to that, I’m happy. But we’ll see. I just wish for sake of waste and money, that you could just take a rechargeable battery off and recharge it when you need to. BUT, do know that if the battery completely dies, you’ll lose the “smart functions” but you’ll still be able to use the included keys to unlock the lock. CONCLUSION Eufy has done it again. Well designed products with features to match their more expensive competitors. Only some minor criticisms which are in no way deal breakers, but the price more than makes up for it.

This is the first smart locked I've ever owned, so I don't have a frame of reference. It took me less than 15 minutes to install and get it running, so I'm impressed by the ease of installation and how the package had numbered boxes with the sequence of installation. I downloaded the companion app and was able to program my first codes and allow access to my family quickly and without hassle. The entire package is made of recyclable materials, so kudos to Anker for that. Like I said, the packaging and instructions were easy to understand and follow. The lock itself and the hardware enclosed were of a quality finish and appear to be made of strong metals, as a front door lock should be. But I feel that I need to expand on the app and how it helps speed up the installation process... Once you have created an account, you can scan the QR code of the product, and an installation tutorial shows you how to install and add to your network step by step. It also allows you to create a master passcode to restrict access as you wish. Then you can create other codes for different users with different levels of permissions or timed access. But more importantly, you can add and customize other Eufy products from the same app, which I found very helpful to have access to all my Eufy smart home products. The package comes with batteries, but even if they ran out, you can open it with one of 5 included physical keys, or by powering the lock with an external battery by using a micro-USB cable to temporarily power the lock. Installers should ensure the dead bolt has free travel so that opening/closing goes smoothly. I have had my lock in place for a month and have had no issues whatsoever. My family likes the ability to use the phone, keypad or key to open and close the lock. Since I designated myself as the master user, I allowed all notifications so the app lets me know when the lock has been opened/closed, if it was done manually or who used it and when. Pair this lock with a camera and you can have full visual access and control over your entry door. I am definitely very happy with the Eufy line of smart home products and would recommend them to everyone.

    Simple Security

This Smart Lock was so easy to install. If you have a standard deadbolt in your door, and almost every home does, this lock will fit. You simply remove your old lock and replace it with this one. If you want to meet the BHMA Grade 2 standard, you can also install a strengthened strike plate on the door frame, which is also included in the box. I finished the initial installation using my existing strike plate and can come back later to install the reinforced one. When you have installed the lock, you must install the eufy Security software app on your iPhone or Android, and pair the lock with your phone. Be prepared to register for a username and password on the app, with all the usual confirmatory emails for security purposes. You then can add this device to the software and configure it using the step by step set up on the software. I ran into one glitch and had to call eufy Security support. The friendly rep got me up and running quickly. During the process of pairing Bluetooth, the eufy software instructed the user to wait for a voice prompt from the small speaker on the side of the interior assembly before proceeding. I did not get the prompt, and you had to tic a box on the software indicating that you heard the voice prompt before you could proceed to the next step. I was instructed to ignore that prompt and tic the box anyway, and when I did, the software prompted me to enter a PIN for the font keypad and proceeded to fully configure the device for the eufy Security software. After finishing the setup, I was prompted to download a software update and did so. The lock has been a joy to use. You can unlock from the outside using the keypad, the supplied key, or from your smartphone using the eufy Security app. If you have other eufy Security devices, this lock works with them through the software. If you are conversing with someone through the video doorbell, you can press a button in the eufy software to unlock the door and let them in without having to leave the app. If you want to do so, you can set up the lock to work with Alexa or the Google voice assistant to unlock the door. Easy, simple security. Highly recommended!

    My Door Just got Smarter

I've never dealt with a door lock before, so I was a little intimidated by the prospect of installing this thing. But boy was it easy! As long as you have a standard size door, the Eufy lock fits right it with just a couple twists and turns of a screwdriver (I have an old house, so the door had to be pushed in a bit to lock the deadbolt. This will not work with the Eufy as it needs to have the freedom to slide in and out. It took a little messing around of the strike plate, but got it to work.). Once the lock was installed, set up was a breeze. Just download the app to your phone, connect the lock to wifi, set your passcode for the outside, and you have yourself a smart lock. The app allows you to lock and unlock the door, and notifies you when the door is locked or unlocked. From the outside, you can either enter the passcode or use a provided key to unlock it. The only thing that I'm torn about is that it uses 4 AA batteries. Most of my smart devices come with a rechargeable battery so you don't always have to have batteries handy and deal with recycling the batteries all the time. However, I can see that if the batteries go out, it may be inconvenient to have to charge the battery for several hours and not be able to use the smart lock. Whereas changing out the batteries give you instant power (assuming you have them handy.) Overall, an excellent product that I highly recommend.

Review of Eufy Security Solo Smart Lock D20 - Black At first glance opening from the box it looks sturdy, heavy but still just two simple main pieces for external and internal part. Installation is simple as well by following the instruction and steps are clearly indicated in the package.. Eufy included a very simple steps to follow by marking each pieces per step in sequences that are needed to complete the installation. Although it is a very simple thing, pairing each step and each piece was something I have found most helpful from Eufy.Smart Lock D20 installation instruction. Connection with the Eufy app was simple as well alike most of devices in the market. The App that control it includes comprehensive options to remotely monitor and control. First of all, the security code to open from the outside, then with app being able to Unlock/Lock, shared users, and the notifications when it is locked and unlocked. I think it fairly does good job aside enough to make it secure. Only thing I would it has is a reminder notification or alert of the door has been unlocked for certain time in minutes or hours, not only when the action of unlock has been performed.

The setup was such a breeze with the video guide. I have no knowledge of installing any door lock until today. I removed the old lock in 5 minutes, setup this gorgeous looking Eufy smart lock in 15-20 minutes, and the final setup from my phone in 5 minutes. The app is simple, the door lock looks solid and great in all black. Highly recommended!

It works exactly as described. Locks/unlocks via the Eufy app, Alexa, the keypad, and a good old fashioned key. Integration with our wi-fi and the app went without a hitch. We really love the auto locking feature, a must-have with tennagers that can't be bothered to lock a door behind them. Haven't had time to mess with the lock scheduling feature yet, but no reason to think that won't work just as well. As for battery life, haven't had it long enough to say, but because you can still unlock it with a key I'm not as concerned about this as others might be. (They offer ones that can be recharged, but this seems to be as much of a pain as replacing AA batteries.) As for installation, putting in the lock itself was easy, but one thing to keep in mind is that the instructions seem to assume you're replacing an existing deadbolt. They do not provide direction on adding one to a door that has never had it before, and they do not provide a template for such installation like other standard deadbolts do.

I was a bit frustrated at first because It took me a while to get the device to connect to my wifi. After i finally ŵas able to connect, i still wasnt all that satisfied with the product. To me the battery life was way to short. Nowhere near the expected battery life of what the product had explained about the "special " batteries it came with. The installation was fairly easy with the video that guides you step by step. It came with plenty of keys just incase your phone wouldnt connect or wasnt around you. I feel it could have been a whole lot fancier for the large chunk of change it was priced for.. my overall thoughts about it is i would not recommend anyone to purchase it. There are way better options for alot cheaper

Great smart lock. Set up was a breeze, battery life has been great so far, love customizable passcodes so you always know who’s accessing your house and the option for a key. Still works via passcode even when Wi-Fi is out, just make sure you program all codes before Wi-Fi goes out. I’ve had nest, Schlage, kwikset locks and this one has been my favorite.
