I had been looking for air purifiers for quite some time, but hadn't found any that had the features I wanted (air quality detection, smart/app-controlled, etc.) AND had reasonably priced replacement filters. Some touted the features but wanted upwards of $60 - $100 for replacement filters.
I finally came across this and quickly bought it. It has all the features PLUS reasonably priced filters. You can even get them for under $20 each if you buy them in a multi-pack.
We've had it for about a month now and it's been great. The app is easy to use and offers a great way to monitor and control the device. It is relatively quiet but still creates a nice white noise. As an added perk, you can also turn all the lights off, which I can't, for the life of me, understand how that's not a feature on every air filter/purifier. Now I just hope I can get many years of service out of it.

I am very satisfied with this air purifier. I live in a RV so it works perfect as it doesn’t have that much space to work with. I tested it out by smoking a cigarette inside to really put it through the paces. The indicator went up to 400 severe and then in about 10 minutes it was back down to 0. Guess this would be a great way to quit smoking. You can actually see how bad it really is for you.
The WiFi connection was a breeze to set up and the app works great.

With all the Allergens and dust here in the Phoenix area we are always on the lookout for a new air cleaner and decided to give this new Filtrete smart air purifier a try.
Unboxing and setting up:
The filter comes in a nice sturdy display box and has plenty of protection to keep it from being damaged during shipping. The unit itself is fully assembled and easily lifted out, “it’s a pretty large unit so you may need help getting it out, there’s also a manual enclosed and that’s it.
The only thing you have to do before use is to open the filter cover on the back and remove the plastic bag over the filter element, there are a couple stickers alerting you to this on the back. There’s also some protective plastic that you’ll want to peel off the top of the unit also. Other than that it’s about as simple as this gets. The air inlets are on the sides at the lower part of the tower and the exhaust is blowing straight up. I like this setup the best as we have one that has the intake only on the back and you have to be careful how close to the wall you place the unit.
For Android devices you can download the Filtrete app from the Google Play store, and according to the manual there’s an app for iOS. We only use Android devices here so that’s what I’ll be referencing to. After downloading the APP it asks you to press the “Light” button and hold for a few seconds till the “wireless” symbol appears. Then it will ask you for the numbers listed behind the filter element access door, it’s easy to spot and is printed below the barcode.
After doing this the app asks a few more questions and you are off and running. The app has quite a bit of information displayed including PM values for 1, 2.5 and 10 There’s also an air quality forecast and various settings you can control from the APP. It also shows the filter life that’s left so you can plan ahead for replacement. The unit doesn’t rely solely on the APP and you can set it up and run without it by using the controls on top of the device. Everything is clearly labeled and pretty self-explanatory.
Use:
After getting the app set up I set it to “Auto” to see what it would do and it does raise/lower the fan when there’s more dust/dirt in the air, it pretty quickly raised the speeds when we were cooking and the air quality display was showing higher than usual. With the APP you can actually check the PM values and see just how many particles are in the air along with charting them over time by day, month and year.
I wanted to see how loud it is at various speed settings and used my sound meter to check the sound levels on low it produces 48db, med 58db, and high 68db these readings were taken from 10” away from the exhaust vent at top of the unit. Once you move away more than a few feet the low setting noise level becomes almost negligible, the mid setting you can hear, but not annoying, and high is very noticeable. I’d only use high we needed fast removal “like if we had the back door open for a while and a lot of dust/pollen were blown in.
Maintenance:
There’s really not maintenance that you have to do, just take out the pre filters from the back, I check it once a week and wash them off in the sink. After a week there was more on the pre filters than I figured there would be but probably could get away with cleaning them once a month “just depends on how much dust you have in your air”. The filter is a Filtrete F1 and is pretty easy to find from various retailers and the price is a good bit cheaper than other filters we have.
Conclusion:
We really like this Filtrete smart air filter, it’s simple to use and clean up. Replacing the filters couldn’t be simpler, “remove the element door, take out the old filter and replace with a new one, close door”, that’s it.
This device is listed as removing Dust, Pollen, Viruses, Dust Mite, Mold, Smoke, Dander, “particulates”, but it doesn’t have any carbon in it so it’s really only for removing particulate matter and not for vapors/gasses. It would be nice if Filtrete comes out with a replacement filter that also has carbon in it to help remove orders caused by gasses/vapors “like cleaning chemicals”. Otherwise this is an excellent particulate filter, it moves plenty of air, “although on high it’s fairly loud”, “but all of our other filters are just as loud and even louder when set on high, so this isn’t surprising.
The App is nice as you can see your air quality, change settings from anywhere in the home and check filter life. The lowest speed setting is very quiet, and is easy to sleep by if you happen to be using it in a bedroom. We’ve noticed a decrease in fine dust around the living room where we are currently using this and according to our AQI meter was pretty much 0 for particulate matter, "that works for us".
If you are looking for an air purifier mainly for allergen and larger particulate matter “mold, pollen, smoke, viruses” this would be one to put on top of your list.

Great purifier with an easy to use control panel on board as well as in the app (although not needed, it is recommended as you can choose to receive updates and notifications about your quality AND you can control the purifier probably from the other side of the planet if you somehow manage find yourself in such a situation.. Note: you will have to connect your purifier to your network). Noticed a difference in the quality of air the day I turned it on. Having left it in my room at full fan speed with the windows and door closed, it felt like walking into a new environment after I showered. I was picking up the scent of things I didn’t even know where there, but how can you tell when they’re invisible! Genuinely satisfied, although I will say that the 4th fan speed(max) tends to be a little noisy, and not white noisy enough to sleep to. I find that the 3rd setting is best generally in terms of power and noise and the 2nd I use if I’m sleeping.

Good Filter but can be Noisy and no Scheduling

This Filtrete Air Purifier does a good job cleaning the air without taking up a lot of space. The overall design, controls and smart capabilities make this a well-rounded Air Purifier. The downsides to this Air Purifier is that it is noisy at the higher speeds and although it has a timer it does not have a scheduling feature. I would like to set up a schedule where the filter runs at a higher speed at specific times throughout the day. One thing to note is that the purifier takes air in from the sides and blows it out through the top so both sides and the top need to be in open areas.
Overall Thoughts: The rounded design is good looking and its small footprint allow you to put it in a less conspicuous spot. The Filtrete is constructed with mostly plastic parts which keep it light and manageable. The built-in handles make it easy to move around. The plus side of the plastic walls is there isn’t any additional rumble caused by vibrating metal parts when the fan is running on high. The purifier has three filters, two slide-out pre-filters which are basically screens and then one large HEPA filter which is accessed via a rear door. The pre-filters can be cleaned and reused however the HEPA filter is supposed to be replaced every six months. There are two open grills on the side of the unit which allows the air to be pulled through the pre filters and then the blower forces the air through the HEPA filter and out the top of the unit. As stated above you need to keep the sides open as well as be mindful of the air flow out of the top of the unit. Also because the top grill is directly above the HEPA filter you want to make sure nothing falls down through the grill and into the unit.
Operation: The controls are intuitive and easy to use. They even included a color-coded light that gives you an indication of the air quality without having to think about the numbers. The fan has four speeds, there is a timer, a filter reminder, an on/off switch, a wi-fi indicator, an indicator light control and the air quality number. If you set the fan to auto it will automatically increase the fan speed based upon the air quality. This is a nice feature but it can catch you off guard because the fan goes from near quiet to roaring without you doing anything. The Filtrete has a timer which allows you to set a count down type of timer but it does not have any scheduling capabilities. I would like to have been able to set a schedule so that the filter would run at a higher speed at specific times of the day without my interaction to help the overall circulation and filtration of the air in the room. The indicator light control lets you set the intensity (High, Medium, Off) of the control lights which is important for use in a bedroom. Again, this is something I would like to have had in a scheduling feature so that the lights go off during the night but back on during the day. The Filtrete app is simple to set up, you key in the unit’s code and set up your wifi using your mobile device. The app does give you slightly more information on the air quality, it includes PM 1, PM 2.5 and PM 10 along with the temperature. It also allows you to access the same controls that are on the units control panel. There are Alerts and Tips pages in the app that will give you alerts about your air quality and tips on air quality control. Both Alexa and Google Assistant can be used to interact with the filter if you would like to use a voice assistant.

Right in the middle of allergy season and having moved into a new house I immediately identified indoor air pollution as a potential issue. As being highly allergic to dust and seasonal pollen clean air is always a priority for me. I have a more expensive air purifier in my bedroom and have seen immediate improvement. I wanted to bring fresh air to my larger living area which is an open floor plan consisting of a living room/kitchen, dining area with 9ft high ceilings, a gas stove and fireplace. Getting a Filtrete - 310 Sq. Ft. Smart Air Purifier which has the capacity to filter large rooms was my goal. The unit was easy to setup and only require unwrapping the filter media and downloading a mobile app (in my case an iPhone). After unwrapping the unit and opening it up to install the filter, I turned the unit on. I was impressed by all the “smart” features built into this unit and the easy setup process which allowed me to connect the unit at first via Bluetooth then via Wi-Fi for easy remote access at home or away. The unit has various fan speeds, a timer function, filter % left, light panel on/off, an air quality digital display, along with a multicolored LED which lights green for good, yellow for fair and red for poor air quality. What is pretty unique is the functionality of the mobile app and nearly the same information in realtime on the top panel of the unit. The unit is pretty accurate in measuring indoor air quality, assessing the air quality changes during cooking and when multiple people were in the room. Also in the app is the ability to display air quality on an hourly, daily or monthly scale, additionally it also shows tracking by pollutant size. Of course, when the unit detects lower quality air which requires filtering it kicks up the fan speed and takes in and filters more room air via vents on the side of the unit (each of which have a washable prefilter) then filter the air through the main smart HEPA filter which is rated to capture 99.97% of airborne particles. Things like allergens, dust, lint, mold spores, bacteria, viruses and pet dander are no match for this system.
Needless to say, this unit does a great job filtering your air and effectively measures air quality with one of the best air quality and unit control apps I have seen in a smart air filtering unit.
Pros:
- Great job filtering air
- Mobile App is the best I have seen for controlling and monitoring air quality
- Easy to replace the HEPA filter
- App can integrate with PurpleAir and Speck Air Quality monitors
- compatible with other smart products like Alexa, Goggle assistant, Siri
Cons:
- At higher speeds the unit can make quite a bit of noise.
- Humidifiers trip up the particle sensor.

Let's get right to it up front and the details farther down.
Pros:
Easy to understand instructions for setup, connecting to WiFi and use of the device.
Easy to use app lets you operate the device and view AQ history & filter life among other things.
It’s very quiet when on low speed and not too noisy when at high.
The LED lights for functions and readouts on top can be dimmed or turned off with the app or physically on the device.
The Color Glow Indicator on the front and digital display on the top tells you the current air quality.
Filter and pre-filters easy to install and replace.
Has pre-filters on the sides that are user washable and replaceable.
Has built in handles and light weight.
Replacement HEPA filters are inexpensive and can remove 99.97% airborne particles down to .3 microns.
Small footprint. Apx 9.5 inches square.
Cons:
Doesn’t measure Humidity.
Doesn’t measure TVOC (Total Volatile Organic Compounds).
Can’t set a schedule with the app. Timer only.
Doesn’t remove odors as well higher end air purifiers can.
As an HVAC Contractor, air quality is my job and cleaning the air is as important as warming it and cooling it. This device will certainly do the job for a large room, take up little space and do it quietly at low speeds. Pulls air in the sides and discharges out the top.
I have also reviewed the Blueair Classic Series 280i air purifier and the uHoo Smart Indoor Air Quality Monitor. I compared the Filtrete to them.
Testing:
My living room and dining room are one big open area so I set the Filtrete in the far end of the living room and the Blueair in the opposite far end of the diningroom and the uHoo in the middle. Set them to auto and monitored them for a week swapping air purifier locations every couple of days. Particulate readings were pretty much identical on all 3 devices. However the Blueair also senses TVOC and humidity, but costs $100 more. The uHoo senses even more things. I also want to note that we have a little dog and cat in our house. I also have a 20X20X4 Honeywell media air filter that my heat pump air handler sits on. Plus I still put in the most basic Filtrete air filter in the filter grill to catch the pet hair and “big stuff”. So the readings stayed pretty much at zero unless company was over or we were cooking or cleaning and stirring something up. Going in and out of the house a lot would raise the readings but they never got out of the Green and dropped back to zero under an hour tops.
DO read the Instruction Booklet as it explains how to operate and maintain the device. Like how and when to clean the particulate sensor on the side and clean the pre-filter filters. It also explains what particulates it removes and what sizes they are and their origins. The app also does this too.
The device feels well made and is pretty light weight and not top heavy as to tip over easily. It looks good.
I am pleased with the overall performance of the device and I think it’s a good value for the money. 3M is well known for their high quality filtration products, commercial and consumer, and the Filtrete Smart Air Purifier doesn’t disappoint.
I would recommend one to my customers.

3M is one of those brands that I highly trust and this air purifier meets the mark.
Pros:
• Slim but does the work of a larger air purifier
• Blends in easy with most décor
• Easy setup
• Real HEPA
Cons:
• Filter life is mediocre
• Lowest fan speed is still a little noisy
• No carbon filter option to absorb smells
I’ve been working from home for the last year now so indoor air quality is something to take seriously. This 3M Filtrete air purifier can clean the air with a real HEPA filter and is rated for room sizes around 18’x17’ in size. I love the numerical display that shows the air quality and it does update in real time. I can be cooking in the kitchen and the display will show a rise in pollution and the fan will automatically ramp up to speed up purifying.
The initial setup is easy and quickly paired it with the phone app. You don’t need a phone app to use but its nice to see the historical data along with filter life right in the app. I leave mine running 24/7 and I’ve been running through about 1% of filter use per day. With that said, filters are currently $20 each and at the rate of my use, would last little over 3 months. I’m estimating between $60-90 a year in filter replacement costs for the year. One negative I would like to point out is the lack of a carbon filter option. HEPA does a great job in filtering out airborne particles but does little to nothing on smells.
In summary, I believe the air purifier does a fantastic job in monitoring the indoor air qualities and automatically changes fan speed accordingly. I do recommend this air purifier to anyone looking for a trusted brand in filters. One of the things that’s easy to overlook is the availability of replacement filters. Knowing 3M and filtrete is here to stay, finding replacements shouldn’t be a hassle.

I’m currently recovering from a bout of Sarcoidosis in my lungs, so I wanted to invest in a good air cleaner to have running in my office at home.
I’d tried some air purifiers in the past, but the ones that we used before always seemed to be covered in a chalky dust kind of residue if we left them running - so my wife wasn’t real keen on having another machine that has the same problem.
Happy to say, that with over a week under our belt, the Filtrete smart purifier is still going strong and I’ve noticed that I’m not coughing as much now that I’ve had it running for a bit.
The set up was simple, take it out of the box, download the Filtrete app, and off you go. You can actually monitor the performance of the air cleaner from your device and you also get a real-time status update about the air quality in the room.
I turned it on Medium when I first got it out, and let it run that way for a few minutes before switching it to auto. It’s staying on Auto since then. What was odd was there was one night where the air quality in my office spiked into the red - but it was between 11:30pm - 12:00am and I was in bed asleep, so didn’t even notice anything.
Because Filtrete is also a brand of air filters, you can also order a replacement directly from the app, which is nice because it saves a trip to the store, hoping you buy the right size. I’ve had it running for over a week now and I’m still above 80% of filter life left.
The amount of white noise it generates when it’s on Low speed is also something that’s not annoying, which is nice - but when it kicks up to Medium or High, you can certainly tell it’s running.
All in all, I’m happy with it so far and it’s been a comfort to know that the air I’m breathing during my recovery is being cleaned out a second time - once from our Filtrete AC filters, and then from the Smart Air Purifier.

An Air Purifier with a WOW factor

Normally, I wouldn't really get that excited about an air purifier. It filters the air, and I think it's helping? Enter this Filtrete Smart Air Purifier. The digital readout gives you something to look at to see what's going on. But what is there to look at? Well, this air purifier provides you a look at the quality of your air. How do you know it actually works? Well, I tested it. I put the air purifier in my kitchen/living space after frying some food (and even had the range hood on full). I was surprised to see the air quality go from Good (0-50, mine was 20 or so) all the way up to Very Poor (with a whopping 156). Holy smokes! With the fan speed set on Auto (automatically adjusts fan speed based on the air quality), the unit ramped up to full blast and within 10-20 minutes, the air quality went back down to Good. The attached pictures show the before and after.
Now to the app. Really great interface that basically shows you all the same stuff, but in a cool layout. The good thing about the app is that it alerts you on your phone when the air quality level changes, and you can control the unit from anywhere. The app was also very easy to pair with the unit and connect the unit to wifi.
The only cons I can think of with this unit is the fan noise. Even on the lowest level, it still has an audible whir to it. I think that might be typical for a larger unit, but I'm used to whisper quiet from my smaller bedroom units. The other drawback is that it does not have any sort of pre-filter to collect the larger dust particles and prevent those from reducing the life of the filter.
In sum, this is an air purifier to get excited about. I can't help but to peek down to see the air quality level every time I walk by.

If you can believe this, I've got a house full of potential asthmatics. And air purifiers are a must have like, the latest and greatest video game on the market for the Geek Squad. Living in Texas and being surrounded by all sorts of dust, pollen and everything else in the air that wants you dead, tends to get tricky. But I digress, You do what you have to in order to keep the family safe and healthy. This air purifier does what it need it to do in spades. I do own other purifiers, but I noticed that, even though this is a much larger unit, the filters cost a 3rd less for it. I can't be mad at that at all.The digital display, at the top, is very easy to understand and navigate. Setting up the app only took 2 minutes. I have to say, my family definitely breaths better now that we have this. There's a timer that can be set to save power. But when that auto fan kicks in, you will know it. That sucker goes right to work, taking all of the impurities out of the room ( large room , mind you.) This thing isn't small. It's a small child. Just make sure you've got a place to post it up, I like to place it on a podium, at an angle in the main room. It helps that it's not an eyesore. At the time of this review, it runs about $330.00 USB. I don't think that is a bad price for my family's health. Yes. I recommend this to everyone. especially those with respiratory issues.

Filtrete - 310 Sq. Ft. Smart Air Purifier for Large Rooms.
Allergy Season!!! I’m calling in the best defense I can find. We do have a couple of portable air filters and this is one of the better systems we’ve found. And, it looks attractive, appropriate for the premium price.
SETUP: Remove the plastic protecting the installed filter, and then plug it all in. You’re ready to start filtering. Of course, you can download the App. The App duplicates all of the Filtretes top panel controls. It reads out the current air quality at 3 different particulate sizes. It controls light from the panel, the fan speeds (4) as well as auto. There is a Filter “Life Tracker” readout and a “BUY” button for convenient purchase.
PERFORMANCE: The set of features included with this Filtrete system are a highly regarded filtering medium, an air quality sensor, automated speed control and really easy-to-change filter design. The filter fits snugly and you can view it through the top grill.
I measured the noise level at the lowest speed and as my screenshot reveals, it is operates at “Quiet Whisper” level (43.3 dB using my uncalibrated iPhone dB App). And, yes, in a bedroom I can hear it, but at a level that is lower than a typical background “white noise” sleep machine. If you need it completely silent, set your timer to shut it off whenever you’d like.
SUMMARY: The Filtrete is a thoughtfully designed air filter that should be easy to maintain and operate. It adds another weapon in our effort to keep allergens and pollutants at the lowest levels in our home,

I bought this product because air quality in my town is not so great. This product cleans and filters air as it should. I've seen less dust and feel better overall. The reason i gave it 3 stars is because I can't connect the unit to wifi and I am unable to use it with the app, I search everywhere and wasnt able to find a solution all i get is system error, no good, good thing this was in clearance and now i can see why. And also it is kind of noisy at high setting. If you looking for a standard air filter with no wireless connectivity you should be happy and not expensive.

I have a basement bedroom that has always been a bit musty and just not "fresh". This air filter has definitely improved the air in a couple of weeks. You can see by the pictures that the air quality was REALLY bad at first. One note- the fan is a bit noisy if the air quality is bad. I am guessing that is because it is working harder.
It also gives you updates about the quality of the outside air. We got to the point where the inside was actually better than the outside!
The app is handy. When you are home and near the unit, you can adjust the fan, turn it on and off - basically anything you can do with the buttons on the top. I do wish there was a way to make adjustments and turn it on and off when away from home. You are not able to make any changes when not home. Maybe with an app upgrade.
It will give you notifications even when the unit is off and it will do that even when away from home.
There is definitely a noticeable improvement in the air. I am wondering how often the filter will need to be changed.

The purifier normally runs on low all day and is unnoticeable, but while cooking or cleaning, it will automatically sense the reduction in ait quality and ramp up appropriately until the air quality improves. Filters are affordable and easy to replace when the purifier indicates it's time for a new one.

It cleanses the air really good and helps get the air quality back to normal ranges. The odors of my cooking put the air quality is bad and I get a notice on my phone to turn it on since it works on Bluetooth. Also when I have the patio door open and someone is smoking I get a notification that my high quality is bad and to turn on air purifier.
