I purchased this item as a gift for my mother. I’ve had a Fitbit Alta for nearly a year and thought she would like it too. She loves and appreciates it. I love her Fitbit Alta HR as well and will likely upgrade soon. The key differences in the two Alta models are that the newer model (HR) measures heart rate and has capacity to give more details about sleep patterns. My mother who just turned 74 is encouraged to walk more to meet daily goals and really likes that there are apps that sync her Fitbit to her ®weight watchers membership program. Finally we both love the rose gold color.

Why all the hatred about this update?

I just bought the Alta HR as an upgrade from my Alta and I like it. Yeah it's slightly, and I mean slightly, larger but geez they fit a HR sensor in there. I am not having any issues with screen tap sensitivity that some are complaining about. My steps are spot on with a known route that I take so I can't sympathize with others having issues. Honestly I'm happy with the purchase and if I come across something that I think you all should know about before buying I will update this review but it works well and battery lasts about as long as my original Alta.

I bought the Alta HR for wife. She likes watches that are slim and have a relatively small face. However, with all that this Alta HR does it's perfect for her. She has teamed up with her friend to start exercising, and eating better to lose weight. She can now track her eating and walking. She loves the fact that she can track not only how many steps she is taking but also where they are walking to keep pushing their walking distance. This has been the best watch I have bought for her.

I love my Fitbit Alta HR! It fits much more comfortably on my wrist than the Fitbit HR and does practically everything the HR did! I love wearing big chunky bracelets, and the Alta doesn't interfere with them. Also,I've found a couple features that weren't available in my FB HR. I find the hourly activity reminders to be hugely beneficial and I love how the Alta HR receives displays text messages as well as incoming calls! I would have rated this product a 5 except for the challenges with the display in bright sunlight....everything else is a 5!

I bought one for my daughter for being promoted to the 2nd Grade. She was so excited when she received it. The color was vibrant and the band can adjust to any size. She always competes with her brother so she's getting her steps in!!!

I have really been enjoying my new Fitbit Alta HR. It's the first wearable technology that I've had, so I don't have much to compare it to. However, here is what I've noticed so far: Pros: • It tracks my sleep very well. It appears to be incredibly accurate and I like to look at my sleep pattern and hours of sleep as soon as I wake up in the morning. • The heart rate monitor also appears to be very accurate. I really like this feature so I can monitor my activity and try to keep myself at the heart rate I want depending on my goal for the exercise. • The band is very comfortable - I usually don't even notice that I'm wearing it. • Stays charged for about 4-5 days. Charging takes a couple of hours. Cons: • It is not always accurate in tracking my exercise. When I mow, it thinks I'm riding a bike. Sometimes it will count steps when I'm riding in a car. • I wish it would give me reminders for inputting my weight every couple of days so I can track it better. Since I don't have the Fitbit scale, it doesn't update it automatically. It also has the option for tracking what I eat and how much water I drink (but of course everything has to be entered manually). I would say it is comparable to other apps for tracking eating and drinking, with a very thorough bank of foods to search from. Plus it gives the breakdown of carbs, fat and protein, along with the total amount of calories. All in all I am very pleased with my Fitbit. It was given to me as a gift by someone very special, so that makes it even better as it reminds me of him every time I look at it! :)

I like the slim design. Alta tracks steps and heart rate accurately. I love the sleep tracker. I've always had sleep issues and the Alta tracks how long you sleep and what type of sleep. My only complaint is it is yet one more device that needs charging.

Great fit! I really like how thin it is. The sleep stages are very detailed. The battery on the Alta HR seems to last longer the the charger HR. Overall it's a good tracker. On the down side the Alta HR does not track flights of stair. Also on some occassion I have to tap the screen multiple times to get it to turn on the display. Not a deal break but just things that could be improved.

I have been using Fitbit products for years. I like the app and how everything is set up. I changed out my Fitbit Charge HR for this because it is slimmer and smaller. The steps counter, HR and sleep tracker all work great. It doesn't count my floors climbed though and I miss that. It is also very hard to read in any type of daylight. The LEDs could be a little brighter. Very good battery life that lasts about a week or so.

This was a gift for my wife. I originally got the Charge 2 as a surprise since it has a couple of features that the Alta HR lacks (like stair tracking and the side button). Also, to me, the Charge 2 looks classier. Unfortunately, she thought the Charge 2 looked like a giant mess on her petite wrists, especially considering how thick it is with the HR bump on the back. Major fail on my part. When she saw the Alta HR, she immediately liked the more narrow design. At a glance, it looks more bracelet-like than than watch-like, though it's still pretty thick due to the HR bump on the back. Anyhow, the Charge 2 got returned and replaced with the Alta HR. It seems to be pretty accurate as a fitness tracker...definitely better than her old step counter. The software is easy to use and seems to keep her motivated. A bonus is the ability to display smartphone notifications on the Alta HR, but they're kind of hard to read on the tiny screen. Battery charge lasts about a week. While she prefers the Alta HR's design, she wishes it had the long lasting replaceable batteries that the Garmin fitness trackers have. That way she wouldn't have to worry about charging it. Overall, she loves it, especially now that the price has dropped.

Fitbit Alta HR - Great Weight Loss Aid

The Fitbit Alta HR is a compact Fitness/Activity tracker worn on your wrist like a watch. In addition to displaying the time and date, a light tap on the tracker toggles the display to show the number of steps you have taken throughout the day. A second tap changes the display to show the distance you have covered. A third tap displays the estimated number of calories you have burned. A fourth tap shows your activity minutes. The remaining battery life can also be displayed with an additional tap. Accompanying the Fitbit Alta HR is an app that not only stores and compiles your fitness data, but let’s you set personal daily and weekly fitness goals. It can also track the calories and macronutrients from the foods you eat, your water intake, your weight, and the amount of sleep/rest you are getting. The Fitbit Alta HR is a fairly encompassing Fitness & Activity Tracker that has helped me lose 10 lbs. over the first six weeks that I’ve used it. Battery life is very good. It is water resistant, but not water proof, meaning you can not go swimming or take a shower/bath with it on. I would highly recommend Fitbit Alta HR to anyone who is looking to get in better shape or lose a little weight.

I switched from another activity monitor after deciding they were no longer supporting it and I'm so glad I did. I read alot of reviews about Fitbit and was about to buy the Charge HR when the Alta HR was announced. It suited my style better, smaller, lighter and great colors. I pre-ordered and was sceptical that it would work as well as it stated given my satisfaction for my previous device. I am so glad I switched, this thing is amazing, auto detects my activities, my HR is pretty accurate based on readings from my other HR monitors, auto sleep detection. Integrates with my smart things in my house and gives me tips. Oh and the social interaction is awesome, competing against friends around the world is a great motivator.

Purchased this as an anniversary present for my wife who requested it. She's used it continuously since except for recharging. She's learned a lot about her sleep and activity habits to improve her diabetes symptoms. The device works exactly as described, charges quickly and gives the heart and activity details she wanted. Highly recommended!
