Customers are saying

Customers highly value the Drive 52 5" GPS for its user-friendly interface, affordable price, and accurate navigation. Many appreciate the large screen size and find the overall usability and navigation satisfactory. However, some users have concerns about the short battery life, muffled voice guidance, occasional slow performance, unclear instructions, and unreliable suction cup mount.

Replacement for a previously owned unit

GPS unit was dead out of the box. Took over a day to fully charge. Once charged was able to set up and use. Worked as expected. Was a replacement for a dying GPS from another manufacturer that I owned for years. Used twice and noted if not used for more than a week when turned back on the battery status showed yellow or red.... seemed odd. So upon calling Garmin tech support that is the expected operation of the battery.... it is only a short life battery so that’s my answer why dead out of the box. It is not designed to be used without power for a short 1 or 2 hour drive, must be plugged in all the time. My previous old unit could be used for short drives and would hold most of its battery power for over 6 months.

Easy to set up and use. The screen is plenty big. It does come with a chord and suction mount kit, which is not in the pics or specifications. The unit has a small slot for a memory card and I would suggest purchasing one. My first update nearly filled up the onboard memory.

If you also get a dashcam (Recommended) you'll need a two or three ciggerette lighter socket adapter. The GPS must use the included power adapter for maximum brightness and to charge it's battery. The GPS is a good no frills unit. Ok so far, got me from NY to TX. Displays your speed and the posted limit on the map. I used a 3rd party mount so it was more convenient to use. Not sure what I can do to keep it out of the sun when I park. A foam cup? It will shutdown if too hot. Overall, recommended.

This is my 2nd Garmin which is a replacement for my previous NUVI model which I gave to my daughter for food delivery service. This model is easy and simple to use. The best feature I like it showing the drive time to destination. Unit works GREAT everywhere I go.

We absolutely love our new Garmen! We used it on our trip to Yellowstone National Park this past June. Not familiar with the area, our Garmin assisted us in finding the best routes, motels, and restaurants. This product is user friendly.

I like the GPS has backup camera, upgrade map, realitics road, and more. Those are important to me and I don't about u. However it deserves average rating because of the power will shut off right away without warning. Not able adapt into my like road. It keeps fall off

I'm an excellent driver... equally, a navigator. I seldom need a map and if I've been somewhere once, I have a photographer memory and know the lay of the land. HOWEVER, that was until I met parts of West Virginia, at night. Had to get one of these to be able to get my work done while down here, traveling from stop to stop per work orders. Without this device, I would have never been able to do that. DEFINITELY worth the money... especially now (as of this writing on 12/20/19) at the price of $99.99! Don't hesitate or read anything else... JUST GET IT! ~ Johnathan PS - Had it on my windshield, turned on and giving directions in under 2 minutes, no instructions necessary. It's that easy, I swear!

I wanted a basic GPS unit for navigation, did not want to pay for extra features. I have a smart phone with apps for extra features. I had a previous Garmin that I used for over 12 years, I finally retired it and replaced with this unit. Very easy to use, easy to read. I attached it to the Garmin base that I already owned. The suction cup will not last in the South Florida heat. I have been using it on and off for several months. Did not want to tie up my smart phone on longer trips. Make sure you update your maps when you take it out of the box. Map updates are important to a successful experience.

I bought this to put in my 2015 Dodge Ram -- I think my truck supports GPS, but I would have to pay, and thought an inexpensive Garmin unit like this would be perfectly adequate, and I was right. I've had Garmin units in the past. It can definitely be better to have a purpose-dedicated GPS in your car, rather than trying to use your phone, with a holder, etc. And especially on road trips, where if you are not in cell or data range, you can't start a new navigation. NOTE: my 4 stars are not really a knock, more like "this is as good as you get for such a cheap price" -- I would buy it again in a heartbeat... Pros: * simple to use * nice clear turn by turn directions * warns of things like upcoming speed limit changes * provides map updates for life of the unit (supposedly) * the suction cup holder has worked well for me * the 12V lighter plug also worked well * auto shutoff, when you turn off your car * nice clear, bright display, easily viewable day and night * I really like the panel on the right showing upcoming town, cities, rest stops, etc. -- can really make stop planning easier on long road trips * great navigation graphics, great lane indicators ("get the second from right lane"... etc.) Cons: * kind of seems to have a mishmash of databases of things to look up by name, such as Foursquare and others * you can only display one at a time of: distance to goal, time to goal, clock at goal -- that's super annoying, and a bit cumbersome to switch between them * feels like you have to menu navigate more than one level than would be necessary * touch response is not super great or accurate (but it fully works) * no traffic, but that not a knock on the product, but you miss it compared to using your phone or more expensive products or built in with traffic

Just retired to NC so don't know my way around yet. What a help my Garmin has been! I'm not "techy" but this little gadget is super easy to figure out even without the manual. I have a good signal on remote roads. It gives me ample warning to change lanes; it fits easily into my console; came complete with everything needed to use it immediately, and it's reasonably priced. I love it!

Right before an important trip, my vintage Garmin stopped working. Rushed to BB to buy the Drive 52 and put it to work the very next day. The upgrades from old GPS to this are very nice. Larger screen, very clear image, easier to program new addresses etc. I particularly appreciate the additional voice detail that my older unit lacked: "Turn left at the next stoplight/sign. I was relieved and happy that I was able to buy the last remaining unit at my local store AND at sale price. This rush purchase sure made all the difference in my easy and safe travel.

I really like this GPS! I know that I am "direction ally challenged" - meaning I really hate driving someplace I have never been and not sure how to get there. But with this GPS I am more confident and also feel safer knowing there is a path for me to get where I am going! It is easy to use and I feel it was at a good price too. Overall, I would recommend this for someone like me who needs some help getting where they need to go! I have used it a couple of times and so far so good - I type in the address I am going to and then the GPS tells me where to go to get there.
