Excellent GPS bought at a great price during thanksgiving. The directions are accurate. Since I live in NJ, traffic is common. A traffic receiver is packaged as part of this product and I find the free lifetime traffic very helpful. Highly recommended.

This product is very easy to use and it helps me get around places that I don't know very well. It was also a great price at the time I bought it, best price around was here at Best Buy. I would recomend this product to anyone looking for a great GPS.

I wanted a GPS with good maps, voice directions and traffic updates. I did not want bluetooth capability or traffic updates I needed to purchase a subscription to use. The Garmin 255 WT has the exact features I wanted. It is easy to set-up and use.

I've purchased 2 of these GPSs. One back in November and one as a christmas gift in Decmeber. I have been very happy with mine and the one I purchased for my parents. It is a simple GPS to use. The touchscreen works well and it's not complicated.
It's pretty accurate to destinations, though I've notice sometimes it will show the destination on the opposite side of the rode. So, it gets a little confusing if you've never been to the place you're traveling to and you're not exactly sure where it is and the GPS tells you it's on the opposite side of the road than it actually is.
Overall, the battery life seems to work well. The suction cup to the windshield works wonderful.
It's good enough for what we need it for. We don't need all the little extras like the blue-tooth capability, internet, etc.
Definitely happy with the purchase.

I have had the product for a few weeks now and really love it. The included Lifetime traffic does give you an ad or 2, but it's well worth it. I got it on sale for $129.99 which was a steal in comparison to the other models, even the Nuvi 255w was priced the same. There are only 2 minor drawbacks from my streetpilot 330c. First, there is no volume control except for the "built-in digital on-screen"control. Secondly, The is that the charging cord must be plugged into the back of the unit each time it is to be charged or used plugged in. I liked the feature on the 330c that the charging cord plugged into the base and the unit had contacts that would connect when the unit was snapped into the holder. Other than that the unit accesses the sats very quick and gives great and accurate directions. In my opinion, it's a great unit!

Very good GPS

This is my second GPS (first one was a Sony NVU-78) and I like this unit a lot. It works right out of box, plug in the power/antenna and very quickly it located me and started to receive traffic information. The brightness is very good, text-2-speech is good in general, and depending on the voice you chose. The accented voice adds some entertaining factor to the drive too.
On the down side, the color of the planned route (pink in night mode) does not stand out enough. Also, I like to be able to change the heading (north up or 3-D or vehicle directio up) with an on-screen icon. The ETA is useful, but there's not display on distance left.
Overall, I am happy with this GPS. The downsides are not dignificant, and at the price I paid ($125) for a 4.3" GPS with lifetime traffic, it simply is unbeatable.

Garmin is easy to use

I like the size and ease of use of my new Garmin 255W. My previous GPS (a Magellan) was about 12 years old, and is a giant thing. It worked amazingly well, but would never fit in my pocket! I think the tools and screens and features are well designed. I did go to the Garmin site to download the latest map set, and it was over 2 gigs of information. It wasn't apparent that it even downloaded, it wouldn't open, and when I finally got it working, it takes a looooooong time to update. But, overall, not a horrible experience, just not a fun hour to spend watching things spin.

I Broke my 780 NUVI I bought this one, it works very good.
The voice is a little down so I have to turn off my music to listen to it
other than that it is very easy to set up once you updated.

Better than my Tom Tom

I replaced a Tom Tom (which broke after 2 years) with this Garmin, and I love it. It's much easier to use, both in terms of set up and use while driving. Have not needed traffic feature yet but did purchase this model for that feature and was happy with the price after comparison shopping. A minor thing, but suction system for securing to inside winshield is great--very secure and easy to set up and take down. I'm sold on Garmin. (Have not had it long enough to rate durability, thus a little lower score.)

The Nuvi 255WT does what you would expect from a basic GPS.
Maps load quickly, easy to use and the QWERTY keyboard option is a big improvement over older models.

This is my first gps ever and I got my garmin during the black friday sale so I'm pretty happy about how much i paid for it. I haven't used it much but it has yet to lead me astray (as in i didnt come to an edge of a cliff, which is ome of the few horror stories i heard about a gps). Im sure a lot of people would like to know the negative aspects of it so here it is.
1. The exit i use to go to work doesnt even show up on the gps. I'm on the freeway and suddenly the gps says i'm off the freeway. the gps map indicates that there is no exit. However, i did not mind that too much because I heard that the entrance to the freeway at that street was closed years ago. I guess it was assumed that the exit ended up closing as well.
2. It gave the wrong street name, but so far it only happened once. The street was called one name but the gps gave a completely different name. Luckily I kind of knew the area so I didnt panic (getting lost is one of my biggest fears, which is why i got a gps in the first place).
3. This is the one big problem i had with this product. When I need to merge from one freeway to the next, it has a tendency to NOT mention if I should be North/South or East/West. For example, I'm on the 405 and I need to go on the 710. It will tell me to move to the right side of the freeway so that I can get on the 710, but the speaker on the gps doesnt tell me if I should go on the 710N lane or the 710S lane. It also doesnt show up on the gps itself. In fact, it wont mention which one i should take until at least 5 seconds before the 710 lanes split up into 710N and 710S (dont take my word on the 5 sec timing. its just a guess but it really doesnt give you a lot of time). What if you were on the wrong lane? I cant switch lanes that quickly if I'm going 70 and I'm checking for cars that might be in my blind spot and also worrying that i'm going to crash into the divider because I wasnt quick enough.
Anyways other then that, i do like having a gps. However, I always do make sure that I look for directions on the internet before i head somewhere new. My gps is more of a comfort if i do get lost. In that situation, i would trust the gps more then my own instincts. Hope the review helped!

I've never owned a GPS, but I have used them in the past. This model is very easy to learn how to use, re-routes quickly when you make a wrong turn, and gives good directions. I especially like that this model speaks the street names and will repeat the next turn if you missed what it said or were talking to passengers.
I don't like the search. It seems a little slow. If you are looking for a location based on name, the search takes over 30 seconds and doesn't always come up with expected results. The menus are also unintuitive. since they have to cram everything onto a small screen, you may have to go many levels in to get what you are looking for and may have to back out many times.
Overall I would recommend this unit.

The 255WT is a great value and is reasonably intuitive. I just have had it 24 hours but have used it several times and it has been extremely accurate and chose routes that made sense to me. The default voice is clear, volume is terrific and reminders are good. I researched GPS units for a week and considered several Garmin models. My car has Bluetooth built in so I did not need to purchase that option. The 255WT seemed to be the best value and have the capabilities that I wanted. I was right! It acquires satellite signals instantly. Very impressive. So far, so good!

I have always thought Garmin was the easiest to use compared to the others. I just purchased the Nuvi 255WT on "Black Friday" and I am already loving the ease of use and its functionality. Took not even 2 minutes to set up and start using. I like the speed limit indicator, traffic level indicator and a new feature I did not know about the EcoRoute. This GPS is loaded with many extras other than helping you find your way around town. I have already recommended this device to my friends and family and would strongly suggest you take a look at this as well when purchasing your next GPS. Again very simple to use just turn it on select your country, language and your ready to go from there. Enjoy!

This is a great unit for the price, it has everything you really need without spending a fortune. One suggestion, before writing reviews, please update the OS sofware, voices and maps (you get 1 free map update within 60 days if you register) before you say silly things like you got an old unit when you ordered online. Just make sure you have a mini USB cable handy. Also make sure your area is covered by the traffic service. Only the largest 100 or so metro areas are covered. Here is the website for the FM service they use: http://totaltraffic.com/

Bought this for my husband. He loves it! It is easy to use. Garmin has a large variety of voices and vehicles that you can download for free (device did not come with a USB cable, but uses a standard one, we had one from a camera that also worked for this). The maps are clear and so far it has given us accurate directions. You can also download games if you want to (we havent). Will put it to a real test soon when we take a 2 week road trip!
