We replaced a LG french door that died after 12 years of good service. Although the french door had 1 cubic ft more of space, the GE side by side has the space more efficiently arranged so we actually have more usable space. This new unit is SUPER quiet,you only hear it when it drops ice. The energy efficiency is superb @ 77.00 dollars in electricity a year to run. Temperatures are uniform through out the interior. Ice cream in freezer side is rock hard( how I like it). The thru the door ice and water work great. I read some reviews on other products of ice spewing from the dispenser,this is not the case with the GE. The doors will not stay open on their own, they close under their own design if not fully shut. It has an alarm function but it has never gone off as the doors shut themselves if slightly ajar. Unless you fully open the doors, they want to close. I checked consumer reports before purchasing and inspected the unit at the store prior to delivery. The Geek squad delivered and installed the unit right at the scheduled time. The install crew was very careful and polite,in and out in less than a hour. We are all very Happy with this product. I most definitely recommend this product to any one looking for a new refrigerator. It will not disappoint.

The slate finish is distinct & beautiful. Very spacious. Quieter than my last GE fridge. Cooled quickly - took only 9 hours after powered up.

I really like this frig. the ice maker perform flawlessly ( this is a big deal to me). My only beef is that the labels on the door for water/ice/crushed ice are not illuminated, so when I try to get a glass of ice water late in the evening, I can't tell where the buttons are. Instead, there is an indicator light above the button that is selected, but I still can't read the button label unless I turn on the kitchen lights.

I've only just receive my appliances but so far I'm in love! Beautiful color, a ton of room and amazing customer service.

I Love this GE side by side Refrigerator...side by sides are my preferred choice. The display pad is easy to operate and it's easy to replace the water filter. The unit looks so attractive in my kitchen.

Wasn’t sure I’d like a side by side, but we still haven’t filled it up! Only down side, crushed ice is not even close to being crushed!

We bought this as a blem. I think it had a small scratch. It was a fantastic deal. The refrigerator has been everything we wanted. We are very happy with it.

Freezer door doesn't close completely. This causes frost inside the freezer. Really disappointed, have only had it 2 months. Happened like 2 days ago, just outside my 45 day return window with bestbuy.

Terrible quality, weird sounds from icemaker, falling a parts.

This refrigerator replaced a GE Profile 29 Cu Ft that died before I had it 5 years! (SO glad I bought the BB extended warranty!) I got this model basically by default, as it is becoming increasingly difficult to find any black appliances of ANY brand...& I didn't want to go thru replacing my black stove & dishwasher to boot, as they are not that old While I didn't care or want a bunch of bells & whistles on my fridge, I DO expect to get some basic functionality...some of which this model is lacking & which I was already aware of. (again, was trying to keep it matched w/rest of my appliances for now) - While not the noisiest fridge I've heard in my life, it's definitely NOT the quietest, & certainly NOT as quiet as the Profile I had. While it's not annoying to me, I can overhear it in my adjacent living room. - The black model is definitely susceptible to fingerprints; I'm the only person here, but might want to consider this for your own family's needs. - While the specs say this has LED lighting, you'd never know it by seeing how much space they take up inside, as well as it's kind of poorly lit overall. The freezer ONLY has 1 light & the fridge only has 2; the worst part is the top light in the fridge, which takes up a LOT of room in the center top; it's almost like someone mounted a lighting fixture on the inside ceiling AFTER the fridge was made; VERY poor design! - Only 2 glass shelves & 2 slide-out baskets in the freezer; it's like they were thinking everyone needs 1 entire basket for REALLY, REALLY tall items. (luckily I kept the baskets out of the old freezer & put 1 in this new one, which fits perfectly & gives me 1 more basket of space; you could probably order one from GE) On the plus side, the ice & water dispensers & filter work well & seems to pump out ice in a reasonable time. The fridge shelves pull out & have several height adjustments & does have a meat/cheese drawer. (amazed at other fridges in this price point that do NOT have one these days) For the money, this refrigerator will do for me; your YMMV.

This is exactly what I wanted. I love the slate color. The size of the refrigerator is great for a side by side. Usually it's tough to put things in the freezer side however GE has done a great job making sure that several family sized items can fit in the freezer at the same time. The refrigerator side is great too. I thought I would hate the door alarm but now I love it. I never realized how many times I didn't shut the door completely. I guess it's good to learn new habits if it saves you money. The down fall to the finish is that it can be easily scratched. The installers scratched two areas on the exterior doors but the finish does hide it well. I don't have kids and now very careful about the type of magnets I put on the fridge. Someone on these sites suggested painting a clear coating of appliance paint? While I don't know what that is, I may look into it to prolong the life of the refrigerator and the beauty of it because overall I'm extremely happy with the appliance.

We love our new fridge. The slate gray is awesome and there is no fingerprinting. We like the side by side configuration for our young kids, the little ones can get their own drinks and popcicles. I also really like the feature on the ice maker to be able to reach in without having to pull the whole thing out. We get tons of compliments on the color because it's so different from the standard stainless steel, and way easier to keep clean.

This refrigerator is very nice. We really like the slate finish. It looks nice and is functional. The shelves provide good flexibility and the water and ice dispenser works as expected. I would give 5 stars, but I think the water filters are a bit expensive, especially if replaced as often as recommended.

After reading many reviews from various websites, with the majority of reviews stating that it was loud when making ice or that it made loud noises when cooling, I have to disagree. When I am in the kitchen, I cannot tell if it's on and when the ice spills into the container below, well, it's ice cubes falling into the container! It's going to make noise. The day that refrigerator was delivered was not the day that it was installed and that is due to the fact that valve on the water line (wall side) was corroded. More than likely if it was shut off, the valve would have ruptured and water would be all over the kitchen floor. So make sure before the refrigerator is delivered that the valve is in good condition. One last thing, the refrigerator was wrapped in plastic as well as the doors and when pulling the plastic covering off, the plastic was perforated on one end of the doors but not the other. So on the left hand side we have a very jagged edge of plastic covering showing and the right hand side no plastic covering at all. My wife is unhappy, which means that I will be using a very sharp razor to cut away the bits of plastic covering. Not what I want to do, at all, with my time. If anyone has any tips, I would appreciate it. One last thing, the top of the refrigerator is tapered to the front, make sure you have at least 1/2 inch more to slide the unit into or it won't fit. For some reason, the sales people don't tell you this teeny bit of info.

This refrigerator/freezer is quite spacious. It runs very quietly. I chose this over similar models because the frame-less glass shelves seem sturdier than the type that hook into the back frame. Also there are more options for adjusting the heights of the shelves over some models. The bins on the doors are large and hold a lot items. I also chose a side-by-side to replace our bottom freezer model because I got tired of digging through the freezer drawer to find what I needed. I like the organization of the shelves and separated bins in the side-by-side freezer much better than one big drawer. Very happy with the black color. I never liked the industrial look of the stainless steel. Overall, very happy with our purchase.

I bought this refrigerator as an open box to save a few bucks. At first I worried that I made the wrong decision, because shortly after the fridge was turned on, it started making a very loud compression noise. It would come in on and off every few seconds, and would last for around 10 seconds or so. It was loud enough for me to consider returning it. However, after a few hours of making this loud noise, it went back to normal refrigerator hum noise, and it has stayed that way. The fridge itself is roomy and the ice maker is great. Better than the Samsung that this fridge is replacing.
