Customers have good things to say about the 5.0 Cu. Ft. 13-Cycle Top-Loading Washer's cleaning ability and large capacity, noting that it handles big loads well and is easy to use. However, some customers reported that the machine can be quite loud during operation, particularly during the spin cycle, and that it sometimes struggles to maintain balance, especially with heavier items. The spin cycle options were also criticized by some users. Overall, the washing performance and capacity are highlighted as positive aspects, while noise level and balance issues are frequently mentioned as drawbacks.

I purchased this washing machine because the one I had was about to break down. I had called a service person to come take a look at my front loader which I had owned for 7 1/2 years. The machine tub had been making really loud sounds when in its spin cycle, like I thought it was going to spin out of the machine and fly out of the laundry room through the wall. Thankfully that didn't happen, but the repair person said this is typical, and that most front loader washers only last 5-8 years. This was my second front loader washer in about 15 years, so I was ready to go back to the top loader anyway. I asked the guy what brand he would recommend, since he fixes these things every day. He said General Electric, as he hardly ever gets calls for those. I went online and did some research, and came up with this new GE model that isn't even in stock anywhere. I found one review online, and it was very positive, so that was good enough for me. I went in to Best Buy and ordered it, it was three weeks out, but that was ok. I told my family to cool it on throwing so many things in the hamper until we get the new machine as the old one could break at any time, and who knows what that would entail.
Best Buy came as scheduled, letting me know when they would be at my house, almost to the minute. That was really appreciated! The delivery people were as nice as could be. I didn't buy a new dryer, because last time I bought a new dyer just to match the new washer, there was nothing wrong with it. This time I'll stick with my old dryer until it kicks the bucket. They got that old machine out and set me up and made sure I was happy with their set up.
Now about the machine itself: I chose this machine because of its capacity, it's huge. It is so deep, that I have put some old cooking tongs in the laundry room to grab up little things like socks that I can't quite get at the bottom of the tub. (For the record, I'm 5'-2"). But that's ok, because this thing is huge! It took a little bit to figure out all of the different features, but mostly I stick with a cold water wash. I really like the feature where I can just fill up the detergent reservoir and it dispenses it as needed. I wasn't sure about how good that would be since I have a water softener, but so far I haven't noticed anything negative. (Water softener water requires less detergent than untreated, hard water.)
The Wi-Fi connect feature is also cool, but there's hardly any information on that in the manual, which is odd. I went online and found info on YouTube. It is pretty neat to get an alert on my iPhone that my laundry is going to be done in 5 minutes, or that the load has just finished. Or that my load has been finished and has been sitting there for 30 minutes. Oops.
As far as the lid being glass, I don't thing it needs to be. When the machine is on, you can't really see the clothes because the glass is all fogged up anyway. And the "soft close" function, not sure what that's all about, but I definitely have to close it myself.
I've only had the machine for eight days, but so far it's been a great addition to my laundry room.

We chose this washer based on reviews both here and at other sites but had to buy it sight unseen as we couldn't find any store that actually carried it in stock. Our reasons for picking it were that it was a high efficiency top loader and that it had a detergent reservoir. We have a lot of smart home doodads so it having that was nice but not on our "must have" list. In practice, the smart app and notifications are fine but not great and it lacks the one thing I thought it would have which is an indicator for the amount of detergent in the reservoir. First impressions were that the controls felt more positive and direct than I expected. I feared the buttons would be strictly capacitive but these are membrane covered physical buttons that you can tell you're pressing. The dial is easy to turn but doesn't feel loose or wobbly however it's not the absolute best feeling dial we felt on a washer. Operation is standard for a HE washer and it seems to do as good a job as any other. Having had bad luck in the family with the reliability of Samsung and LG appliances we wanted to avoid them, but I've only had this for a couple days and can't say whether this GE is better or worse though I can say the UI "feel" of the washer is somewhat less impressive than either of those two brands. Lastly I'll reiterate what other reviews have mentioned: My wife is short and has trouble reaching the bottom of the washer. If you're under, say, 5'6", you'll also need a stool or a stick to get stuff out.

I had a front loader which I hated. Not enough water and too small. I was looking for a large capacity top loader and this washer seemed to get the best if not the MOST reviews. It's expensive. It's very nice with several wash cycle options. It holds a LOT. Since it has a bottom flattened agitator I always use the soak function to maximize cleaning and this works VERY WELL. It's a tad noisy on the spin cycle. I don't connect it to the internet because I don't need to know that badly when it is done :) Very happy with my purchase.

This washer is ok. It is s little louder than I would like. I am 5’8 and have to stand on my tippy toes to reach the bottom of the drum. I like the auto dispenser for the detergent. The cycles are shorter than my previous LG, but it seems to clean just as well.

I am surprised the washer received so many good reviews. The one thing I can’t complain too much about is that it does seem to wash the clothes well.
Complaints are as follows:
1. Buzzer to low. Volume is unadjustable and I cannot even hear it from the next room.
2. What a dinky fabric softener dispenser. Cheapy plastic thing and you do have to push a button in order for the softener to be dispensed.
3. The location of the laundry detergent and bleach are too close to each other. I miss my Whirlpool in that regard, everything was in a different corner.
4. The automatic dispensing of the laundry detergent is a bit confusing. How do you know when it is empty and needs more? How do you know when filling, when it is full. I switched to pods because I was a little tired on dealing with that.
5. Temperature settings. Cold, Warm, and Hot would have been sufficient. Since when is “colors” a temperature?
6. Already had service person at my house because it did not seem to spin water thoroughly out of clothes and was off balance at times that did not make sense. Repairman replaced something and it seems okay now.
Bottom line is I wished I had taken more time. I was under time constraint and since the store had very few for viewing, I ordered by picture and description on line.

This washer replaced a 10 year old Maytag. I was a little skeptical about the cleanliness of the clothes since it doesn’t have an agitator in the middle. The loads take a bit longer than our old washer but, clothes look and smell cleaner than before.
I’ve read some complaints about noise but I don’t believe it’s too bad. The only issue I have, in regards to this, is that when the washer pumps water into the tub, there is a quick shut off sound when the water stops (kind of like an abrupt clunk).
This washer holds a significant amount more clothes than our last washer. So far, I’ve washed 4 throw blankets, all at once, with no issues. I have no doubt it’ll handle the king comforter just fine.

It’s a nice washer, but something to get used to. It’s a big change from our standard washer we had this one is so deep and tall. I’m short so I have to use a step stool to reach and get all the clothes out of it. It has lots of new features on it like the option to pour the whole detergent bottle in and let it sense and disperse as needed. I haven’t tried the WiFi feature yet.

After 6 months of ownership it is like every other non-agitating washer, it will get off balanced and you will have to reset the load. It does do better with larger loads versus smaller.
I have not setup the wifi portion because honestly, I just see it as a hackable device and with the onslaught of IoT they are the easier ones to get hacked. Of course, one has to gain access to my network or drive by my house and get it, but in the end it is not necessary as our washing set is in the master suite and on the main floor, so it can be heard. If on another floor I could see the benefit.
Be careful of the water station when removing clothing, it has a pretty sharp edge. It also looks like a tray to be removed...DON'T. We did not but attempted to at first. The Samsung washer this replaced is where the soap tray was and out of curiosity we gave it a light tug. But it is not meant to slide out. However, to the left of it is the Conditioner side which does slide out! So we are not that crazy!
So far so good on the auto soap dispenser reservoir. My wife has been happy with it.
My takeaway from owning two Samsung's in the past 7 years and now this GE, doesn't matter what you buy, get the Best Buy warranty. It's worth it. And just factor in to your budget the cost of a new washer every 7 years because that is where the quality of all of these have come too.
Washers with Agitators tend to break less, but the trade off is way more loads and not fitting comforters and the like in them. Unless we all start leasing the commercial versions or equivalent, we will be replacing these at or after the warranty period. The only thing that saved my butt this last time was having BB warranty.

We bought this to replace the W/D set that came with our house -- mainly, we wanted something with more capacity than the old washer because we wanted to be able to wash our comforter without a ton of "unbalanced load" errors, and with plenty of space to actually have it come out clean.
Coming from a front-load washer, this one took some getting used to, and it was odd to not see an agitator inside it, but I guess it works fine. Clothes come out clean, no complaints there. It is a very DEEP tub though, so if you're short (like my 5-ft tall wife), you're going to need a little stepstool to reach the bottom.
My two favorite things about this washer:
1) The detergent reservoir that can hold a bottle of detergent. You really get used to just throwing your clothes in (and peeking at the reservoir hole to make sure there's detergent left) and then turning the machine on. Really awesome feature.
2) My absolute favorite feature is the ability to connect the washer to your Wifi and have it notify you when your clothes are done. Our W/D set is in the basement, so we used to have to run up and down the stairs to check. Now we get a notification on our phones. Like with the reservoir, it's a feature you didn't know you needed and now I won't buy a laundry set without it.

It gets the job done but wasn’t what I expected. It’s kind of loud when in use. It’s a big washing machine but you can not put too many clothes in it or it will not spin. If it does spin it makes this clicking noise. It always says it’s not balanced no matter how many clothes you put in it or if you keep rearranging the clothes in it.

I had this washer for a couple of days, works great, washer looks great and performs great. Some of the reviews they say the washer is too loud but it’s not. It’s like any other washer with a regular noise, just like my previous GE washer I replaced with this washer. looks great and works great will buy again.

I picked out this washer after returning a brand new Samsung. Since it wasn’t on display, and there weren’t many reviews, even online, I knew it might be yet another return. No matter. I would just keep buying and returning till I found what I really liked. ;). This washer has the exact cycles and features I was looking, and it’s mated dryer does as well.
I wanted the option to treat stains by hand right in the washer (with or without detergent, mind you) check. This also allows for an up to 24 hr. soak too. I wanted a deep fill option (tho there’s no need if you use the correct cycle) check. The Samsung only had a ‘deep wash’ as a cycle, not an option on most cycles like the GE. I love the Sanitize with Oxy cycle. Better than bleaching, and usable on all color safe fabrics. The spin is much better then the Samsung too. Clothes came out very wet from the Sammy, but ultra dry from GE. Clothes come out very very clean and smelling fresh. Ooh! And you just dump nearly a whole bottle of detergent into a well, and it dispenses it for you automatically, or you can choose how much it dispenses! Or, if you use Pods. You just shut this feature off. I could go on and on. Suffice it to say, after several weeks of use, I still love it.

This isn't a bad washer, but I'm 5'2 and I can't reach the bottom of the washer without climbing on foot stool & I still end up head first in it. It's a great way to get husband to do wash though. haha
I do love all the diff wash settings & it does do comforters, rugs, etc.
It's a good washer, but if your a senior and short, I'd consider a different one.

Reviews about noise are pretty accurate I'm glad I was aware otherwise I would have been worried, the drum very large love it for double loads, love the deep fill function, the detergent dispenser is not so intuitive it would be nice to know how much it dispenses for each load and the corresponding load size. Last but certainly not the least - I'm an avid Alexa / Smart home user. I purchased this machine over many others because of the Alexa feature. As of today I have not been able to connect. I've attempted several times, it takes approximately 20 mins to go through setup and then learn that it did not connect and then the hold time for support number adds another 20 mins. Connecting to the Alexa app needs improvement. Very disappointed that I can't use Alexa to assist with my laundry. "Alexa start laundry load...Alexa how much time left on the laundry....Alexa rerinse...". Overall good machine.

I bought the matching set with the gas dryer. The washer is capable of washing large comforters or very small quick loads. I can get most of my laundry done with larger loads in half the time. It automatically adjust detergent for the load being washed... no more wasting detergent. It is energy efficient and water saving but you can adjust the water level to your wash needs. I did have to purchase a step stool to reach the bottom of the drum... yes it is that deep! So happy with my purchase.
