Our old built in microwave, a GE Profile model developed problems with the soft touch buttons and needed replacement. Because of size requirements to fit in the same space and the overall reliability of the old unit we bought this GE model as it is the replacement for our old unit. This model is very slightly wider so it fit a little more snugly and it was a little taller requiring the cabinet to be modified.
It looks great installed and works very well. It is quieter than our former unit and the soft touch buttons are a little stiffer to push. The turntable is slightly smaller as well but that has not been an issue. The only complaint I may offer is the control panel is not back lit and is hard to see when the room is a little dark. Beyond that we have no other complaints and have been happy with this purchase.

This microwave replaced a 1988 GE Space-Maker II that had been a loyal and faithful kitchen companion, I have a very small kitchen and I like the fact the old unit could be mounted under the cabinet. I was afraid I could have find a unit that would do that anymore. The GE Profile PEM31SFSS does! Very happy with the look. I had to order the hanging hardware. When the hardware arrived, I spent a number of hours trying to install the unit. It took a while, but I was happy with the result. The microwave does everything I want it to do. What more can you ask? The only thing I did not like was the price. I'm not sure why it cost so much. As far as I can tell, it does not have any features that are special, other than the size.

Sleek modern design, quiet quality performance. Spent $1,200 on a Kitchen Aid brand that didn’t fit the new cabinet space so “down graded” to GE Profile. Love love love the unit and the $1k savings. Many cook features, very quiet, and fast / powerful for 800 watts. Love it! Buy it! You won’t regret it.

One of the few cabinet-mount microwaves

$500 is a lot for a microwave, but it's hard to find one that will mount under a cabinet. And it seems like no one manufactures a microwave with a door that opens from left to right. This one replaced another GE that decided to run every time you opened the door. This one was supposed to use the same mounting holes, but of course they didn't so I had to drill new holes. There is no manual or mounting template included, but you can download those off the internet. Good luck printing out the template! The buttons are very dark and it's hard to read the text and numbers. Even though this one is only 700 watts it cooks just as fast as the 1200-watt unit it replaced. It's an okay microwave, but way too expensive.

The microwave oven works great and it is quiet while cooking. That said, it was kind of expensive. We bought it because the size/dimensions worked for us. We also bought the under cabinet mounting kit and we paid a technician to install the microwave under our cabinet.

I replaced a 16-year-old GE microwave. I think I got the updated version of the one I had. I’ve only had it for one day, so I can’t really comment on the quality. It is quiet and detective. What I am concerned about is that several reviewers have complained about receiving a dented microwave. Mine is also dented. I’m not convinced that the box was a new, unopened box, or that the microwave was “new“. I had a difficult time installing it, and the dent is on the rear, so I’m not going to return it, but I wonder about so many people receiving “new“ products that were dented.

Perfect Microwave for our newly updated kitchen

I love this Microwave! We remodeled our kitchen, took out some walls and added an island. Since the range was now in the island and we had fewer upper cabinets, we needed something that would work with our 12" deep uppers. Most microwave options are at least 18" deep, but this one is 12" x 12" x 24 inches. Fit fits perfectly below a 24" wide cabinet that is 12" shorter than the adjacent cabinets to produce a beautiful built-in appearance. It is amazing how well it is designed and how little difference there is in the inside space vs the huge 30" wide units that are 24" deep.
The only downside is that it is 800 watts vs the 1100 watts our prior unit had. You just have to add ~15% more time to compensate. This is a fine compromise for the appearance and space savings. My wife and I love it!

AVOID UNDER CABINET MOUNTING

This unit was installed with the under-cabinet option 14 months ago. We're a semi-retired household; the unit has light daily use. One morning, after leaving the mw door slightly ajar to air out the chamber, the door swung open, which it hadn't done before. I noticed there was a gap between the bottom of the kitchen cabinet and the top of the microwave frame.
My husband attempted to tighten the loosest mounting screw. The screw engaged and tightened temporarily, but the other screws became looser. When he tightened the next screw, the first one became loose again. In a few minutes, the whole microwave 'dismounted' from the kitchen cabinet, and we lowered it to the counter below.
After a trip to the hardware store for different screws, and a visit from our contractor we concluded the screws that came with the mounting kit were slightly smaller in diameter with more threads than the threaded hole in the mw frame. The screws provided in the mounting kit still engaged the threaded hole in the mw when positioned straight up and down, but did not hold. With a little jiggling, we removed them easily.
As the unit was purchased to replace a 20-yr-old 'same' model during a remodel, it was now out of warranty. This unit has less power than the earlier model. The push-button to open the door takes more force than most similar items. Its overall performance is average.
GE customer care said they could send a repair technician for a charge starting at $105. In further calls to GE Parts and Returns Departments I found that the 'mounting kit' is regarded as an accessory; a GE warranty does not cover accessories. In addition, GE installation services are not available for this model, and on p 23 of its installation directions, GE is not responsible for improper installation.
I explained this was a safety issue. The unit was properly installed with the kit recommended on a Best Buy website. GE said their company is not responsible for the mounting kit. I like it. It’s very easy to use. I think the only small issue I had was the dimensions as stated were incorrect and therefore I had to Jerry rig the opening in my cabinet.

G.E. Junk..... Run Away..... Run Away

Microwave is over priced for the size and the power & I am not a G.E. fan however, I didn't have a choice since the G.E. unit I was replacing was built in with kitchen and crapped out after 10 years of use, did I mention I'm not a fan of G.E. . To be perfectly honest, if I hade other options, which unfortunate for me I didn't, I would not have purchased GE the second time around given the performance or the original GE Unit & I'm not a fan of G.E. anything since my entire kitchen is G.E. elite appliances that were purchase NEW 10 years ago that aren't holding up as expect. When I contacted G.E regarding my concerns I was told by the Customer Service person I was expecting to much! I paid top $ for these G.E. junk appliances.......NEVER again unless forced too, like I was with this replacement purchase.
With that said, the rest of the story is that the 1st I purchased was damaged, as a result I returned it to Best Buy without a problem and order another unit that was fine. Thanks BEST BUY for a fair price and working with me on the replacement on the replacement.

Almost as good as my origins GE. Door mechanism seems a little less quality but overall it does a good job. Same wattage as the original. Had to wait a while to get these in stock due to supply chain issues but Best Buy delivered quicker than local appliance co.

Mount a shelf instead of this built-in

Purchased as direct replacement for a 2004 GE Spacemaker II (JEM25BF001), 1200W, 11" turntable, that fit perfectly in the 24" space between cabinets. This model's door binds in a 24" space and requires 24-1/8" to open the door. Also discovered mounting holes requires a new mounting kit (extra $100) and more holes in my cabinet. This model (PEM31DFBB), 800W, 9" turntable is overpriced just because it is a built-in. Luckily I was able to return it. Bought a stainless steel shelf and better microwave instead (Sharp 1000W).
We regret to hear that you were not happy with your unit and ended up returning it. We will take your feedback into consideration as we are always looking for ways we can improve or make upgrades to our future appliances.

Good: very quiet operation, okay for re-heating food, nice looking.
