    Geek Squad® Car Deck Installation

When I ordered this online, there weren't a lot of details on *how* it would be handled, whether the Geek Squad would be coming to me, or if I would need to go to a local store. However I assumed (ooo, we know about that word...) that I would be given an appointment, perhaps I would need to make a phone call, give them my order number, and schedule it, but when I received an email saying it was Back Ordered, I was confused. Perhaps they were shipping me the geeks in a box? I called customer service for clarification. They verified for me that it was indeed back ordered. When I asked what they meant by it, she had no answer for me, but suggested that I could call the local store and try to set up the appointment on my own. So I did. The man I spoke to set up my appointment for the next morning. He didn't say I needed to bring anything or mention that there may be extra charges. Of course I *did* bring a print out of my email, in case there were any questions. When we arrived, we were told to go to a door at the back of the store and knock, and someone would help us. We knocked, and there was no reply. However, we could hear very loud rock music through the door. After waiting and knocking again, we went back to the front of the store, and asked for help again. Still no one came. Standing in a back hall, knocking on a locked door, loud music on the other side... it felt like we were trying to get into some secret speak-easy! After a second trip to the front of the store, a young man showed up and let us in. He looked at our email print out and then pulled out some parts, saying they would be an additional $40 some-odd dollars. We did expect an additional $15-20 because we had researched what our car would need for the install and the cost of those parts, but the cost was double what we had anticipated. When we expressed our surprise, the clerk called a manager who kindly gave us a discount on the parts, which brought them down to only a bit more than our original expectation. Then we returned to the front of the store, drove our vehicle around to the back, and knocked on another locked door to be let in. We gave him our keys and wandered the store while he installed our car radio. The install was done neatly, the radio works, and it didn't take too long once he got started. When I returned home, I sent a message regarding the *back ordered* part of my order stating that I had had the local store install it, and that part of my order could be canceled. However, weeks later I received an email telling me the item was still back ordered, and telling me that it would be canceled and I would receive a refund if it couldn't be shipped in the next 2 weeks or something like that. Befuddled, bemused, and bewildered, I chose to ignore the email. Several weeks later, I received a big cardboard package from Best Buy in the mail. Inside, I found an invoice, a small 3-page catalog, and a postcard for my installation. It instructed me to contact my local store for an appointment and said to just bring the card. Not only would the card (and the added junk) have fit in a smaller envelope, but a simple email to print would have been even more economical for the company, and there would have been no need for it to be back ordered for 2 months! I am thrilled to have a working radio in my car again, but I am less than thrilled with the service I received trying to get it there. Although I *would* recommend Best Buy to my friends for cheap electronics, I would caution them to make the arrangements any installations themselves and not try going through the website for that!

when I first purchased my stereo deck I asked if it could be installed that day as it was a gift for my wife and I wanted to present it to her that evening. The tech stated that he could possibly get me in later that day. He took my phone number and stated that he would call me. I never got a call. I thought that possibly I would get a call the next day but did not. I finally went into the store 3 days later and confronted the same guy... he remembered me but stated that he didn't have time the other day. Not even an apology. I told him that a phone call would have been nice. We scheduled the appointment for the following day. This should have been done in the 1st instance. When I finally got my car in the installation went smooth and was done inside of an hour... by a different technician. VERY professional.

I recommend their service, especially if you have little to no experience with cars. I looked up online how to put my stereo in myself, and decided that I would rather hire a pro to do it. My geek squad member gave me accurate charge estimates and timing of the whole process. It took an hour and a half, but we just sat down and ate lunch at a nearby restaurant. Make sure that you make an appointment in advance, don't walk in expecting them to be available immediately or even at all that day. Also, expect some extra charges. Parts and labor adds a little to the total. If you have certain model cars, you might have to purchase another part to make your stereo work properly, which in my case costed $100, but they told me that over the phone. But you would need that part anywhere, not just because you're at Best Buy. I'm very satisfied with the service, no complaints at all. This is just as good as taking to an audio shop to get it put in.

I was able to get an appointment same day for the install, and it was quicker than they told me it would be (only about a half hour). It is a good value, especially since I got a good price on the radio itself. The extra parts needed to make the radio compatible with the car are not included--it was about $65+ for me--call ahead if you want to find out exactly how much that part will be. Overall this is still a good value, but it is better not to be surprised. Just call the store with the car make, model and year, and they can tell you how much extra it would be for the parts.

I purchased a JVC deck from another company, which included all the parts needed for installation. I went to the Best Buy at Solomon Pond In Marlboro/northboro mall. After reading some of the "horror stories" on the reviews of other customers,I was aprehensive to say the least. I talked to a man in the audio install area of the store his name was Justin....no last name. What a pleasant suprise,I told him what i needed done and he said "we can do it right now if you want." Not having the unit with me ,we scheduled for the next day.I took the the car in and asked him a few questions and how long it would take? His reply was about an hour.I went back to the install area 42 minutes later and Justin came out and said it was all set...The unit was in and working ...blue tooth installed and working, extra usb cable connection installed....all neat and very professional.Outstanding work and very friendly...all the old parts and radio was packed away in the box.

If you are excited to get your deck installed, go early. For me, there was no line and the "agent" was ready (8 o'clock in the morning). The agent was very insightful. I received an alpine deck for x-mas and he told me that that feedback for the item wasn't too good and that it had defects. I ended up buying a better sony deck for only $10 more. He said it would take 45 min and when we got there it was already done. Everything was good but I still don't understand why it costs that much money for a 45 min job. I personally think it should be $30.

    Took Much Longer Than Told

I went into best buy to have a new radio and back speakers installed. I had made an appointment the week before and they knew what kind of car I had ahead-of-time. They were very nice when I went in, were never rude and told me how the process would work and what I should expect. The real kicker of my experience is that they told me it would take 1.5 hours to complete the installations. I left and wandered around for 2 hours before coming back to the store. When I got back, the guy was gone. It was the middle of the day and no one else knew where he was. They called him and he said that he had to leave to get a part to finish my car. I was frustrated because he should have gotten those parts earlier since, like I said, he knew what kind of car I had before hand. It took him 45 minutes to drive to a local home depot and back. I left for another hour to hang out and came back to find him working on the car still. I went back outside and waited again and watched five more people go inside to chat with him about their cars. He was the only person working so he had to stop his installation and help them. That wasn't his fault, but Best Buy needs more people working back there on Saturdays. Needless to say, I was annoyed with how long it ended up taking (5 hours) him to install everything in my car. Thankfully it was a good installation and I haven't had trouble with it yet. I'm not sure I'll be going back to Best Buy to get my front speakers replaced.

The installer told me it would take about an hour or so. However as others have stated it only took about 30 minutes. My installer wasn't as professional as everyone else was saying but he was far from unprofessional. He did an amazing job. The radio looks like it was factory installed from the get-go. The only thing thats not so great about the whole thing is that $50 is just the service charge. You also need to take into account the other hardware need such as harnesses. They are not cheap either... my bill came to almost $120 because of that. Still a good deal though as seeing as I was looking at a $150 charge from a local place and how professionally done this is. I only gave it 4 stars because of the price.

This is the first review that I have ever written, but I was so impressed by my experience that I had to share. I stopped in this Best Buy to purchase a stereo for my boyfriend's truck as a surprise for Christmas. The sales associate that helped me select the stereo was super nice and knowledgeable. She even remained upbeat when another customer was treating her poorly over something that was not in her control. She even went out of her way to call other stores for information. We thought that the installation would take a long time because of the first come, first serve policy, but there were two awesome guys working and one took care of scheduled installations as the other helped the day's walk-in customers. They even refunded me part of my bill for a part they were able to use that was already in his truck. The job was finished in 20 minutes! I highly recommend this Best Buy for great customer service and quality, efficient work.

I got a car stereo installed and they took less time than they quoted. The guy called me to let me know when it was done. And they programmed my preset stations on the new stereo. That was a nice surprise. Jaime went over the new stereo with me to make sure I knew how it worked. I'm a big fan of The Geek Squad.

I just had my car deck installed yesterday, wanted this one i had put in but it was not working ( i tried to put that one in but it didnt work thought i was a dumb or something) but anyways he came out and found me and calmly told me it didnt work so he showed me one of the best cheap ones they had there and said it would just cost a little bit more so i went with his choise because he looked like a professional so i only had to wait 40 min or so and he came and got me and said the installation was complete, so i got in and it sounded great, other than my two horrible front speakers which needed replaced anyways, but he did put the dash panel on backwords but thats an easy fix, so thank you best buy of joplin missouri and i am pretty sure i will do bussiness with you on my future systems

My girlfriend went away for the weekend so i thought i'd surprise her with a new stereo in her car that had an ipod connection. Friday morning i get to the store and pick out a JVC deck. My concern was if i'd be out of there by 12. The salesperson assured me that after talking to the installer id be out by then. After paying i was told to drive my car around to the back and Anthony would be there waiting for me. Did some paperwork and he was under way with the installation. I must say that after reading some reviews on here about terrible service i was pleasantly surprised with how awesome Anthony was. He had me out on the road by 12 and he did a great job. The stereo works great. I have no complaints and i would recommend that if you dont know how or just dont have the time, to trust the guys at the GSP with your car stereo needs. A+

I can't even begin to explain how great the service was here. I had bought a new car that someone had owned previously and jerry-rigged a half put together stereo system into it. John said the damage was bad and would take about three hours. After 6 hours he had pulled out about 20 pounds of cable that didn't need to be there, got everything looking better than it would have if it just rolled out of the factory. The attention to detail and effort put into it was amazing. I used to tell people to install stereos themselves... Now everyone I see I tell them to take it Best buy.

Did a terrific job installing a modern car radio with blue tooth capabilities in my vintage 1982 Corvette. Was a little hesitant about letting a chain store install a car radio into my vintage corrvette. But my fears were unfounded. My car was worked on by Mike at the Manalapan, NJ Best Buy who was courteous, knowledgable and professional. I made an appointment a week prior and when I arrived for my appointed installation, Mike took me right away and installed the car stereo in record time. Mike answered all my questions and the install and car stereo were above my expectations. I now enjoy listening to my Iphone blue tooth audio and making hands-free calls which I did not think possible in such an older car...Thank you Best Buy and Mike especially!

This is my first time doing this process, and I was even late for the appointment. The geek squad members took me right in, checked out the car, and got started, regardless of the time constraint I put on them since there was another appointment immediately after mine. It only took a half hour, I recieved a call letting me know the installation was complete, and I was on my way. The geek squad member who took care of me was extremely friendly and the installation was clean and professional. I would recommend this hassle-free makes life easy service to anyone.

Helped me discover a 400w JBL factory amp

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I mainly paid for the installation because of the warranty, but while installing my new Alpine CDA-105, it was discovered that the original owner of the car purchased the premium audio package, which includes a 400w JBL amplifier. I was told that wiring the HU to the amp would take 4 hours or more, and that it wouldn't make a big difference if he bypassed the amp, not to mention they didn't have the proper amp integration harness. So I decided to go ahead and have them bypass the amp - big mistake. After 2 hours it was finally done, but after fiddling around with the settings, I noticed it seemed to lack the power I had before, it's not the HU, which is a great unit, but it was the fact that the amp was bypassed. I will be purchasing an integration harness and rewiring it myself now. I would advise that if you know you have a factory amp pre installed, to run by a local audio/stereo shop and purchase the integration harness and bring it with you so they can hook up your HU through your amp, or check under installation parts if they have the proper harness for your vehicle (the integration harnesses have the RCA connectors). If you bought a used car and don't know whether you have a factory amp or not, its usually located behind/under the glove box, and would be a metallic box (not the one marked as the ECU.)

I had excellent service. I was positively impressed with the whole process; I did not have to wait too long to have it installed. It works great and it looks great. I would recommend this service as it is quick and I was on my way listening to music after it was installed. I don't have any negative observations or experiences with respect to this service; except I did not expect the installation and kit costs to add up to about the same as the receiver. It was worth paying for the skills and professionalism of the service. I plan to have another receiver installed in an older car too since I like the receiver so much and the service. I also liked that there were no surprises. I was told what it would cost and it was within the amount that I wanted to spend.

BEWARE of the Bait and Switch!!!

**BEWARE** I called the McDonough, GA store to get a quote on basic installation of my new Pioneer 4300 head unit in my F-150. I told them exactly what I drove and the head unit I needed to be installed and they quoted me $49, which matched the price on the website. I made the appointment for this past Saturday and dropped my truck off promptly, with the radio and all the needed hardware (mounting kit, wiring harness, etc.). After only 10 minutes the store called me back to say they would have to charge me $99 since it was a double DIN navigation unit and it required extra wiring and labor. I explained that navigation is an optional feature on this unit and I did not have that additional module. Therefore there is NO additional wiring or labor required to properly install the unit. I went inside to speak with the manager, and calmly explained the situation and sequence of events. The manager called the install bay and then gave me the company line about it being their POLICY to charge $99 for all double DIN units to be installed, regardless of if they had navigation or not. At this point I simply asked the manager if they would honor the quote I received on the phone and on the website, and she said no. I let her know that I was disappointed since I have shopped here for a long time and spent a lot of money with Best Buy over the years, and the manager's only reply was "Cool beans". Cool beans; really classy Best Buy. You've seen your last dime from my family.
