Don't get your home theater installed by Best Buy.

My whole experience was not great. It took them several months to get me on the schedule and once they installed my home theater, they left without making sure the subwoofers worked correctly. Then they would not come correct the issue unless I paid a $100 fee. Despite the promise that they would be there to support me, and despite the fact that I am a total tech member. I've wasted 3 hours being passed around customer care with no resolution.

Bought a new 46" LCD Jan 26 and was told the earliest setup possible was Feb 1 (Superbowl Sunday). I said fine and was told they would be out between 8AM and noon. He called the night before and said he was overbooked and it would probably be close to noon, we said fine. I was immediatly disappointed when he showed up alone in a Volkswagon. I knew 2 things right off the bat, 1. he'd need help, and 2. he wouldn't be taking the trash with him. Right on both counts. We had a problem in that the mounting bracket on the stand I purchased wouldn't fit the TV. Not his fault and we decided to proceed, just putting the TV on the table part of the stand. He explained he was the only one that worked on Sunday, that's why he was alone. He proceeded to hook up all the components, TV, BluRay, DVD/VCR, and surround sound system. He neatly tiewrapped the cables, but the pile behind the stand was a mess of spaghetti. He said he still had several other appointments in the day. Since I knew he was rushed, after showing me a couple of basics, I let him go. I got a bracket to modify the stand and am now in the process of rewiring everything to get it the way I want it. I'm having to cut all his tiewraps to make the cables fit and reroute everything. If they had told me he'd be alone, I gladly would have waited until they could have done it right and spend some time explaining things. Maybe then I would have realized how he'd wired things up and could have had it wired the way I wanted it the first time, hooking up components to the SS, leaving enough slack in the cables to account for putting it on the mounting brackets, etc. I'm slowly cutting up the boxes, etc. to feed into the weekly recycle bin. About another 2 weeks and that should be done. Bestbuy really put this poor guy into a bad situation and I will be going back to the store to talk to the manager about it.

Have some common sense

purchased a Samsung TV complete with home theater system and installation, details on order number above. I assumed by purchasing this package, everything that was needed was included as advertised. I assumed that they would come to the house, install everything and leave on the confirmed delivery date. We got the packages individually one by one and on the date the TV came they said they don't install it...you have to make an appointment?? Why would anyone who buys this package want it delivered and installed on separate dates?? How is it even possible that it wouldn't be assumed that the delivery and installation doesn't coincide with one another? Do you think people just like to store huge boxes at home? Then once they came again to install we found we needed another $70 cable that oddly enough was not part of the home theater package. If you needed 2 cables, why not tell you up front?? The delivery people and geek squad were very friendly and I do not blame them...I totally blame the ambiguity of the order which I assumed was clear but did not count on the people writing it had no common sense. When putting these special offers out next time make sure they are clear as to when they are delivered and installed and exactly what was needed as this experience was unpleasant and aggravating and I had to arrange for people to be home on multiple days for this.

After buying a new TV, home theater system and Blu-Ray player, I really didn't want to take the time to mess with all the cords and hassles of getting it all set up correctly. This service was easy to set up. THey called when supposed to, arrived when they were supposed, and the representative who came was extremely friendly. He got things put together well - no problems. My wife and I had to be somewhere that evening (we had not previously planned on) so things were a bit hurried. I'm still not totally convinced I needed as many HDMI cables as he sold me, but what do I know? We decided we would like to get a universal remote - he said that since we were getting that and since we were already running late, he would come back with it and dress the cables at that time. I also got a very cursory and quick lesson in how to work things. That was a month ago, and we still haven't heard back, my cables still aren't dressed, I'm still trying to figure the system out, and I still have my old TV sitting in my garage - in short, the job isn't finished. I called him once and he said he would be calling me to set it up - that was 3 weeks ago. SPeaking of the old TV, the web site said they would take away the old one - he said there was a restriction to 32" or less (mine was 36"). ALso, I had to remind him to take boxes, etc. or I suspect those would have wound up in my garage as well. Our system is set up - it works - he was knowledgeable and polite - the job just isn't finished and my call obviously did nothing. I would recommend to others, but would recommend riding herd on them a bit harder than I did while they are there and being more involved in just exactly what cables I need to buy.

Disappointed

The two gentlemen that showed up worked quickly and did clean up after themselves including the wires. However, they weren't very helpful. They were negative about the items I had purchased. They did not offer any additional information. When I asked if the speakers were calibrated correctly, he shrugged and said yep. No demonstration. No DVD to test the sound system. No detailed explanation of what they did and what was accomplished. I've hand more customer service from an appliance delivery.

I purchase Geek Squad online and you follow up with me 10 days later via postcard to schedule an appointment? What year is this? I thought you were a technology leader. Ever heard of email? I had to wait a week after placing the order online and then had to call customer service to find out what's going on. I had the agent complete all the work in my house by the time I got the stupid postcard.

The price was a bit steep for what had to be done. I already had the home theater set up with an old receiver. They just had to swap out the old receiver and program it to work with the blue ray and tv. The price for service should be broken down to suit the job.

Except for one minor thing, we couldn't have been happier with our experience with the Geek Squad. They were quick to get to work, understood how the components worked individually and worked together. One of them customized the picture on our flat panel, and it's the best pic of all the choices. My wife was disappointed that our new sound system could not support our old multi-CD changer and utilize our old, but terrific, speakers. While one of the fellows was programming the various components into the cable universal remote, the other, on his own, hooked up the CD changer to our old tuner, tape deck and speakers. She was thrilled. These guys really went well beyond the call of duty. They finished up with written instructions for operating our system as a whole and operating the individual units. They were great. The one thing, though, that I wish they, or I, had thought of was to get the serial number off of the BluRay Player before it was fitted into the system. It's going to be a bear to get it now. But overall, I can't rave enough about the work these young men did.

Purchased a Samsung LCD, Onyoko receiver, mirage 5.0 speakers, subwoofer on 2/8. Installation was set for 2/19 12-4pm. At 4:15pm on 2/19 called to see where the installer was and was told "a technician called in sick and you were rescheduled to 2/20 12-4pm at 9am this morning". There was no notification of this change nor even a call to see if the new schedule would work. I informed agent of my displeasure of the lack of notification and warned her that I had plans (it is a sat night after all) and I expected the installer to be prompt the next day. Was told to call in the morning to "double check". Called this morning at 9:45am and was told "oh you've been scheduled for a 4-8pm appt" agent contacted dispatch to double check and was told indeed I could expect the agent between 4 and 5pm.
After this second reschedule without notification I canceled the install and am returning every item. I am interested in spending my hard earned money with a business that shows interest in EARNING my business. I understand that things happen but to randomly reschedule a customer TWICE without even an email or phone call is ridiculous. This is not a "free delivery" its a SERVICE for which geek squad charged me $250 to lose a 1/2 day off work and time on the phone to find out what was going on both days.

I don't know how to set this kind of stuff up, so this was very helpful to me. They unpacked the TV, speakers, DVD, digital cable box, extra cables, etc. and had it all set up and working in no time, plus calibrated the TV from the onscreen menu. They also gave me instructions on how to operate the remote from my digital cable remote. I know some think this is a waste of money, but for me, it was money well spent to save me the HOURS it would have taken me, not to mention the headache. I guess if you already know how all this stuff works together, it might not be a good value, but for me, it was totally worth it.

Had Geek Squad set up new tv, yamaha receiver, klipsch speakers, blue ray player and cable box. The weather was horrible with lots of rain. They took time to put on covers over shoes so that they would not track mud onto carpet. They did an awesome job installing all items and also took time to make sure that I knew how to operate the equipment. Dustin even gave me his cell phone number in the event that I needed additional assistance.

The whole experience was a pleasure. My install time was Sat between 8 AM & 12 PM, they called me first thing Sat morning and said they would be there between 10 and 12 and arrived around 11.
They did it all for me...took away the old TV, set up my theater system & TV as well as connected me back to Directv. They programed my Directv remote so I could use it with my new TV, showed me how to use all my equipment and never once did I feel, they were in a hurry to get away. They cleaned up took away all the boxes etc. They were polite, professional...a real pleasure.
When they were done all that was left for us to do was enjoy our new 52" Sony and theater system.

Hired the Geek Squad to do a Standard Home Theatre setup. Already owned all the equipment and Kevin (Geek Squad) called me at 8:00am on Saturday morning (3/21/2009) and told me he would be there between 9:30am - 11:00am.
He arrived shortly after 10:00am and began his work. He hooked up my Panasonic HDTV, Comcast box, DVD player, CD player and Yamaha A/V receiver. After hooking everything up, we went over the remote controls and he was very through with explaining how everything works.
I would definitely recommend the Geek Squad for home theatre setup.

I'm not at all pleased with the "Geek Squad". When they arrived and put the components together, they didn't have the proper accessory wiring! If you don't know you need it, how are you supposed to have the install completed. I thought the price included the wiring, etc. Next time I'll install myself! Total waste of time and money.

This service saves you the headache of having to do this yourself. You should know however that they will NOT mount any speakers anywhere or do any wall wiring. The guy that came out was very professional and knowledgeable. He was there at the begining of the apnt time verses the end and was in and out fairly quickly. He placed the speakers in the recommended spots and calibrated all of them. He also ensured that everything worked and even set up my remotes to where I could use one remote to run most things instead of 3. He ensured that my wireless (for Netflix, etc...) was also working. Overall, I am pleased with the service. Would be nice if the money paid would include speaker mounting, but overall I would most likely pay for this service again.

The service was great and professional. The tech was fast and the system went in without a hitch. The only hang up is that you have to wait for their card to come in the mail before you can schedule the tech to come. This is Geek squad, I thought it would be done all online!

The installer called about an hour before he arrived to give me an estimate of when to expect him. He disconnected my existing setup, and moved the old TV to the basement. He then reconnected all of my compenents to the new TV, and even did some minor reprogramming on my receiver to make it more user friendly!
I could've probably figured out how to do this all myself, but it would've taken me all day!! I am glad that I purchased the installation service, it saved me the hassle, and now, I know it's done right.

I bought a new home thearter system and found I could not set it up myself. I signed upo for the Geek Squard to come out. They cam out in two days .They came in and set it up ran the speaker wires and programed the whole thing. He was very good and knew his stuff. Very professiona; very neat super job. I would reccomend them to anyone that does not have good knowledge of electronics. It kind of makes you want to buy something else just so you can bring them back to install something else
