the story of Motoko Kusanagi and the events just before the assembly of the team that would become Section 9. 4 separate "borders" or cases that Motoko worked on with the people who would become part of her team. Continued by "Ghost in the Shell: The New Movie"

GITS Arise is a little odd for me. I like that it’s kind of like a reboot/expansion on the original anime, but at the same time- it never captured my attention like the original either. Just seemed like your typical anime (which I don’t watch a lot of). Good for GITS fans though. I’ve got the sets since they look nicer on my shelf.

Follow-up to 1 and 2

Follow-up review from previous 1 and 2; this will be much the same - they all should be in one package, but unfortunately they are not. 3 and 4 dive deeper into a mystery and involve more depth overall.
For the curious, Arise (1 through 4 + New Movie) is a complete-sort-of prequel to the hit Anime series Ghost In The Shell: Stand Alone Complex; which is based on themes and characters presented in the original GiTS manga and later film.
It features a much younger Major Kusanagi; within a younger appearing prosthetic body (simulating for her, and the audience, a feeling of "age" or what might call it for a Cyborg).
It deals with many themes of "self" and identity throughout this mini-series, if a human were to become a cyborg could they still trust their own pysche if it were to be hacked. A larger mystery and story unfolds throughout as well with the Major the tip of the spear.
And of course it's done within a layer of Cyberpunk with an excellent OST. The packaging comes within a box - two films per dual border set. While it doesn't add truly anything groundbreaking for GiTS in particular, it IS a decent entry for Sci-Fi Anime at the very least. If you're fan, its worth collecting.

If you've ever been curious or anxious to discover Motoko K's origin and metamorphosis into the stalwart Major Kusanagi, you'll need to view these continuing prequel episodes of her omnipotent "Arise-ing!" She's magnificent, beautiful, and never takes a step backwards for anyone, including Batou, who despite his might and prowess exists in a digitally unrequited state of love for her, her boss Aramaki, or any unsuspecting nefarious cyber arch-villians "Ghost in the Shell's/Arise's" creators can conjure up to challenge her. Come and experience Motoko's ghost-in-the-shell for yourself and see exactly what Batou is longing for!

Being a major GitS fan since 1994, I can say the Arise series is an excellent prelude arc path in the GitS lore. This set covers Border 3 and 4 (hour long OVA movies) and has the exact same stellar video/sound qualities as the first Arise set.
Hopefully, Funimation will bring over the last Border (episodes 9 and 10 in the TV adaptation) along with the movie followup that just came out to Blu-ray in Japan.
Overall, if you like sci-fi and ever wanted to know who the inspiration to movies like the Matrix along, this movie is for you.

No new ground broken here story wise. Some characters don't look the same as previous films & TV versions. But nobody does this like real Japanese Anime from Japan. Be sure to get companion release Ghost in the Shell: Arise - Borders 1 & 2 for the whole series. And like I always say watch with English sub/Japanese language first , then watch again in English dub...while things are getting better with translations...hearing the original emotional intent of the Japanese actors is always best.

So finally finishing the OVA, it's very nice to see a new series in the franchise. The younger, more sexed-up feminine Major is more inline with the manga. The plot hits on those tropes from the older series asking the question of what it means to be human, or what in the physical world defines humanity in a world overcome by cyberization. I must get the movie that takes place after the events of the OVA.

I am thankful they continue to create more of these in the Ghost in the Shell series. The first legendary film blew me away with such great force that it left me wanting for more and more ... the films that follow can never out do the original, but they are a much welcomed and awesome continuation of a magnificent film creation ...

I'm a "Ghost In The Shell" fan from way back in the 90's when it was fist released in the US. I've seen them all and the movies that accompanied the franchise with much enjoyment. When I saw this is thought, "This better be good" and it was. I'm excited to keep following the new story of this franchise and excitedly await the new chapters!

I became a fan of anime some time ago. I saw 1 & 2 on Netflix. This is definetly the two that follow Boarders 1 & 2, and if you enjoy non-stop action; this 4 DVD Set is for you. Comes with both DVD & Blu-Ray discs. Great price! Add it to your collection, and if you haven't started your collection yet, this is a good place to start. Enjoy!!

Ghost in the Shell keeps delivering fast paced action and deep storytelling in these OVA movies. if you are a fan of the series? then these movies don't disappoint; but make sure you watch Border 1 & 2 first then watch Ghost in the Shell: The New Movie last; before you start watching these

These last two episodes in the latest series in the Ghost in the Shell franchise are just as good as, if not better than, the first two episodes. You can tell, however, that the series is set up for another installment, in order to bring--spoiler alert--the Firestarter storyline to a conclusion.

While I've really enjoyed this show, it just doesn't seem to fit in line with the other movies or series. I personally prefer Stand Alone Complex, but this series is still well above average in the anime genre. If you like the other titles in this series, then I recommend picking this up as well.

Movies are insanely good...... the only issue is that both cases are broken and not just a little crack, broken down the middle back where it folds to open. I wouldn't have minded this but this is the SECOND TIME this has happen and only to the Ghost in the shell Rise Movies.

The second and third movies cap off the Arise series. You get a better footing story wise as to how section 9, the Major and the rest of the group all get started together. Great stories and action in this series!

I'll be honest, haven't actually watched the full videos yet. It's on my to-do list. I've been a fan of the original manga, and the videos/movies that have spawned from it. I have high expectations though.

If you're a ghost in the shell fan I think you'll enjoy this next installment. You get to see a different side to many of the characters and how they came to be who you're use to. I enjoyed borders 1-4 very much.
