I have never seen the anime original version but I thought this movie is very interesting setting. The 4K video quality is great!

I enjoyed this film. It is not perfect but if you give it a chance and not rely on the the critics say you might see this is an enjoyable film.

First, I've been a fan of the original 1990 manga by Masamune Shirow. I was also very impressed with the 1995 anime film. So I'm afraid that after hearing initial lukewarm to bad reviews, I kept putting off seeing this movie until I missed the theatrical release. However, I am very pleased to say that this live action version of the film delivered on a lot of levels - color me impressed! Although the director chose to exactly replicate key moments from the anime instead of producing a truly unique take on the material, I do applaud the effort. And if given a choice between honoring the source material versus a complete Hollywood rewrite to appeal to the taste of a perceived "current movie audience" (hyper-fast and incoherent editing, CGI overload, and major destruction/bombast at every turn)… Well, I'd choose the former every time! This story, like many of my sci-fi favorites, deals with a lot of cool themes: sense of self, what is consciousness, what does it mean to be truly human, the vital connection to others, etc. Like Blade Runner, Total Recall and Moon, Ghost in the Shell needs time to unfold the story and let experiences impact the characters. And speaking of characters, ignorant outcries of whitewashing regarding the role of Major-- All I need to say is if you're familiar with the source material, then you would see how misguided those protests are. Sad, self-righteous people just looking for a trigger to be offended… pathetic. I regret not seeing this in the theater-- It's a gorgeous visual feast, tells a great story, and has a high rewatchability factor! And I'm a big fan of the gorgeous steelbook graphics as well… Two thumbs up!

This movie gets too much flak for no reason. The casting is great, and the movie blends the story of the original anime with it's sequel and some elements of the TV series based on the IP. Worth a watch for sure.

I'm sure this has it critics, but especially for a new comers to the genre it was a satisfying addition to the collection.

For those unfamiliar with the 1995 anime film, Ghost in the Shell, the story is well paced and easy to understand for newcomers. For fans this is a very special experience as the story has a new but familiar feeling. Having seen both original Ghost in the Shell series and movies, I think this live action adaptation did the best job possible in terms of bringing the anime to life. Much of the live action is very much the same as the animated movie. There were a few tweaks to the storyline made but is catering to a mainstream audience with the main iconic action scenes still intact. As we are nearing the age of cybernetic enhancement, this was the perfect psychological thriller of how our consciousness might be transported in the future. It was a perfect rendition of the setting in the series: dark, gritty, cybernetic, futuristic, metropolis and cyberpunk. Nothing could have prepared me for the immersion and dystopia of the senses that brought home so many important issues of the technological age. The acting was far better than expected, the script was believable and the visual effects were stunning. Overall, Ghost in the Shell is a solid movie in the Sci-Fi genre. The atmosphere, effects, music and aesthetics are beautiful. The story is slightly changed but still thought provoking. If this wasn't an adaptation but an original film I'm convinced the ratings would look completely different and the critics would be positive. Don't let negative ratings of super critical anime lovers stop you from seeing this movie. If you have never seen the original Ghost in the Shell - now is the time.

I don't know why so many people hated this movie. I think maybe because they didn't grow up watching the source material, that they might have been lost and didn't catch the knods to the anime.

I watch this movie awhile ago.. seeing it on4k from my 4k player was a whole new experience. the visuals are stunning in 4k. a great addition to my 4k collection. Scarlett was a added bonus.

I have not seen the anime first off, so I can’t compare the story to the original (I would like too). As with most movies today, everything is PG-13, I think an R rating would have helped this movie. The acting was okay, as were the special effects. The story was fine, but the pacing and the wonderment this world should have had was just lacking. If you can get it for cheap (I got it for 5$) I would say go for it.

First I must say that the red Steel-Book Blu-ray case is gorgeous. The Ghost in the Shell film is a solid action/sci fi through and through. I grew up with the original film before ever seeing any remasters or special editions. I have read bad review and bad review about how it doesn't truly stick to the anime and how the story was terrible. This is from the same people who argue that there is no originality anymore and yet like the same cut-and-paste movies. As a stand alone film, and I mean that as if this title had never been heard of before, brand new to everyone, it was a great movie. The visuals are breathtaking, the fight scenes are well acted and the score.. Ladies and Gentlemen, the film score to this by Clint Mansell is like candy for the ears. And unfortunately, the record company pulled the release for the album before it ever had a chance to be in the public's hands and ears. So we have to make due with only listening during the movie. Scarlett Johansson has been acting in some very interesting roles lately, from Lucy to Under the Skin, and as Major (a human brain in a fully synthetic body) she once again proves that women are great as lead-role action stars. Maybe it's one of my favorite movies, Blade Runner, rubbing off on me, but if you go into this knowing that you're about to watch a futuristic film about a woman('s brain) trying to piece together her past while dealing with a half robotic mafia type group, and you enjoy originality, give this a shot. Let the music score and visuals take you somewhere.

This a great value. You get two physical media and a digital copy that will work on various platforms. It's a good deal.

Scarlett Johansson is just amazing in this !! The visual and special effects are clean and crisp! Casting was great all around! This movie is a fun ride and stayed pretty darn close to original anime.

It's reasonably faithful to the anime source material, despite being a Hollywood film. It's also a great looking move.

Despite the negative reviews I enjoyed this movie. Plus its a great test for a 4k HDR and surround sound system.

The movie is entertaining, and is not bad for science fiction. Scarlett as the female lead is great for any movie.

Fun to have but not saving private Ryan. Followed the original fairly well but can't do the graphics.

The colors on this movie is dope. Cast is great and the story. For a 4K film it’s worth the money
