How can you not have this movie in your 4K collection. I just recently got a 4K player and this was a must buy to have in the new collection. This movie is much better in 4K and just happy that I know own a copy of it. The unrated version of the film was better than the theatrical cut. A must buy if you are even thinking about it!

The 4K release of Gladiator is a stunning upgrade with a highly detailed and nicely colored image, and a great Dolby Atmos audio mix 1 2 5 6 . The film's sharp and epic cinematography translates beautifully to 4K, and the dynamic color palette adds depth to the image The opening action sequence is particularly impressive, and the soundstage is large and very strong.

Impressive 4K presentation. The dark colors are amazing thanks to HDR technology. The actors and their acting are superb. Excellent story, as heartbreaking and engaging as it is. The sound is outstanding! Especially, if you have a complete 7.2 surround sound with Dolby Atmos complimenting the Dolby Vision.

Classic movie, even better in 4K. I have seen the movie numerous times, but never have owned it. I’m glad I waited to purchase it, because without doubt this is the best way to experience it. It looks absolutely fantastic in 4K! Great sound, and the SteelBook looks gorgeous as well.

The steel case is awesome, but only giving it one star because the 4K disc will not play on my Panasonic UB820. It’s a 4K player, it will play my other 4K discs, but for some reason it won’t play this movie. I hope Best Buy can do something to remedy this situation.

Finally, they have released a version that captures the movie's amazing visuals as they should be. The 4K HDR format allows for the colors to come through as intended. Vibrant without being artificial. My player doesn't currently support Dolby Vision, but the HDR10 format was fantastic. And my Sony A1E OLED avoided issues with "banding" (or "artificial contouring") that I've had in the past with Blu-Ray and DVD copies on other sets. I'll need to try my standard Blu-Ray copy to see if the banding goes away because of the TV or the format of the movie. The sound was also fantastic. I did not play it on a system capable of handling the overhead sound. But what I got was incredibly engaging, and better balanced with the dialogue than I recall from other copies. I've watched this film many times, but never since the first time I saw it has it been so engaging. My heart was actually beating pretty fast a number of times when viewing this copy tonight! I don't know if it was the improved visuals or the sound that made it so incredibly visceral this time out. Whatever it was, they've clearly finally addressed all the complaints over the years from reviewers saying they took a lazy approach with previous versions. This one seems really cleaned up, as if a lot of time and attention was given. But that's only fitting for such a popular film, and one so meticulously crafted.

Gladiator remains an exhilarating example of epic storytelling grounded in a very personal narrative. Touching on themes of revenge and loss and friendship and political corruption, the movie is as captivating to me as it was in May of 2000. Though its Blu-ray release history proved controversial, I'm elated to say Gladiator has never looked or sounded better. This 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray boasts the film's defining home video presentation, thanks to a 4K scan of the original materials and Dolby Vision High Dynamic Range. It's not perfect, but it's one of the best catalog titles the format has ever seen. Plus, you get a roaring DTS:X sound mix that demands to be played as loud as you can manage. If you're a 4K enthusiast with DTS:X capabilities AND a Gladiator fan, RUN-don't-walk to snag this one. Highly Recommended.

In the final days of Marcus Aurelius' reign, the aging emperor angers his son Commodus by making it known that he wants Maximus, a fearsome and respected Roman general, to be his successor. Power-hungry Commodus kills his father and orders the death of Maximus. But the latter flees, only to discover that his wife and child have been murdered by Commodus. Captured, Maximus is forced into slavery, where he is sold to Proximo, a former gladiator who serves as both mentor and slavemaster. Maximus trains as a gladiator in the arena, where his fame grows. He goes to Rome, intent on avenging the murder of his wife and son by killing the new emperor Commodus. Maximus has learned that the one power stronger than that of the emperor is the will of the people, and he knows he can only attain his revenge by becoming the greatest hero in all the empire.

The definitive version of a classic film

I remember watching Gladiator in the theater back in 2000, in what I believe was the 70MM format. The film blew me away with the sound, acting, and beautiful cinematography. When I bought the DVD, I thought it was reference. When it came to Blu-ray, I thought the transfers were lacking in that they had a red hue and "enhancements" that made everything look worse. I'm happy to say that the 4K version fixes these issues with a new native 4K transfer l, Dolby Vision HDR, and DTS X soundtrack. It looks and sounds better than it ever could, even in a toptier theater back in 2000. If you love the movie, buy it. It also includes the extended edition in true 4K.

The movie is Excellent. It's a classic that should be seen by all. The 4K is also great. This is the prime way to view this epic film. One thing to keep in mind (just an FYI) is that this film takes advantage of a very chopping editing style especially during fight scenes. This was done on purpose to make the action feel more stressful and violent. This is not a bad thing but when I first saw it, I thought the movie was skipping. Just keep in mind, it's not skipping, it just feels choppy on purpose. Hope this helps!

I love this movie, like Shawshank Redemption, I can watch this movie at anytime and from any point in the movie. It is just one of those movies that never gets old and always entertains! But now on HD Blu-ray it looks beautiful. I actually played my original DVD copy and then put on the HD version and was blown away by the difference. The fight scenes and the picturesque shots of Rome looks crisp and detailed. If you have this movie and love to see it time and time again, you owe it to yourself to watch it in HD. You will be entertained!!!!

I did not purchased this movie in Blu Ray, only DVD. So, definitely, the picture improvement is very noticeable! I did not see any video defects, and thoroughly enjoyed the resolution, color saturation, and sound provided in UHD. This refers to the Extended Edition, as I have not seen the Theatrical Edition (also on this disc) yet, but I doubt picture quality would differ.
