Piece of junk, and for anyone out there that says that their system is working fine, pray that you do not need any tech support, good luck. And go to the Better Business Bureau and look at their rating, it is an “F" rating. They have a robot response without giving any help to their customers, they could care less about their customers, it is all about the money.

My wife loves this machine! But our machine was very Inconsistent with etching and cutting. Also you cat return the product to Best Buy or exchange if defective. Glowforge is not great on customer support only wants to give you a refurbished unit. I will not buy from them again. Also if you do buy it makes sure to get the geek squad protection plan that’s the only way Best Buy can help you after purchasing.

This product is absolute garbage. I purchased this along with the glowforge proof material and the premium membership. I have tried to print so many things from the store and 90 percent of it has failed. So far I have gotten 2 pairs of wooden earrings to cut correctly. Do not buy this product.

I love that I can craft inside of my house. A little bummed out that it doesn’t cut certain acrylic like clear, mirror. I do like how compact it is.

Its alright. Nothing to write home about. The magic canvas cost 50 a month after you pay them a thousand for the machine. Do better.

I bought this product a couple of months ago and wanted to put it through it's paces before writing a review. I have several years experience with laser cutters/engravers, and was upgrading from an older machine to something a bit newer/quicker, and perhaps a little more user friendly.
I was immediately impressed by how well this laser worked right out of the box. Had everything set up and printed my first test project within a half hour. It's pretty slick, I think for a first-time laser purchase this thing is pretty much ideal. There are plenty of pre-made projects you can hop into straight away, and even more if you purchase the membership or are in the trial period. The membership wasn't for me in the long run, but it was great way to start off, and for people who don't want to get into the weeds with creating designs and cuts in other pieces of software and importing them into the Glowforge interface, I think it would be well worth the money. Like many users I tend to use GIMP & Inkscape to create my projects, but pretty much any graphics program such as photoshop should work, so long as you can export image files and SVG graphics. So don't let the membership aspect sway you away from this laser; if you feel like you have to pay a monthly fee to use it, you absolutely do not.
I read some reviews talking about the speed of this laser, with some people expressing disappointment with it's speed. That all depends on your perspective. It's important to note that this is a diode laser, not a CO2. If you are wanting to go into large scale production you'll need to invest a lot more money on an expensive CO2 setup, but for the hobbyist or even a small Etsy store I think this laser will do the trick. Compared to my old diode laser, the Glowforge prints at least 6 times faster. Jobs that would take 3 hours to engrave can be done in less than 20 minutes, and the quality is just as good, maybe even a bit better. Cutting speeds are similarly faster. So for me, this thing has been a godsend.
The software took a bit of getting used to, but again I was moving from an entirely different platform. I can safely say that compared to my earlier experiences with lasers the overall learning curve was much, much quicker. I was really impressed with the pre-sets. On my old unit I would waste an hour or more running test prints and grids to get satisfactory results, so I was a really amazed by how often my first print would turn out great without having to tweak any of the settings. The auto calibration and camera really work well on this unit. Initially I was a bit dismayed by the fact it had presets because I was so used to fine-tuning laser power and speed manually, but found that all of these functions are there if you really want to get that exact effect you're looking for.
I'm pretty old-school, I like to back up my photographs to hard drives at my house and not store them on the cloud, so at first I wasn't wild about the platform being cloud based. But that's the way the world is moving, and I certainly haven't had any issues with this aspect, and in fact have fully embraced it.
You can either buy Glowforge certified materials which will be automatically detected, but I have had excellent results by purchasing other non-certified materials as well. Just make sure to buy them from a decent supplier. For more advanced users, you can cut/engrave other materials as well (as long as they are diode laser compatible), but obviously you'll need to experiment a bit to get the settings rights. The Glowforge forum is a great place to go for advice or to see who has already done something similar so you'll have a good starting point. For me this is where a lot of the fun really comes in.
In summary I'd say this is a great diode laser for both the novice and the experienced. The footprint is small, and it's a tidy device that looks great sitting in your craft room (or living room table).

Know what you're buying

Know what you're buying. Glowforge is cloud dependant like Cricut. You'll have to always be online and connected to Glowforge to use it. Also Glowforge has a print que. So if you want to process a job on the Glowforge network, if theres other jobs ahead of you you're waiting for them.
This is a small wattage diode laser. There are stronger better diode lasers on the market with a larger work space.
Now Glowforge has some cool things in it's design space. Like cricut, its user friendly and easy to use.
There are what they call proof grade materials. The camera scans the qr looking code and automated sets your settings. Which is cool but all that proof grade branded material is expensive.

"I'm thoroughly impressed with my Glowforge! Initially, I thought laser cutting and engraving required advanced technical skills, but the user-friendly interface made it incredibly easy to get started. The setup process was seamless, and I was creating projects within minutes.
The versatility of the Glowforge is astounding – I've worked with wood, leather, plastic, and even fabric! The precision and detail are remarkable. The compact design is perfect for small spaces, making storage a breeze.
As a beginner, I appreciated the extensive resources and community support available. The Glowforge team's tutorials and online forums helped me overcome any initial hurdles.
I'm excited to explore endless project possibilities, from personalized gifts to custom home decor. If you're considering a Glowforge, don't hesitate – it's worth every penny!

We purchased this unit and the personal filter. Not 1 instruction paper inside, had to youtube how to setup! Once setup i tried the first print they have setup for the first, it was almost 2hours to cut and engrave a simple box. The Noise is so uncomfortable to be in the room i had to put on noise cancelling head phones. The Filter doesnt make it useable in your family home either!! It still smells really bad from their (1) free 12x12 board. I would not recommend this to anyone! Very slow, noisy, and stinks to high heaven! (With the attached personal filter!) OH and dont forget all those wonderfull 1000s of materials you supposedly can use good luck finding setting there is only very few and its on their proofgrade material so as to make you buy everything from them…

Factory Defect

Brand new unit was DOA - Known “Lid Open” issue. Seems QC missed a missing part so there was no chance of it working. 100% Factory Defect.
So I decide to follow the instructions and contact Glowforge vs my instincts telling me to just return it to Best Buy which would have been hassle free I am sure.
A week of one_email_a_day emails from multiple “customer service” people then finally being told the item was defective and needed to go back to Glowforge. We all knew that day ONE.
So back to Glowforge it goes. I have to prod them TWICE after my return was confirmed received before they finally shipped my replacement and even then, after asking me to confirm my address, they botch the address and FedEx can’t deliver our replacement unit.
So hide and seek with FedEx and then finally, TWO AND A HALF WEEKS AFTER RECEIVING A DEFECTIVE UNIT, we have a replacement.
I sit looking at the new one thinking I should just return this to Best Buy and be done with Glowforge.
Come to find they have a well earned F rating with the BBB as well.
Lesson learned.
