Even if you're hesitant after Godzilla's debut film, where he spent seven minutes on-screen, (in my opinion, it seemed longer than that, but that was based on those 7 minutes being rather jaw-dropping,) GKOM should satisfy, redeem, and get you excited for next year's Godzilla vs King Kong. With Godzilla, Ghidorah, Rodan, and Mothra, there's plenty of Kaiju (or Titans,) action, featuring any mix of them, whether squaring off with each other or one or more trading attacks with the military. And that's where GKOM succeeds: its spectacle is truly second to none- monsters fight, military gets squished, and cities don't fare much better. Even with new protagonists on the human side of things, there's a better human element, with the actors seemingly just given better roles- the roles themselves, along with the storytelling has seemed to evolve from the original, as well. With that said, the characters and plot still aren't nearly the perfect creatures Godzilla and friends are. Where director Michael Dougherty has progressed from anthology fare (Trick R Treat,) to standard feature length, one and a half hour film, (Krampus,) with longer running times, it often feels like there's a bit of padding, largely in the characters themselves, often going too far onto the "show" end of, "show, don't tell," storytelling. Occasionally, telling the audience is necessary, so as to not allow their mind to wander during the story, particularly with extraneous information. All in all, GKOM is a much better film in all aspects than its predecessor, and will certainly have you ready for Godzilla vs King Kong. What it may ALSO have you ready for, upon multiple viewings, is to hit the fast forward button to move past several scenes of exposition to get you to where it excels: sweet, sweet Titan destruction.

    Godzilla 2 3D Review

As a movie, its not the greatest, and its not as well choreographed as Pacific Rim on the pop corn fluff side. But, it still does have its moments when showing off the monsters and scale. However, in terms of the audio and video, this is really a joy, especially the audio. I am specifically referring to the DTS HD track here (not the Atmos) that plays with the 3D disc. You will know within the start of the movie that your Subwoofer is present. The score does get lost a little bit when some of the action kicks in, but I thought it was for the best since the score wasn't very memorable for me. The 3D while not as impressive as Avatar (still my gold standard), does have scenes where you do see the depth in an awe inducing way (when the monsters are shown fighting above/to the side with the people still in frame). Those are quiet nice. Overall, its very depth oriented than scenes where things come out of the screen. However, good thing about the transfer, at leas from what I could see, was it did not contain any 3D related artifacts. Lots of people complain that the movie is dark, but I thought things were quiet visible. On the same note, people complained upon release that they couldn't make out what was going on due to the darkness. Having seen the movie now, I think that is an exaggeration. So 3D good and technically well done, but not on an epic level. Audio, definitely on an epic level with the DTS HD track (can't comment yet on Atmos since I only saw the 3D version still)! One of my favorite from now on.

Right from being a child and watching the Hana Barbera cartoons and stomping round the house pretending to be Godzilla, Baffled by many of the reviews saying to much Kaiju action or poor director etc. This film was clearly made by a dedicated and passionate Godzilla fan. The sheer amount of Easter eggs and fan service which had me grinning is incredible, (yet knowledgeable Godzilla fans on RT seem to not have noticed any of this) and talk about the likes of fire breathing dragons ><! Anyway the film is awesome. One of my favourite films of all time. Definitely my favourite Godzilla film. The effects are incredible. The music is awesome. You will be grinning from ear to ear at certain points. I actually like the human cast. I liked 2014 Godzilla but did not like the main cast Aaron Tailor Johnson. Did not have those issues here. They play imo a good supporting cast to the main cast you care about - The Titans :)! I'm super excited to see what happens next in the monsterverse. Make sure you stay till the VERY end of the credits scene or for a final scene hinting at wha could be to come ;)! I would also encourage you to write a review also should you watch and enjoy the film. Let's not let the likes of Rotten Tomatoes deter people from seeing a very fun and entertaining Godzilla movie :)!

The godzilla movie i have been waiting for my entire life is finally here. Ghidorah has always been a guy in a suit and when flying he was always obviously on strings (which for the time was pretty good as far as effects go and honestly part of the charm with the old toho films was its cheesiness) BUT THIS MOVIE? Ghidorah is alive and looking amazing like never before, finally looking like the true adversary to our beloved godzilla. I absolutely think for any Godzilla fan the blu-ray is a must have for your collection, the bonus material is really interesting and its just amazing. I went to see this with my best friend who doesnt know much about the franchise and even she told me for a non godzilla fan (she only saw the previous 2014 Godzilla movie that this is a sequel to) and she confirmed this was a really great movie, so it doesnt matter if you're new to Godzilla, or an old die hard fan of the franchise, this movie is great. So what are you waiting for? Go watch it!

I've lost faith in modern cinema because everything is either a lazy reboot/remake/sequel or another boring, cookie-cutter superhero film (which I'm beyond tired of). Nothing seems to have anymore passion or love put behind it. This film, on the other hand, is the exception. While yes, it is a sequel to a reboot, you can tell that the filmmakers (director Michael Dougherty, in particular) love the franchise and set out to make the best possible movie they could. And that they did, as this is easily one of the most entertaining movies I've seen in awhile. The story is surprisingly good for a kaiju film, the characters - while not super deep - are relatively likable, the monster battles and visual effects are excellent, the acting is great, and the score is second-to-none. My only complaint is that I like the realistic camera perspectives from the 2014 film better. In this one, the camera seems to "float" in some shots, and it can sometimes throw off the scale of the monsters. But honestly, its such a minor nitpick that it's barely even worth mentioning. If you haven't seen this movie......well, what are you waiting for?! Go watch it now! You won't regret it! P.S. - The Blue Öyster Cult cover was a nice touch! :)

Soooooo, this movie got quite a bit of bad press, with reviewers complaining about the weak plotline. There's a grieving family, a kidnapping, some environmental nonsense, military intervention, blah, blah, blah. WHO CARES???? Since when does anyone watch a Godzilla film to see plot anyway? THERE BE MONSTERS HERE!!!! You really do need the 4K to appreciate the stunning emergence of the new Mothra. Rodan is fierce and bad to the bone, and Ghidorah's heads have some particularly wicked design and personality (though Kevin tends to steal the show). As for Godzilla, he has all the rage and attitude of an angry trucker who's been cut off from his exit ramp. The kaiju battles are seriously awesome, and even incorporate some new critters, including a cool wooly-mammothy looking guy. The recreation of the Lion King opening was a truly inspired touch as well. A fun experience for those of us who grew up as fans of the big green guy!

In terms of quality, Warner Bros has put together one of the best 4K Blu-ray sets of the year right here with Godzilla: King of the Monsters. The video quality is superb, and the default Dolby ATMOS sound is simply astounding, with monstrous bass, clear dialogue, and plenty of surround sound for nothing short of an immersive and destructive experience - which is AWESOME for a movie like this. The packaging includes the 4K UHD along with the standard Blu-ray disc and a digital copy, so this set is definitely worth picking up. If you have a 4K TV, 4K Blu-ray player, along with a good surround sound system, expect awesomeness and reference theater quality picture and sound. If you're a Godzilla fan and a home theater fan, you won't be disappointed.

I watched this movie in the theaters when it came out and knew I just had to get it in it's 3D format! I pre-ordered it and waited...and then my 3D TV broke (heat from the board plus the Summer heat= overheated board)! I ended up watching the Blu-Ray in it's 2D format instead when the 3D Blu-Ray came out (the beauty of 3D Blu-Rays is the inclusion of the 2D as well)! Still good, and the extras (like deleted scenes) are okay. When my replacement board parts came in and I was able to fix my 3D TV, the first movie I put in to test was THIS movie! The whole family enjoyed watching the movie the way I saw it in the theaters! It's a shame that many U.S. companies are moving away from the 3D format, making me buy from the U.K. and Germany a lot of my 3D movies, but as long as companies like Warner Home Video keeps making 3D Blu-Rays, I'll keep buying them! I didn't buy order/pre-order Bumblebee and X-Men: Dark Phoenix anywhere because there were no 3D Blu-Rays available in the world, and I will refuse to buy them unless either they make a 3D version on video, or if those two movies end up in the $5 bargain bin!

I Love Godzilla and all Godzilla Movies! Call me a GODZILLA FREAK or a GODZILLA GEEK! I don't mind. This movie had/has some (many) bad reviews, but, I really, really Liked it, Especially in 3D! For 3D lovers, All Movies are Awesome. So much more detail you miss in 2D!!! Passive 3D is the way to go! And My Magnolia Lg 65in 4K 3D TV upscales EACH EYE to 4K and not HD like most 4K 3D TV's. I Verified this with LG Tech support, because many people said I was Wrong and I'm only getting 1080p in each eye when in 3D mode. Well, They were/are Wrong! So, Everything is better in 3D!!! I can't stress it enough, You MISS so MUCH DETAIL without 3D!!! Let me step off my soapbox. This movie is GREAT! I Buy Everything from BEST BUY! Their Price Match Guarantee is Awesome! Their Service is Superb! I hope you Enjoy the movie as much as I do! Too bad so many People missed out on 3D TV's when they were still on the market. You can buy used ones and rarely New Old Stock. You can Buy them Overseas and have it shipped. 3d is very popular in Asian Countries and European Countries.

Godzilla King of Monsters picks up 5 years after the 2014 Godzilla. Monarch has been hiding the fact from the human race that the Titans or monsters actually exist...to prevent a panic. But the government wants them destroyed after the 2014 attack by the Mutos and Godzilla. Dr. Sarasota wants the government to understand that without Godzilla the human race could be destroyed. So they ask Sarasota " what do you want to do make Godzilla our pet"...he States " No we would be his". The store line is well done. The acting is also well done considering you have people pretending to act with a 500 to 400 foot monsters that truely aren't there. The CGI effects are incredibly well done. I've personal been a Godzilla fan since 1972, and I own almost all the old Touhou movies of Godzilla. It's nice to see a bit of a new twist being done. Big thanks the Touhou studio's for letting Warner Bros barrow Godzilla the mat well know monster in history. This is a great have for Godzilla fans... because you get to see Rodan, King Ghidorah, and Mothra for the first time since the 1970's

If you're a fan of Godzilla and its franchise, you'll enjoy this recent sequel to Godzilla (2014). If you haven't seen Godzilla (2014), I highly recommend you do so before watching Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019). I have always enjoyed these movies going back to the original Japanese versions of the films created by Toho. These recent updated American versions by Legendary Pictures have reinvigorated my interest into this well known monster universe. The film, in my opinion, delivers action, adventure and quite a bit of variety of monsters that I feel is what is making this monster universe a success. Sit back and watch Godzilla, Mothra, Rodan and Ghidorah fight for dominance in this fictitious world along side human kind. I can only hope that Mothra gets her own film as this monster universe continues to expand and grow. I'm looking forward to the next level of pure cinematic fun and joy that this movie franchise is set to take us on. Hint - Godzilla vs Kong.

Dolby Atmos mix is every bit as good as expected, and then some. Plenty of discrete channel separation and strong panning effects here; many scenes do a great job of enveloping viewers right in the middle of the action, and the low end is represented exceptionally well to boot. Dialogue is often front and center for the rare intimate conversations, while others are quite crowded and spill into the rear channels -- the same holds true in larger, cavernous locales. Bear McCreary's original score also holds its own; although there's less music than you'd think, it kicks in when needed and adds a predictable amount of on-the-nose support during epic battles, intense stare-downs, and a few of the more somber moments as well.

While not a perfect film, it is undoubtedly the best-looking imagining by a long shot. I am a godzilla fan of the 60-70's era having grown up with the old films and you can tell it was made by someone who loved the franchise. The human story is fairly basic but I thought the actors did quite well for the amount of time they were on screen. It was never boring as the film is constantly on the move from the very beginning. I admit for my own preferences nowadays I might have preferred the slightly more realistic/serious tone direction-wise that the prior 2014 film was aiming at (I know now I got biased by that very first trailer for the film which just casually and unsuspectingly blew all sorts of emotions out of the depths of my childhood) but this was still a highly entertaining popcorn movie -- there are just scenes I can watch over and over. It stood up to multiple viewings as I found I actually missed quite a bit of lore and easter eggs and some plot points in my initial viewing (or two) at the theater. In addition to the spectacle and scale I also did like the clear sense of personality and intelligence in the creatures -- these are not just super-sized dinosaurs.

The Best of the Hollywood Godzilla Movies

This was definitely more for Godzilla fans than it was for critics. It was way better than the 2014 film that got Certified Fresh. They do over-do the family drama again though. Especially when the family drama makes no sense. Mark Russel (Kyle Chandler) blames Godzilla for the death of his son. He wants all monsters dead. Mark’s wife Emma (Vera Farmiga) says screw mankind. The monsters will cure the planet of Climate Change. So, in another words who cares if anyone else loses family members. Due to her plan to unleash all monsters. Her daughter Madison (Millie Bobbie Brown) sticks with her. Despite her mom teaming with some bad men with guns. Who kill some nice scientists right in front of her. Mark is the sanest one in that family. Even if there’s too much of the humans and a silly plot. This is the best of the Hollywood Godzilla movies. Critics are just wrong. One even said the Roland Emmerich version is better. What drugs is that critic on ? The battles are some of the best done of any monster vs monster battle. Unlike the first film this one has a ton of Godzilla history to it. It shows him way more and shows the character great respect.

This is a great steel book. I bought this primarily because I didn't like the standard cover for the blu-ray. The front cover is Godzilla (as you can see), the back cover is King Ghidorah. Both look great, the inside covers are Rodan and Mothra. It comes with the 4K Blu-ray, the regular Blu-ray, and the digital copy. The movie itself is great in my opinion, but I am also a fan of the original Godzilla movies so my opinion is a little skewed. The picture quality turned out very well on a Samsung 49" Q70 TV, I can't comment on the sound quality as I was using the TV speakers. Still, if you're considering buying the movie in 4K I would recommend picking this version up for the better packaging.

Forget what the critics said about this movie. Godzilla: KOTM is a love letter to kaiju fans. From a plot perspective, the story involving the human cast was actually compelling. The scene with Dr. Serizawa and Godzilla was surprisingly emotional. Modern technology gives Godzilla the 21st century treatment - a far cry from the SFX of the original movies. I prioritized seeing this movie over Avengers and Spiderman during the summer. I never bothered to see the original as I was waiting for the inevitable sequel. Enjoy some pure escapist fun and nostalgia from your childhood.

The movie apparently do well by critic standards, even though it still made money. I enjoyed the movie just fine, even though the center-of-earth thing seemed a little dumb. I was still entertained nonetheless. Now to what I rate & judge UHD 4K discs: the video and audio quality. The visuals were good but I can't say anything standout nor any glaring HDR effects stood out, as most of the movie is dark throughout. However, I would rate the Dolby Atmos as one of the best in my movie collection. There are a lot of surround and overhead effects with the planes and monsters throughout the entire movie. Unlike most movies, you get overheads in many scenes throughout the film.

I've enjoyed these movies since I was a kid and this is one of my favorites of all time (saw it twice in theaters). Strikes a good balance between monster battles and the human plot. Vast improvement over the 2014 Godzilla reboot. Big fan of a lot of these cast members as well from other shows and movies, they did a great job both making it dramatic and pulling off the handful of corny one-liners that fans of the franchise know and love. Can't wait for Godzilla vs. Kong.

So much fun. A lovely re-imagining of Godzilla, King Ghidora, Rodan and Mothra, Plus some nice Skull Island nods, and fun new kaiju. Mike Dougherty knocks it out of the park, (as he often does.) A delightful rollercoaster ride of a movie, made by a team who clearly loves the original Godzilla series and the entire Toho monster library. And Bear McCreary's music is absolutely fantastic. (And for you nay-sayers out there, who suffer from over-criticism, sure there are a few times where the logic runs thin -- it IS a summer blockbuster, it is not optimized for your left brain, it is optimized for your right brain. If you cannot stifle your inner logic-cop then you will not enjoy this movie to the fullest and that's too bad.) It is so much fun! I can't recommend it enough.

This movie so much better than the first one in 2014. I love this whole cinematic universe building up. Godzilla looks so much better than he did before. I love that I get to hear the classic roar mixed with the modern tone as well as their invented roar. King Ghidorah definitely looked like a force to be reckoned with....a king of dragons. Mothra was a new image I've never seen before, and I never thought that she'd be a better partner to Godzilla than Rodan. And I was surprised and impressed by the new kaiju (titans); they're like nothing I've seen before. It was awesome that I saw Dr. Serazawa touch Godzilla's snout with his bear hand, but it's sad that we won't see him again. I really like Millie Bobby Brown's character. This Godzilla movie rules!
