The sleek modern design combined with the technical features packed in the sensor makes it really unique. It is a single sensor which can track sort or window open close through the pairing magnet and the same can also detect motion clearly from up to 12-15 feet. Not only that it has an elegant led light built in which you can turn in by pressing at the bottom. Blends perfectly well with door and window frame and can be glued or screwed in. The same device can be put on the wall as a motion detector. Unlike other brands which has different units for motion detector vs for window monitor the nest detect can be used as both interchangeably.

Install was as easy process - we used the adhesive mounting option on our doors, windows, and walls, and they stick incredibly well.
These Detects are very flexible in what they can do. Nice design and the functionality is also superb. They have a feature which allows the user to activate the motion sensor in the device which can ignore small pets. I've tested this with a few small dogs and it's working incredibly well - not once has the alarm triggered with the motion sensors enabled despite the pets walking up/down the stairs where the sensors are placed. Yet, it works very well with people and all other types of motion. Perfect for people with small pets.
The Nest app offers great customization options on a per Detect device basis. Great for those who have several of those (as we do) in their home.

Placement is the key to using these, you only get 2 in the secure package. Example in my kitchen u have to walk pass my back door to get to the Windows. So instead of place a secure on window just place on the door since it will activate the motion sensor. When u put the detect on a window the motion sensor is deactivated and only detects if window is open. When it is on a door it does both. So I have 2 more detects in corners on the wall that are angled across the path of the Windows, so system will detect anyone come from window area.

I had the Nest alarm for a couple of weeks. I purchased one of these sensors for every entry to my home including all windows and doors. That was expensive, really expensive. I didn't find the operation of the sensors to justify the expense when compared to what other alarm systems can do for less money.
I installed all of the sensors and verified their functionality. I am quite good with technology and fully research how things work before evaluating them. I say this because one of my sensors kept indicating it was off line. This means it would not sense if the window were open or closed. The app doesn't alert you when the sensor is off line, it just doesn't work. You have to open the app, go to each sensor, then review the history of the sensor to see if it went off line. That didn't instill much confidence in the sensor's reliability. I uninstalled the sensor through the app then paired it with the alarm again. Same issue occurred. The issue was with the sensor itself as this sensor was within 25 feet of the base station so proximity wasn't an issue. Given the function of the sensor and the price I don't feel like anyone should have to worry about it going off line so often.
The sensors pack a lot of function which is why they cost so much. The quiet open button is awesome, press it and you can open the door or window its on without setting the alarm off. Close it back and the sensor arms again. Each sensor also acts as a motion sensor which adds some convenience. You can install the sensor on a door and you can program it to sense motion and if the door is opened. This saves a bit as you don't need a motion sensor near the doors. Of course you can disable this if you want and it is automatically disabled for windows. Programming the sensors to the alarm is the easiest thing I've ever done with an electronic. You literally open the app, scan the sensor QR code and tell the app where your installing the sensor. It then guides you on how to install it and tests the function when your done. The included mounting hardware can be used with screws (provided) or sticky tape (provided). The sticky tape is strong, no fear of sensors falling off at any point.
Given that these go so many other places it doesn't make financial sense to invest in the nest system for a larger home as your windows will end up with expensive sensors that don't use the extra functions. Hopefully Nest releases some cheaper sensors at some point.

Great for adding to your Nest alarm system. Love that it lights up as a night light and works as a motion detector/door sensor/window sensor. Simple to connect. No issues and batteries seem to last quite a while.

At first I thought this was a pricy item until I was told by a Best Buy employee that this sensor is a door silencer when it’s armed to stay by pressing the button before exiting. It’s also a motion sensor and a temperature sensor too. I also like how it lights up at night as a patch light to the door! Neat...

I am very happy with nest detect. I basically am very impressed with the entire DIY nest security system. The nest detects which are applied to doors, windows or even walls work as they say they do. Sensors on windows and also motion detection included when placed on a door or wall and light up when motion detected. They are slim and attractive. Installation is a breeze with the nest app. Very glad I went with nest security.

Good two-in-one sensor

A little expensive but this is a two-in-one sensor. You get both a door/window sensor, and motion sensor in one. When you place on doors, it detects opening/closing and also works as a motion sensor. On windows there is no motion sensing. I added these to several of my windows, both doors, and one in the hallway for motion sensing. I have 3 cats and the reduced sensitivity is working great with no false alarms so far. Follow the instructions exactly on where to mount them and what height you need to install them, if using the reduced sensitivity.

These sensor are pretty neat. They sense motion. They know when a door opens and closes. They have the super convenient quiet open feature and a path light at night. The only issue I have is that they’re always disconnecting going offline. This can be annoying since you expect the sensors to perform at all times in case of an emergency. They are pricey but worth the money if they could fix the disconnecting issues.

Best Buy was one of the few places that actually had these in stock. I wanted to add these right away and did not want to wait for an online order.
The QR code on the back of the unit makes it easy to add to your Nest system through the App. It paired easily with the system and was ready to go in a few minutes.
They are a bit on the pricey side, but with integrated motion detection I can understand the cost.

Installing nest secure was a snap as well as the 2 provided nest detect. I decided to buy 2 more nest detect for 2 other doors.
I have been trying to install the 2 new detects, the the nest secure does not connect and I get an error message.
Tried the various suggested fixes from the nest boards. Nothing works and I am not alone. This seems to be a common problem.
Nest help line is not in service due to Covid 19.
I was going to try a reboot to the factory settings, but I am not sure if the nest secure will recognize the original nest detect previously installed.
Any help?

Brand response from Nest Support

Hi Oldenenglish,
Thanks for sharing your experience. We're sorry to hear of the difficulty with setting up the additional Nest Detects.
The issue could be with Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, or the communication between other Nest products. We suggest trying the below troubleshooting steps:
1. Check for an update to the Nest app. 2. Reboot your phone and network equipment. 3. Restart your Nest Guard by disarming your system and pressing the “5” key (the button with the raised dot) for 15 seconds. 4. Restart Nest Detect by holding the button for about 10 seconds. When the light ring pulses blue, release the button. 5. Bring Nest Guard and Nest Detect closer for setup, but not too close (about 3 feet.) 6. Make sure your phone is connected to the same Wi-Fi network. 7. If you have any other Nest products in your home, such as a Nest camera or Nest Protect, at least one of them needs to be within about 30 feet (10 meters) of Nest Guard or Nest Detect. 8. Check for an update on your Nest Guard by pressing and holding the “2” key on your Nest Guard. 9. Reset your Nest Detect to factory by holding the button for about 15 seconds. When it starts to pulse yellow, release the button. 10. As a last resort, you can reset your Nest Guard to factory defaults. You'll need to re-setup your existing Nest Detects.

I already had the nest gaurd with a couple detects so this was just an add on but let me tell you, the amount of tech they fit in these is incredible!! They motion sense, can detect glass break, know the difference between people and pets, can light the way for you at night, and maybe my favorite function, can be individually silenced if you want to just step out while leaving the house armed. Great product google

Something to keep in mind is that these Nest Detect also works as a motion sensor when installing in the door. Important when you are making a decision of how many and where to install them.
Easy to install, peel and stick or screw to the wall. It comes with a flat or corner wall mount.
So far after 4 months, very happy with the purchase.
