I bought 6 of these to protect my whole house, they are great, easy to setup, have a night light feature that my wife and I just love and also network between each other and Nest so if one goes off they all go off, it even links into our nest thermostat to enhance the away feature. They also let you know the battery is good when you turn your light out to go to sleep by blinking green a couple of times, which is good to know you won't get woken up in the middle of the night for a low battery. These are some of the most expensive fire and carbon monoxide detectors on the market but are well worth it as Nest has packed them with features, plus what price can you put on feeling safe. For me they are worth the purchase price.

Perfect companion to the nest as I don't have a nest upstairs, so this will help with detecting that we are 'home'. Easy install of wired version. Best smoke/carbon monoxide alarm available.

First and foremost it gives you smoke detector and carbon monoxide protection which has its own color alert and sound. The added benefit I like is that once you register the device onto the Nest app. you can monitor the device online. It has a night light the glows once it senses a moving object. Every activation is logged into the history. Its a nice feature that I used when I was on vacation and I can check to see if the night light activated which it did not. That gives me relief that no one has entered my home.

Easy to install- press a button on the alarm and it runs you thru the process. This wifi option is great as it monitors itself to make sure it is working every day (no loud noises though when doing this). It is smoke and CO2 detector. I have purchased 3 and they all work in tandem. I was sanding near one alarm and it went off (loud noise and voice command). All of the alarms went off so if someone was in another area they would know there were problems somewhere else in the home. Batteries are long lasting so no need to forget to replace them every change in time. Must have for you and your fmaily's safety.

I bought a bunch of these to bring my house up to code, along with a couple of the hard-wired version (my house had two hardwired detectors).
Setup was a breeze. We already had a Nest thermostat, so the app was ready to go. You just follow the instructions in the app, and each Nest Protect is set up in under a minute. Get them all set up . and installed, then test. The test runs through both the smoke and CO alarms, and because they're interconnected, when one sounds, they all sound. This is especially important to my family...if a fire starts in the basement, we'd like to know about it in our upstairs bedrooms before it becomes a mighty, unescapable blaze. Another cool feature is that the Nest Protect just doesn't give beeps -- it also pulses red and tells you which detector is alerting. You'll hear something like, "Emergency - there's smoke in the basement." So you'll know not only that something may be wrong, but also where the problem is.
The Nest Protect works over your wifi and its own built-in wireless connectivity. If there's a fire or other issue and your wifi goes out, the Nest Protect can still communicate with each other. The Nest Protect battery-only and hardwired versions communicate with each other flawlessly, so you can have a mix of battery-only and hardwired.
I wound up installing these at my parents' house and brother's family's house as well.
One side note too...we have a Ring alarm system, and you can get a Ring smoke/CO listener and place it near any Nest Protect. If the Nest alarm sounds, it'll trip the Ring alarm and notify the fire department.

Once connected a breeze. Installation on iOS not so easy when you already have a Nest thermostat. When you have a Nest thermostat, uninstall this first then install the Protects. When everything is working add back the nest thermostat. If you don’t want monthly automatic tests then turn this feature off. You will also have to turn on the override from app for the alarm, otherwise it defaults to having to push the button on the Protect. Great feature is that you can set the AC to go off automatically in case of excessive smoke or fire. Not sure why google doesn’t have Apple’s convenience for setup.

User friendly Smoke/CO Alarm

Smoke/CO Monitor. It comes with a bunch of useful features (self-test, warning voice with the location name, night light). It can also be networked, so that any alarm detected by one Protect is broadcast to the others. The Nest app can be used to disable the alarm (useful when away from home). Comes with long-lasting Lithium AA batteries.
It is more expensive option though, compared to other basic models available.

This review assumes that you are familiar with connected home devices and that you are not paranoid about Google spying on you. It is not a commentary or analysis of Google or Nest.
I purchase two Nest Protects because I work in a detached office where I have a lot of computers and other electronic equipment connected to multiple extension cords.
Deep down, I am always concerned about a fire starting at night or while I am away from home.
The Nest Protect is the perfect solution because it will alert you via your smartphone AND it will alert other Nest Protect devices and any devices with a Google Smart home Speaker.
By installing another Nest Protect in my house, I will now know if a fire starts in my office while I'm in the house or vice versa.
The setup was as easy as any smart home device from Google, Ring, Apple Home Kit, etc.
If you have never set up a connected home device, I suggest giving it a shot on your own but have a person who can help you available in case you run into trouble.
The Nest Protect is as loud as you'd expect from any other smoke/CO detector.
It does not have a microphone in it (to the best of my knowledge), so if you're paranoid about Google listening in, you should be safe. Unless you are using an Android phone. But, that has nothing to do with this product.
It works very well with the Google Home app on Android or iPhone.
I definitely recommend it over other smart smoke detectors I have researched. However, if you just need a smoke detector and the smart features aren't important to you, I recommend going with a $40-60 dumb alternative.

Initially grabbed the wrong unit. I wanted a wired version but purchased battery operated one. Best Buy exchanged without issue. Installation was maybe ten minutes. I was replacing a forty year old wired smoke only detector. Unit has a lot of benefits. CO and smoke detection plus at night as you approach the unit the light comes on to light your way. Not a blinding light but enough to help you see in the dark. Highly recommend this unit plus you can pair with multiple units.

We had two separate devices for smoke and carbon dioxide. In the middle of the night, we started hearing beeping very 10 seconds or so. The battery was dying and it was very annoying when woke up. We pulled the battery and a week later decided we needed something different with no more late night false alarms. Our solution was the Nest alarm. It tests itself weekly and tells me the results in an app. It also emails both my husband and I. As Nest launches additional devices we’ll be able to add on and control it from the app.

I have a Nest thermostat, web cams, Google Home and 2 Protects in my home. They all work fantastic together and all through one app. These were very easy to install and manage through my app. It even will send you a message if it goes off, like when I burn something in the kitchen. An added benefit that I didn't know about this when I bought it is that it has a night light on it. When you walk under it the light will turn on and light up the hallway for you. It is a very dim blue light but is just enough for you to see where you are going at night.

The detector (mine is battery powered) was simple to install. It connected easily with the Nest app. There are features I did not know were included: 1) a motion detected night light. I did shut that off to save the batteries because it came on each time the cats walked by them. 2) system status light, when you shut all the lights off a light comes on briefly showing you if the alarm is working properly. These plus the other features make the detector well worth the few extra dollars.

Great battery life. Great alerts when battery is running low. Will not wake you up in the middle of the night with an annoying beep.
