I've owned this device for about two weeks now and I really enjoy the experience that it brings. I have the core m3 version. Pros: 1) Pretty lightweight 2) Snappy due to recent updates, not seeing the lag that initial reviewers had mentioned upon initial release. 3) Screen is very bright and is great for watching videos. 4) Can install some android apps to increase functionality 5) Battery life is very good usually around 7-10 hours depending on type of usage. 6) Great alternative to the iPad Pro. 7) Has a full desktop browser instead of the mobile browsers. (this is a really important feature to me if this is going to be my computer replacement because some webpages don't load correctly on mobile) 8) Build quality feels really nice. 9) the keyboard and pen feel really nice and are great items to accompany this item. Cons: 1) chrome os is still a bit clunky to use. 2) no where to conveniently store the pen. 3) using the google keyboard folio takes a little getting use to all of the different combinations that it can be folded. Overall, its a great laptop/tablet for travel if you need a full desktop browser and need something for watching videos and taking care of some light work.

From a build quality standpoint.. It rocks.. Speakers are nice. The ChromeOS + Android Play store is nice. The 799.00 model is the way to go providing you don't need to download a lot of media content). The screen is very impressive and runs smooth. These are the good points. Battery life is good as well. It does run a little warm after a while but if you have it docked with keyboard, you should be fine. The keyboard is impressive (but $200.00 .. -Really Google !!) Now from a Developer Standpoint: I actually purchased the device for he ability to run Linux (for development). I wanted the best of both worlds, tablet and laptop capability. My development tools ran decent (Visual Studio Code). Postgres SQL etc.... The only issue is that when developing applications locally they run fine, except for when you try to transfer them to another environment, that's when you have issues. Also some other very important development quirks existed in regards o Javascript developemnt (Reactjs and Redux) in particular & Debugging tools not performing properly inside of VS Code. So if you are looking to use the device for development, the experience is "Sub Par" .. Not quite there. So for an overall experience in terms of using it for a good laptop/table hybrid (it's fine..) , It performs as expected. To be honest, I actually liked it so much that I was thinking about re-purchasing it again and just do development through a remote desktop or citrix session and enjoy it for all of the other benefits an features.

Too expensive for the spec they offer. But the tablet itself is very good. Screen is not as bright as pixel book but colors are punchier in slate. M3 is adequate for browsing and streaming videos. Battery lasts long time compared to Samsung chromebook pro. No noticeable lag when I compare this tablet to samsung chromebook pro. One downside is that this has no headphone Jack nor micro sd slot. Also the slate keyboard is only good in flat surfaces. Anyway, I am generally happy with this product.

I was looking for a smaller screen to switch from my 15 in. Acer Chromebook and gave this little machine a try. I bought the special bundle with keyboard and stylus included and it's worth every cent. The screen is beautiful, speakers are a big upgrade from my previous Chromebook and the tablet functionality is great. Applications and websites load fast and most games run smoothly. Plus, it has access to the Android and Linux ecosystems as well.

There are desktop PCs, Windows laptops, a Chromebook, an iPad mini, and some android tablets in my house. None of them are as versatile as the Pixel Slate (paired with the optional Brydge keyboard.) It covers 95% of what I would use a Windows computer for in a highly portable package. It's very fast. It doesn't need daily virus updates. The screen is plenty bright. The speakers are easily the best I've heard in a tablet or laptop. So what's the problem? I didn't discover this until after the return period expired, but this unit won't turn on unless the power adapter is plugged in. It's not a battery issue...it's fully charged and runs fine for hours unplugged. It just needs the power adapter plugged in to "jump start" it. This issue isn't happening on all units, just some. I'm going to contact Google for an RMA. It's a shame, but it happens. I'd give this 5 stars otherwise.

Got the M3 model when it was on sale. It runs smoothly with half a dozen tabs open. The screen and speakers are all excellent. The form factor is slim and sleek. The battery lasts as expected. It's heavier than I thought or hoped, and attracts fingerprints. A stand like the one on the Surface would've been nice especially its weight makes it less comfortable to hold by hand. The cameras work, but nothing to write home about. For any productivity tasks, a keyboard is highly recommended (the couple popular keyboard options would also solve the stand problem).

Purchased this for the Black Friday price at $200 off and included the pen and keyboard. It's a really fun piece of tech, especially if you're on the Google ecosystem. The screen looks fantastic, is very lightweight and has surprisingly good built in speakers. At the BF price and bundle it was a no brainer, and I'm really enjoying it. At the normal price I think you'd probably get a better value with the Pixelbook Go or one of hp/Samsung's Chromebook offerings.

I was looking for a tablet to replace my aging Kindle Fire as well as another Chromebook to replace my Samsung Chromebook that I had purchased in 2013. The Pixel Slate combines the best of both worlds. The molecular display is awesome especially when viewing movies in 4K. The sound quality is really clear as well. In regards to performance, you can do split screen and multitasking functions with most of the apps. Some of the Android apps do not split screen but are still functional in other modes. I also purchased the keyboard and pen. Both are very responsive and have shown little if any lag with the functions I use them for. The key board is a very nice typing experience and the back lighting is a great feature when working in reduced light. I've not experienced any problems in tablet mode like some of the earlier reviews mention. The speed is awesome. Chrome OS starts from the moment the tablet is opened and internet access is available almost instantly. I really have no complaints and consider this a really fun device to use and interact with.

The Pixel Slate is truly a wonderful device. The device has a beautiful 12.3" screen with minimal bezels. The tablet is fast and smooth, and also has a great dual front facing speakers. The only reason I am removing one star is the Google Play Store works OKAY on the device. Some apps do not work on the device, which is odd. Hopefully Google will fix this. For example, the Facebook App crashes each time and the YouTube TV app doesn't work on the device (shocking since YouTube TV is owned by Google).

I'm a unique tech consumer: I use both iOS, Android, and Chrome OS for various tasks. But of the three, I really enjoy using Chrome OS for my office work. It was hard to let go of my 2nd gen Pixelbook as it was nearing it's end. I loved the feel of the keys, the padding for your palms (except when they got discolored), and the overall experience. I really wanted a Tablet OS experience but was anxious about the many YouTube reviews out there that really gave strong negative opinions to the Pixel Slate. But the bundle pack at Best Buy was hard to pass over, so I went ahead and purchased the Pixel Slate M3 version which came with the official Keyboard and Pixel Pen. After a month I must say, those online reviewers were wrong about this device and this is my go-to device now. Pros: -Productivity experience. Chrome OS familiar was for me since I've been using the Pixelbook for over 2 years now. With the Slate, I really enjoy the Android touch-based experience when in tablet mode. It's responsive and smooth when using. All of my apps open smoothly without any issues. Utilizing all of my Word programs, Google apps is fast and simple to operate. -Screen: this has a 12.3-in screen and the color and quality is amazingly crisp. The screen is 3000 x 2000-pixel panel, and can get really bright (337nits). My old Pixelbook was 421 nits but I couldn't tell the difference. Also the response to my clicks or finger was fast and smooth. At no time did I feel it was slow or stuttery. -Google Assistant: it's a better experience on the Slate compared to my old Pixelbook. According to Google, the speed is 350% faster on the Slate and I would agree. -Keyboard and pen: the biggest draw for me in purchasing it was that this was included in the bundle for a total of $499! The Slate itself is normally $499 and if you add the Keyboard ($249) and the Pen ($99), it would cost you close to $850! The Keyboard is backlit, and does add weight to the entire device but I love typing on it. The keys are nice and quiet and the travel is excellent. The magnets on the back are strong and secure for any angle. The touchpad is also very accurate. The Pen is also great to use with a very natural feel with hardly any latency. I really enjoyed utilizing the Google Assistant feature in circling multiple faces to see how accurate it would identify them. This is an amazing feature, one I wished Apple and Samsung would incorporate. Cons: -The Keyboard: It's a challenge using this on your lap, as many commentators have pointed out. The design of the Slate/Keyboard duo creates a very large footprint on your lap and desk, something that bothered me with the Surface line devices as well. I wished that the keyboard could be raised flushed with the screen like the Surface Keyboard. -No external microSD slot: The Slate has 2 USB-C ports, and that is all. There are no SD slots, nor a headphone jack (they do provide an adapter for your headphone). It only comes with 64 GB storage but the purpose of Chrome OS is to utilize your cloud networks. I wished there was an option for a microSD card. Overall, I was really impressed with this device. The M3 is really fast and the overall experience is great. Get this device while the bundle sale lasts!

Coming from an HP Chromebook X2. It was the ideal machine for me and it pulled off the 2 in 1 form factor like nothing before it. Webcam on the X2 got “fuzzy” and I needed a webcam because I’m a teacher, and well...remote learning. For about 90% of what I use a computer for, the m3 Slate handles with no problem. I multi-task often, between different conferencing apps, drawing on my screen, and recording short video lessons with the webcam. I love having a USB-C port on either side, great for charging in any setup. Speakers are better than you would expect from a tablet. My bundle came with the pen and Slate Keyboard. Pen input is solid with hardly any delay as you write/scribble. It is great for notes, not sure about any serious art. The design of the keyboard is not as refined as the Surface or Ipad folios. It’s a little wonky and slides around a lot. I found that using the keyboard on my lap is not as bad as some online reviewers make it out to be. It’s not perfect by any means, but very doable. I enjoy typing on it. The keys are nice and responsive (and backlit). It does take some time to get used to manipulating the Slate, but after a while you adjust and it's normal. There’s also no where to store the pen, which is annoying. The main issue I have is the app optimization for Android when in a tablet format. For example, the Zoom app for Android/Chrome, is not as feature rich as it is for Windows. While I can share my screen during Zoom meetings, and draw on the screen, it gets clunky and difficult to manage and see my participants. The m3 really starts to struggle here too. The Slate really heats up and gets glitchy. There’s no virtual background setting for the Android app either. And the i5 wouldn’t make a difference here as it is the app itself that’s holding it back. Other apps like Facebook Messenger do not make use of the 12.3 inch screen properly and just look weird. Many others work just fine. Overall I really enjoy using the Slate and if it wasn’t for the limitations with Zoom, it would be my new daily driver. As I will be heavily leaning on applications like Zoom for the foreseeable future, I’m giving the Surface Pro a try.

I read a bunch of reviews before buying the Slate, and was certainly nervous. After receiving the product and using it as my main laptop, I have zero complaints. Sure - if you're a graphics professional looking for a Wacom experience, it's probably not for you. If you're a pc gamer, this won't compete. But, if you're looking for a good, fast chromebook experience, and would like the ability to sketch and walk around with a (fairly heavy) tablet, this is great. The few android apps I've used were a little laggy, but 99% of what I need to do I can do on this thing. Plus, the screen is beautiful, and the speakers are AWESOME considering the form factor. My happiness with this device also owes to the fact that I got it for roughly $500 - keyboard and pen included. If it weren't for that closeout price, my evaluation would certainly be less favorable.

I got the Slate deeply discounted and I'm very happy with it. The screen is gorgeous and the 3:2 aspect ratio is great. The build quality is solid and the speakers sound pretty good for a tablet. This is my first experience with chrome os and I really like it. I'm not sure I'd recommend this at full price, but if you get it on sale it's a solid device for work or school.

This is a solid tablet with a great screen, speakers and build quality. Beware of early reviews that were either based on the lower level (now discontinued processor chip) and and earlier version of Chrome OS. With the latest updates and the m3 chip in this version , the experience is great. It serves well as an all in one style device, for emails and documents, and is also a great digital comics reader.

I have been into 2-in-1's since the were introduced. The idea of having a laptop one minute and a tablet the next is so cool. I have used and owned various versions of tablet/keyboard combos for years and I was very surprised with the Pixel Slate combo for $499. This includes the Core m3/64GB tablet, the keyboard folio and pen. I have used this in addition to the Microsoft Surface Pro X and Apple iPad Pro 12" 3rd Gen and while the iPad Pro is the fastest this Pixel Slate is the most enjoyable. I believe that a tablet is only as good as the accessories available for it and the Slate is no exception. While the combo comes with a keyboard folio that will allow you to get some work done on the run and adds some protection, the amount of standard folio cases a sparse at best. This makes transporting the Slate a bit more of a risk than say the iPad Pro which has about 50 billion cases and other doodads you can grab nearly anywhere. This tablet may not be for everyone. It runs Chrome OS which has a steep learning curve as compared to iPad OS (but hang in there) so it may turn off the masses. I would not do this review justice if I did not mention the this tablet got terrible reviews when it was first introduced (one reviewer even stated you should buy a banana instead) which led to this great deal I am reviewing. Why am I reviewing such a terrible device? Google put a lot of work into correcting the issues including dropping the models with the processors that caused the problems in the first place. However tech moves way too fast and second chances come far and few between thus Google has gotten out of the tablet business leaving us to wonder what the Slate 2nd Gen could have been. In the meantime for those who need a 2-in-1 to get everyday task done put this on your list. Bonus Note: If you have a ton of typing to do spring for the Brydge G-Type Bluetooth Keyboard.

Great device with an excellent display, very good speakers for a tablet, good battery life, and fast performance. This is a good buy if you get the free keyboard and pen. Otherwise I'd hesitate to purchase those separately. Might be a small learning curve for Apple users

After seeing so many bad reviews I was hesitant to buy the Pixel Slate. There was so much about how laggy and janky the software was. Well, I bought the mid-range model with the M3 and it's worked absolutely perfect for me. I am not using it for super heavy duty work...but I don't know why anyone would...it's a tablet with an M3. For serious work, I'm sure the better processors would be fine. I find the M3 model to definitely be worth the price tag. The screen is amazing, I love ChromeOS. Google really put out a great product.
