This is a great concept, record improved audio while operating on a usb power source. The plug on mine was loose and I recorded endless test videos to discover that it works best while being pressed firmly into the camera throughout recording. Not practical for any use! I'm disappointed but decided to play with different methods of making this one work vs returning it for a new one (my choice,i know). This failure is not an isolated event, do some research, these are more often defective than not. I figured I would just end up with another malfunctioning accessory so i should work it out. No fix yet! My next step is to squeeze the plug gently to snug it up.

We have the GoPro Camera and for recording audio to an external camera, this is what you need.

It probably couldn't be worse; however, it works - most of the time. I have the Hero 5 black and it's a cool camera but boy does it come with some glitchy behavior. I use this adapter with the cheap Rode Micro and it works fine when it does work. I have to turn the camera on without the mic plugged in and not using the record button but the mode button. Then, once it's on, I can plug the mic in. THEN i can start recording. I don't know why but just clicking record to turn the camera on with the mic already plugged in i don't get any sound. Maybe they'll fix it with an update but it's already too late for that when the first time i went to use this it turned out to be an entire video session (one of my band's gigs) completely lost. Can't get that show back. Also, I'm hoping a lot of gadgets start graduating to USB -C ... It's just a better connection. Bottom line - it pretty much works and their's no work around other than using an external recorder which I also use but having the on-camera mic is nice too.

It is a bit bigger than I would like, but it works great and also allows the camera to be charged while in use. Overall only complaint is the size.

The people at GoPro really missed the mark here. This wasn't necessary on previous cameras. Way too bulky and way too expensive. Aside from poor design it does work.

It's a chunky piece of equipment but it works great and does what it needs to.

Only option I'm aware of for the GoPro Hero 5 to use an external mic. Works great!

Enhances audio quality dramatically. But audio from Gopro isn't bad.

For the first four days, I loved this product. It made my GoPro audio flawless. Then, after the fourth day it just stopped working. The GoPro completely ignored the input and used the internal mics on the GoPro. I tried everything to fix it to no avail. I ended up returning my GoPro hero 5 black and the mic adapter. DONT BUY!!

I needed to record while riding. Works first time, every time.

Guys at GoPro completely screwed this one up, First of all, this adopter is huge, it's just audio adopter, come on now, REALLY... USB plug comes lose, you will lose sound without knowing it, BUT WAIT you will find that out half way in to your vacation trip. If you want to use quick record function, good luck, Mic will not start recording, another glitch by Gopro and they wont even tell you that, so keep recording, do your best to discover that hidden surprise by GoPro that they keep is secret.. Sometimes this adopter just dont want to work, no reason, just not working. Over all, GoPro did a number on this, as sad as it sounds but they ruined it for me, I had go pro since GoPro2, but I think it's time to part with it. Good luck

it works great, i just wish i didn't need it, i wish go pro just lets you plug in the mic directly to the camera
