I started playing GH back on the PS2 with Guitar Hero 2. I owned every GH since and RB too. I loved these games and when my PS3 died I was most upset about not having them when I upgraded to the PS4. With that being said, I learned with GH World Tour not to buy them on release day as the controllers are notorious for having problems. I waited a year to buy it which was probably overkill, but the game didn't get great reviews so I knew I could be patient. Funny thing is I sit down with my shiny new game and guitar controller and guess what? You betcha! Controller button stick in and will not pop out! Rather than take it back right away I do what I always do with this game. Take it apart, make sure it's not a quick fix. Watch some YouTube videos on sticky keys and 30 minutes later I am ROCKING! The middle bottom row key had too much white paint on the inside and it needed to be scraped off. I also put some scrap paper along the back of the circuit board giving the rubber spring more to push against.
ANYWAY on with the game. I love the new button format. It tricks my brain after years of having the six keys in one row. Some of the chord shapes also puzzle me as they would never occur on a real guitar. The included songs and "campaign" are fun, but not nearly long enough. The guitar hero TV concept is entertaining and fun to hear new songs. I have an old mic from the old games so that's fun too. But I REALLY miss two things. The first is the drum set. I feel so limited playing the stupid four pad rock band one, but it's fun. The five pad GH world tour was a lot better. It brought a lot more to the game and I really miss it. The second thing is the option for a bass or rhythm guitar track. My friends and I are all there playing the exact same notes. There is no option for a bass line and quite honestly when one of you misses it's very distracting to the other. This is not the way a real band works and it's a loss. The only other thing I don't like is the fact that you can't fail a song. We would try for hours to get all the way through a song to unlock the next level. With this game you can miss every single note and still move on. What video game works like that? Anyway. It's better than nothing, but still far from the great old games.

We enjoy the new version, although we're missing some favorite songs from
The previous GT in PS3, it's still worth it!

This game is great. It would get 5 stars except setting it up is ridiculous. Getting the game to two player mode was relentlessly confusing and time consuming. Other than that its an awesome game. I love that you can play popular songs on the other mode.

I have never played guitar hero before, picked up this on sale, big deciding factor was the extra controller guitar. Played this with my friends and we had a blast. The live video shots with actual singers and bands were amazing. It was pretty easy to learn how to play the guitar, granted I was on the easiest setting. Also love the songs and playlists that come with the game. This is now one of my all-time favorite games.

Awesome game. Guitars are really cool looking, and the new keys are so much more fun than the old ones. It feels much more like a real guitar. I love it so far!
The problem is when you play the game with 2 players only player 1 can sign in. So player 2 is always guest and progress isn't tracked. It's a sad oversight as I don't know any other game that works that way. I hoped that since it was released a while ago they would have changed it by now, but I couldn't find any way to have player 2's progress tracked. Also, the career can only be played 1 player. The career is pretty short though so I don't think it matters that much. I'd give the game 5 stars if it didn't have these problems.
I feel that the player 2 sign in is a more minor flaw. I'd still highly recommend this game for anyone who's ever liked guitar hero in the past.

The game is a lot of fun. A little more difficult than the previous version which was color coded. Still trying to figure out how to activate the 2nd guitar. No instructions on how to do that

The guitars don't always synch properly and on occasion don't work at all. You have to reset the game completely which also causes you to lose any progress you have made thus far. On the other side however this game is fun and addicting. The graphics are astonishing, and the sound is crisp and clear.

This game brings back the nostalgia from my guitar hero 1 days . The guitar is a completely new guitar . For the first time in guitar hero I was not able to start on a hard level. I had to start on easy to get my fingers used to the guitar. That was a great feeling. The only real complaints I have is the music in the story mode. There a some good songs on the set lists, but a lot of them are also play once and never play again. I've noticed I spend most of my time on guitar hero tv. Which is an online playlist channels. You play song set on random is a pve pvp type thing. You earn coin from this to buy play money. With this you can go on a playlist where you can hand pick a song to play once . My problem with this is most of the time you won't be playing the story mode and you will be playing random songs just to earn enough coin to play a song you like. Some might like it I'm just "ok" with it .

This was a gift for our youngest son, who loved this on the Wii. Dad had more of a challenging time figuring out this different guitar, but our son did great and loved it. It's getting lots of use. Great purchase!

So as my title says I believe that this is a great purchase if you are a fan of previous Guitar Hero games. The game has different controls then the previous games by having 3 upper and 3 lower buttons on the fret board rather than the 5 in a row. It makes for a learning curve from previous installments but once you get the hang of it its wonderful! The game itself has great graphics and unique features. The campaign features a live audience video rather than the previous animated audiences. It is an awesome new feature but nothing amazing. Guitar Hero Live is also a new feature of the game. It is a constantly streaming "TV" channel that shows different genre's of music on a 24h loop. At any moment you can jump in and play along and earn credits from playing. You can use these credits to upgrade your nameplate, fret boards, and other pretty basic personalization features. One of the biggest negatives of this game to me is the whole buying songs. You can only buy songs as a one time use from the Guitar Hero store. You can buy these either using the credits earned from playing or paying real money. All just to rent the song for a one time use. The "Supreme Party Edition" does come with credits right off the bat so that is nice. Still though, the point being that you can't just buy the songs permanently is annoying.
Overall:
PROS
Graphics
Sound Design
Updated controller
Guitar Hero Live
CONS
Limited Use Songs
Having to buy credits or play a ton to earn them
Cannot play the campaign with two people (Only solo)
Most of the songs included in the base game aren't very great.. I mean Skrillex and Katy Perry?

Game play was good, a little more complicated to get going when compared to the old school GH, but once you get through the "mandatory" short tutorials, playing is good.
The video recording makes me and my GF dizzy if we look at it while we're not actually playing.
Overall another great game!

Activision has done it again. Another hit in the G.H. franchise. It's been a few years since a GH game had been released and it was a nice break. But with this new version, there are so many more elements to the game that add to the replayability. For starters, the guitar itself feels and handles more like a real guitar in terms of hitting the notes. Gone are the simple 4 buttons straight across. Now there are 2 rows of 3 making it even more challenging but fun once you get the hang of it. And like previous installments, you can adjust the game difficulty allowing players the time to adjust to the new guitar. Next, there are a ton of songs on this game to choose from and they're all categorized by era. Hair rock, metal, indie, pop, etc. The live element provides a real sense of being on stage. When you play poorly, the crowd and the band will let you know. This is one of the biggest improvements to me. Instead of having to restart the song or pick an entirely new one just because you can't keep up or hit the right notes, the game gives you the opportunity to get it together and get back on track enabling you to win back the crowd and band mates. I love this game. Great for social gatherings at home or rockin out by yourself for hours on end. So many great songs that range from the most well known to the obscure and I love them all.
