So you want to tackle your taxes this year on your own, do you? You are ready to accept the challenge in fulfilling your civic duty and be the responsible adult your parents raised you to be by choosing and filing with the right program, however, with the many options out there your stuck in deciding which one, right? Th H&R Self Employed and Rental program is a very well designed and user friendly tool in getting that task done right the first time, but only if you know what you are doing or have the time to learn. They loaded the program with so much features, that at sometimes I needed to step aside from doing my taxes cause I found myself deeply engrossed in exploring their links. My spouse began wondering what I was working on all day one day by asking me, "what are you working on", I would reply, "our taxes", and then she will ask, "still?", as if I was wasting my time doing the right thing for us. So the experience was humbling yet rewarding as I did learn a lot. Give it up to a huge corporation in creating and developing a well written tax accounting software program and a service platform model for all your filing needs but then realizing that you might have gone over your own head while attempting to interpret the information provided in their learning boxes. If you don't know the answer for a question, you will have to pay and additional $29.99 fee to have unlimited support for your questions. This is where I wish they had a live feed help feature. Not a major drawback of course, if again, you know what you are doing. But if you don't know what you are doing or don't have the time to learn, then maybe sticking with other tax service programs out their would be a better fit for all those tax preparing novices out there. That said, this is truly the mot affordable and reliable program for those who are the bee's knees in accounting or have filed taxes on their own before. In the end, since affordability is not always the best method in evaluating which tax program to use, and the fact that my time management skills have not been the best of late, I opted for familiarity and simple "layman" way of explaining taxes with our current existing software tax provider. I guess it's hard to teach a dog new tricks, even with all the treats.

If you need to do taxes and need software to help this works fine. Installation is simple and didn't have any problems. Once installed and updated I could point it to my last taxes from a different software company and it imported it in without issues. The format is simple and worked fine. I had no problems following the questions and providing the information. Honestly seems to work perfectly fine and handled my tax needs without issue, and the numbers it produced seemed spot on. I was very happy with this experience and have no problem using this software in future.

This program is hard to make changes. When changing information on forms you find out at the end during the review you have multiple duplicate forms. There is no way to know what forms you need to delete and the 1 you need to keep. Waste a lot of time, the programs is not as easy to use as the online H&R Block tax software,

I usually use Intuit TurboTax for filing my taxes and I have been using it for years but I thought I would give H&R Block a go this year. I bought both this year just so I can find out which is better for me. I would say that the interview process is just as informative and just as confusing at the same time on both programs but I think H&R Block went into more in-depth detail. For myself who is not tax savvy, its a difference between being confused or more or less confused. Finding the answer to my basic questions was very simple and I think I even learned a thing or two about taxes. W-2s can be imported directly from your employer if their payroll provider works with H&R Block. You can upload a PDF version. Unless you already have a PDF version of your W-2, you might as well just enter the W-2 manually because you have to scan it, then import it and then double check the imported data. Another option is taking a picture of your W-2 with your smartphone. Taking a picture of your W-2 is a bit faster but you still have to double check the data that is imported. Then there’s the option of entering information the good ol’ fashioned way, manually. Typos happens when entering it manually so having those features can be helpful. TurboTax does not have the PDF or picture option. You can also import your financial data from Quicken, Microsoft Money or other financial software that uses Tax Exchange Format (TXF). The H&R Block user interface is better than TurboTax in my opinion. It has a FAQ section on the left side and the content changes information relevant to the section that you are working on. I also like the “Take Me To” feature which gives you a list of all the different sections and pages. So let’s say you want to work on the Deduction section and enter a Charitable Donation. All you have to do is find that on the easy to read list and double click it and you are there. Working on forms is easy with Forms Central and it even gives you a pop-up calculator. Both programs offer password protection on your saved tax file. TurboTax adds encryption but I didn’t see that feature with H&R Block. Overall, H&R Block Tax software was easier for me but I don’t have a complicated tax situation. Just a homeowner with children. I will use H&R Block again. I will most likely use H&R Block in the future.

H&R Block has been my go to for tax software for 10+ years now. Using the digital version this time was just as easy as the disc version that I normally used. From the start to finish it walks you through everything you need to do your taxes. It makes importing all your previous tax information a breeze. Price and ease of use are the reasons why I’ve stuck with H&R Block for over 10 years.

    Taxes made simple

For the last couple of years, I have been using TurboTax online to do my taxes. It has served his purpose well until last year I had to pay extra due to 1099 forms. I was caught off guard on paying around $140 just cause of the 1099 forms. This time I decided to use the software version of H&R Block since the deluxe version supports 1099 forms. Importing my last year's tax information was done by just dragging the PDF to it. The software did a good job of extracting all the information from the PDF. You will still have to verify the information before it will let you proceed. If your job uses ADP you can import your current W2’s by just verifying some information. I must say that I prefer the way H&R Block walks you through the process it’s much more hands-on and made it easier to claim every deduction that was available to me. I’m not a tax expert so I know last year there were a lot of deductions I missed since my tax info was very similar to last year. With my current tax filling the deductions that I was able to take advantage of thanks to H&R Block made a huge difference on my tax bill. Overall I definitely recommend going with the software version if your tax filling includes additional forms besides W2. There are different versions available to suit your tax needs. Going forward I will be sticking with H&R Block for my future fillings.

Every year, I dutifully purchase my copy of H&R Block Premium, so that I can file using income from my job and self-employment activities. Every year, it pulls the information from the previous year right into the software, pre-filling dozens of what would be annually redundant entries were it not for this feature. Simply put, the H&R software just works, guiding you step by step through the process of filling out forms. The Premium Software makes it easy to tally and record all the necessary parts of filing Schedule C, and the refund estimate allows you to see how all your expenses and income will affect your bottom line. One thing I really enjoy doing with the software is designing a year-end IRA contribution that will maximize my benefit. You can change what you might contribute and use the estimated refund (or estimated tax bill) to see how your contribution will change what you get back or owe. I've never had the need to use the Audit defense features, but it's nice to know they're there. All-in-all, I will probably never stop using H&R Block tax prep software, unless it gets wildly more expensive or the government figures out a way to allow free e-filing that's as comprehensive. Let's face it: that probably isn't happening.

This really is a great option for filing your federal and state income taxes. I’ve used several tax preparation softwares and this might be my favorite yet, especially for the price. If you haven’t used this software before, loading your prior year file into the software is incredibly easy and it populated all of the general information for you from your previous return. This made switching software so painless. The guided steps were just as good if not better than any of the other software I’ve used. The option to load PDFs of my W2 information made filling everything out way easier. The software walks you through every common deduction and credit to get you a good return. There’s also an option to talk with a tax specialist if you need that too. Overall, this is a great option to quickly and easily do your taxes.

I've flip-flopped between H&R Block and TurboTax over the years. I've been happy with both, but this year I went with H&R Block. I have a fairly standard tax situation and from install to filing took a little over an hour. The software works well and the step-by-step instructions are easy to understand. In the steps I wasn't 100% sure about I was able to find the explanations I needed to make a decision very quickly. The only issue I had was with the W-2 mobile upload; a few of the values on my forms ended up in the wrong boxes and I had to go back and correct them - it was still more convenient overall than entering them manually, but I would definitely recommend reviewing the uploaded information thoroughly. Fortunately, the software notified me of the mistake before I got to the filing phase.

This tax software is a download program which is very intuitive to use. You have the ability to enter information manually, upload pdfs, or take pictures of many different tax documents you will use to prepare the tax return. I found that the PDF conversion was to very accurate and just entered the information myself after the first snafu with uploading a PDF of my w2 form. The program does all the calculations for you all you have to do is answer the questions and input the information that it asks you for. The help section could be quite a bit more complete and thorough. I felt that this was more secure and safer than those online programs that you can buy. The drawback is that you have to do your taxes on one computer but that is probably not an issue for most folks.

H&R Block 2019 looks, feels and behaves just like H&R Block 18, 17, and 16 before it... Not much has changed in UI or features since the change from the TaxCut overhaul but the feature set hasn't changed much since then. The functionality is all I really want in a tax solution. I do some side contracting, my wife is an independent contractor, and I have a day job that issues regular payroll and witholding so having the deduction questionnaires for investments, business expenses, etc are really helpful. The interface is aging bit intuitive enough. It's a "just works" or "dont mess with it" philosophy that seems to drive our friends at Block. It's working so why change it?

I filed my son's income tax return with this software, and have no complaints. He filed last year using TurboTax online, and the H&R Block software was able to use the downloaded data file from TurboTax to populate the 2019 return. We had not saved that data file, but were able to log back in to his TurboTax online account and download from there. This is an important feature and worked seamlessly and flawlessly. The only information I had to add was to update the various boxes on his 2019 W-2. It took almost no time to complete the return and easily file both his federal and state returns online.

I have been using H&R Block for quite some years now. Normally via the online portal and then subsequently paying for the service(s) version I want or need. I was afforded the premium version to test out and could not be more pleased. I have not completely filed my taxes yet, but I have run through the software. I think feeling completely confident in the return when doing it yourself is important. In my experience H&R Block understands this and has made their program to allow for ease of use, a user-friendly session, and provide knowledge to the mind-boggling tax world.

This was my first time filing with H&R software. I have used Turbotax in previous years but it was super easy to import my previous TurboTax return, so it auto-filled a lot of the info for me. It was very basic and easy to navigate. I was able to go in depth to get all the write-offs I was eligible for. Just to compare, I inputted all the same info in Turbotax and actually received a slightly higher return using H&R (about $100 difference) Makes me wonder if I was losing out on money all along over the years. I'll stick with H&R from here on out. Highly recommend.

Taxes are NOT scary thanks to H&R Block. The program is simple to download, and filing your taxes is easy. The step-by-step process is great and throughout the entire process H&R Block explains each form you need and where to fill in each box. Even if you are not sure about a certain piece of information there are help prompts and ways to contact H&R Block tax professionals directly. Instead of spending hours at a firm, I spent less than 30 minutes filing my own taxes. This software is a MUST HAVE for anyone looking to file their own taxes.

This software is something that has to actually be downloaded onto your computer, works offline until needed, which is a nice feature but that's where it stopped for me. The layout is pretty basic, same format as other self-prepare tax software, except I actually felt like it wasn't quite as easy as other ones I've used in the past. While it said I could drop my previous years taxes into it and it would pull data from that, it didn't work so I manually entered everything. It came up with the same amount of refund as I got thru another preparer, so that was right. When it came time to actually e-file I did have to pay to send state. I received a message that my files had transmitted but then the next day got an email that my federal return had been rejected. There was a code provided, so I called their customer service team, after a 10 minute hold, I had to provide my personal information to two different reps before they put me on hold again to find out what the code meant. I tried googling it but it came back with nothing. When they got back to me they still were not sure what the rejection code meant. I have never had a problem with any other company's tax service. This was frustrating. I gave up and filed with another company, without any complication and have received confirmation that my files were accepted. It was easy to use, and the refund amount was correct so I have given it 2 stars.

I’ve used TurboTax for many years now and this year I got a chance to try out H&R Block tax software. First off the program was very easy to download and install. This software is a lot like its competitor in terms of how it looks. Pretty easy to use, anybody can do their own taxes, it could be a little scary at first but it’s not that complicated, The software walks you step-by-step through everything if you’re a beginner or lets you work on whatever you want to work on if you’re a little more advanced.
