These things have managed to blow me away. I know its not the best speaker out there, but for all the research i have done, these are still the best bang for buck, literally and figuratively. The bass these produce is quite staggering for the size, and with my apartment and the walls the sound resonates and creates a good vibration in the room, like its an actual sub. I have the Sony XB-31, and the XB-41, both with the lights, and i have been overall satisfied for a while with those. Sound great, but with these i have come to the realization that with the Sony, you are paying more for the all around experience of the speaker, and not just the sound quality. This I got on sale for 109, and the other one I ordered because I wanted the blue one. And as soon as I got the first one, it was almost a no brain decision to get another one for travels, and the pairing together to make that "stereo" sound. (Onyx Studio 4-2 tweeters, and 2 "subs") Onyx 5-1 bigger sub, and a single tweeter. None the less still amazing. I have not owned the 4, but videos on you tube should suffice to explain the difference in detail. There are some minor setbacks, but mostly nit picky things such as, no accurate indication for battery level, battery life (Spoiled by the XB-41 amazing battery life in my experience, 7 months) and the slight reduction on power output when not plugged into the wall (Understandable from an engineering, and design standpoint though). But overall, super premium feel, no cop out on materials, and the handle design has grown on me. The studio 6 is out now, with an water certification, not much content out yet, but from what I see, not much different, and sound is not as great. Strictly comparison speaking, because no matter what they still sound amazing, just doing in depth homework. I don't plan to use these as the throw everywhere, water, mountain adventure speakers, so the water should be fine without. These are worth the price. I would say.., there worth 200 if not more, most speakers in the class were looking at at those price points barely stack up. Still good, but just suited to different listeners/environments. Overall amazing, and I think unless your super picky about it, or over audiophile about everything and expect these to match home theater, and crazy headphone setups you will thoroughly enjoy them. I myself am not a scientist about it, but to average; a very picky chooser on sound quality. These satisfy with ease with little drawback. Not worth enough to mention though because nothing is perfect, and for what you get... Man, just try it yourself.

I absolutely love this speaker,I upgraded from a onyx 3 because my kids dropped it and a leg came off (still work perfectly by the way) it has the perfect amount of bass and it gets pretty loud. I love Harmon Kardon products! No complaints at all.

I own and use daily the original Harman/Kardon Onyx speaker i purchased in 2014 (6 years now) the battery is still going strong but id estimate its at about 75-80% so when i take it to the beach we get about 2.5 hours of MAX VOLUME. I can push that to about 3.5-4 hours with about half volume. Well the point is i enjoy long days at the beach here in FL so i picked up the new Onyx 5 for those long outside days. I’ll use the Onyx original while i work cleaning or when we have people over. Also the JBL clip is very important for kayak days.

This is the party machine without power it lasts longer then previous models . I always keep the power cord this speaker lasts about 2 to 3 hours if turned up all the way . For the price and size of unit you can’t beat it!

I purchased the Onyx Studio 4 a few months ago and was impressed with its reproduction of sound, and the immersive bass from the relatively small package. Also I loved the unique design of the Onyx 4. So, when I saw the Onyx 5 onsale during black friday, I chose it amogst the many other great speakers on sale. I believe it has better sound reproduction than any JBL, Bose, or Sony, or Marshall, I have not compared it to the higher end stuff like B&O, but for the money, this speaker cannot be matched. Everyone I let listen to the Onyx 4 was very impressed with the speaker, so when I told my friend I bought the Onyx 5 he couldnt wait, and opened up the speaker and started playing music on it before I could stop him. We played music for roughly 30min before the battery indicator started blinking, so I hooked up the charger, and wr let it charge for 20-30min. My friend carried the speaker around with him the rest of the night, streaming one song after another. After a short charge l, the speaker played continuously for 5+hours. I think the bass it is a little more on the Onyx 4, but the Onyx 5 has more of a room filling 360° effect. The Onyx 5 is a smaller speaker, but considerably heavier, and is shaped like a lunch pale, and is much more of a portable speaker than the Onyx 4 is, but doesnt have the IPXX ratings like a similarly priced JBL. I am considering getting a couple more to give as xmas gifts.

This has now become my new favorite gadgets at home. The instruction manual was pretty basic, but it wasn't hard to pair my phone and the speaker via bluetooth. A single charge supposedly can last 8-10 hours or so, and my experience has been probably 5-6 hours/charge. The speakers feels very solid and well-made (instead of light-weight and made of cheap plastic) with sound that fills up an apartment room easily. it is small and light enough to be easily transportable to different places. I do wish the bass level is adjustable, since as it is now, it is quite strong, and may not be good when you're playing music later at night with neighbors around.

The speaker is a little funny looking, but it sure sounds great! My husband teases me that it looks like my purse. I love that it has a handle since I tend to carry it with me around the house and outside to the pool. The sound is clear and crisp and can get pretty loud for such a small speaker. It also hold a charge for several hours of continuous use. All in all this is a great buy!

Excellent speakers that pair up if you buy two of them. Sound quality is great and battery life is amazing. We love how portable it is, and not overly heavy. It has a pretty unique design and set up takes less than 10 mins, no complaints

The sound is TERRIFIC. The base is solid and not hollow. If you are looking for sound quality, this is it. If you are looking for a Internet do-it-all speaker, this is not it. It is kind of heavy and bid, so definitely not something to carry around as your are walking or hiking. I wish it had a remote control or a 3rd power setting, instead of just on/off, where the speaker will go to sleep, but turn back on once the Bluetooth connected device emits sound again. Buttons have rubber symbols to avoid wearing out the fabric on the top. This speaker does not have a microphone, so you can't speak to it for commands or take a call, but if you looking for a great sounding speaker, this is it. Also, it does not seem to have any firmware updates. There is a slight delay in vocals from watching a video, but you will get over it.

I can not be happier with this speaker. The quality of sound is amazing. It really sounds like you are listening to a much larger, full sized speaker system. We have owned many portable speakers in this price range and none have come close to producing the crystal clear range of sound that this speaker produces. No longer do we have to listen to a “tin can” on the go. We now have deep rich bass, crystal clear vocals, and a high end to compliment it all. Easy connection and great battery life. Do yourself a favor and get one.

So far this is one of the BEST bluetooth speakers i have ever bought!! The sound is amazing, the bass is deep and rumbly and its very portable and easy to use! I think full blast and this thing would show as a 1.2 magnitude earthquake! If youre thinking about buying it and are being hesitant about it because of the price, just do it, buy it, dont even think twice, itll make your bose speakers sound like dollar store speakers!

No other Bluetooth speaker in this size can muster up the rumble low end bass that these achieve. These hits LOW. In addition, the mid vocals is full bodied, and the highs has nice clarity, without the sibilant harshness you hear from other Bluetooth speakers. Only downside is it is mono, and night stereo. If you want stereo sound, there's the Onyx studio 4, with trade-off is slightly less bass low response. Bottom line, these crushes the Bose revolve plus, JBL Xtreme & boombox, and ue megaboom.

Crisp sound. Based on reviews I knew it was a good bass speaker, hearing it I definitely agree. Now it sounds like we have music playing and not just noise in the background. At the time of purchase it was too cheap to pass up.... Best Buy has a good way of inflating the retail price so you feel as if you’re getting a better deal than you actually are. But that’s what “sales” are I guess. Still happy with the speaker. Was shocked at the weight/feel/quality.

Superb sound good priceFor such a compact machine it really does a good job it has extremely deep bass it is best to use with a program that allows you to adjust the bass or has a built-in equalizer if you’re using simply a music program such as Apple play or Spotify etc. without travel or bass control the base is extremely deep and an apartment it will disturb your neighbors it is that good and that Rich

I bought this because of Deal of the Day sale ato 109usd and great reviews. I like the handle. Blue-Gold looks the best. Black version at Bowie, MD display model sounded great in the store. Deep bass. A little heavy though.
