I bought and installed this, and tried it out for 2 weeks, then ended up going with a competitor. I Really wanted this to work well, but it had 3 strikes with 2 that that I couldn't live with. The 1st problem is the vertical layout makes wall repair almost a sure thing when placing it in the same spot as the older more horizontal thermostats. The 2nd is there is no instant readout of your daily usage, you have to wait till the next day to get those numbers. The biggest problem, by far, was the room sensor reading was not displaying correctly on the thermostat. The thermostat operated properly, but when only utilizing the room sensor for operation, the thermostat would display different readings than it would show for room sensor.
On the plus side, I did love the display and ease of use, As well as the room sensor requiring only 2 AA batteries.

This is nice unit especially if your house has a hallway thermostat with little ventilation. Our ac doesn’t run nearly as much as it did. So thankful I got one and easy to install and setup.

We purchased this thermostat to replace our three year old Lennox thermostat that came with our newly installed Lennox HVAC system. The Honeywell thermostat is much easier to program and use and has worked well with our wifi.

This is my third Honeywell Wi-Fi capable thermostat, dating back several years. All have performed extremely well and are well designed. The T9 is a brilliant evolution of the Honeywell series.
The drop-down menus are well laid out and understandable, an impressive improvement in the T9 system. Configuring personal preferences, system priorities, scheduling, device sensors, Wi-Fi, and beyond are easily accessible and intuitive. You can even see the future forecast for your area in the menu. Kudos Honeywell.
Installation and setup from basics to Wi-Fi worked flawlessly, simple and smooth. Like that.
The new T9 model changes the shape of Honeywell Smart Thermostats in more ways than one, first the shape has a new face lift. Rather than being a horizontal unit the T9 is vertically shaped, which makes sense when using the touch screen interface and scrolling through menus. Like the aesthetics, looks nice on the wall.
Love the new sensors and the ability to mange your whole home from sensors throughout the home. The sensor system can detect which rooms are being used and throughout the day will adjust the climate control to operate more efficiently. Like the ability to select a priority room for climate management and have the temp and humidity read out on the thermostat screen.
Myriad of ways to control and monitor the system from the phone/tablet app or your PC as well as integrating with either Alexa, Google Home, Cortana, and more. The T9 uses Geofencing, which in a nutshell means it knows when you are coming and going by monitoring your phone and can adjust your system automatically.
Additional features that stand out:
- Does not require a C-Wire.
- Includes Wi-Fi 5 GHz.
- Indoor humidity sensing.
- Honeywell usage reports.
The T9 is by far the best designed and engineered thermostat that I have ever used, Honeywell hit a home-run with the T9.

Honeywell T9
I have been looking at these types of thermostats for a long time. The one thing that has held me back is the need for a C-wire. As my current thermostat connection only uses a green (G), yellow (Y), red (R) and white (W) wire, I was fairly confident there was no C-wire connection. Running a new wire from my furnace control panel to my current thermostat in the second floor hallway was not a task I wanted to take on. This Honeywell T9 thermostat was advertised as no C-wire needed. I am happy to say THIS IS TRUE.
Unboxing: The components come packaged well. You receive the thermostat and back-plate, room sensor with a device to attach it to the wall, and the C-wire conversion kit. There are instructions for installing the thermostat, room sensor and the C-wire conversion. They are written very clearly and easy to follow.
Installing: You must turn off the power to your furnace and air conditioner while wiring the thermostat. As I was not 100% sure if I did in fact have a C-wire and it was not being used, the first thing I did was remove my current thermostat and check the wiring. A ray of hope came upon me as the instructions say to look for an unused wire and I had an unused blue (B) wire. So I wanted to run a test and connected the G, R, Y, W and B wires per the instructions. The thermostat did not turn on to the welcome screen. I checked the wiring and found a blue wire connected to the Y on my furnace. Tracing the wires back I found the installer had changed from a 5 wire to a 4 wire and connected the Y to the B. I then installed the C-wire conversion kit. This was easy and took maybe 10 minutes. It is very nice having the wire insulation cut on the conversion kit so you do not need a wire stripper. Turn it on and still no power to the thermostat. Unfortunately I did not read the instructions clearly enough I guess. I still had the original connections to the thermostat back-plate. After using the C-wire conversion kit, I needed to remove the B wire – change the connection of the G to the C connection – change the Y to the K connection. After completing this simple change, I turn the power back on the welcome screen is displayed. SUCCESS!!! Install the Honeywell Home app on my Android phone and complete the installation. I connected the provided room sensor and placed this in my main floor living room.
Using: You have two options for using the smart thermostat: schedule and geofencing. I was most interested in the geofencing. For this option all you do is set three things: 1) the heat or cool temperature when you are home; 2) the sleep time and heat/cool temperature; and, 3) the away heat and cool temperature. For each of these you also set the room priority and fan setting. This works really well! There is one thing to be aware of that impacts me and likely very few people. The radius for the geofencing is 500m. One of us works less than 500m from the house. So it does not determine we are away when at work. This is the minimum setting. I wish I could set it to 300m. It would then work perfectly!
Using a schedule is similar to what you may be used to. The one difference is you can also set specific days. One thing I did not like about my old thermostat was there was a weekday and weekend schedule. Well Friday and Saturday night are the same for me but Friday is on a weekday schedule and Saturday on a weekend schedule. Similar issue for Sunday night as this is on a weekend schedule and is the same as Monday for me. The scheduling is very flexible and you can set each day, or group days, any way you desire.
Conclusion: I give this Honeywell T9 thermostat 5 stars. It can be installed with on C-wire. You have flexible geofencing or scheduling options. It includes a room sensor for another location. The Honeywell Home app is intuitive and easy to use so you can control it from anywhere using your phone.

I received the Honeywell T9 at no cost for an honest review so here it goes:
Having previously owned 3 other Honeywell models, I was very pleased with the ease of installation of the T-9. Their instructions are some of the easiest to follow that I've seen in a thermostat. No longer do you really need to call your electrician, as this thermostat is really designed with the home user in mind from start to finish.
With that said, I have installed other thermostats before so installing this one, especially having removed another Honeywell, took me just about 10-15 minutes.
The most frustrating part was the app setup. So with this thermostat, Honeywell uses their "Honeywell Home" app, whereas I was previously using "Total Connect Comfort" app (incompatible with the T-9). I had to create a new account and pair it with the thermostat. Though I've set up previous Honeywell thermostats before, this one took me a good 25-30 mins just to get it to pair correctly. Once it did, it kept intermittently disconnecting. I have a Samsung Galaxy S9+ and I was following instructions as given on the thermostat screen.
After 20 mins or so, I decided to call Honeywell's Tech Support, and they suggested that in addition to Airplane mode, I disable cellular data since some Android phones tend to have connectivity issues. Well, this solved the problem so I was happy with that. The final step of the thermostat registering took like 3-4 minutes, so if you think the thermostat is frozen, it's not, it just takes a bit. This is the reason I took off 1 star. If they can update their thermostat instructions or their support manual, you can avoid this headache since this is designed to work with all smart phones.
One really nice feature, was when connecting to your home's wifi, the thermostat provides you with an on-screen keyboard. I found this to be very helpful as I haven't seen it before on a thermostat. The screen is a bit small so I do wish it was bigger, but for what it does, it serves its purpose.
As far as new features on this one, it does come with a separate temperature sensor that you can place anywhere in the house, and run the thermostat based off that room's temperature. It also has adaptive technology that enables the thermostat to intelligently learn how to best warm up or cool the home down using certain ventilation patterns (the way I understood it).
It does work with many different smart home devices including alexa, google assistant, cortana, samsung smartthings, apple homekit and the list keeps growing.
Once all was said and installed, the thermostat is very simple to use, very intuitive, and sleek-looking. I do recommend it, and if you run into any kind of trouble with setup, Honeywell and Resideo will be glad to help you.

Comfort Is A Touch Away

My previous programmable thermostat was a nightmare to use. The readout was confusing, programming it was agitating, it seemed to only work when it wanted to and it needed batteries to function which was the frosting of annoyance. I was in need of a new thermostat that would afford me the luxury of programming it to what I desired. The Honeywell Home T9 Thermostat has exceeded my expectations while introducing me to features that I didn’t know that I wanted.
Setting up the T9 is relatively easy for as long as you are aware of what your current wire setup is for your existing thermostat. Having an existing C-wire will definitely expedite the setup. The T9 does come with a C-wire adaptor but the installation will require a couple of extra steps but there’s no reason to feel overwhelmed because Honeywell has a fantastic YouTube video that will walk you through the installation.
Once installed, setting up the T9 was as easy as using a smartphone. The touch screen display on the thermostat is CLEAR and RESPONSIVE. The touchscreen didn’t ‘misread’ what I was pressing, and the function readout is sharp. The T9 is accurate with your interactions.
What’s exciting about the T9 is that it comes with a room sensor. This sensor allows you to focus on a specific room when it comes to the temp. For example; you might have the thermostat in a hallway but that hallway temp is a far different temp from your bedroom or entertainment room which means you have to compensate temp degrees. By putting that T9 sensor in the other room, you can now tell the thermostat to keep that room at the desired temperature that you want without having the thermostat taking precedent over the desired temp that you want in the said room. The T9 allows you to add several more sensors to other rooms of your home if you want to. The sensor will also detect if there are additional people in the room or home and adjust the temperature flow to what it senses. It’s pretty impressive.
The T9 offers me the ability to set the temperature for specific times of the day. You might yearn for an average temp while you sleep but you want to wake up to a warmer or cooler temp, you can program the T9 to activate at a different temperature. The options of programming the T9 are plentiful and I’m sure that I haven’t discovered them all at this point. There’s even a password option in case you don’t want anyone else adjusting the temperature that you have set.
And then there’s the luxury of remote options with the T9. We’ve all been in those moments where we are suddenly too hot or cold but don’t want to make the effort to get up and change the thermostat temp. I can either use the Honeywell Home app to change the temperature without getting up or I can order Google Assistant to change the temperature while keeping my laziness intact. The T9 is also compatible with Alexa. I can change the home temperature via the Home app when I am not at home. And yes, you can even turn off the thermostat from the app. I think this will afford a lot of people the peace of mind when the weather suddenly becomes unexpected. I’m anxious to see how much money I will be saving here on out because of the temperature balance feature of the T9.
I honestly believe that the Honeywell Home T9 is a needed investment in comfort and savings.

Straightforward Thermostat with some smarts

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
The Honeywell T9 is the latest Honeywell smart thermostat to hit the market. It also comes with one remote sensor to get temperature, humidity, and motion information from another room in the house. Additional sensors are sold separately that allow for multiple rooms to be monitored.
First of all, installing a thermostat is not as straightforward as other smart home projects can be. In my case, with a home that was built fairly recently, it was straightforward enough, but older homes or those with more complex wiring may find that it is a bit daunting. I would highly recommend checking your existing thermostat for a “C” wire, if you don’t have one, it is going to involve using the included C wire adapter to get it working. Installation will involve powering off your HVAC system, removing the old thermostat being sure to map which wire went where, potentially stripping wires back a little, pushing the wires into the new mount, attaching the mount to the wall, pushing the thermostat on to the mount, and powering everything back on. And probably painting and patching your wall where the old one was.
The thermostat has an understated design that will fit into most homes. The flange means that it looks like it comes out organically from the wall, instead of sitting like a wall wart that just comes straight out of the wall.
After getting it on the wall and powered up, it will run through a setup wizard and get connected to your WiFi. Surprisingly, it supports 2.4 and 5ghz wireless, which is welcome if you have a lot of interference. For me, I am using 2.4 for most of my utility devices as the better coverage from 2.4 is more important to me. Be sure to install the app and create an account. The app will find and register the thermostat, and you are ready to go! At this point you can pair the included sensor, or wait for another time.
If you have an existing Honeywell thermostat, you are going to feel right at home. All of the options that Honeywells have had for years are right there and the learning curve is almost zero. Using the app or the thermostat, you can set modes and schedules, fan options, and room priority. The touchscreen is responsive enough, but I found the viewing angles to be odd on the display. Looking down at it causes the screen to wash out, and since many thermostats are below eye level, it means leaning down to really get the best view of the display while using it.
As for the “smarts”, this thermostat is what I would consider semi-smart. It can use geofencing if you trust that kind of thing and can be connected to Alexa or Google assistant. There is no integration for Apple HomeKit or Siri as of the time of this review, although it may come later. It has remote sensors that can prioritize rooms or give priority to active rooms, and there are a lot of schedule options. Beyond that…it doesn’t do much. You can’t see how often your HVAC was running or get recommendations to make your home more efficient. I would like it to track when the system was running, so I can see that maybe if I adjusted the temperature a little during the times it is running the most I can make my home more efficient, but it doesn’t seem to have that feature.
One thing that you may like, or hate, is that unlike Nest, this thermostat isn’t acting as a remote information gathering sensor for Google. If you are completely into the Google ecosystem this may not bother you, but if you are more of a skeptic, this may be a big advantage to the Honeywell. Additionally, it comes from a company that has been making sensors and controls for years, so it is likely to be a reliable device that will serve for a long time.
Overall, the Honeywell T9 is a decent smart thermostat that has a very low learning curve. Keep in mind that installing it will be a little more involved than most smart home devices, but when done you will have more control over your home HVAC system from home or afar. If Honeywell added some features to track system usage so you can make more educated decisions on your system schedule and see the impact of changes, it would be an excellent device, and I hope those features are added in the future.

This is my first wi-fi / smart thermostat. After some challenges with getting it fully installed and operational, I am very pleased with its functionality and features.
Due to the way my system is setup, I did have to utilize the C-wire adapter and that is where I was originally snagged. A 10 minute call to the customer service number to clear up where one of the wires needed to connect and I was back on track.
Once I had the wiring setup at the furnace, I started the work on the wall and wiring for the thermostat. This was very easy due to the way Honeywell has setup their T adapter. All of the wires were labeled based on the instructions and I was able to put everything in place very quickly.
I ran into a snag based on how the previous box was mounted and I now have a little work to do in order to make it look nice but that is for another day. (See picture)
Once everything was in place, I turned the power back on and everything came up very easily. I configured wi-fi after downloading the Honeywell Home app and registering my userid and other information. Once the device was fully configured for use, I put in my home, away and sleep schedules and I was all done.
It has been running for a couple of days and although we're not ready to be using the A/C, I did test that and have both my heating and cooling configured to be automatic.
I would get this again.

Replaced a Nest thermostat with this Honeywell thermostat. I used the Nest for 2 years and although Google does a great job on the web browser, maps, and some other Google software, they just cannot make a thermostat. Honeywell on the other hand has been in the HVAC business for a long long time and knows everything there is about thermostats and HVAC controls. Google was one of the first to make an app based thermostat, which seemed at the time to attract the geeks and people wanting to control their thermostat using the Internet.
The Honeywell thermostat is app based and uses a better processor to control your HVAC unit, it uses a different technology for sensitivity for air movement and temperature. The Honeywell thermostat also can use multiple rooms and average the temperature as you choose, where the Google thermostat at this time has not been able to do that. Also, Google nest thermostat motion sensing at night in your home leaves a lot to desire.
To sum it up, the Honeywell thermostat is an HVAC controller built by one of the oldest HVAC companies in the world, it is designed to properly run your HVAC equipment, efficiently, effectively and with 100 percent comfort in mind, while helping by saving you money on your electric bill.

Nice thermostat. It was easy for me to install, and I'm no electrician. I bought a couple of extra sensors so I could monitor temps in three different bedrooms. Seems to work well, and I like that I can change the settings from my phone if I'm too hot or cold at night.
The thermostat is supposed to display outdoor temps by accessing the internet, but my unit only does that sometimes. I'm not sure where it gets the temperature information, but either the connection of the source is bit unreliable, it seems. Not a big deal. Still a solid product if you can get it for a good price.

We (my spouse and I) primarily wanted a thermostat with WIFI capability so we could check its status remotely. The T9 accomplishes this and brings other features: A Smart (room) Sensor (included), Geofencing (Home/Away settings) for examples. Also was easy to install as we had a "C" wire (a wiring interface is included if you don't already have a "C" wire). Easily went online with our home WIFI (we have Xfinity Xfi). We have it set up to receive alerts when we each venture beyond the Geofence (user configurable), and back. And the all-white appearance looks really nice on the wall. Useful, functional and smarter than a basic thermostat.

This thermostat has taken the guesswork out of what temperature the house it at. It couples with a phone app and an included smart room sensor (1) where you can monitor/change (with alerts) temperature and humidity in two rooms in your house, 24/7. Instructions are simple and easy to follow, there is also info on the web site with video tutorials and a toll free #. The wiring is straightforward for most modern systems. The display is simple, sleek and has varying settings for dark mode, night light, etc. Recommend!

Sure there are other Wi-Fi thermostats out there with more connectivity to apps such as Alexa or whatever but I don't need that. I just need it to do what I tell it to do without Alexis sticking her stupid nose into it. I am a landlord and I pay the heat at my properties therefore I control it. What I like about this thermostat is the wireless sensors... I have one in each apartment so the temperature in each apartment of the building can be monitored. I have a four Plex and if one of the tenants thinks it's cute to have their window open in the winter time because they're not paying the heat then I simply turn off the sensor to their apartment and they do not trigger the thermostat all they do by opening the window is get themselves and only themselves cold and do not kick up my heat bill. Truly a landlord's best friend and what I like about these wireless sensors compared to the ones offered by nest and those other guys is the range is superior and I've had zero connectivity problems they never lose signal and my furthest one is 127 ft away from the main thermostat which is in the basement by the way near the furnace with tenants have no access. I control everything from the app on my phone. I can adjust it from the comfort of my home and I get heads up on if there are any issues with temperature alerts. If you are a landlord and you need remote sensor capability please consider this one over the competition. Honeywell has been in the business of environmental controls for much longer than these New kids on the block. And you can take that to the bank... literally
