Vacuum not high enough for my high pile carpet. More importantly, it did not suck. Took it back to Best Buy.

Hi Kate! We're sorry to read the Tempo didn't work out for you. If you have a particularly high pile or plush carpet, you may be in need of a vacuum with a higher clearance. We suggest inquiring with the manufacturer of your carpets to see which Hoover they recommend. Hope this helps! ~Kenya, Hoover Customer Care

To sum up the quality and value of this vacuum… I named it. I call her Helga. This is the only competent upright vacuum I have ever purchased and I’m not even persnickety (love that word)! I needed to be economical with cost and I am absolutely thrilled that I finally got more than the money’s worth for a household necessity. The suction power is considerable! I was particularly impressed with the suction capability of the wand (not to mention ease of use and proportionate extension). In addition to an upright, I always used a canister vacuum to get high up places, furniture, stairs, etc… This is because, before now, I have never had an upright that had efficient wand / hose functionalities. Now I only have to use one vacuum. The vacuum is lightweight, yet durable. It is not finicky about the items to be sucked up. I have 3 children under the age of 10... I have had this vacuum 3 months and have not had to take it apart) not even once! Not great on bare floors but that is what brooms are for!

Best Vac Ever Purchased

WOW!! This little machine has all the features that I was looking for in a vacuum. First, because of a bad back, I wanted a vac that was light weight. The Tempo Widepath is much lighter than most vacuums and although not advertised as self-propelling, it does move on it's own, almost pulling you along - but gently. With 3 dogs and living in the country, I also wanted good suction. Incredible suction even on dog hair. Attachments stay put and the vacuum bag alert for bag fullnes were great additional features. Yes, the hose is short and it is a tad noisy but all the other features make up for the slight shortcomings. I am going to buy another one just in case they stop making this particular machine. Then to top it all off - what an inexpensive price for such a quality machine. As I was vacuuming the first time, I called friends and family to let them know what a GREAT buy this was especially my pregnant daughter and elderly mother-in-law who could both benifit from the lightness of this vac.

This is the absolute best vacuum cleaner I have ever used. The suction! The suction! I cannot believe all the money I have wasted on other vacuums...never again. Honestly, my carpets look fresh and new...I couldn't stop looking at them all night and smiling (I know, I'm pathetic, but it's the little things!).
For anyone who has despaired of ever having a worthwhile cleaner without spending $800 or up, this is for you. It doesn't have any silly bells or whistles that are "so cool, too bad it doesn't pick up lint"---it's just a basic upright and hose attachment that could suck up your cat. (Probably why they made it loud---to scare any pets away from it !)
This is not just 'a great vacuum for the price', it is simply a GREAT VACUUM.

All other reviews here are valid. The carpet height lever works best when in it's full upright position. The suction is truly insane and with power comes responsibility. Hopefully you will use this power tool for the good of humanity and not for evil. Cleaning area rugs can be frustrating because of the power of this cleaner and the bare floor setting seemed to offer an almost fair fight. Because of this, it is a slight drawback. Also, it is light, it does tip a bit when using the attachments so that is a slight drawback but if you want a heavier vacuum - more power to you. I too purchased this vacuum based off of a Consumer Reports magazine review.

Had a different brand that was simply awful. I read the reviews on this and decided to go for it (even though I had originally purchased the bagged pet hair Windtunnel for $50 or so more. But the Pet Hair Windtunnel was back-ordered and after a lengthy wait to receive that I decided enough was enough and returned the purchase receipt and instead bought this for, as I said, approx. $50 less. Well, the reviews were right. This is one heck of a DANDY vacuum and for the price - you simply CANNOT beat it! The hoses ARE indeed short so be prepared for the vacuum to tumble over but at least it has a few attachments to lengthen the hose which helps. The cord is long however and that helps. Great suction, EASY set up, but don't make the STUPID mistake I did though and forget to connect the hose before you plug it in to use it or you will have hair and debris EVERYWHERE. (Stop laughing)
I believe you will be very happy with this vacuum. There's nothing like a Hoover!

Not as advertised

Buyer beware as the model delivered is not the one advertised, as the one I got does not have the headlight or the full bag indicator which is not a deal breaker considering it was on sale for 71 bucks.
BTW I got this one in addition to a 3yo Tempo that still sucks/works like new, having only had to replace one belt due to my child sucking up a sock and jamming the brush.
Bang for the buck there is not a vacuum that can match this Tempo for being able to pick up dirt and animal hair and we have two dogs, two cats and a neighborhood of kids in and out.

Simple vacuum that works great

We bought this vacuum because we needed one right away and didn't want to pay a lot of money. The reviews were all great so we felt OK paying less than $90 for a vacuum. It works so well! We had new carpet installed 6 months ago that still shed and our old vacuum did nothing for, but this one really cleaned everything the first time. It's a little self-propelled which is nice, it's not too heavy, and has worked well on different surfaces for us. Not the prettiest vacuum out there, but really great quality for the money.

Ok, I have gone through like 8 vacuums in the past 5 months, just looking for the right one. I went for the bagless models and each time I exchanged the previous one for a more expensive one. I have 4 kids under the age of 6 and two dogs. I vacuum everyday! Not to mention I have a 3500 Square Foot home that is split into 4 levels! Lots of vacuuming needs to be done. Well, I finally took back my last vacuum after being dissapointed, and I picked up this Hoover Tempo from Best Buy. I thought, "geez, bags again. They will be expensive." But I took the chance. Let me TELL YOU: This vacuum is AMAZING. GREAT. WONDERFUL. The SUCTION is incredible with the hose and the machine itself. I know the biggest complaint is the noise, but I will take this loud sucker any day compared to the cheap vacs that I had before. The others worked for a few weeks and stopped picking up. This Hoover has maintained it's suctioning power for 3 months! I am in love with it. It is a GREAT BUY! I will never buy another vacuum. I am actually really pleased with this one even though it doesn't have all the bells and whistles of the other models. This basic vacuum kills the others by 150%. AND AND AND it's way cheaper.
BUY THIS VAC - you won't be sorry.

if you want a hoover windtunnel vac without the unnecessary bells and whistles...then get this tempo...this is virtually the same product...
-
this thing cleans great and grooms the carpet nicely...also has a nice headlight...
-
the accessory hose could be a little longer...but no, the tools don't fall off like another poster stated...
-
regarding the comment about rug damage...as with all rotating brush vacs be sure to set the height properly or sure, you could damage your rug...
-
unlike some other brands at this price level, the quality is there where it counts...(suction, motor power, brush) it is very well made for its pricing...i paid 59 bucks for it
-
however, if you'd like to pay 400 bucks for a vac that looks like a lunar lander and requires messy maintenance like a shop vac...then please, go right ahead....

This vacuum cleaner is okay for the money. It does what it is supposed to do. It is very light and easy to manuever, but feels extremely cheap. The belt broke within the first two days of use. Have replaced the belt and haven't had any problems since. It is very loud, as many of the other reviews have said, however I have never owned a quiet vacuum cleaner. Suction power is good. Doesn't seem to have any problems picking up dirt, dog hair, etc. The front plastic bag cover doesn't latch on very tight and has a tendency to fall off during use. Also, the attachment hose is very short and seems to crimp easily. It does the job I bought it for, but would probably spend a little more money for better quality next time.

I did a lot of research before purchasing this one. I had a Eureka Boss Smart for only 18 months when it broke beyond worth the repair fee. This had excellent rating from a well known magazine, was extremely cheap compared to others and I'm very pleased with it. It has amazing suction, was very easy to assemble, the suction through the attachment is the best I've ever had on a vacuum, the light is very bright for cleaning in dark closets or areas, it's so lightweight which is a real plus and the cleaning path is not too big (which is a disadvantage in smaller areas) or small. The suction is so good it does actually move on it's own like others have wrote in their review. The only complaints I have are the cord and hose lengths could be a bit longer. Other than that it's definitely a smart buy, especially for the price. You can't beat it. Others complained about the suction being too much - they must have the brush height adjuster too low as it shouldn't be doing that! The lower the brush height the more it's going to brush the rug! Someone complained about the cord on the back - they also must not have read the directions as it shows exactly how to put the cord on the back so it stays up off the floor. If the manual is read it works much better!

Pet Owner Review

This vacuume I originally bought because I was replacing a Hoover. My older Hoover had excellent suction but this vacuume leaves the old one in the dust. This vacumme picked up so much dog hair I needed to replace the bag because it was overflowing and backing up in the hose. Even with the back up into the hose, this machine did not lose suction power. I am impressed because I am not an avid vacummer. Sometimes only vacumming once a month.
If you are a pet owner with carpet (DOES NOTwork well on tile and wood floors), this is a good vacumme for under $100. 3 pack of bags is $10.

I am inlove with bagged cleaners having used bagless at work. I love the ease of just throwing away the full bag and not having to worry about cleaning filters and having dust fly everywhere. I had my old hoover for about 15 years and when looking for a new bagged hoover I had a heck of a time. I found this baby and bought it right then and there. I didn't relalize how much my old vac was missing. I love and will always own a Hoover!! The only problem I have is the door you pop off to change the bag is a little hard to open. It's does make a little more nosie than my old hoover, but it's a vacuum. If you have pets or children this is a must have!

Best low cost upright vacuum on the market

If you are looking for an inexpensive yet powerful vacuum this is the one. I purchased one for my father, who is 84 yrs old, over a year ago. He needed something light and easy to maneuver and this vacuum is very easy on your arm due to it's low weight. It worked so well for my father, I purchased a 2nd one for myself 6 months ago. It has very strong suction and enough features to do most jobs. I also have the highly rated Eureka Boss, but prefer this Hoover for most jobs due to it's easy operation and maneuverability. I should add that the cover for the bag was defective on a unit I bought and returned - it didn't snap shut which has been described by others as a problem with this machine. The cover does snap shut if not defective. There is no better upright vacuum at this price point.

For the price, this is a great vacuum. I'm sure if you decided to spend $400, you could get one much better but for those of us who can't justify that, this one is perfect.
It is very noisy, as other reviews have stated. And the hose is short but comes with two extenders so I really haven't had a problem with that. It's very lightweight and does seem to be self-propelled even though it's really not. It picks up absolutely everything with ease and has made vacuuming my floors a lot faster. Overall, well worth the money!

This is a great vacuum for the money. I just switched from a bagless to this bagged vacuum, and I love it. I don't miss the bagless vacuum at all. It has great suction power and is very lightweight. I would agree with other reviewers that the hose for the attachments is too short, but all in all I am quite pleased.

Finally a vacuum that cleans my carpets

We've been through about 4 bagless vacs in the past several years and all of them were huge disappointments. We finally did our homework and came up with this excellent deal. For the price, it can't be beat. Its powerful and cleans well. I have 2 hairy dogs and so far it is doing a wonderful job picking up the dog hair. Its not exactly the most quiet vacuum you may have come across, but I don't plan to vacuum carpets in the middle of the night either. I may never go back to bagless again since we've had nothing but trouble with all the bagless models we've had.

Has great suction power, very good on pet hair, works better than more expensive models. Works real well on hard wood floors, especially on kitchen floor. It's not heavy to lug around, is a little self propelled. Was so happy with product, purchased a second one for my cottage and another for daughter who has new apartment. Cant say anything bad about it, except the attachment hose is too short to reach high places. A very good buy for the money. Blue color is not bad a color, have seen worse. Power cord is long, so your not unplugging and replugging constantly.
