I collect Christmas films and TV specials. If I see one (on TV) I don't have, I'll record it (on my PC) and watch. If I then like it well enough (to want to see it again in future Christmas seasons), I'll copy it to an external disc for longer-term storage. I'll also look to see if I can buy it on BluRay (preferred) or DVD for more reliable long-term storage. This film is one I ran into a year or so ago and decided I wanted to keep.
The film (animation style and story line) feels "old" (like animation stories were 50 years ago give-or-take) so I was a bit surprised to discover it was made in 1996 (which is over 20 years ago, but feels "recent" to me). I also learned it was made in Germany which could explain the "old world" feeling to it. It's certainly not flashy like many newer stories are these days, but is a pleasant watch if you like the simple stories.
The DVD itself has very little extra beyond the film itself. The main menu has only two choices: Play and Scene Selection. So you're basically buying only the movie here with no Bonus.

Cute cartoon, but for a bit of an older child. My 3 year old didn't like it as much.
