I’m glad I decided to go with this laptop, but there are a few things I dislike about it. The natural oils from my hands leave prints all over the computer. I have provided a picture. It looks soooo dirty. I also can’t see the letters very well at night, because the keys don’t light up. The screen glares a bit, and the camera isn’t very great. The price, the size and memory are the reasons I’m giving it 4 stars. It does what I need it to, so overall it’s okay.

I went shopping for a new laptop. My primary criteria was that it has 10 key (number pad), a disk drive and an i5 or better. This left me with very few options, 3 to be exact and one of those was on "Clearance" which really only left 2 options and both were identical aside from processor generations/speed. I had previously been using a Dell E5440 upgraded to 16 Gigabytes of memory and a 1Tb SSD and aside from the lack of processor power, my biggest complaint was a lack of 10 key. Out of the box I was pretty happy with my new HP laptop, it is bigger yet lighter than my previous laptop (I do use my laptop on my lap) and it has all the features I knew I wanted. One of the biggest features that I found "missing" right off the bat was the lack of dedicated speaker control buttons but I knew to gain things I want I would sacrifice some of my comfort items. Power on it needs to finish setting up, input personal information and set up the security. Once loaded I found it full of bloatware and using nearly 45 gigs of its very tiny hard drive. A quick Google search showed me how to remove all the bloatware and get it to a standard Windows computer which took about an hour to complete. Once all the bloatware is removed you lose function of many of the quick access keys for things like volume adjustment (basically anything you use with the fn key plus the "F" keys at the top of the board) The PC is shipped in "S" mode meaning it is supposed to be extra secure by not letting you install unauthorized programs. The 2 that are worth mentioning is Google Chrome and Trend Micro. Typically I wouldn't waste my time even mentioning Trend Micro but Best Buy chose to "bundle" a 6 month free version of the software with a PC that can't use it. Getting it out of "S" mode is fairly simple, but does take a bit of time and Windows uses lots of "scare tactics" to make you really second guess you decision. Most of the programs that I wanted to use are either not available from the windows store or they charge for them so pulling it out of "S" mode was a no brainer for me. The mouse pad is a generous size which I thought I'd really like but has quickly turned into an irritant. If HP would have moved the mouse pad down just half an inch this wouldn't be a gripe from me. As it is placed, when you type, your palm is constantly moving the mouse around. I also find it difficult to use the mouse keys as it seems like they are halfway you the platform of the board rather than at the bottom where they belong (I'm sure this is a "Me" issue but it was worth noting. The optical drive, one of the biggest reasons I purchased this laptop, does not preform like it should. I am slowly digitizing my very large CD and movie collection and upon inserting a disk the drive does nothing. I have to open file explorer and force it to read the disk so that it can be ripped to my library. Every computer I have ever had prior to this one automatically recognized that I've inserted a disk and I was able to tell it what I wanted it to do when the disk was inserted. This would typically just be a minor nuisance if I only used the drive once a day, week, month or year but as it stands I insert 15-20 disks a day and have to force it to read every time which has greatly slowed my progress. The installed 256 gigabyte SSD I knew was going to be a problem right off when purchasing. I do have a NAS (network attached storage) so I decided that the small storage shouldn't be an issue. As it turns out I did not realize how much space I use on a hard drive. The 256gb drive shows a usable amount of 237gb which is pretty common. With Windows installed, along with Office 365 and a couple of other small programs I used 50gb leaving me with just 187gb of storage. For most that should be enough but I was receiving storage alerts just 2 days after using the computer. I will be upgrading to a 1tb hard drive in the next day or two which leads me to my next concern... The laptop is not shipped with any kind of Windows key or proof of genuine Windows 10 authentication. Which means that when I upgrade my hard drive, or the hard drive fails in general, you may have some difficulty with reinstalling Windows. Windows does not like hardware changes, when I reimaged my old hard drive to the new 1tb SSD in my previous laptop I had to input the Windows code to be able to activate it even though it was activated before (I will update this if I have major issues when I upgrade the hard drive). The body of the laptop seems very flimsy. I am admittedly used to the very rugged case on my small Dell laptop and only time will tell how it stands up to the test of time. The screen is very shiny meaning it will reflect any light behind you. It would have been nice to have an antiglare screen option but that would have added to the cost of the unit. Over all, aside from some glitches, this laptop seems to run very well and has the power to do what I need it to do. For the average user it will most likely perform flawlessly for a couple of years which is realistically the life expectancy of a laptop in this price range. This is far from a high end gaming PC but is an decent general use or work from home PC.

    Terrible Laptop

I wrote a review on this product already but I take back everything I said. I haven't even had this laptop for a year yet but the camera was extremely glitchy and now the computer doesn't detect the camera. The battery life in this computer isn't great, it only lasted about 30 minutes before I had to plug it in. The material of the laptop is extremely brittle. I have never dropped the laptop or anything but the base of the laptop cracked and the frame around the screen is loose. The frame cracked in the area of the charger port and every time I opened it, it was break even more. Today it got to the point where it was difficult to put the charger in and when I got it in, its not charger. Wires are currently coming out the the laptop. There is also a slight crack on the other side of the laptop. I am extremely disappointed.

Laptop has exceeded expectations. Purchased at the beginning of COVID for WFH. Screen is large and suitable for gaming, design, and regular web surfing. I do wish the SD port was more secure with holding SD cards as it seems there is no locking mechanism to be sure it has connected to the port other than the sound the computer makes. Other than that, it has plenty of memory capacity for saving games, uploading images, and is overall extremely easy to use.

This laptop is for business work only and needed a 17.3 inches screen for my job able to put all the work in one screen short and read. The laptop came with win 10 S mode but I changed to win 10 home with no cost from Microsoft. My laptop is working good but the hard drive came with it 256GB SSD but don't save any data into my hard drive laptop. Laptop start up fast and clear.

This laptop works prefect!! Although I was very disappointed with the camera resolution (my tablet has better video card than this laptop)... it has great speed processor which is the most important for me because I worked with graphic's softwares, also it was very easy to set up!

Seems like a good laptop so far. The actual specs on the HP site for this model says it has an anti glare screen. The screen is not anti glare. It's shiny as glass. Not happy about that since I have a window at my back in my office. If I had known, it may have been a deal breaker. My other 2 HP Laptops prior to this have actual anti glare screens. Best Buy page has no mention of anti-glare. These are best buy exclusives from HP so not sure if they can choose different specs for the build from HP outside of the standard specs and not sure which would make it be cheaper, with or without the anti glare screen. Also, the HP site has Windows 10 As OS and this comes with Windows 10 in S mode.

It is a good laptop especially for studying and work due to the 17 inch screen. the only downside is that I can't get my HP printer to sync up to do duplex printing (print on both sides) -- and tech support at Geek has been unable to sync so I need to work from my previous laptop to print out tests. More of an HP printer than the laptop.

The laptop is easy to use. Quick start, large screen, plenty of SSD storage for most applications. I had Geek Squad install 16gb of extra RAM so a few applications I brought over to this laptop would be faster to start up.

This is a great computer. You don’t break your bank when you buy it and it’s very easy to adjust to. Even my wireless mouse and keyboard hooked right up with no issues at all. I would recommend this to anyone especially if you don’t want to spend a great amount of money.
