This fit the bill for a "moveable" but hardly lapable laptop. My wife wanted the big screen, but wanted to be able to fold it away when not in use. She is very happy. This device has a good, but not great monitor. Fair amount of light leakage at the bottom on both sides. Doesn't bother her, so it doesn't bother me. Keyboard on first device was defective, but swapped to one that had no problems. Good touchscreen function. Decent sound from the fancy speakers. Nice to have a backlit keyboard and the big HDD.

Overall satisfied with this computer. No major complaints. Good power, 6th Gen processor.
It is heavy, and the keyboard could be easier to read, white on silver keys do not have the contrast that white on black keys would have. There is some light bleeding at the bottom of the screen, noticeable when bottom has black or dark background, not noticeable under normal overall use.
WI-FI works well, no issues there. Keyboard has good feel and keys work very well.
I keep it plugged in all the time, so I can't speak to the battery life, great for a desktop replacement, and for my work-at-home computer.
Touch screen works well, when you want to use it, I prefer my mouse normally.
Internal optical drive included, which is rare these days.
If it wasn't for the bulkiness and weight and the contrast of the keys i would give it 5 stars, would give it 4.5 if i could.

Not great, but not terrible.
Pros: Large screen, HD and RAM capacity, GREAT speakers
Cons: Long boot and start-up time, Battery life (2 hrs maybe without charger), EXTREMELY sensitive mouse pad even after adjusting the settings
Cool Features: Real Sense Software, 3D Camera, and touch screen
Not a gamer, everyday Web and Movie goer, run VMs.
I original paid 1,084. I was going to take it back and get something that was worth the money, but then it went on sale for 899.99 so I kept it once I felt I paid it's worth . It serves it's purpose for me. I'll probably purchase a SDD to up the boot/start-up time. If I would have purchased a cheaper Laptop I would have spent the same amount purchasing more HD and RAM
Be prepared to be driven crazy by the mouse pad! Thinking about purchasing wireless mouse and keyboard

This laptop is all it says & more. I love the 17 inch screen...it's big...you can use the laptop mouse pad or touch the screen...I love that feature!! I finally up graded from windowsxp to windows 10 & I am truly loving all the upgrades and improvements. I also like that this hp envy 17.3 also has a cd/dvd drive in it. All the others I compared it to did not have this feature. I am continuing to learn more daily, but am loving this purchase more & more each time I use it. You will not go wrong buying this laptop. :)

I had to upgrade from my last from last computer. I looked at many & read many reviews. This HP was a great choice . It is better than fast, almost lighting speed. Way more memory than I'll ever need. Easy to use set up was breeze. Highly recommend this computer.

Great HP laptop. The specs on this unit at the price cannot be beat. Add to that it is an HP and the decision was a no brainer. I have owned it now for over a month and just as happy as when I bought it. Speed is lightening fast. I can have so many windows open without any delays. I'm also a big fan of the 17in display. The screen resolution is perfect for watching movies or browsing the internet. Have not really made use of the touch screen feature but I am sure I will someday. The only criticism is the touchpad. It is sufficient but using a mouse is so much more user friendly. Highly recommend.

I bought a less expensive Happy Bday to me HP laptop and got it home to have it freeze up during the set up process and also the CD Rom door was broken/poorly constructed. Brought it back the next day and upgraded to this one for a big discount - thanks BEST BUY! Probably more computer than I needed but it gives me room to grow and tons of storage.

I was looking for a replacement for my old VAIO laptop, which finally died on me after long years of service. Unfortunately, Sony no longer makes computers, so I researched online all the other options, and talked to a Geek Squad techie about a replacement. I chose the HP ENVY because it gave me the large screen (17.3") I needed for photos & art work, it had a backlit keyboard, it had tons of memory and power. I don't know about its performance for games, because I am not a gamer. I find the keyboard slightly hard to use for two reasons: 1. It does not pick up all the letters I enter quickly, and I have to correct much of my typing; and 2. The back lit keyboard is great at night, but during the day the individual keys are not as clearly visible as they should be. The monitor/screen is somewhat reflective, more than I would like. But in lower light, it is satisfactory. I may get an anti-reflective screen in the future to reduce glare. This is not a beginner's computer. I like the touch screen, but I don't need or use many of its other features. Getting my email to set up was a problem no one wanted to touch, either at MS or HP. I finally had to get help from the Geek Squad and they had to make some adjustments to get everything synced. Some of the problems, and it's hard to know exactly where each problem originates, begin with Windows 10. That is one quirky OS. I have used every OS since Windows 95 except Windows 8, and this is the worst OS since the 2000 version. Microsoft is determined to organize your work, documents, photos, your life according to its plan. When transferring info from Win7 or Vista, Win10 reorganizes it into a totally different style. Why? Finally, after making adjustments and work arounds for most of the problems, the HP ENVY 17.3" seems to be satisfactory. Once in awhile it is slow, and one day the camera didn't recognize my face at all. As I said, it's quirky, but if you've used PCs for awhile, you will be able to adjust. The sound is good, the monitor is bright and the colors seem true. There are plenty of USB ports and a CD/DVD drive. Some days are a joy, others are not. All in all, I would recommend this to someone who needs a great screen and lots of power & memory. By the way, I am 77 yrs. old, and am able to function well except for fast data entry problems, although there is certainly a learning curve involved here! Bottom line - I'm having fun with a brand new toy most of the time!

I bought the HP Envy to replace a desktop, so screen size was very important. The 17.3" screen is exceeding my expectations. Start up time is quick and The REAL sense 3D camera is fantastic. You can set it to use facial recognition for initial sign on. and I've been using it this way since April 16th, 2016. Weight is heavy but expected with such a large screen. Battery life is poor but with the large screen I'm ok with the trade off. The 1 TB hard drive has been great, My only wish is that it came with a solid state drive but it wasn't a deal breaker considering the overall value. Sound quality is excellent. I'd buy it again.

I'm very happy with my new computer. Especially like the 17.3" screen. I use a mouse rather than the touch pad when using the computer at home; find it to be more efficient. This is an upgrade from my old desktop computer, so I like the portability of this laptop. Windows 10 is such an upgrade too, although I realize I haven't even tapped into many of the features yet. Very satisfied!

I was skeptical about purchasing this at first, as it seemed a bit too big for my needs. I'm glad my husband talked me into this computer, though. I'm a grad student, and the big screen allows me to work on two windows at once, and I have no problems seeing clearly.
Of all the laptops I've had, this one is by far my favorite. It's fast, has massive storage, and is smooth to work on.

This unit is very easy to use. Love the windows 10. Touch the screen or use the mouse.. this feature is easy on the wrists and hands. The only negative is the battery seems to drain quickly. I will have the Geek squad check this out. Very pleased with purchase.

The HP Envy is a very nice computer with all the bells and whistles. Everything you could want from a computer. High sound clarity, great video. Only drawback is that you can't update the computer without having to purchase software. When I unwrapped my computer, I had a scan start automatically telling me I already had numerous drivers out of date. Instead of being able to download updates, I had to purchase additional software. Also, the computer doesn't come with Office. You get a very short trial period and then roasted for a full price version of the software. Do your homework more carefully than I did. I thought I had this nailed, but got nailed. No problems with the computer, just the add on costs I'm not happy with.

Very happy with my purchase. Windows 10 is intuitive and the laptop has been able to keep with dozens of browsers open, multiple monitors and large excel spreadsheets open at the same time without hesitation. Fast and powerful. Don't love the mouse, but all in all a great laptop.

I would recommended to anyone looking to replace their desktop. The price and style is right on the money. However the battery life is not that great but it is a 17" so it is acceptable. I also wish the screen was able to fold all the way back so it can be use as a tablet.

It's a really nice machine, full of features, very large screen and very fair price.
My wife found this laptop; she wanted the 17" screen and full keyboard. She tested the keyboard at the store as this is very important for her. I then did some research afterwards to cross-check and made the purchase a few days later.
After one month:
Pros:
- Very hard to impossible to find a 17" screen with this feature set in this price range. 4 USB 3.0, network plug, WIFI AC, DVD drive read/write; Windows 10; nice large screen, 1TB harddrive; very good memory and CPU speed
- Price right around $1000 seems quite fair compared to other options
- It's very fast once up and running. (see con)
Cons:
- The obvious short-coming is the 5400rpm hard drive. On the plus side, it's 1TB of space, but yes, you do notice the speed compared to a solid state drive. But this is a trade off we were prepared to make given all the other features and it is very manageable. I would say, starting up from a cold start, loading updates, etc. is the most annoying, but after that absolutely no issue, it is very very fast.
- Screen bleed. There is some screen bleed on this model that you'll notice with all black or dark color backgrounds. Accept that there will be a little screen bleed, or else go with a higher end $$ or smaller screened machine. Again, after doing tests, we're very comfortable and for 95%+ of our usage it is not noticeable at all.
In summary, very happy with this HP Envy, I couldn't find anything out there to compare. The machine looks good and feels good. The full keyboard and number pad is a treat. This is not a machine to tote around (7lbs!), but an excellent desktop replacement if you only need to move it occasionally (which is our particular requirement).
The other note is that I changed the resolution to 150%, otherwise the screen resolution is ridiculously small. With this increase, the 17" screen is pretty cool.

The technical specs on this machine were exactly what I was looking for in a high performance workhorse for daily use. Completely independent of the hardware is the Winsows 10 OS, which is buggier than a Mississippi swamp in the heart of summer. Make sure to make backup media right away or switch this machine to a Linux or Apple OS right out of the gate. The touch screen and 3D camera are fun utilities to have and would be great for kids. I use this laptop for work and play and have no complaints whatever so far. I do miss my old touch pad kill switch on the HP entertainment laptop I switched from and backlit media touch keys but other than that I give this an A rating. Not an A+ because there is always room for improvement. On s final note, the 7th generation I7 is a beast of a processor with great speed. Just wish the hard drive was faster to match.

I got this laptop to use for Engineering related software and I was pleasantly surprised at how well it runs games. I can play Skyrim, and Dishonored with complete smoothness and maximum settings. It's a little heavy but I don't carry it anywhere anyway. I just prefer a laptop because a desktop is too much to move from place to place whenever I happen to need to.

I am a strong gamer. This computer plays games great! Overall with the 16 gig's and the graphics card, you cannot only game very nicely, but you can also do probably anything within reason with this machine. Highly recommended if you have the money to spend. Well worth the price.
