HP 34" Parsley

"Parsley, it looks great, but does absolutely nothing for this weak dish." The large screen uses most of the available resources which leaves the user with a big, slow, unreliable piece. HP went backwards on quality from Materials, keyboard, mouse, perf. But went up again in price. Returning it today, for a high perf. Laptop + large curved external display. I was a fast comp, large screen, and crisp display. My HP Omni 27" now 4 years old, blows this out of the water. Very disappointed HP. It's not like the user that buys this is trying to pinch pennies, give as an all around better product. Needs at min. Double the memory, better processor, solid state drive, and better quality mouse & keyboard. You reached for the stars here, and grabbed a lightning bug at best.

I have been an HP customer since 1990 when I bought my first HP LaserJet III from them. I have since purchased many more HP products over the years---both for business and personal use.
This is my second HP AIO (all-in-one). My first one was a 23-inch HP IQ-504 which served me well since I purchased it in the Summer of 2007.
This 34-inch Envy turned out to be even better since I purchase it on December 2016 and I'm sure it will last for a while.
My only complaint was that the original unit/item that I bought developed problems with the speakers after a week and I had to return it to the store.
And the replacement unit/them HP had sent me turned out to be a "refurbished" one! I could have just bought a refurbished one for $300 less!
It not for that I would have given the HP Envy 34-inch a 5-star review, but then again it was HP's fault---not Best Buys.

Like to start off by saying I have read many of the reviews here on Best Buy for this machine as well as numerous other sites that sell the exact same model and the next one up. There is a general agreement that for the price point, there are some poor design elements with the HP Envy 34 no matter which model you choose. This particular model, the A010, is far superior then most AIO, in my opinion. I have owned a few in my time. I personally don't care for touch and won't complain about it not being present.
PROs: The large vivid screen is simply amazing and that it is technicolor certified speaks volumes; the fact that it has two video cards is amazing - the Intel Embedded and the NViDIA Discrete; the Intel Realsense camera - ability to scan 3D objects and depth perspective with the camera; separate hdmi in and hdmi out; moreover, inclusion of a bluetooth keyboard and mouse.
CONS: As others have stated, the lack of an SSD or even a hybrid at the price point; ability to access hd and ram even though it is stated that the ability is there to upgrade; accessibility of two usb3 ports and the sd port - located on the bottom of the monitor; lack of technical documentation to replace the hd or upgrade the RAM; moreover, the cheap feeling quality of the bluetooth keyboard and mouse.
This machine is a beautiful and elegant piece of work. Sleek and modern look. Recommend to anyone looking to replace multiple monitor setups.
Recommend replacing the 5400 rpm slow and noise drive with either a ssd or hybrid drive - not to be done by the faint of heart only experience users as there is no documentation and the whole curved lcd screen has to be removed to access hd component. If RAM upgrade is desired, the lcd screen has to be removed as well as the mother board - RAM sits behind the motherboard.

Beautiful but underpowered machine--questionable e

Bottom line: This computer has the style of a Ferrari with the engine of a Volkswagen. A beautifully styled computer with solid, but very average, performance. Recommended with caveats.
My Alienware “desktop” tower computer died after a short bout with motherboard problems. It was time to buy a new computer. While I loved my Alienware for its performance, my wife hated the machine and later admitted she had been praying to Jesus that He would take the computer soon. It was big and loud and had vents that flared and lights that glowed…and overall did not fit in to the aesthetic my wife wanted for our home. Plus it had cables tracking everywhere to all sorts of other peripherals, like the monitor. She was more than ready for a change.
Going into Best Buy (where I purchased my Envy), she was immediately attracted to the Apple counters, and fell in love with the iMac. She loved the all-in-one design, and the clean modern look. But the iMac wouldn’t run many of my programs, so I was able to steer her away from those. Other all-in-ones she liked (though not as well as the iMac), but none of them had the power to run the programs I wanted.
Then we saw the HP Envy 34” curved All-in-One.
Seriously, you need to see this machine in real life. It’s breathtaking. The style and appearance of the computer is amazing. My wife even forgot about the iMac. She asked if it would work for what I needed, and I wasn’t finished saying, “I think so….” before she had it loaded on a cart and heading to the checkout.
Stacy Wolff, Vice President of Design at HP, and his team should be congratulated on their achievement here. This is one seriously beautiful computer. I wish I was a poet so I could do it justice. Sure, the keyboard could be a little better, and a more functional mouse would have been nice as well…but that would take away from the overall look of this computer. And it’s easy enough to get a wireless mouse or keyboard you like if the ones provided are not what you want (also note…some models have an internal wireless USB…if it doesn’t look like yours included the USB key/dongle, just make sure the batteries for your wireless devices are working and give the computer a minute to “find” them…mine has the internal wireless dongle, and I spent several minutes cursing HP for not including one before I figured that out).
All that being said, once you have it out of the box and are trying to use it, you wish the engineers designing the *inside* of the computer had done half as well. The 6th generation Intel Core Quad-Core i5-6400T processor is adequate, but the i7 processor is available. Likewise, it uses an adequate NVIDIA GeForce 960A graphics card with 2GB GDDR5 dedicated memory, and can use up to 8122MB Total Available Graphics Memory as allocated by Windows 10--but other, more powerful video cards are available. Why would this make a difference? Well, the beautiful screen on the Envy, probably the reason you are looking at this computer to begin with, is an amazing 34 inches with native 3440x1440 resolution. The 2GB video card to put moving pictures on that wonderful screen is made for 1920x1080. Maximum VGA resolution is 2048x1536. If you’re going to do something like edit video or play graphic intense video games, you either need a more powerful video card or a more powerful processor…or both. As it is, it struggles with large high resolution photos and/or video. Don’t get me wrong, the set up isn’t bad…just not what it could have been. Laptops have more powerful processors and graphics than this set does. Another reason to have the more advanced processor would be they tend to be more efficient and have less problems with heat. The Envy only has some passive vents and a small fan for getting rid of excess heat, so that would be a significant consideration. If you’re a gamer, this will play World of Warcraft great, Skyrim does well on high settings, and Fallout 4 sputters at low to medium settings…so the company hype with “and NVIDIA GeForce 960A graphics, you'll have more than enough power for everything you do” isn’t quite accurate. Along those lines, 12 GB RAM isn’t bad…but since this is an All-in-One and upgrades in the future will not be easy (if even possible), they really should have put in at least 16 GB RAM if not 32 GB. Again, laptops do that with some regularity. So, the “engine” of this machine is a reliable, but underpowered performer, specifically in consideration of the large screen and native 3440x1440 resolution. Nothing wrong with VW engines, but you really wouldn’t normally consider putting one in a Ferrari. Sure, it probably would work just fine..but why?
The “Ferrari/VW” analogy works in other areas as well. As others have mentioned, the computer uses a mechanical 1TB (5400RPM) SATA hard drive. Really? What the heck were they thinking? It is a very slow and awkward drive. This computer, especially considering the size constraints of an All-in-One configuration, should have a lighting fast Solid State Drive (SSD). You can get a 1TB SSD, but if cost was a huge concern they should have at least had a 256MB or 500MB SSD with the 1 TB mechanical drive. SSDs work so much faster, and would have matched the visual aesthetic of the computer much better. This seems like it would have been such a no-brainer, you really wonder what they were thinking.
The computer has no optical drive, contrary to what some of the conflicting specs on Amazon say. This makes no sense. This is a visual machine, and a 21:9 aspect ratio begs for movies to be played on it. No DVD or BluRay player means that you’re stuck streaming over the internet, and again relying on your processor speed in part to get those videos showing. Seems an odd choice for how the machine is marketed.
"An exceptionally rich audio experience" from the Bang and Olufsen speakers is promised, but again, you get solid but mediocre performance. It’s not bad..but it’s not great either. I’ll be hooking up my Bose Companion 5 external speakers for better sound.
At the end of the day, my ASUS G-751JY laptop outperforms the HP Envy in every way, except screen size and overall looks. It’s a Ferrari engine in a Lexus body, if you will. The HP Envy looks amazing and will take your breath away, causing Envy in everyone who sees your beautiful machine, looks like a Ferrari…but once you start to use it you find you’re driving a VW. Nothing wrong with that, but the frustration of seeing the potential of this beautiful machine will turn your Envy into anger.

I took a chance on this because I wanted a large all in one PC even though the reviews were mixed.
Love the screen but it's slow based on today's technology. You also hear the hard drive throughout. I thought I would be done with the blue screen of death with Windows but I guess that's still around, even with Windows 10.
As you can tell, I returned this and went with the iMac. First time owning Apple PC. Still adjusting but don't hear the HDD or had to reboot to get out of lock up. And it's so much faster. I highly recommend your next computer has an SSD drive. So much quicker.

Love the form factor and screen size...replaced my older computer that had 2 separate monitors. LOVE it...EXCEPT the lame slow hard drive they use. Disk seek times are horrendous...will definitely be replacing that dog of a hard drive with a SSD to enhance performance. Why would they put a Volkswagen engine inside a Porsche racing car? That's what it's like...a beautiful piece of art that's visually stunning but that struggles to perform. What were they thinking?

The size of the display makes this a nice desktop for work. The hard drive access seems to be slow, i may have to look into an upgrade on that. The mouse and keyboard that come in the box feel very cheap. HP, kind of blew it on that one. I wasn't able to use these items for more than 1 day before I gave up and stole my wife's new keyboard and mouse.
Would I buy it again... Probably, the large display makes my other issues seem minor.

The screen is amazing in size and quality. It always got a compliment, but the inside tech could have been better. I have had this machine for two years and decided to upgrade to an SSD drive. I found it stalling on loading comparable to machines available now.
Also, on purchase, the first one received might have had a bad video card. Dealing with Best Buy was no fun, but HP was easy. I got them on the phone and had a new one hand delivered to me within the week. A bit of a pain and the only machine I've ever had this issue with, but I will stick with HP.

The display on this computer is very, very beautiful, and the speakers are pretty good too. As others have noted, the processor is a little slow, and the video driver is prone to crashing every now and then, though it always recovers within a few seconds. On the whole, however, I'm well pleased with this computer.

This computer is super fast and allows me to open 5-6 windows at the same time with no problems. The HD monitor has an amazing picture and has nearly no lag time. The only thing I had to do was get a separate wireless number pad because the numbers on the keyboard were to close together, I am used to a calculator and this made accounting or whatever easier. A fantastic computer thus far!

Nothing is going for this computer except for the awesome display. The computer is very slow at time and fast at times. For instance some times, I would type in "Screensaver" in start menu, then click on "Screen Saver", it won't open the screen saver window... I would have to do this multiple times to open it.
At times, I would click on the folder icon at task bar, nothing happens... Same thing as above, I would have to click numerous time.
The graphics are horrible in some games, not GTA but low graphic intensive games like Age of Empires III.
It seems like $1500 went towards the monitor and $300 for the junk inside.

Stunning New Desktop with 2 correctable flaws
Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
This HP Envy 34 all-in-one is a stunning machine, and the end result is something very new in the rather stale field of desktops. Not since Apple introduced the 5K iMac 27” have I seen such a radical step in desktop PCs. This is a long review, very long. It includes some DIY info at the end for opening this PC and hard drive replacement. So, you’ve been warned. Let’s get started.
My rating of 5 stars is based on the end result. There are many, many things to ogle and admire on this new HP Envy 34. There’s also a few real issues with this completely new form factor. As delivered, this machine is at best a 3-star experience. There’s 2 areas that are desperately in need of attention: the hard drive, and the Intel Realsense 3D camera. I’ll cover those issues as well, along with my solution to each of these problems.
First, the good. The best 3 things about this AIO? The screen, the screen, the SCREEN! The curved, 34”, 21:9 widescreeen with native 3440x1440 resolution is just amazing. I’m not a fan of curved televisions, but in a monitor, especially an ultra wide screen 21:9 unit, it’s a completely different story. Sitting in front of this screen, you’re completely immersed in content. It’s equivalent to 2 side-by-side monitors, but without the bezels. The curve is quite sharp on this screen, a 2m radius. With such a large widescreen, the curve means my eyes don’t refocus when glancing from the edge to the center. I’m older, my eyesight isn’t what is used to be, as I stare at a computer screen with progressive eyeglass lenses. This curved monitor is so much less fatiguing than flat screens. The screen has an effective anti-glare coating as well, another strong positive. Brightness and color gamut are also stunning on this unit. I had no problem brightening this in a well-lit room with a plenty of windows. In fact, the screen is most of the reason to purchase this unit, it’s just that good.
What else is good? The overall design. HP has done a fantastic job on the case and presentation of this all-in-one. It’s not quite to Apple standards, but it’s close. The case is white plastic, with black plastic accents. The bezel fits impeccably, with no gaps, including around the monitors concave curves. The highly-polished aluminum stands are a work of art. The tilt mechanism is a model of great engineering. You can easily position this monitor at any angle, and it just stays put. Speakers and camera are well integrated, and there’s plenty of ports (including 4x USB 3.0, yeah!). Sound is stunning. It’s branded as “Bang and Olufsen” and it’s the best I’ve heard from a stock all-in-one. The Intel Realsense 3D camera is also well integrated, when it works.
Performance is great. I’m not a super-power-gamer, but I do play the usual stuff like Warcraft, Diablo III, etc. On these games, frame rates were well up above 30fps in full 3440x1440 mode. So far, the highlight game has been Race Driver Grid 2. It runs smoothy in native resolution, and it just glorious on this screen. The nVidia GTX 960a graphics did a fine job on all these games, no complaints. 4k videos streamed without stuttering in Youtube, and a really highlight is 21:9, 1440p content on Youtube.
The Envy 34 is quiet. There’s a built in fan, but it rarely went to higher speeds. At slow speeds, you can barely here it. The power supply is a separate brick, and I prefer this, as it limits volume and heat inside the case itself. Overall, the “PC” part of this all-in-one works well, and it’s packaged in an amazing case with a stunning 21:9 screen.
Ok, now some of the issues with this new machine:
The keyboard and mouse are pretty cheap. There’s no separate brightness control on the keyboard, which is quite an oversight, given that this machine is all about the screen. Yes, you can change settings in Windows, but HP could easily have put dedicated buttons on the keyboard.
The Intel Realsense camera did NOT work out of the box on this machine. I finally got this partially working, and it wasn’t pretty. HP shipped basically a beta copy of the Windows install, and you’re going to have to do a bit of work to get things running. Once working, the ability to use W10’s “Hello” feature is well worth the effort. Login occurs when it recognizes your face, automagically. So, it’s worth grinding through the install headaches for this feature, too.
Finally, the biggest flaw in this all-in-one: the hard drive. This comes shipped with a 1TB, 5400 rpm HD. And it’s a total and complete dog. Why HP would gimp this otherwise magnificent new piece of hardware with a terrible and slow HD is beyond me. Initial setup took over an hour, and cold bootup with the HD is a several-minute experience thereafter. I swapped the internal HD for a proper solid-state drive, and it’s a night and day difference. If you’re buying this machine, consider a hard drive upgrade absolutely mandatory. I've written elsewhere full instructions on how to upgrade the HD (BB limits my review length, or I'd include it here).
So why did I award this 5 stars? Frankly, once the camera and hard drive issues are resolved, this is a wonderful, fantastic desktop with an absolutely unique screen and stunning design. It’s worth correcting these problems for the end result. This is cutting edge-tech in monitor design and form factor, and this is the first Windows-based desktop in a few years that really pushes the envelope. It looks incredible in person, the online pictures can’t begin to do this HP Envy 34 justice. The screen case, and (especially) the gorgeous polished feet make this stand out as a work of art.
Why not just purchase a similar monitor? That’s a fine choice, but I prefer the aesthetic of an all-on-one, with no cables (except the power cord). The polished aluminum stands are unique to this all-in-one as well. Further, you don’t get the 3D camera on the monitors (at least, not yet) and most don’t have the integrated B&O audio. This system does work, and its glorious once you fix the issues I mentioned. This really is a centerpiece on your desktop, either work or home. The no-cables look and sleek, curved case are like nothing else available.

I had to return this computer. due to the two graphic chips some programs worked with one and not the other. HP told me to disable one but then other programs wouldn't work right. The thing I loved about this computer was the 34 inch screen and the sound. they were both perfect. If all you wanted to was watch movies and surf the web it would be great.
