My parents 70+ years old needed a new printer and it took me forever to tell the why they needed laser instead of inkjet. Once I convinced them, I bought this HP printer for them. Easy setup and easy to load toner. They love it. They'll use the scan function once I get back to set that up. The color is good and it'll print photo quality - quality for them. If I were in need for a printer I would have bought another one for myself.

Good but no Automatic Duplex Printing

We were using this printer as an upgrade from an existing Canon MX922 when changing the home office from personal/business use to full-time small business. Unfortunately, I did not realize that it is not capable of Automatic Duplex Printing and will have to exchange it on the M477fdw model. Print quality is reasonable the retail price (good IMHO considering the deep sale price currently available). I reprinted a business proposal which was recently printed at a FedEx Office center, and the quality is about 85-90% (although some of that may be optional better paper stock that we had the FedEx Office use). Putting the quality next to the MX922's old output is no contest. MX922's output looks like 30% the m477's (as one would expect given the price and format difference). Font from the m477 is Crisp, Colors are much Brighter, and images/graphics are much more clear when using standard paper. As a LaserJet, the m477 is not capable of edge-to-edge printing, but it should do the trick for most of our business printing needs (even good enough for some marketing materials, although others may have a more critical eye than I).. It's too early to speak to price per page, but I expect that the optional 410X (vs standard 410A) toner cartridges should help to keep cost down slightly. PC Mag puts cost per page at "2.2 cents per monochrome page and 13.6 cents per color page" which is a bit on the higher side, but nothing extraordinary given the low-to-medium print duties for we'll be using it. I would only not recommend the printer because lack of auto-duplex printing seems silly for a printer of this price (although apparently not unheard-of). Otherwise, it seems solid.

It does everything I expected it to do. It scans fast. About one page per second and double sided. Laser printing looks so much better than ink jet.

Printer works great through WiFi from 3 home computers and direct from iPad and iPhone. Copy is ok; scan, FAX and other features not tried yet. Down grade is only for difficulty buying due to the 3 different part number suffixes that are not clearly explained except deep in the manual. The salesman was also unaware. I wanted the duplex feature (2 sided printing) which is not on the "fnw" version. This is complicated by the insistence by HP that all three are "duplex", just not "automatic duplex". The fnw does not have the paper flipper installed so is "manual duplex", meaning it prints all the odd pages and prompts you to turn the stack over and reinsert in the tray by hand to print the even pages on the backs. It would seem that by this definition, all printers have always been "manual duplex". This wasn't clear until I had spent time setting up the printer and trying to print double sided. I then took it back to exchanged it for the "fdw" which has the flipper installed. (The "fdn" has the flipper but no print server for wireless connectivity). Unfortunately the warehouse folks didn't read the part number right and shipped me another fnw. The third time was the charm, so, although I picked up the original printer same-day, it was 2 weeks to finally get printing (and flipping). Lesson learned: don't rely on the salesman to save you from such details, as high tech products these days are complicated. On the upside, the flipper is very nice and smooth, better than the one on my prior HP (an inkjet) bought 5 years ago, which has been a little noisy.

I purchased 2 of these for our temporary office and they have worked great. Easy to set up on wireless network. Works as good as a much more expensive printer. Only problem is scanning directly to email does not allow for pdf option, will only scan as a picture file. Easy solution to this is to use a USB drive which is very easy.

I was reluctant to go "back" to a laser printer after years of inkjets. However, I love this printer. It's easy to set up, with a lot of options for printing from phone, tablets or PC. The print quality is consistently excellent, both color and black and while. Cartridges last a long time and I can find them on sale. The Best Buy price was the best I found anywhere, too.

This thing is a network nightmare, which would be good for -2 stars, but once set up, the print speed and scanning speed make up for all of the setup pain.

We are a medium size business. This all in one is easy to use and convenient. The only issue we has was connecting the unit to the network for scanning.

Incredibly fast, easy to set up. Excellent product support and ease of repair (if ever needed) vs. my prior printer from a Korean manufacturer. The latter's authorized repair rep advised that it was uneconomical to repair, e.g., no local service, one location in the US, round trip shipping cost and a high hourly repair rate. Will only use HP from here on,

Great machine. However, it does NOT perform two sided copying. I was told it did automatic two sided copying but this model does not. But I learned that another model, similar in size and quality does. I upgraded to a machine that does automatic two sided copying. But if you don't need two sided copying, this is great. Fast, great print quality in color and black, quiet.

This is our go to multi-function printer for each of the restaurants. Faxing, scanning, copying and wireless printer are a breeze. Setup and software installation was straight forward and easy for us non-techies. 410x toner cartridges make it cost effective for all of our frequent menu printing.

Very easy to use and set up. Great features like document scanner, fax, and pdf maker (I love this special capability). Also, print from anywhere you have email access. Excellent addition to my small business. The cartridges are a bit pricey and I wish there was a recycling/refill process but no, you need to buy new ones.

As a real estate agent, I needed a quality printer for producing high end brochures, scanning in documents without losing quality of the image as well as a fax machine and copier. This machine is better than I had hoped for. After using an older HP 3550 for a number of years, I knew that HP wouldn't disappoint and this one doesn't.

This has been a reliable printer so far. It has not broken down. The downside with all laser printers is the cost of the cartridges. It is quite heavy and I had to have somebody take it upstairs for me. He found it difficult to carry and would probably never do it again.
