It’s fine the pages aren’t as clear and crisp as I would like but there could be a setting I’m not aware of. Easy to use!

I got this for a great price (almost half off) and although it’s been a while, I trust HP printers. I like how easy it was to unbox, plug in, and use. And all of the displays and panels are pretty self-explanatory. I’m also thrilled to have a Laserjet again for the print quality and longterm economy. (We have every little need for a color printer). To be honest, yes, I need to print things now and again, but it’s the scanner that indispensible when I need it. Haven’t tried it yet, but I don’t expect any issues. I did not enjoy the experience of registering the product and getting set up on the app. It’s not seamless, I don’t see much value in it, and the connection between my phone and the printer is spotty. Annoying. But printing from my laptop is hassle free, which for me is the more likely use case.

    Small Offices and Teacher Haven!

--- SETUP --- The setup of the HP printer was quick. However, I did encounter a problem in which I couldn’t get the “printer details” (as per the app). Therefore, I wasn’t able to use the print from phone features nor scanning from a computer. That wasn’t necessary for me to use the printer for wireless printing from my computer, though. --- FEATURES --- The key features are wireless printing, double-sided printing, laser black and white only printing quality, and a prefilled toner that lasts 2 years. --- PERFORMANCE --- This printer was able to print a 24 page double-sided document of mostly text and the occasional full page image in about 2 minutes. The print quality is excellent for my emerging bilingual readers. It wasn’t loud in comparison to full size office printers. --- EXPECTATIONS --- The product meets my expectations. I work as a teacher and our school provides full size printers. However, anyone who is a teacher knows that those full size printers jam more often than not or they are always busy with other teachers. My role this year requires me to have a smaller group of students. I often need to print about 20-30 4 page packets. This printer is more than capable of doing so in a timely manner and it's compact enough that I can have it in my small office without it occupying so much space. The document feeder is great for making physical copies. I wasn’t able to test the bed scanner because the printer’s app from both the iPhone's App Store and from the Microsoft Store would get stuck when trying to install all the features. Scanning is not high on the priority of things I intend to use it for, but it should be mentioned if that is what you’re looking for in an all in one printer. --- VALUE --- The price for the DEVICE in terms of value is offset by the fact that you wouldn’t have to invest in any toner for 2 years or up to 5000 printed pages, whichever you reach first. --- APPROVAL --- This printer is highly recommended for small businesses or teachers that only need printing black and white documents.

Ahh...I missed the smell of freshly printed copies

There's nothing like the smell of a freshly printed run of paper from a laser printer! But seriously, I switched to a color ink jet printer from a competitor a few years ago because it was compact enough to fit on my custom crafted home office shelves because...priorities. Over the years I struggled with having to buy individual colors because I forgot to print big presentations in black and white. I never printed photos, and so it was rare that I actually needed anything in color. At the end of the day it was such a pain. So when the opportunity to grab this new LaserJet from HP that actually fit nicely on my shelves I grabbed it! Unboxing/Build: Nothing spectacular about the unboxing experience or the overall build quality. The only concern is that the bottom paper tray seems to get knocked off every once in a while with my current placement, though not a huge concern. Setup: As a Mac/iOS user setup couldn't have been easier. I downloaded the HP Smart software using the website in the quick start guide. From there I followed the instructions to set up wifi on my home network. Within about 3 minutes I was connected to wirelessly print from my Mac and iPhone/iPads. Print Quality: Serendipitous timing as I had quite a few medical documents that I needed to print out, a 36 page packet was printed double sided in less than 2 minutes. Speed was fantastic, print quality for text and basic images was terrific, and that smell! Amazing. Note - if you do intend to print heavy graphics with block sections just know that this is a laser printer and solid patterns will generally have visible print lines. For general use its more than acceptable. If you're planning on framing it - look elsewhere. Toner Refil: The toner came full and ready to print thousands of pages. I generally print modestly on a daily basis, but quarterly I'll print thousands of pages at once. Thus, I haven't had a chance to change the toner yet, but I checked out the HP video on YouTube for this printer and it seemed super easy to access the toner refill opening and doing a quick search for the kit HP 153X returned some really reasonable prices for how many pages that will allow you to print! Final thoughts: If you need an office printer and you are comfortable with decent quality prints at a low cost per page and want to be able to quickly and cheaply refill your ink/toner then this HP is a great fit and I would absolutely recommend.

    An Almost Perfect Printer

Imagine a world where printers never needed their toners or cartridges replaced when their levels were low or empty. Doesn’t exist, right? Well imagine a world where printers didn’t need ink replaced for as long as 720 days. Two years. The LaserJet Tank MFP 2604sdw is that printer, and boy am I glad it’s finally here. The MFP 2604sdw is a fairly simple printer; it’s a standard printer and scanner/copy machine. It doesn’t have a nice color LED display, but a simple LCD screen that shows # of copies you’d like to make. There’s a dedicated “Start Copy” button for when you’re ready to start copying, and there’s even a dedicated “ID Card Copy” for when you need to scan booklet docs like a passport or similar. As far as scanning, it has two modes of scanning: a document feeder and a scanner glass. The only thing holding this thing from being absolutely perfect is the ability to do 2-sided scanning. Dang, that would have been nice. Everything else is just basic printing, either from your PC/Mac or your mobile phone. Most operating systems detect the printer just fine via Wi-Fi or Ethernet. For an initial setup, I decided to use my mobile phone using the HP Smart App; I simply chose the “Add Printer” button on the app and followed directions. The printer was ready and set up within 5 minutes. Whether you choose Wi-Fi or Ethernet, the printer will be discoverable in your network, and easily added as a printer to your PC/Mac. This printer is not the fastest this side of the Mississippi, but it’s definitely fast. At 23ppm, that’s plenty fast. In contrast, I have another HP printer that is doing 28ppm, but I can’t honestly tell unless I’m really staring at the printer. 2-sided printing is always a big plus as it helps save sheets of paper, and this printer is fully capable of doing it. The paper tray looks to hold about a little over half a ream of paper. Again, the scanner has two modes, document feeder and scanner glass. The document feeder can support a maximum of 300dpi and the glass can support 600dpi. 300dpi is plenty for everyday scanning of documents. 600dpi is good for scanning photos. Duplex scanning is missed here as a lot of documents can also be printed on both sides. There are ways to achieve 2-sided scanning with a single sided scanner, but the HP Smart software doesn’t support it, and HP Scan and Capture doesn’t even work with this printer as it just causes the printer to freeze. I had to take a star off for that. So I’ll most likely use the scanner bed for photo scanning or documents that are too thick for the feeder, and use another dedicated scanner for duplex scanning. Typically, printer ink/toner is not the cheapest. Oftentimes, we find ourselves just buying a new printer because it ends up being cheaper than buying replacement ink. I was already dreading the pending doom of buying more ink for a printer like this. But for under $30, you can purchase genuine HP toner for this printer, and it will yield approximately 5000 pages. Simply amazing. Speaking of replenishing the toner on this printer, it’s a lot different than replacing an inkjet cartridge or toner. Similar to how you fill your car with gasoline, you actually have to fill your printer with ink. There is a compartment underneath the scanner glass that gives you access to the ink cap. What’s crazy is that the ink cap is actually locked by the printer itself and will not unlock itself until it thinks it's ready for more ink. Now on the front of the printer is a large ink gauge (like a fuel gauge) that shows ink levels. It has three main segments, two long segments and a short segment. When a long segment is gone (unlit), then the printer will allow the ink cap to be unlocked and you can add more ink. Each segment is equivalent to one 153A Reload kit ($16.99). If two long segments are gone from the indicator, then you can load two 153A Reload kits, or one 153X High Yield Reload kit ($27.99). The last short segment is pretty much telling you that you’re low on ink. Once you’re all topped off, the printer will relock the ink cap and you’re good to go for a long, long while. So there’s the question of color prints; this printer does not support any color printing, but here’s my take on it. I think that this printer should be a daily driver or workhorse printer, and you should have an additional color printer for those times when you do need a color print or even a nice photo printed. The money you’ll save on ink will far exceed the cost of an additional color printer. My thoughts, anyway. Then there’s the scanner, which does everything well except for those moments when you need duplex scanning. If this printer didn’t have the scanner piece, I would give it a perfect score (and I think they do sell it without the scanner option). Overall, I highly recommend this printer.

    Great Office Printer/Scanner

The HP 2604 LaserJet printer is an allround office solution. The printer has this simple design and the gray and white color will match any office decor. It was very easy to set up and no ink installation was required. Just pull it out of the box, plug in to the power, download the HP smart app and add your printer. This printer can be used via USB, Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi direct, or it can be connected via network. I was able to install it on my Windows PC without the app and Android OS using the app. There is a caveat with the Windows OS, you will be required to download the HP Smart app to be able to use all the printer’s capabilities. I was not able to use the scanner without the HP smart app. I tried using it with Windows' own app and the printer would hang. I am not sure if it's a glitch that will be patched later on but it’s something I encountered. Also, on the Windows OS you're not able to scan using HP's own app unless you create an HP account, which I found troublesome. Basically owning the device and using their proprietary application is not enough that you have to create an account to use basic features. Using the mobile application on Android I was able to use all the features of the printer without creating an account. There are two ways to scan, using the automatic feeder on the top or the glass. The glass supports paper size up to A4 or Letter 8.5x11. With the ADF you can scan legal size documents. It seems that this scanner supports dual side scan automatically but I couldn’t get that to work. Although the software actually asked me to turn that feature on, it did not work. I even try by turning on the Duplex in the advanced settings and nothing. When scanning you have to manually select the source as the printer is not smart enough to figure where the document is located. Scanning quality is good but it’s limited to 600 dpi and that’s using the glass. The scanning speed was fast and very quiet. Printing is a breeze and it does it really fast with good quality. This printer holds up to 250 sheets of paper on the paper tray. I kind of like how the actual tray is hidden under the control panel which also acts as a cover. You can either pull down a front latch cover to refill the papers or lift the screen cover. Refiling paper is super easy. The control panel has a 1x1 black and white LCD screen and several buttons. It only displays several settings like paper count, brightness and other common features. If you want to scan an ID real quick, there’s an ID dedicated button for that. On the front you have an ink level indicator as well. There is something different about this LaserJet printer, you're not required to change the toner cartridge. This printer works with refills which cost less than buying an actual cartridge. The refill port is located under the scanner. Besides the few glitches I encountered this printer is a great device for an office setup, even for home if you don't need color printing. This is an HP printer and they are reliable. It does the job well, quiet, fast and it’s cost efficient to maintain. The printer already comes prefilled with ink and the manufacturer claims it can last up to two years. In the box you get the printer, power cord and manuals.

Great laser printer. I'm amazed and the print quality, super inky blacks! Setting it up was easy using HP's Smart software and following the on screen prompts. I have setup mine on with my router on my network so I can print from all my devices (they do include a usb cable btw). They include a toner that should last for a long time. The printer accepts tons of paper on the paper tray (around 200 pages or more, I put a huge stack and it took it no problem). Coming from inkjet printers, I am amazed at how fast it prints (HP says around 23 pages per min, and it definitly shows!). The quality of the blacks is great (I you have ever been on an office an somoeone printed you a page and it looked super clear and the blacks were super inky, they probably did it on a laser printer). This printer will save you tons of money on the tonner. I was gladly surprised to see how cheap they are compared to ink tanks! HP sells then on a regular variety and also on a High yeld one (one should be for 2500 pages, the other for around 5000 pages). The software will tell you toner level, however I also like that they put a little indicator on the front that tells you where you are at your toner level, so you know when to be prepared and buy a new toner replacement. Oh, and you can save on paper, because it supports automatic duplex sided printing (you can tell it to print on both sides of the pages and it will do it automatically!). The only con is that it does not do that for scanning documents (scanning both sides, you will have to feed the paper again on the tray flipping it over manually). Regarding the other functions, like scan and copy, I love that it has tray (can fit up to 40 pages), so you don't have to open it up to scan or copy documents, you just put then in the tray and it will automatically feed itself. I highly recommend this printer for SOHO or even at home, if you don't care about printing in color and you just want fast and great quality deep blacks!

Review of LaserJet Tank 2604sdw. The LaserJet Tank is a multifunction printer allowing to Print, Scan, Copy and connect wireless. Its print in letter size put to 23 ppm, automatic duplex printing. It has automatically on/off based on the usage, and long list of feature via HP Smart App. As per manufacturing specification it print up to 5,0000 monochrome pages. Full specification at its site https://www.hp.com/us-en/shop/pdp/hp-laserjet-tank-mfp-2604sdw-printer#techSpecs. Its actual setting and connecting to the network wirelessly or wired is quite standard closed to most commonly used in the market. Printing from the mobile phone is quite simple as well. Upon selection of the document, from the phone itself can detect automatically the new printer, and allowing to select and print without major or to none of hassle. The functionalities are packed and centered in the Smart App, and that is good. However, it feels bit overwhelmed as in order to find some specific functionality need to navigate around or it takes bit of long time to know each of functions. As result during scanning or printing takes some moment to find where to change some of common setting previous to actual print or scanning. One of few cool thing to note, is for instance from the tablet, can control what to scan and saved directed in the same tablet. However, I couldn’t find a way to set such that if I scan, store it in a specific cloud storage. Not sure if I need to drill into further functionalities for such function. Then as one thing that surface immediately is the noise while scanning to print. It does quite noticeable noise as if a big empty plastic box has a engine inside and moving alone. Aside of above description, I find it practical and suitable for small office or at home that need heavy non color printing.

    Fast; crisp text/okay graphics/cheap toner--value?

ECONOMICS: The MFP 2604sdw is spec'd almost the same as HP's M234sdw, but clocks in $110 pricier. However, the M234 requires you to purchase HP’s microchip-enforced toner cartridges or enroll in an Instant Ink subscription plan with prices/page limits ranging from $2/50 pages to $26/1500 pages per month. Obviously, the attractiveness of the cheaper M234 depends on your projected usage & how often you would otherwise purchase new genuine HP toner cartridges. Enter the MFP 2604sdw, an almost identical model with a slightly larger paper tray, SLIGHTLY faster print speeds (maybe 1-2 ppm quicker), & a refillable toner tank that uses absurdly cheap toner pouches—about $17 for 2500 pages or $28 for 5000 pages! This feels a bit greener as it eliminates a lot of extra manufacturing/plastic parts because the user is refilling only the toner itself. The printer is prefilled & there are no extra toner pouches in the box so I cannot comment on the refill process, but HP’s how-to video makes it look like refills take about 20-30 seconds with pretty much no chance of toner spillage. This all sounds great, especially if you’re not jazzed about buying genuine toner cartridges or the Instant-Ink architecture/pricing structure. The MFP 2604 is also very fast & text reproduction is stellar. However, graphics & greyscale reproduction are only decent at best & the centralization of everything else of consequence into the HP Smart app doesn’t make the printer feel quite as powerful/flexible as it should be. Coming back to the question of economics, performance is about on par with a “budget” laser printer, but you’re paying a larger premium up front primarily for the toner-pouch refill capability. This might work to your advantage if you spend less on toner pouches than the cost of a toner cartridge or the Instant Ink subscription per year—and don’t want to be limited to a certain number of pages per month--but those strapped for cash right now might still be left wondering why they are paying so much for something that performs like it should probably cost a bit less. PROS: - The MFP 2604 is FAST; a completed page takes under 7 seconds from the start of a print job with additional pages taking about 3 seconds; the auto-duplexer is incredibly handy for 2-sided printing without having to reseat & reorient pages in the paper tray - Text quality is simply superb—lines, corners, & rounded edges are clean & crisp without any blotchiness or bleed - The auto-document feeder holds up to 40 sheets of paper with a feed/scan speed of about 4 seconds per page; the primary paper tray holds up to 250 sheets of paper which should be more than ample for student, family, & small office work - Lots of printing/connectivity options with USB, Ethernet, & dual-band WiFi; you can print via WiFi direct, AirPrint, & print from anywhere with the HP Smart App - You get 300 DPI scans from the ADF but up to 600 DPI at the flatbed glass; given that the maximum resolution of the printer output is 600 DPI, this eliminates the possibility of scanning a document at a higher resolution (therefore creating larger files than necessary) than can possibly be reproduced on paper - The fold-down control panel offers a small LCD display with functions for copying, adjusting brightness, & reductions down to 25%/enlargements up to 400%. There's also an ID Copy button allowing you to take a 2-sided ID, scan the front side, flip it over & scan the back somewhere else on the glass, then print a single page with both sides showing. Hard buttons are also available to turn wireless on/off, cancel the current print job, & resume in case the print job was interrupted/needs user intervention - The HP Smart app really IS a user-friendly hub that provides multiple utilities & options for monitoring supplies; changing scanner settings (source ADF or glass, paper size, scan resolution, color settings, image enhancements, auto-heal for marks/hole punches & orientation correction); setting up workflow shortcuts (ex: send a copy to e-mail, save a scanned document, etc.); creating “Printables" for crafts & projects; printing documents; using HP Mobile Fax (a 2-year trial is included with the printer); printing photos, extracting text for later use, & adjusting multiple printer/admin settings CONS: - Graphics & greyscale image quality was only okay—complex images suffered from clearly visible stippling & long rectangular patches of grainy greys & blacks while simple things like single-color PowerPoint graphics & backgrounds were not smooth & uniform - The ADF is single-sided even though printing output can be duplexed—for the price, a duplexing ADF would have been greatly appreciated - The MFP is nice & compact, but the paper tray juts out the front about 4.5"; it fits loosely into the enclosure & does feel not well-supported across the bottom; if you were hoping to set this printer on a very small printer stand, you probably need to figure in the additional depth to keep the whole setup secure - The limited control panel means all you can really do *at the printer itself* is make a copy—you can’t press a button to scan to your computer, copy a document & send it to email, etc.—everything has to be done through an app on your phone or computer. There isn’t even an option to select 1-sided to 2-sided copies--very frustrating given that the unit has a built-in duplexer - The small LCD display is not backlit though strangely the buttons on the panel are; a small LED beneath the display would make it much easier to see - Setup was not without hiccups (some HP support posts tell me I am not alone in this regard). During setup, the HP Smart app on my iPhone 12 kept insisting I lost Bluetooth connection and would not continue, even when I had my phone sitting directly on the printer itself. My PC (2 feet away) ran into similar problems not being able to fully configure the printer from its factory-default setup state. However, I did get far enough along that the printer authenticated to my network before supposedly losing connection with the host apps. I *was* able to go back into HP Smart & complete setup by configuring an existing printer already on the network--once I did, everything worked as expected, but that was far more effort than it should have been - HP’s support pages for this MFP can be confusing. Most features are accessible through HP Smart; but additional configuration settings, monitors, & troubleshooters are also available using the HP Easy Start installation package from HP.com. PLUS, you need to install HP Universal Scan if you also want to save your scans as Editable Text (OCR). BUT, doing so will leave you with two copies of HP Scan, HP TWAIN manager, & two different scanner entries in the HP Scan app. You do get one license of Readiris Pro 16 with your printer if you install those other packages—this provides more OCR capabilities to create editable Word documents, PDFs, & XLXS files from scanner results—but you can only license it for a single computer (according to the installer). It is probably best to stick with the simpler HP Smart app and call it good - None of my Windows programs with TWAIN support recognized the MFP 2604 as an active scanner; if there is a way to seamlessly integrate the MFP into another program’s workflow, I was not able to crack the code--all scanning/saving scanned images appear to need the HP Smart or HP Scan apps - To make any advanced changes (default print quality, network settings, fuser & cartridge cleaning, alignment, default copy settings, etc.), you must head into HP Smart’s "Advanced Settings" submenu. These pages can be quite detailed/intimidating; however, if you are setting this MFP up in a professional/networked environment, you will probably need to spelunk through these deeper submenus. To get into these settings, you must enter a PIN code printed on a label inside the printer (marked by the arrow in one of my review photos). If you fully open the printer’s top so it stays open--like when you would refill the toner reservoir--the lid snaps into place. It then takes an alarming amount of force to snap the retention arm out from the catch under the lid. I was actually concerned I might break the hinge arm trying to close the printer--a friction-stop rather than a snap-stop would have been less concerning BOTTOM LINE: This one is a bit of a hard sell because I felt like there was a lot of room for improvement in print quality & usability. But if your needs are primarily text-heavy, AND you don’t think using HP Smart for other activities beyond printing from within a host program will get the in the way, AND you think you will probably burn through a lot of toner during the year, the economics & performance of this printer at the current price point probably make a bit more sense.

This laser printer, the 2604SDW is great! Set up took 2 seconds. You plug it in, then launch the HP Smart app on your computer (it was already installed on my computer, otherwise you have to download it first. Apparently you can do this from your phone as well, but I did it from my Windows 10 PC). Make sure your computer is connected to the same home WiFi network that you plan to use for your printer. Once you are in the HP Smart app, next find the icon and click on "add new printer." Once it finds the printer, click on the icon of it, then follow the prompts, and voilà, your new HP printer is ready to go, It honestly took longer to write this review. The 2604 says that it comes with up to a year of black toner and has a convenient display on the left side to constantly show you the toner level. I am very pleased with the sheets that are produced, great clarity and especially speed, from the time you hit print it immediately wakes and begins to produce, there is hardly any warm up time. I would say overall that the cost is comparative to other brands but that this unit may have slightly better quality in general. I am very pleased & would definitely reccomend to anyone.

Print quality is good and the speed is as expected if printing single sided. However, when duplex printing the time per page is about 3-4 longer. It will also pause when printing more than 10 pages and that can slow down bigger projects. I don't use the printer daily, but I have had a few problems where the printer is "offline" from a Windows 11 PC even though it shows to be connected to the wifi. Turning the printer off and on again solves the problem, but it would be nice to have it always ready.

This is a nice printer for home or office use. It has good quality print output and scanner also come in handy. Cuts the costs of printing on your inkjet by using it on things that don't need to be in color.

Our 25+ year old HP Laserjet stopped functioning so we purchased this new Laserjet Tank printer. Installation went smoothly and we had it up and running in 10-15 minutes. So far it's been operating great! We really like the idea of the toner tank which should eliminate the need for the bulky toner cartridge replacements. Print quality is good and the printer prints good quality so far. The scanner with automatic document feeder is a big plus and so far that has worked great as well. I also installed the HP app on my phone and was able to successfully print a document from my phone to the printer. That also went very smooth and seemed to work really well! Based on our use for about 1 week we are very pleased with this printer.

Bought this printer because it was the only one that they had that would do wide printing and everything else that they had on the shelf was out of stock or discontinued so they were basically wasting space but anyways I had a previous MF previous MFPHP laser jet printer this 1 is an HP laser jet tank which I didn't know what that was come to find out they don't even sell the ink for in the store anyways the anyways the printer is really fast it's scans really fast it friends really fast it's easy to set up I didn't know that it came with the incorriginally I was pretty upset but happy to have it now.

After some initial set up, which was easy and quick, I could begin printing immediately. Setting up the Wi-Fi was quick and easy and I was able to print from my iPhone within minutes. This is a great reasonably priced black-and-white printer. So far we are very happy.

Pros: Great Price, Prints fast and the quality is good for a home office printer. Cons: Printer is a little noisy, When I tried to automatically connect to my wireless home network it would not connect. I found out that my network was set up on 5g and you have to have a 2.4g network for it to connect automatically. If you go into the actual printer wireless modem settings you can manually set it up for a 5g network. After finding that out everything is working perfect.
