A beast, with a high price tag!

This machine is a beast, with a beautiful 240 hz OLED screen and trust me once you use a OLED panel its really difficult to go back. The RTX 5080 will give you 4090 laptop performance easily if not better and thats not including the titles with advance frame generation. CPU temps even under heavy load are good, and its not a macbook pro size laptop by any means BUT its a fairly “small” laptop for a gaming laptop anyway. The speakers are very good BUT not great. And then theres the keyboard, the RGB looks amazing but the look and soft touch isnt for everyone even if i personally love it. Internally theres 2 ram slots that are upgradable as well as a extra nvme slot. But the one con is the price, it’s expensive. But if you are okay with spending over 3 grand on a gaming desktop replacement you will not regret this machine.

Laptop runs great, thin enough and the OLED screen is amazing. Returned a 5070ti g14 for this and have no regrets. Able to hit 100+ fps in most games with dlss and MFG is pretty amazing as well. Trackpad could be better, but thats my only complaint. CPU temps can get to 100 but i havent had any performance issues.

Got another brand of gaming laptop first (more expensive and way more popular) it was a lot more slim and sleek design which compromised gaming. Crashing every a while on max setting or switching windows. Exchanged for this one perfect for me. The only thing is the keyboard design and touchpad are shxt but i mostly use external keyboard and mouse so not an issue for me but it might bother others

Overall decent, nice display, nice build quality. Have had issues with my bluetooth headphones and mouse, haven't been able to fix it on my end. My headphones will eventually glitch out and disconnect, while my mouse will occasionally randomly jump to the upper right hand corner while gaming. Its worth stating this was an Open box "excellent", so maybe the other guy was having the same issues. Also worth noting is the fact that the 2 usb-c ports are routed to the iGPU instead of the dGPU. The 1 hdmi is the only port connected to the rtx 5080! This was a massive disappointment as there would be a performance penalty if I were to connect my monitor to 1 of these 2 usb-c ports. (You can't rely on a mux switch to change this either). Unfortunately I have to turn down the refresh rate when connected to hdmi, thanks to my monitor having an older hdmi standard. They don't advertise these limitations up front though, so Best Buy has to deal with more returns like mine... That being said, the wifi card on mine could just be faulty and if you don't care about performance loss through connecting to the usb-c (if you have to) or you would be using hdmi anyway, then this is a good option for you as it is fast otherwise.

The HP Omen Max 16 with the NVIDIA RTX 5080 is an absolute beast when it comes to gaming and performance. It handles every modern AAA title I’ve thrown at it with ease—ultra settings, ray tracing, DLSS—no problem. The QHD+ 240Hz display is vibrant, smooth, and truly enhances the gaming experience. Combined with the powerful Intel Ultra 9 processor, multitasking and content creation are also a breeze. Thermals are well-managed, the build quality feels premium, and the overall user experience is top-tier. Battery life? Make sire you carry your charger with you at all times…but fhags expected. My only gripe—and the reason for 4 stars instead of 5—is that the Thunderbolt (USB-C) display output is routed through the integrated GPU instead of the dedicated RTX 5080. That’s a missed opportunity… Still, if you’re looking for raw power in a sleek gaming laptop, this machine delivers.

I only gave this four out of five because sometimes the switch to dedicated GPU creates lag. Other than that it’s a solid laptop. Especially if you can find it on sale like it was a couple of months ago. I was worried about the look of the keyboard from looking at the pictures, because I’ve never had one that had light visible around the keycaps. But once it I saw it in person, that concern went away. The keyboard is very nice and the RGB is great. It’s not too thick or thin, which is great, because it’s the perfect thickness in my opinion to get good thermals.

HP OMEN open box purchase. Fantastic Laptop

My last gaming/work laptop was a ROG Zephyrus G14 from 2022. I was considering the 2025 model for my new laptop but the RTX 5080 in it is limited to 120W. After researching many options, I decided on the HP OMEN. The price tag on these new laptops is a hard pill to swallow. But Best Buy in my area had a single HP Omen Open box. I decided to give it a go as it was $700 less than the retail price. The laptop is in pristine condition. setup was easy. I updated all the drivers and software from HP. They have a gaming app that lets you overclock and tweak the CPU and GPU. It lets you unlock the watts going to the GPU to 240. After i set it up and installed my steam library i tested a lot of my games. The laptop runs games like you would expect. My benchmarks 3D mark, Kombuster, PC mark all score a little above average for a laptop running a 5080 laptop GPU. One thing that i am really happy with is the new DLSS and Frame Generation up to 4X. The drivers are at a point now where the graphics look perfect even using frame gen. I am playing Dune Awakening at 2560x1600 with max settings, Lumen enabled, advanced shadow maps, DLSS, DLAA and 4X frame gen getting 180-210 FPS. It looks fantastic on the LED screen. I also used the laptop in the low power mode at a campground plugged in to a camping battery UPS. I changed the game settings too low to save power and the FPS was still over 120 FPS without using frame gen. This is bar none the best gaming laptop in its weight class.

Product case feels good and materials are reasonable for the price. It has been performing the tasks I throw at it fairly well. I'm having one big issue with the PC however in that I can't configure the keyboard to behave like the demo laptop in the store. I contact support and they told me to pay for an HP service to receive any help with this issue. Why would the laptop not be default configured like the demo?

I’ve been using the HP OMEN MAX 16” OLED for a few weeks now, and it completely blew away my expectations. From the moment I turned it on, the 240Hz OLED display stood out—super vibrant colors, razor-sharp contrast, and buttery-smooth visuals make every game look phenomenal. Perfect for fast-paced FPS titles and immersive open-world adventures. The Intel Core Ultra 9 combined with 32GB of DDR5 RAM makes multitasking effortless. I can stream, game, and run background tasks all at once without a single hiccup. Paired with the NVIDIA RTX 5080, this machine handles everything I throw at it on ultra settings, with ray tracing and DLSS running smoothly. Storage is never a concern thanks to the massive 2TB SSD—lightning-fast load times and plenty of room for my entire game library and work files. Design-wise, the Shadow Black chassis is sleek, solid, and screams premium quality. The keyboard feels great for both gaming and typing, and the cooling system does a fantastic job keeping temperatures in check even under load. If you’re looking for a true high-end gaming laptop with stunning visuals, top-tier specs, and a premium feel, the OMEN MAX is worth every penny.

really wanted to love this computer—its design and keyboard were outstanding, and nearly everything seemed perfect. However, after getting the laptop, I quickly ran into a major issue with battery life. Playing any video game required keeping it plugged in at all times, I noticed that when it was charging, it could push 4K resolution at 240+ FPS in most games. But the moment I unplugged it—what I like to call my "mobile desktop"—the performance dropped drastically to 20 FPS, with frequent freezing even at 1080p. After extensive research, I discovered that this was a common issue. The battery simply couldn't provide the minimum wattage the laptop needed, making wall power the only viable option for gaming. Additionally, while using the laptop, I often experienced glitches when trying to open multiple applications. It felt like the components weren’t working cohesively, leading to a sluggish and disjointed experience overall. Ultimately, after dealing with these frustrations, I returned the laptop and opted for the Omen 14 4070 i9 instead. This model proved to be much smoother, capable of gaming on the go, and delivered incredible battery life. Its compact form factor, excellent build quality, and responsive keyboard made it the perfect upgrade for my needs.

The performance is very good. The new 275HX does run hot at full load but cools down quickly. Finally, it supports USB-C charging, a step up from the omen I owned before. However, with the high price tag, it's not acceptable to have such cheap speakers on it. The first unit i thought its defective unit and the second unit was the same. By comparison, Legion Gen 10 is a much better package. Also, it's a fingerprint collector, I think white version may be better? But Best Buy doesn't offer that.

It has been almost a month now and I have to say I'm impressed. Never had any HP before, for well known heating issues, but this Omen laptop has shut down all my doubts. Cooling system is extremely efficient, you have to tweak a little bit on BIOS and OMEN Hub and then it is perfect!! The 5080 is beyond my expectations, gone are the days of 30 to 65 fPS, any game, any setting I have thrown at it just works flawlessly. As others has reviewed, OLED screen is good but NOT that good, is ok, as me and any serious gamer will use external monitor, same goes for keyboard. Overall, I'm glad I took the decision to buy HP, despite bad reputation due to heating in the past, but it is the past, so good for now, specially in these RTX50XX series drought. Optimus video switcher is a very bad idea, or Idk if it is bad HP implementation but hinders ability to fully setup external monitors properly.

This thing runs CAD and printer software with ease along with the few games that we have. The download speeds are great and the picture is phenomenal. On its own the battery doesn’t last real long but it has a lot to run.

It is a power house of a gaming laptop, overkill even. But when its unplugged its really slow and you can tell it really needs to be plugged in for any type of good performance

    Spontaneous roboots - inadequate cooling

Bought mine off of the HP website directly due a nice sale at the time. Everything worked great out if the box. All Windows upadtaes and drivers installed with zero issues. I even updated the BIOS. Then it was time to game. Loaded up several games and started playing. The laptop fans come on full force and it is loud, but games are playing fine at furst. Then i notice studdering and then a few minutes later, the laptop just shuts downs without warning. I restart the laptop and it boots up fine. I then play another game and aame exact thing happens again. I an now returnibg tgis laptop. It’s defective and does jot have the proper cooling solution to keel it stable. This is a major design glaw by HP. I hope they can fix this issue. I will be looking for a new gaming laptop that doesnt have this problem.

Got this open box, was basically new condition. Performs great overall - 80+ FPS in CP2077 without framegen, with raytracing on at native resolution. Fans do get loud but not obnoxiously so. The RGB lighting and light bar are also really nice, as is the OLED display. Picked the 2TB SKU so I dont have to mess with a repaste, and dropped an additional 2TB in the free slot (which was very easy to do).

I have tried Asus Lenovo gigabyte and now finally the HP’s oled models of the 5080 laptops and i will say by far this one has the best thermals of then all. They all run with 1-2% of each other which means they fall under the margin of error and if i ran the same benchmarks 100 times there’d be cases where each one would beat the other by a frame or a second, so they’re all nearly identical in raw performance. Im pretty sure they all share the same oled panel but i will say the lenovo one for some reason seemed like it looked the best but the hp one here is still gorgeous and looked the same as all the other brands except the lenovo one i mentioned. So if youre going for a 5080 laptop and you plan to use it for long 4-8 hour game sessions I recommend this laptop. As the other models all reach 90-99 degress on the cpu where this one maxed to 87 degrees while gaming on a game like Black myth wukong

OLED screen is wonderful to look at. 5080 ran games at high and HP’s new thermal setup makes the laptop cool to the touch. A little keyboard flex and I don’t know if the trackpad is suppose to be clickable everywhere, but my unit does. No coil whine at high temps. Power adaptor is quite portable. HP did a geat job here.
