Great laptop but HP hamstrings you!!

So about my title... I think the Omen TRANSEND 14 is a fantastic laptop that will be a great option for a lot of people. But the 4070 in this laptop is basically wasted at 50 watts and 65 max with boost. But the 15watt boost is exactly that! Some people think you can turn on the boost and the GPU will run at 65watt now but it is just not the case. It can boost to 65watts but it will not run at 65watts consistently. So HP hamstrings you in this way because this is the only model with 32gb of RAM. If HP made a 4060 version with 32gb of RAM it would be a huge seller for them I believe. the 4070 is underperforming majorly in this laptop. I think HP did this with "cooling & power" in mind but I think it was a mistake. If they set the 4070 to 65watts with 15watt boost to 75watts this laptop would be one of the best options of the year and a huge winner. If you can live with 16gb of RAM then the 4060 version is by far the clear winner. But you do get 32gb of RAM, the Ultra 9, and the 4070 for an extra $300 so it is a good priced upgrade. Just wish the GPU was better. But oh well!! SCREEN - The screen is prolly the best part of the laptop with 2.8k/120hz and OLED. The screen looks really beautiful! The HDR is nice and accurate after calibrating to 500 nits, at least for my eyes. KEYBOARD/TRACKPAD - The keyboard is really nice as well and something new and different that has not been seen with the pudding keycap, which is a nice change of pace these days. The keys are very comfy and accurate to type on. The OMEN software has some decent options to control the RGB but hope they update it with more options. There are 4 zones to control which is nice and they are going to release a "per key" version later this year. The trackpad is large and accurate! Nice and smooth with a good click to it. CHASSIS - The laptop is really well made with no plastic parts. It feels really nice and firm and just has that really premium feel. Don't know what the previous Best Buy review was talking about when they said it was flimsy. It is an all metal design that would be a bit softer then a BLADE 14 but also lighter. I also saw a review of it that said there was significant screen wobble (Andrew Marc David's review on youtube) but mine does not do that at all so hopefully his was an anomaly... It is super light and easy to carry around/transport even with the power brick. I cant get an exact but combined it is about 4.2 pounds which is good for an all-around productivity/gaming laptop. I don't know if best buy will ever sell the white version of this laptop but I got the shadow grey version and it is finger print magnet. But M2 skins does sell a skin for this exact model so I put a skin on mine and it looks great (almost like there is not skin) and is way better on finger prints now. The cassis also has good port selection but not great. With two USB-C ports that are both PD and DP1.4 (the left one is thunderbolt), one HDMI 2.1 port, and two USB-A port that i think are 10gbps. COOLING - Cooling is where I think this laptop beats the G14 hands down. The vapor chamber and exhaust design is better then the G14 because of the screen hinge location. Having that small back lip on the back with rear exhaust that also houses the HDMI port/USB-C port allows the TRANSEND to fully exhaust the heat without hot air bouncing of the hinge like on a G14. It says really cool out of the box but I took my vapor chamber off and put liquid metal on the GPU & CPU. Now the CPU stays around 37 degrees at idle. Even doing an older Cinebench 2023 run mine does not go over 68-70 degrees on the CPU. While idle the GPU is right around 40 degrees and when gaming goes to 64-65 degrees at the most. But before putting liquid metal in it still ran well. The fans can get decently loud if you put them on max but you are also able to create specific fan curves in the OMEN software after 50 degrees. PROCESSOR & RAM - The processor is great and runs as well as an ULTRA 9 can run in a 14 inch chassis. My cinebench run gets over 16000 which is great for a laptop this small. the RAM is good too and runs at a whopping speed of 7467! It is Samsung RAM that is soldered obviously, but still runs good! But I don't know that anyone would be able to tell the RAM speed is high based on pure performance. BAD THINGS/MISSING/WEIRD - There are some bad and maybe weird things with this laptop as well. Obviously the weakened 4070 GPU but there is also no MUX switch. Just my option but all laptops that are marketed for gaming should come with MUX switches. Don't know why this one does not have it. Also, the screen is not G-SYNC for some reason even with the supposed VRR. that is weird to me but the HDMI port in back does connect to the 4070 and you can do G-SYNC with an external monitor. Like I said before, the RAM runs good but I would think it would be better (especially on benchmarks) running at 7467. It gets beat a lot in benchmarks by 5600/5200 RAM. I don't do much battery testing cause I hardly ever use my laptop unplugged so I don't know the battery life real well. I do know that I have mine set for max power no matter what (high performance power plan, set to 120hz no matter what, no battery saver enabled) but I can say it beats my other gaming laptops. I haven't pushed it but I can watch youtube/hulu unplugged for about 5 hour before i need to plug in. WRAP UP - So I would for sure recommend this laptop just maybe the 4060 version if you dont need 32gb of RAM or an ULTRA 9. Dont get me wrong. You can game on on this 4070 at high settings. I play COD on mine all the time at high and still get 75-85 FPS. The GPU runs well just a little under powered.

I came from a Lenovo Legion Slim 14 (16GB) which Bestbuy still has on sale for $1050 as of writing this review. The Legion Slim is an excellent machine, it's got a nice chassis (albeit with a plastic palm rest), a very nice OLED panel, and a high power 4060.. For my use case, which is using the laptop on a lap desk, on the couch, with a controller, the Omen is a considerably better machine. At the same GPU wattage (around 40w), the Omen is much quieter. This is probably thanks to the vapor chamber, vs heat pipe setup the Legion has. Keep in mind, this is not a full power 4070. If you buy this expecting a full bore gaming machine that will max out every modern title at 120fps, this is not the laptop for you. I lock my games to 60fps (with the exception of older titles) to keep frame-times consistent and for that goal, this laptop does great. When it comes to smaller laptops there is always a compromise. HPs goal seems like it was to make a powerful multimedia laptop that has some gaming prowess but isn't a giant 17" 240w desktop replacement. A couple more plusses for the Omen over the Legion Slim: + Edge to edge glass, looks better, easier to clean + Marginally brighter OLED + Considerably better speakers, very good for downward firing + Metal chassis all around + USB C charging @ 28v 5a (unlike the Legion Slim proprietary 20v 7a) this is huge, being able to replace the factory power supply (which is nice quality and not large) down the road with a off the shelf 140w USB C charger is a huge win for the Omen.

So far, so good. This was my first Windows PC purchase in years, I've been a Mac guy for quite some time but was intrigued by Intel's new Ultra series CPUs. When paired with Nvidia's RTX4070 GPU, this thing screams. Love having full sized USB ports along with USB C, and the rear facing HDMI port is a cool addition. Thankfully this PC charges just fine with third party USB C chargers (gonna need 100W or more), so there's no need to lug around HP's weirdly bulky charging cable. No touchscreen but I'm used to that coming from MacBooks. I also wish there was a rear facing USB A port or two, but that's a minor complaint. A 4K screen would've also been nice, but the insane quality of the OLED panel all but makes up for the lack in resolution/pixel density.

I cannot recommend this laptop when you can get the ASUS Zephyrus 14-inch laptop, which features the same OLED screen and a higher wattage 4070 that significantly outperforms this model. If you're considering your options, choose the ASUS Zephyrus 14-inch OLED laptop instead. They are priced similarly, but the Zephyrus definitely delivers better performance.

I love this gaming laptop so much! I am not a heavy gaming myself, but I mostly play Honkai Starrail, Strinova, and Minecraft on the laptop and it works great! The screen looks very crisp and sharp. The colors on the screen really pops and I love that a lot. I can even have a video game, my streaming service (which is OBS), and spotify open all at once and using them all and the laptop doesn't slow down at all! I love how fast and smooth everything works on the laptop and I love the colorful keyboard! I love how easy the keys responds to my gaming experience and I can rely on this laptop for school too! I do Computer Science as my major right now and I feel that my laptop can deal with the programming I would have to do on it. It loads wed pages very fast and it's just the best gaming laptop I have ever had!

I bought this laptop rather than Macbook Air M4 and I am very happy about my final desicion. Gaming with that 4070 mobile GPU is enough for balanced quality and 3K oled screen is perfect. Maybe its 14 inch screen size is a little bit problem in fps games but on the other hand it is very compact for everyday usage. I bought it as an open box and it was cheaper than list price of course. A real bargain device for me.

Not the Gaming Laptop You Want

Beautifully built, with smooth, radiused edges and high build quality. Not quite MacBook Pro level, but near. Gorgeous screen with all the deep OLED blacks you could hope for, and colors that pop. I like the overall style--turn off the RGB and it could easily pass muster in a business meeting. HP wasn't lying when they marketed this as the world's coolest 14" gaming laptop; it stays cool under load, and the fan noise and sound profile is the best in the business, IMO: lower db than others, with zero high-pitched whine. That said, the reason it is so cool is that HP has nerfed the 4070. It only runs at 50W TDP, with a 15W boost available in the Omen Gaming Center. Boost is boost, though, it won't run that constantly; so realistically, you're looking at 48-50W continuous while gaming, which is ridiculously low. My 2023 ASUS Z13 tablet with a 4060 has the same performance (also running at 50W TDP+15), which is super disappointing. Because of the high resolution panel, this is a serious mismatch, IMO; you're not going to be playing at high/ultra in any modern AAA title at native panel resolution. Add to that the fact that the panel might be advertised as VRR, but it does *not* have GSync. Whatever VRR is used here is nonexistant in practice, so you get both low FPS due to the nerfed 4070 and screen tearing due to the lack off proper VRR/GSync. It will run an xternal display with GSync, though, I can confirm 4K @ 120hz w/GSync worked perfectly if you can live with severely reduced graphics quality settings. Also, there is no MUX to run dGPU only, if that matters to you. You can run iGPU only in an Eco mode, which actually is a nice feature, given the totally decent Arc iGPU included. Be aware, also, that at this time (late Feb 2024) USB-C charging is not working. You can only charge the laptop with the included power adpater--no other power adapters work, including non-Omen 14 HP OEM USB-C, USBC PD, etc. In my opinion, HP shouldn't market this as a gaming laptop. A properly powered 4050 will compete well, not to mention a 4060 or 4070 running at a reasonable TDP. Remove the nice RGB implementation and Omen branding, and it's a decent midrange creator or powerful biz/productivity laptop, with very reasonable db's under load and an enjoyable build. To be honest, I'd toss the dGPU and just market it as a productivity machine--it would be a LOT less expensive, and the i9/32GB/Arc combo does fairly fly through productivity tasks.

I was honestly shocked at how much i like this laptop. I was debating between getting this and the g14 because of its top speakers and macbookesque look. I just ended up getting the omen to test it out and fell in love with it right away. It has a nice deep black look, aluminum feel, nice keyboard (for some reason i thought they were jellies, they are hard plastic). My only knock in it is the battery life.

Very nice build. Liked how it stayed cool while gaming on performance mode. Fans are not loud when they run. Love the feeling of the keyboard. Gaming on it isn’t to bad. Was getting about 100Fps on MW3 at native res with DLSS on performance, high settings, and Ray tracing off. On Apex was getting 100 to 120fps. Not bad for a small slim laptop. The only thing i didn’t like is that it does not have G-Sync so you will sometimes get some slight Screen tearing even with VRR turned on. The OLED screen is beautiful though and the colors are on point and can run any game you throw at it. Loved that it’s USBC charging and was able to use my Ugreen 140w usbc charger. I think this laptop is more for people that dont prioritize gaming and don’t mind the lower FPS. More for work, browsing the web, designing, streaming, and etc. This is a small form factor laptop so don’t expect this to be a full powered 4070.

If youre wanting an insane powerhouse, maybe look for something else, but I think this laptop is great for the price so far.

I hate to be that guy but I'ma have to be that guy regarding this amazing device that I bought for 2,000 dollars. I love it and I am sure you will love it as well if you're a fan of tech. Beautiful screen. Long battery life. Ultra core 9 CPU and RTX 4070 GPU. 32 gb RAM. Although this device seems to be the best option at $2,000 dollars it seems like a lot of reviewers are hating on this brilliant device by HP. Don't fall for their bs and try it out yourself. AMAZING speakers by the way. I haven't had this fun with a laptop in such a long time. I guess you can say that this device was only made possible by latest tech in 2024. SAMSUNG charges $3,000 for similar spec laptop ULTRA BOOK 4 with Ultra Core 9 + RTX 4070. I tried that laptop and traded it in for this one and have 0 regrets. Too bad the media has already spun the narrative on this device like its a dud but I promise you they trippin. Thank you HP for creating such an awesome computing experience. Great for music production especially. Way faster and more versatile than the GALAXY book ULTRA 4 which makes me sad because I am a fan of SAMSUNG but its 16 gb of RAM was really limiting my experience with it. This HP OMEN TRANSCEND is the best bang for your buck for an ULTRA CORE 9 +4070 laptop set up :) CHEERS AND HOPE YOU MAKE THE RIGHT CHOICE.

If you have done (even a little bit of) research on laptops based one size you have heard the functionality overall is more poor with a 14 inch vs 15 or 16. The laptops tend to overheat and lack of airflow is not good for performance blah blah blah. AS FAR AS 14 INCH LAPTOPS GO THIS ONE IS THE TOP OF THE MARKET. I feel that it's just the right price where you get fantastic specs (so it performs well enough despite being so small). And it really doesn't get too hot! I like the face scan sign in, I never type my password anymore. Even the keyboard feels nice. Underrated feature the charging port is in the back so you don't have to worry about it being in the way.

I wanted to like this but like many other reviews point out, the RTX 4070 is so underpowered, it is NOT like the standard RTX 4070 laptop part for gaming. This is really more of a content creator's laptop and not a straight up gaming laptop. Sure, you can play games and the control center for the system is quite nice, but even against the HP Victus with the 4070 the raw performance is better on that unit than this unit. However, if you do content creation, the display is excellent, and it has more than enough horsepower to handle anything thrown at it.

Pros: - Little to no fan noise - Laptop stays cool even under load - I like the keyboard more than I thought I would (I have the RGB lighting set to white, and it's excellent). It's no Thinkpad, but it's good enough to not be annoying - CPU performs close to the old i9 13900 - Build quality. I also have the Zephyrus G14, and the Transcend feels about as solid. The black color is gorgeous. Cons - The TDP of the graphics card is very low. This is okay for me because I only do light gaming on my laptop, but I feel like HP should have provided at least one higher power setting that sacrifices heat/fans for higher power - The speakers are a disappointment. They lack range and are very quiet. This is a definite miss for a laptop at this price point (see the Zephyrus G14 for what audio from a laptop should sound like) - No GSync That said, I will keep the Transcend between the Zephyrus G14 and the Transcend. I have an eGPU that I can use at home for serious gaming. My daytime usage is software dev/light gaming, and the fact that I can do my work without the fans continuously kicking in is worth the price. I think HP got close with this model. I'm looking forwards to what a v2 of this laptop looks like next year.

A great laptop, but with really annoying quirks

I purchased this laptop back in March 2024 with the idea of getting a gaming laptop that wasn't the size of a battleship and could be toted around easily. For that, this laptop excels. I know some hardcore gamers have taken issue with the GPU performance since it's only 140W, but I'm able to play all of my favorite games (including recent AAA titles) without issue. The laptop processor and memory performance are excellent as well. The quality of the screen is absolute outstanding. Now for the quirks that make this laptop very annoying to deal with. None of them are dealbreakers, but when you're paying for a top of the line laptop, you expect top of the line performance. First, for whatever reason, this laptop absolutely refuses to connect to a portable USB-C monitor. I've tried multiple USB C cables, multiple portable monitors, and even tried a fresh install of Windows 11 to see if this was a driver issue. Nothing works. I've spent hours with folks at HP Support and they can't figure out why this laptop won't connect to a portable monitor via USB-C. I have to connect a second HDMI to mini-HDMI cable to utilize the second monitor. I works as a work around, but I really shouldn't need a work around with this laptop. It's supposed to be one of the best laptops HP makes. The second issue that I have is with HP Support itself. If you have a problem with their equipment, there is a BUNCH of steps and programs and diagnostic tools that you have to work with to get things to work right. That is IF they manage to get them to work right. There's my USB-C video connection issue, there was an issue I had with the laptop where it wouldn't install the 24H2 update of Windows 11 because the system partition was out of space (even though the partition is the same size on my desktop and it installed 24H2 without issue) and won't update the BIOS for the same reason. Nobody at HP could figure out why these issues were occurring. This laptop has the potential to be an absolute fantastic gaming-on-the-go laptop with a beautiful screen and excellent specs at least on paper. I can't recommend it however, as these annoying issues keep cropping up and can't seem to be addressed by HP.
