Great laptop for those you prefer a non touch screen with a internal optic drive. I would recommend getting a wireless mouse though.

The HP computer is good, with decent speed. Main issue is really the OS (Windows 8), but I can suffer through until 10 comes out in a few months. Another issue is with the keyboard. I don't know if it is the interface with Windows 8 or the laptop itself, but I had an old Toshiba that had same issue with 8 and I put 7 back on it. Overall, great graphics and decent speed. I haven't been on it long enough to see any wireless issues, and I have watched instructional videos for hours on it. Battery life so far seems great, but still early to determine. Overall I would give it a good grade (B) for intermediate users. Great for beginners and average for you super-geeks! LOL!

This computer has been so great for school and all the multitasking I put it through. On my old pc it took ten minutes just to load up 3 or more tabs. On this computer, I regularly have at least 5 tabs open (sometimes over 10). This computer is great for the price, yet once I tried to load up some software that has a high-data usage it couldn't process the load of data streaming through the software. This computer is great for all simple activities, such as school or casual use, but if you're looking for a computer that can process a large feed of data I would recommend saving a little more and purchasing a computer with much higher memory than 6GB.

I've had HP Laptops before, and this one continues to be a good choice. The biggest challenge is Windows 8.1>new human interface older window 7 machine. Also, transferring programs and files was
facilitated with a Best Buy Geek Squad person. Updated to Office 2010, and my 2003 Office files converted o.k.! Smaller screen is
bright and clear vs my old 17" display. Works well with my HP laser
printer!

Great transition laptop with plenty of power. You can do some great gaming on this rig however for the serious gamer you might want something with a little more umph. Average gamer will not disappoint and even played top games at speeds to get you by. This is a best buy for those who can't spend a lot but still need to get the work done!

price paid is good for computer, I am not an avid user so fo rme it works well fo rwhat I need it for. I do notice that sometimes i will loose internet connection than my other computer does. Maybe just me thought since I am constantly moving about. My only gripe is windows 8.1 wants you to log into your microsoft account for everything, (skype) for example, I am not one of those constant connecting people who likes to link every account with another. I would have prfered windows 7 on this computer and then it would have been a 5 start piece of machinery.

Windows 8 is not HP's fault. It takes getting used to, but hopefully windows 10 free upgrade improves things. So, with regard to the hp p-214 dx model, the i7 processor is good(but not too noticeably different from the i5). 6mb is necessary for netflix, google earth, to run at the same time. The keyboard is nice and smooth, The battery is over 5 hours which is what is in the spec. The speakers are typical for laptops. Beataudio speakers and skull kandy of a different laptop are the same The mouse pad is a smooth glide, and clicks easily. The hinged lid is thick enough not to be flimsy or bendable. The response boot time is a little slower due to windows 8. I verified this on another windows 8 computer. This has the dvd drive, and removable battery. Computers are changing to not include these features.
I tried two different Toshiba models before getting this. I like this HP so far. The only concern is the longevity of the power plug, and upgrading ram is hard. This is cheap for the i7 processor family, so it is a good buy. Changing ram could effect warranty. I will wait a year before deciding to change ram. The plastic cover is a little different, but not bad.
I did buy a mouse because I hate all touch pads.
While sitting in the car within 20 minutes of buying the computer, I found a listing on Amazon prime for less, and Bestbuy refunded the difference.

I wanted a laptop that wasn't a gaming powerhouse but would handle day to day tasks with effortless ease. I was amazed when I was able to pick this laptop up at a great price (it was a 2 day sale).
I have had this l for about a month and no issues. It has done everything I have wanted it to do.
My only complaint is the touchpad isn't the best one out there. I have owned many laptops (Dell, Gateway, Mac) and I have not liked any of them, so I am not the best person to rate the touchpad.

This is a great laptop for the price. The i7 processor is great. I use this mainly for taking notes at school and browsing the internet. The beats audio speakers are nice and provide good sound. It runs Windows 8.1 which takes some getting used to if you have never used it before but it nice when you figure it out.

It has good processor but still not enough... Let me thinking why it take so long to run when I turn it on, and sometimes just flash a black screen???
And I don't really like the feeling at the touch of the keyboard, guess has not very good materials since I've got two another HP laptops before and it felt just right and got very good speed.

I bought a couple of these for a couple of my clients. The processor seems pretty good. The only thing I didn't care for was the feeling of the touchpad. Everything else seems to work really well. If you are hooking up an external mouse anyway, its a non-issue.

The i7 processor is very fast and the 6GB RAM seems fine for all of my needs. Sound and video are good and programs upload easily. Computer cost $549.00 at our local Best Buy. We needed a computer fast after a hard drive crash on our Dell Inspiron and this seems to be a good deal for the cost.. So far, everything is working well.

It doesn't suck

So far it doesn't suck... Running Windows 8.1 on a non-touchscreen. It's really not intuitive - the existence of a "lock screen" that appears on start-up, BEFORE the sign in request page & without any indication of what to do to GET to sign in is rather disconcerting - I thought the computer had frozen & only happened on what to do by accident. I also had to shut it down & pull the battery to get out of "settings" as the annoying little pop up telling me where to put the cursor to close the page blocked half the options menu & also blocked the spot I needed to click to leave settings... but that's more operating system problem than computer problem.
The display is nice, it's fast enough that there's no real lag on Facebook, I like the feel of the keys, I don't hate the touchpad (I'm a mouse person) & I LOVE the fact that it has a separate numbers keypad & a cd/dvd slot.

Wanted a second laptop for a backup and for using offsite so it wouldn't have my most sensitive information. Didn't want to pay a lot but wanted very good speed and screen size and resolution. I found both in this HP for a reasonable price. Speakers/sound isn't great but that is my only complaint.

I went from a Celeron to this Intel i7 laptop and I think I am in heaven!
It was easy to use once I got use to the Windows 8.1 system. The only problem I have is my HP printer only goes up to Windows 7 so I am still working on getting the Windows 8.1 driver and software. I am so glad that I bought this computer when it was on sale. So keep your eyes open for the next sale and buy yourself one. You will love it as much as I do!
