Nothing from HP is ever a disappointment. This is no exception. This HP Pavilion desktop computer is a great home PC that has great specs at a decent price point. The Ryzen 5 series processor is a great choice for this one. Setting it up was only a matter of minutes. (Of course windows updates take awhile to finish) The included keyboard and mouse are good quality, and the PC came loaded with Windows 10 without a lot of the “bloatware” you’ll find from other manufacturers. After finishing the updates, I was pleasantly surprised with how fast this PC ran. Despite not having an SSD, the large included hard drive has more than enough room for any programs, media, and documents plus it is also fairly quick. The system overall runs quite well. It’s not going to be your best bet for a gaming PC, but for the role of a family PC or in a business/work environment, it really does shine as a great pick. It has more than enough CPU power, RAM (12GB), and hard drive space (1TB) than most users will ever need. The size of the PC is also attractive, with it being small enough to fit on a desk without taking up the entire desk. It comes preloaded with an antivirus program and different free trials of various software, all of which are great for someone looking to just pick up a simple PC. Overall I’m very pleased with this new Pavilion release and I’d recommend it to anyone looking for a good quality PC with “no frills” that won’t break the bank despite being a very strong performer.

Great desktop for productivity and light gaming

The setup of this desktop is very straightforward, after you get through your basic Windows 10 setup, you can hop right in and play some older AAA titles (I tested on GTA V, Civ V, and COD: Black Ops II). Being a budget gaming desktop with no dedicated GPU, be aware that your frame rate target will probably be 30FPS at 1080P. I did some light testing on the titles listed above (as I own them already and it was very convenient). GTA V: medium everything, 1080P and consistently 30 FPS in high action sequences but slower scenes were a clean 60, very little jitter, minimal lag. Civilization V: everything set to the highest possible settings, 1080P (no real FPS as it's turn based strategy), played a save that has over 360 turns on a very large map with no issues at all! Worked perfectly! Black Ops 2: 1080P, 45-50 FPS consistently (single, multi, and zombies), no lag, works great! There is plenty of room for a lower end graphics card but, be aware you may need to upgrade the power supply with some of the mid-range cards as it is only 180W. By no means is this a serious, hardcore gaming powerhouse but, if you want to casually play a first person or RPG (newer or old) you won't be disappointed! The casing is clean and largely unassuming but the textured front panel gives it a nice distinction from older desktops. Keyboard and mouse are fairly basic, I'm using them to write up this review and they're not bad. I did use them in an attempt at playing Black Ops 2 with a keyboard and mouse, they were decently responsive... I'm just not very good at that game. The machine has a good selection of ports, I really appreciate the USB-C on the front for connecting things such as: phones, GoPros (or other cameras), or directly to my laptop. There are also 2 USB-A 3.1 ports on the front, accompanied by a full size SD reader and a headphone out! Very convenient so you don't have to reach around the back to get at the 6 addition USB-A ports (4 3.1 and 2 2.0). The wifi is okay for browsing or having the desktop above the desk or in the open but, as I found out with my setup, even if the desktop is only feet away from the router under a desk, there is a chance for it to severely slow down (hard wiring is what I did and would recommend). I was pretty surprised to discover this unit has built in BlueTooth 4.2, very convenient for wireless headsets, mice, and keyboards! Overall, I would definitely recommend this desktop to someone like myself who is looking for a machine that can dabble in Photoshop Premier, play decently demanding games at good frame rates and great resolutions, a lot of on-board storage for those projects, and have the ability to flawlessly handle 20+ browser windows open, 2 screens, 4 or more spreadsheets, Netflix, and a few Word documents open. Great machine for the price and very easy to use!

    Economical multimedia pc

I would guess that if you're looking at this pc you are not the serious gamer who is looking for a dedicated graphics card, solid state drive and more powerful power supply. I think this desktop pc is one to be considered for those looking for an economical, multimedia pc. It will be a great option for family members looking to surf the web, watch Neflix, perform personal finance tasks or some gaming options that are not requiring heavy graphics capabilities. Booting up the desktop for the first time seemed to take a bit longer than I expected. After that, it was the typical Windows 10 setup process. There is one step that asks the user if they want to set up a PIN for logging in and this is optional even though the "skip" button is not readily on this step. This desktop contains apps such as HP Recovery Manager, HP Support Assistant, HP Games Powered by WildTangent, Netflix, McAfee LiveSafe (30 days trial), and more. One will find plenty of ports available in the front and rear of the desktop that include 9 usb (6 usb 3.1), full size SD, a single hdmi and Bluetooth 4.2 to support wireless accessories. A wired keyboard and mouse are included with the pc which are functional, but one could upgrade for a minimal cost. This desktop is a good option for those looking for family, business or light gaming pc. It provides a good AMD Ryzen 5 2400G processor with built in AMD Radeon Vega graphics. Storage will be more than ample with a 1TB hard drive and it also still provides the convenience of a dvd/cd burner. Weigh all of these options at an economical price against other models that may have dedicated graphics or a solid state drive. This HP desktop is a fairly compact pc with an appealing matte black, diamond faced front design which should serve the typical computer user well.

Excellent value in a basic desktop

The HP Pavilion 590-p0044 is a nicely designed desktop computer with one caveat when it comes to expansion which is understandable at this price point. The AMD Ryzen5-2400G processor is speedy and fully capable of handling just about any basic processing need on par with mid-range i3 and i5 Intel chips. Browser, office suite and any general computing needs will, of course, zip through with flying colors. I was even able to do some light gaming (Minecraft at 1920x1080-30-60fps), Photoshop and a few surprisingly complex 3D renders with impressive speed. If you're a hardcore gamer, you're probably not even reading the reviews on this desktop but for everyday work and play this configuration will get it done. The 12GB of RAM is a comfortable amount and will get you through a lot of multitasking right up to and including running one or two reasonably sized virtual machines if that's your thing. Addition of a graphics card in the x16 PCIe slot (also includes a x1 PCIe slot - see photo) would be a nice upgrade for gaming and graphics work but be careful as the 180W power supply that comes with this desktop will need an upgrade to power it. I'm a little spoiled by modern laptops with SSD storage. The relative speed of an SSD makes the 1TB HDD in this desktop seem a little sluggish (another easy upgrade). The drive also makes a bit of noise but honestly very little. I only notice because I'm so used to the silence of the SSD in my laptop. The tradeoff of being tied to your desk with a desktop is easy upgradeability and a lot more ports. This desktop is practically covered with the latter including an SD card reader, 6 USB 3.1 ports (2 front and 4 back), 2 USB 2.0, HDMI, VGA, audio, ethernet in the back and even a USB-C port in the front. You shouldn't run out of places to plug things in. The included keyboard and mouse were also a nice surprise for me. They're not very flashy and the mouse is basic with the two standard buttons and a scroll wheel, but they have a surprisingly nice feel. Overall, this is a solid and attractive desktop computer (I like the subtle geometric design on the front) at a good price point that will power through just about anything the average user could throw at it. It also presents good possibilities for upgrade to handle more strenuous workflows or gaming if you're also willing to shell out for an upgraded power supply. My 6-year-old daughter also wants me to tell you that she thinks "it's pretty cool", so there's that too.

    Pretty Good But Not Great

So, keep in mind that if you need lightening speed as a hard core gamer or maybe a coder, this is probably not the computer for you. For instance, I noticed that its boot up speed is not really fast, but the preloaded McAfee anti-virus may have something to do with this. It can be uninstalled and the use of Windows may be better. However, if you are using this in the day to day business of life for light gaming, internet, email, small business, research and homework then everything is all good. I am a desktop user in my office and my home office and enjoy using a computer in this way since you can attach a nice big monitor or multiple monitors. I love that this HP model has kept some of the oldie but goodie desktop favorites: the internal DVD/CD- rom player (drive), and multiple USB and various-sized SD Card reader ports on the front of the machine for ease and comfort of the user. Also, this is a slim line version of a desktop and is so easy to put under or even on top of a desk or work surface. Not so great was the inclusion of the wired mouse and keyboard. Now I know that was not part of the deal, but really HP who uses wired anymore when wireless is so much easier, kind of a waste since I noticed most reviewers immediately replaced those items. More pros- only 5 to 10 minutes to set up with the quick setup guide that was included.

I’ve been a Mac user for the past 7-8 years and was satisfied. I don’t game and I’m not a heavy computer user and found the ease of use of Macs appealing for my family. However, over the last few years, we’ve dealt with several issues with our iMac desktop. These are unusual issues and not indicative of Apple’s quality (which, in my opinion, is still top notch) but more of outside issues that kept affecting our computer. Enter PC in 2018. My last experience with owning a new PC was probably 10 years ago or more. I was pleasantly surprised to find that PCs have moved away from the 300 “free” programs and useless games, fluff software, trial this, trial that and have become much more of a turn-key product. There were only a handful of pre-installed programs that I got rid of and it didn’t take hours to track them all down and delete them. As far as the actual performance goes, this PC has performed flawlessly for my needs. Light computing and occasional media are easily handled by this PC. I especially like the ability to use my 50” 4K Vizio TV as a monitor and this computer does support a 4K image along with 4:4:4 full RGB color (8-bit). The images are honestly incredible. I will add that the PC did recommend a Windows update one day which it began when I shutdown the computer the night after getting it. When I went back to it the next day it was still stuck on the update progress screen at 9%. I did have to do a manual shutdown (hold the power button) for it to shut off. After that it finished the update fine and I’ve had no issues since. So far, I’m in love again with PCs. Especially now that I’ve seen how the PC side of the aisle has caught up in several ways to Apple in ease of use, user friendliness, and intuitive controls. I will update this review should any issues arise.

    Ryzen to the top

Hello everyone, I received my HP Pavilion Desktop with a bit of skepticism , however its AMD Ryzen 5 processor has handled any task I've thrown at it with no issues. Recommended: yes. Actually, in my short experience with this PC , I would say this computer is perfect for any scenario requiring fast reliable equipment; thus making this system a great option for everyday tasks in a household. In fact, I was mostly interested in a machine that could perform as a sort of central hub at home; something that could be used by any member of my family while allowing me to manage all my house expenses at the same time. Another task assigned to this machine is to keep all the shared data in my home network like videos, pictures, documents organized and ready for use anytime. The most interesting surprise in this PC is how the integrated Vega graphics handle games. Honestly, I didn't consider gaming as an option at first; but I gladly found that graphics performance is quite incredible on this computer. Tried a myriad of games on it and all of them worked flawlessly. Still not a replacement for a high end gaming rig; but for a central multimedia and household hub, this HP desktop adds light gaming as a viable option for entertainment. Once again, I think this PC is great for the price and specs and I would recommend it for anyone needing a powerful, fast, and reliable machine for regular tasks at home. The AMD Ryzen processor is very capable while the graphics performance is impressive for this type of computer. Thanks for reading.

I recieved my HP Pavillion 590-p0044 a couple of weeks ago and opened the box and was surprised at the compact size of this tower pc. With an AMD Ryzen 5 2400G Processor, AMD Radeon Vega 11 Graphics, 12gb DDR4 SDRAM, 1TB hdd, DVD-Writer, Wireless LAN, and Bluetooth. There are 2 usb type 3, 1 usb type C, sd card reader, headphone jack, DVD/CD drive and power button on the front of the tower. I like that the power button has a light built into it and that it doesn't have a huge light bar like my older HP tower has. But would have liked if there was still a status light. The back of the tower has the microphone and audio connections along with an hdmi, vga, 2 usb, 4 usb type 3, ethernet and the power plug. There are also 4 accessory bays for expansion. I have another HP Pavillion P9 tower and this HP Pavillion 590 is about 2 1/2 inches shorter and 5 inches shallower but only a 1/4 inch narrower. The smaller size is good and I like that the width is about the same as this should help keep it running cooler then the older slimline towers. So far the 590 fans don't make much noise at all with my basic everyday use like internet, some simple pc games as well as watching movies.Even a McAfee scan didn't cause any issues. But I haven't really pushed the tower hard with any real pc games. File transfer from a portable external hdd via usb 3 connection was as fast as expected. Had 10 tabs open in EDGE while playing a Movie and RAM usage was around 75% with no lagging or any other issues. I use a 24" Insignia tv as my monitor as it saves some space with built in speakers and well the ability to use it as a TV. I had some setup issues that were more likely caused by the tv or hdmi cable? But the tv would show a 640x480 resolution and I could not change it in Win10 settings. After unplugging the tv and powering back on it would go to the correct 1980x1020 resolution. The included keyboard is of a compact design but with full size key layout with a nicely sized numeric key pad. The mouse has a nice low profile with a overall size that is comfortable to use. Although they are usb wired. Start up was fairly smooth with the typical Win10 updating that thankfully was not very long. McAfee LiveSafe (trial) is included and so far doesn't seem to cause any issues with performance. Dropbox is included with an offer of 1 year of 25gb of space if your new to Dropbox. If your looking for a compact Tower PC for everyday use with really good specs and room to grow the HP Pavillion Desktop 590-p0044 is a great option.

This is a good budget desktop for a college student or someone who has a business out of their home. It is not the best for graphics heavy games, but it powerful enough to do some heavy computing. The website said it has two HDMI ports, but it does not (I did ask them to fix that), so if that is something you are really looking for you will want a different computer. It is also a good size for a home office or dorm setting.

Not top of the line but I needed something quick but with decent specs. Not a lot of upgrading available, you can add a second hard drive and swap ram out for more but you can't add to what's already in it as there are no more slots. But for downloading music and movies and managing my home network, this seems to be ok so far. Easy set up. And it does allow for dual monitors. Since I added the 2nd hdd, I may use that to dual boot windows 8 if I run into something windows 10 won't let me run. So I'm pretty pleased with this overall.

This was purchased to replace my husband's desktop. It is much faster than his previous HP. Easy to setup but I always add Start10 to make the start menu like Windows 7. So much easier to maneuver. The memory and hard drive are more than he needed but it makes it fast. Some bloatware but not too bad.

Bought this computer to replace an old i7 that went down. I don't game, but yet I do want some decent speed. This computer has excellent speed. I was unsure about purchasing this computer with a Ryzen 5 processor, but am really glad I did. Not only is this computer faster than I ever imagined, it is super quiet. This is a huge bonus for me, as I hate noisy computers. When this computer arrived, I was shocked at how small the box it came in was. This is kind of a small computer, without being a super small desktop computer. I have to admit, it fits nice under my desk, due to it's small size. This computer has all the jacks. I plugged in my HP 27 inch monitor, using the HDMI port, and it looks terrific. I honestly feel, for a computer that is not a gaming computer, this is about as good as it gets. If you are considering a new computer and are not going to game with it, this is a terrific computer to consider. I would purchase it again in a second.

This is a reasonable PC. It's not expandable. and doesn't have two HDMI ports (as advertised). One HDMI and one VGA. Power Supply is so cheap, I'm fearful to add a video card. CPU and memory run under 70%, but my Disk is often at 100% which causes copying files to be very slow.

This computer is a lot faster than my old one, and does everything I need it to. However, it has had a couple of things happen in the first week I had it. The biggest issue was that it froze up with what looked like a kaleidoscope of colors on the screen. I finally got the task manager to work and got it shut down. It hasn't done that since. Other than that, I'm happy with the computer, and since it has a good warranty on it, I'm not very concerned with whatever caused its "hiccup".
