Customers are impressed with the Spectre x360's fast performance, lightweight design, and long battery life. They appreciate the responsive keyboard and trackpad, as well as the overall build quality. However, some users have concerns about the fan noise, limited port selection, and the price.

This extremely elegant computer is amazing. Fast, pen is useful during lectures to add notes to ebooks that I'm using on openstax. I also wrote some notes on word. The pen reacted to every stroke. Since I write so tiny i had to write out my words a bit bigger. No issue. It's rare when finger print reader recognizes my finger. I dont care much about it since I never had such feature. I'm so used to using a password. Speakers are loud at least to me. I also dont use it in crowded locations though. Battery is long lasting I can go days without charging. I used it to do my hw only. Screen is vibrant and the colors pop. Touchscreen has not been an issue. Love that I can read my book and change pages with a swipe of a finger. Computer is also ultra light weight.
Now this laptop does require ventilation or else it will get extremely hot. If it gets to that point u will hear that fan blow like there is no tomorrow. Once again, not an issue to me.
It also attracts skin oils on the outside shell like u see on the picture. Once again not an issue to me.

I am writing this review after using the computer only for a few days. And, Best buy doesn't seem to allow revisions - but I will add comments if issues crop up later...
Anyway, on to the review.
The computer has been flawless so far. First, the boxing / packaging show a very high quality. Included is a stylus and a nice sleeve. The computer itself is quite elegant with the brushed bronze aluminum top and bottom case.
The screen is Gorilla glass. It is glossy and can reflect light. However, it is very bright, good colors, and wide field of view. I prefer glass to matte, as I find the matte screens seem to diffuse the backlighting. That seems to make the matte screen look dimmer.
The keyboard is backlit with 2 levels, keys have good travel, and no apparent flex to keyboard / palm rest. Looks to be full size keyboard and easy to type on. But, the marking on some of the special character keys (. " * ' ) are very small and hard to see in comparison to letters / numbers.
Trackpad works well, and even has settings to go back and use 1 finger scrolling if you prefer.
With 16 GB ram, and the I7 core 8565 processor and SSD, this computer is fast. Cold boot to fully up is around 15 seconds. Of course, that can vary depending on what programs you have loaded. Did I mention fast? Can run games, multiple programs, surfing, etc.
The 512GB SSD should provide enough storage for most users, but you can also add a micro SD card, and install programs to that.
This is the 4K display model computer. However, I do not see the advantage of that resolution on a 13.3" display. Running a 2160 display at 300%, looks the same to me as running at 1080 at 150% - and I would think makes the graphics adapter work less.
As far as ports....It is nice to have 2 USB "C" Thunderbolt ports. But, one downfall is that there is only 1 standard USB port. There should have been at least 2 for coolers, wireless mice etc.
There is a headphone port, and sound is quite good utilizing a quality set of headphones. And there is included software to customize the sound.
There are 2 other minor items that could have been better (not a deal breaker by any means) 1- the power button is on the back left corner, and could have been positioned on front bezel; and 2 - no "cutout" to easily open the laptop.
Another nicety though is the addition of a camera switch to shut off the camera.
Overall, although a bit on the higher price side, this computer offers an elegant looking, and excellently performing laptop for the price.

Awesome Laptop - Make Sure to Update ASAP

I've been looking at the HP Spectre x360 for a while now due to my ancient HP taking a while to load. I had done a lot of research on this laptop for weeks and found that some people had issues with fans, heat, QA issues, track pad issues, etc. That made me nervous, but I felt confident buying it from best buy because of their awesome return policy.
Upon first boot up of this laptop, it got really hot. The fans were kicking in on max, we're full time, and were REALLY loud. It was like this even while staring at the home screen for 10 minutes, yet alone running any programs. I was nervous because many reviews have mentioned this issue. DO NOT FEAR! After I set it up, I immediately went to the windows update and updated to the newest windows 10 and also updated everything in the list. This helped a little, but when I opened HP Support Assistant (HP's update software) there was a BIOS update along with many processor and misc updates. After I did all these updates, there's no issues with fans or heat even under heavy load. Sometimes the fans kick on, but they're on quiet and not very noticeable. It looks like HP fixed this issue with an update, thank you HP!
-Now that the fans are normal, this computer is a BEAST! It turn on super fast, and if you hold your finger on the fingerprint reader, it will breeze right through the login screen and go strait to the home page. It can go from a full shutdown to google chrome in about 14 seconds which is crazy! About 3 second from sleep.
- The internet is 2x2 that supports a/c bands so it really breezes through big downloads if you have the bandwidth to support it. I believe that makes it 2x faster than standard laptops since it creates 2 connections.
- The SSD is awesome, very fast and plenty of storage for your average consumer.
- The display is 4k, which being on a 13 inch may be a little overkill, but if you ever look closely on your screen you'll notice the detail. In order to use HDMI out you'll need an adapter. I got a cheap one online, just be sure that it supports 4k at 60hz to still get your 4k image onto a TV that won't make your videos look like trash. 4k background look really nice on this device!
- Battery life is interesting. If you have the laptop on full performance and full brightness while actively doing homework, the battery life seems like it's around 2.5 hours. However I've often kept this beast on power saving with about 50% brightness and it lasts easily 8 hours during homework. I don't notice any performance issues with homework activities on this power savings setting. It basically makes this quad core i7 a quad core i5, which is plenty for what I need - while still having the i7 8th Gen speeds when I need them for gaming.
- This will play most games pretty well, just keep in mind you probably won't get 60fps on games like battlefield 5. The i7 8565u is much faster than the i7 8550u from my experience first hand. The fact that this has an integrated Intel graphics 620 doesn't impact me too much. If you're a hardcore gamer you're not going to want any notebook, not even this expensive beast. You'll need to get an actual gaming laptop with the processor, seperate GPU, fans, lots of room for these components, and the ability to upgrade down the road.
-The laptop is a fingerprint magnet, but most are now-a-days. The TouchPad has Synaptics instead of Precision so for some this was a deal breaker. Not for me, I notice that scrolling is fine for my purposes. It would've been nice to have Precision, since windows will continuously update this as time progresses vs. with the Synaptics we're at the mercy of HP for updates to drivers.
Posiden Blue: for those who think they're fixed on the Ash Silver like I was - the Posiden Blue is amazing! It still has a very similar rose gold bezel that you liked about the Ash Silver color. The rose gold is a slightly more silver tone of the gem cut design than the Ash Silver color. Still looks amazing and is not silver by any means. The top of this laptop is a very dark blue, basically black unless you catch it in the right light. The keyboard face and bottom of this laptop are the same shade of super dark blue. Now that I have this color, I actually prefer it over the Ash Silver since it still has the features I liked about Ash Silver (rose gold gem cut design) but it's more mature. Posiden blue is the way to go!
Pros:
-Super fast turn on and sign in
-Super fast processor
-Beautiful gem cut design
-Comfortable keyboard
-4k display looks great
-Speakers sound amazing
-Fans are quiet (after update)
-Thermals are nice now (after update)
-Battery life in power saving mode is great for a 4k display
-Posiden Blue looks awesome
Cons
-The fact you have to update the software to fix the fan/thermal issue
-Fingerprint magnet
Check out the Spectre x360 in stores and see what you think. Don't be scared by the Posiden Blue color since it's likely not on display. It looks great and it's definitely not silver.
I'd strongly reccomend this laptop and it's well worth the $1500! Best laptop in the price range for sure.

I've only used the laptop for about a week so far, so keep that in mind. (I wasn't able to even take it out of the box the first month.)
I am not at all tech savvy, but was able to set it up myself without even asking friends for help. I used to pay Geek Squad to set up computers for me when I got a new one, and to transfer data. Now Dropbox makes that easy. I was prompted to try it, so did and it saved me lots of time and money as it was free. (I was also asked if I wanted to try the software AC Mover, but it would have been more time consuming, difficult and costs about $50) I transfered all my files, documents and photos fast and easy. Dropbox will be quite handy in the future also. For instance, I was thinking of upgrading my Microsoft Office to the monthly fee version to have access from other places. But because Dropbox helped me transfer everywhere and will allow me to access from all my other tech, I'll save the money and keep my old Office for now and might even end up using this in place of Office on day.
Upon opening, HP prompts you to sign into your Microsoft account so you can transfer all your browsing history and favorites and preferences here and to multiple places like your iPad and phone for free. How very nice. I can't for the life of me remember my Microsoft password, so thank goodness I have the fingerprint reader.
I love the design of this laptop. I needed light weight because I had tennis elbow from my old 17" laptop. It will be so much less cumbersome on the airplane. Let's hope the light weight isn't a vulnerability to breakage. I'll be able to carry it more discretely in bags that don't shout laptop bag.
I like that there's a button to keep my video camera off, as once in a while I'll accidentally see my mug and scare myself on my other devices. No problem here.
The electric cord seems most durable with it's braided cover and not at all bulky at the plugs. I can still plug in USB, the new smaller form and headphones. And the AC plugs into the angled corner, so it's easier on the plug and the plug gets less tangled as i move the laptop on and off my lap.
The battery is fantastic. I charged it once, and I've used it for ten days on that charge. (And I'm a social media addict.) The factory settings are just right for sleeping and turning off.
The touch screen is handy, and the ability to turn it and fold it like an ipad is more useful than I expected.
I know it's silly, but I really like the way it looks. The light up keyboard helps me to place my fingers in the dark to type, the color is just different enough to be unique and the sleeve it comes with is nice protection in bags.
I opted for the 4K hoping that it would be useful in photo editing. So far it really seems to be more accurate color than a previous laptop with extensive calibrating.
I haven't used the pen yet.
I wanted the latest i7 core, the 16G/512GB and solid core now for speed, but also because I want to buy the best I can afford in options in hope I won't need to replace any time soon due to being outdated.
The only thing I worry might not be great is the mouse pad, though it might be adjusting from my old one to my new as I catch myself accidentally touching it with my other hand. Come to think of it the response in the touch screen has been similar, I'll try to see if that's due to me resting it in a way the screen is touched by my leg, chair arm or pillow, etc.
Though I needed smaller, I will miss a larger screen for my old eyes while reading and because I like to use my laptop as a spare television by putting it on the coffee table in a room without a TV. I'll keep the old laptop for that purpose.
I gave four stars because I'm being cautious as it's so new and because this one was a couple hundred dollars more expensive than other brands with the same specs and similar design. (Though I must admit, something made me spend the extra dollars when it went on sale.) I'll try to remember to update this review.

Looks and works slick

I bought this laptop on a good deal over a year ago and wanted to wait to give a review. Before I had a clunky hp probook from 2014, so you can imagine the upgrade this was. The Poisedon Blue looks even more slick in person than online pictures show, and the design is spectacular. It's incredibly lightweight (I carry my laptop to and from work every day) and the leather pouch it comes with is a nice bonus for transport in a backpack or satchel.
The back corners are slanted in a way that they're useable. Whoever designed this really did a nice job. The back slanted corners have the power button (nice location - easy to find while being discrete for better design) and an extra USB-C plugin. For an ultra-thin laptop, you get 2 USB-C plugins (I use one for charging at my desk and one to connect to an extra monitor) and a USB-A (I use for my mouse).
It has done very well my first year with it, is very fast on startup with the solid state drive, and is a great workhorse if you need something more portable. The screen can light up very bright if you want, and the battery life is excellent even a year out, I have not noticed it waning. It has a long battery life, and has worked well for movies, etc.
The pen works fairly well and feels good in your hand. There is a place for it in the leather pouch the computer comes with, so I have never lost it. I like being able to turn it into a tablet and use as a touchscreen for casual use.
Once in a while the touch pad has trouble scrolling, but on resetting the touchpad or restarting it works fine again. I've heard this is common with hp laptops that they do not make the best touchpads. Otherwise it has really been the perfect laptop.

Had to replace my workhorse Sony Vaio after 6 solid years. I took my time and shopped around and compared a TON of different options, feature loads, builds, etc. I finally settled on this HP Spectre and boy am I glad I did. The lightweight makes it a perfect mobile option (which was important for me). The touchscreen is extremely responsive and super sharp. The tablet mode is good (not a huge fan of any of the convertible designs with the exposed keyboard, but that was not really a factor in my purchase). The speed and versatility of this model are excellent. The backlit keyboard is a great touch. I was worried about the smaller screen stepping down from a traditional 15", but after a couple days, you do not even notice. The battery life is decent, but it could be better. Other than that, absolutely no complaints here. This laptop really is a complete package, and very feature rich. Overall, I am quite pleased and look forward to using this machine for a long time.

To be honest, I was initially contemplating to what I should buy among the three brands Asus, HP and Dell. I ruled out Dell and went to my local Best Buy couple of times to decide the final buy. Asus didn't have the specs I wanted in a 13-14" laptop. I saw some very good reviews for HP. So, I finally I bought two 13.3" HPs as a gift for my niece and nephew as one is an undergraduate in ECE and the other is doing commerce and doing C.A. on the side.
It boots up very fast in 3-4 seconds. I love the bamboo ink pen that came along with the product. I did find some fan noise. But as another reviewer said, I immediately went to HP support and updated the BIOS and other windows updates. After that I didn't hear any noise. I am not a gaming person although my nephew loves to play. I told him if he plays too much and screws the laptop, I am not buying him another one! So far no complaints. Its light weight and runs smoothly. I mainly bought it for work/studies.
I am very happy that I got one good deal for one and for the other not! After I bought the first one(ash silver, beautiful color BTW), I saw $500 drop on the blue model. I think it was 24 hr flash sale and I immediately got the blue one. Best Buy rep Alex was very nice and helpful. I never had any bad experience with my Best Buy. I definitely recommend this.

This has been the best laptop I have owned. I usually am an Apple guy but with the business I’m in a PC was better suited. I was a bit skeptical buying a PC for the first time in a decade or so but this laptop has throughly impressed me.
The speed is spectacular for such a compact unit and the tablet mode is very accurate and useful for my work.
The 4K display is very crisp and colors have great depth.
Beyond the amazing performance of this laptop, the design is just plain beautiful and in my opinion cooler to look at than any Mac I’ve seen.
I highly recommended this laptop to anyone that wants a fast, portable and elegant PC that out performs a Mac for a better price.

I bought it when it was on sale and it's a steal at the price of $1049.99 and it was cheaper than most other laptops that are a level below this one. The design in stunning and the diamond cut edges elevate the laptop looks. The poseidon blue with gold accents looks better in my eyes than the Ash silver one.
The laptop is blazing fast with the 8th gen Core i7 processor and 512 GB SSD. Fingerprint and Facial recognition are both available with Windows Hello; setting up was a breeze and the laptop boots up very fast. Unlocking the laptop with face recognition or fingerprint takes a second or so (not measured accurately).
The screen is gorgeous and the 4K resolution is awesome. Brightness levels are pretty good too and I keep it at 20% to 30% most of the times unless the sun shines very bright. The screen is glossy and could reflect at times but that's a trade off for a touch screen.
Audio quality is good and the built in B&O soundbar near the hinge helps. Sound modes like Movies, Music and Voice are available and work great; even with those effects turned off the laptop gets loud and audio is good. Plugging in headphones didn't impact the volume levels or audio quality.
Battery lasts anywhere between 7 hours and 8 hours depending on the usage. Battery life of the HD version of this laptop would be far better but about 8 hours with 4K screen is nothing to scoff at.
Webcam is decent and a slider on the right side helps lock/use it. The slider kills off the webcam and the laptop doesnt even show the webcam when locked. Skype videos were decent but a bit grainy.
No HDMI port on this one but can connect external displays through Thunderbolt.
Overall a great laptop if bought during sale and a good one at full price.

This laptop is the best laptop I have ever owned. There was not many reviews when I bought it but it was so classy that I had to have it. HP went the extra step in every area with the laptop. The memory, Solid State Drive, 4k screen, keyboard and webcam are all top notch. There were complaints about the fan being loud on some models but this model is great. The one and only thing I am not completely impressed with is the touch pad. Other than that everything is great.

When my 1st-generation Surface fell and broke, I was heartbroken -- one, because I loved that little workhorse and two, because Surfaces are too freaking expensive to replace.
Amen for the HP. This is actually better than the Surface -- incredible speed, superb graphics, large hard drive, and it doesn't have that awful kickstand Microsoft doesn't understand we all hate.
The smaller size on this one makes it light -- lighter than the Surface I had. It's less prone to breakage simply due to the design. The sound quality -- impressive. The screen resolution -- perfect. And HP has paid attention to details on this one. The power cord is covered with a woven fiber. There is a protective sleeve that comes with the machine. And you get a pen; not you have to buy a pen separately.
The best part? I got a pretty serious upgrade in hard drive space and processor without having to pay $2K or more for it. This right here is Microsoft's competiton for the Surface. From what I've experienced, HP wins.

A quick glance at this laptop, and you will be awe struck by it's design. Upon picking up the laptop you will appreciate it's craftsmanship. Much like a Swiss watch the design, beauty, and craftsmanship coalesce in to one of the best Ultrabooks made.
I originally purchased the HP Spectre without the UHD display when it was on sale for 1249.99. Twelve days later the UHD display model was on sale for 1249.99, and the Non-UHD display went up to 1499.99. I quickly exchanged the machines for the UHD model.
Both are same in form, and function. I really don't find any negatives with the machine. I enjoy the upgraded i7 Whiskey Lake's raw power, and battery sipping architecture. The 16GB of RAM is a much needed upgraded from my previous machines 8GB. I love the speedy SSD drive, and was pleasantly surprised this machine ships with 512GB.
The only negative I can really mention is the lack of ports, but even then it's competition suffers from the same problem. The HP Spectre adds one additional port in the form of microSD which the Lenovo's are missing. The other issue is the palm rest loves to leave smudges.
The HP Spectre even comes with a cheap sleeve, which is a nice touch. Just make sure to grab it out of the bigger box the laptop comes in, as I almost missed it and threw it out.

Was looking for a device that is sleek but powerful that I can take on a plane, as I travel a lot. Initially, I went with a Surface Pro 6. I used it for a month and really tried to like it but ultimately decided that it doesn't function well as a tablet and was uncomfortable to use as a laptop. I ended up returning the Surface and expectedly the sales rep asks if I would like something else. When I tell him what I'm looking for, this HP Spectre is the first one he points me to. I was immediately taken by the look of it. I was intrigued but wanted to do some research before I made the purchase. After doing so for a few days (couldn't find much info -- ) i just figured what the hek, I'll take a shot at it.
I have to say this device is absolutely amazing. It features stunning aesthetics, a bright and vivid screen with 4K Display, and is lightweight for ultimate portability. Performance wise it is insanely fast (boot to start is 12 seconds, if that), the specs speak for themselves. Overall it has been an absolute joy to use. It is comfortable to work on and watch movies and even play video games (to an extent). The speakers are solid for the size of the device (though I tend to use headphones most of the time or external speakers). When reviewing this machine, many users complained that it got hot, but so far I haven't noticed. All in all, I'm quite happy with this purchase.

I love everything about this laptop. I have bought multiple chromebooks and cheaper computers over the years. I got sick of nothing being compatible with them. I decided to suck it up and spend a few bucks and this is the one I got. I have had it a few months now and still get excited every time I take it out of it's case. It's fast, thin, and has everything I wanted. I can tell you though I very rarely use the pen but I still love the idea it has it just in case one day it comes in handy. The design of it is so pretty too I tell my husband all the time, how sexy it is! It is probably my favorite purchase all year. So if you have the opportunity to buy one of these BUY IT I promise you wont regret it.

I love this laptop! Blazing fast and super capable. 13.3” is the perfect size for my use, it is very lightweight and portable. The hardware is absolutely top notch and it is loaded with great features. The 4K display is bright and gorgeous to look at and watch video on. I researched many different 2 in 1’s before deciding on this HP and I am beyond thrilled with my choice. It handles everything I do with ease, and it’s easy to bring along anywhere I’m going. Highly recommend.
