The I-5-11400h is a great processor, and built in support for undervolting now in Omen command center sets HP above most other OEMS for intel anyways. The battery life in this guy is amazing best off any gaming laptop I've tested ~6hours streaming youtube on battery saver. The speakers are good for a budget option The RTX 3050 is good to be good for running most games at high settings in 1080p, but in the most demanding games your going to be limited by only having 4gb of videocard ram and have to use lower settings. Especially if the game doesn't have DLSS. If you stress over thermals this guy runs exceedingly cool. The 2 biggest draw backs are the RAM and the screen is only 60hz if thats important to you. The ram is only 8gb, and its dual channel which is good. Normally that would be borderline acceptable for gaming but its the slower 1x16 ram. As a result in more CPU bound games like BF5 or CSGO your going to have some pretty horrendous FPS drops (1% lows). So if you buy it I would make plans to upgrade the ram ASAP. The 16.1 inch screen is nice, but I really wish HP would switch to 16x10 resolution on there 16 inch line up. The blue color is nice, and its overall a good looking laptop IMO but build quality definetly leaves a lot to be desired. Can't say if it will have problems long term but the screen does wobble significantly if you don't open it extremely carefully. Personally If your really on a tight budget I would look for something on clearance from last year, or save up to 1000 - 1200$ to get something with a RTX 3060.

Purchased an open box Victus for about $800. The graphics card is great for the price and can handle graphics intensive games like Warzone and Gears 5 without issues. I really liked this laptop because it can easily be upgraded. After a few weeks I easily switched out the 16gb sticks of RAM for 32gb sticks of RAM. I also added another NVME 1TB SSD to the available SSD slot. Now this laptop can hold lots of games and run as many programs as I want simultaneously. No overheating issues and it is lightweight. I recommend this laptop because it has a good graphics card and is very easy to upgrade parts with for a reasonable starting price.

Picked this up on a discount as a refurbished item. As my last computer was over 5 years old and did not have a graphics card this is a serious upgrade for me. I mostly play virtual table top games but have also run some rpgs and currently playing Lost Ark. Everything plays great on it. There is a slight decrease in quality when running any games on battery. Not that big of a negative for me as I purchased with keeping it plugged in all the time anyways. I picked up a USB-C adapter to connect two Display Port monitors and it runs those fine as well. Don't really have any complaints, again that could be because the system I came from was much older and I couldn't even play my virtual table top games at 20 FPS. Battery life I placed at 4 stars since the quality of gaming isn't as smooth on battery. It won't last long on battery playing a game either. Speed is excellent and much faster than what had so 5 stars. Display looks great, only giving 4 stars since it's 1080p. Totally fine and my external monitors are 4k so I hardly use the on board screen for gaming.

Good for Photoshop & video editing

Not a gamer, bought this to scan snd clean up decades of slides and prints plus some video stuff. Got the Intel version because Photoshop is biased against AMD processors. The GPU and base system architecture speed Photoshop up by a factor of 20 over my GPU less desktop. Have to get a new scanner because my HP G4050 does not work with the new processor, so beware of possible driver issues on older apps. Can't comment on games as I am only into recreating stuff that started things; like MIT SpaceWar and Adventure / Star Trek from Digital Equipment Corp systems. If you can avoid the versions with 256gb, bare minimum for Windows. Plan on adding at least a 1 TB drive. Warning Pournell's First Law of Computing applies: "You pay for your ignorance up front, or MORE later." If you are not competent to open the notebook properly, pay someone who is. 8gb memory works fine for me, games? Again buy enough upfront or see Pournell's 1st Law. Bought early when larger versions were not available, anticipating supply of issues; and added 2nd drive. Don't plan on gaming all day on battery as I seem to get 2-3 hours with things dialed back before feeding time. Might be the continuous fan operation. Note touch pad extremely sensitive and difficult to fine tune, plus some websites don't scroll easily with it. Plan on buying a wireless mouse, much nicer and get one with a scroll wheel. Sharp edge design makes for an interesting problem in finding a carrying case or backpack. Power supply is just plain clunky and awkward to pack. Powered ports on left convenient while traveling where outlets are at a premium, can charge phone from computer. If you buy an external dvd drive, get one that can handle the larger 2, 3, 4 layer disks; comes in handy. But if you plan on playing 4k or better dvd's on this look into the AMD versions as the Intel chips in the Victus DON'T have the required DRM instructions!

I find this to be a decent laptop at the price range, when i read the Q&A section about a 165hz refresh at this price range I knew it was too good to be true as its actually 60hz. Comes with 4GB x2 SODIMM at 3200Mhz, which is good enough for some basic entry level gaming, as long as you dont do max graphics + nvidia highlights/shadowplay. Keyboard is pretty comfortable to use for gaming and outside of gaming. Finally the OMEN Gaming Hub, this is a great software tool included by hp and even allows for undervolting, you wont really need the performance control unless you really need the extra power, the network booster works great i get to block all those pesky apps and services that i'd normally have to shut off manually. Overall i'd say this is a good buy if you still want it at the 60hz refresh

Overall, it's pretty good for what I got it for. It can run VR decently, although I definitely will say it's not going to be the absolute best for it, but for a laptop under $1000 I can't really complain about that. My biggest complaints are that for a while I experienced an incredibly annoying audio issue where after being put on sleep mode, it would stop playing audio through my headset for some reason. This issue seems to have been cleared up for now, however, so I imagine it was a software issue that finally got patched? My other complaint has to do with the mouse-pad. frequently, the bottom left corner will get stuck being pressed down, it commonly happened whenever my hand or arm was on the right space next to the pad. It still has happened regardless, but it seems to be either a design flaw or a flaw with my product specifically. Regardless, its pretty annoying. It's not going to be the fastest laptop out there, and I have experienced slowdowns, but some of that can be chalked up to personal use or filled up storage, but it's not the slowest computer either. I've yet to see how much improvement will be made after upgrading the base RAM and SSD, but I'm pretty satisfied with how well this laptop has been treating me, it's been working pretty well with my games as well as for my artwork, as I am able to use a drawing tablet with this.

Can’t recommend this laptop enough. I use it for light gaming and for various other things. It is solid! The computer has little to no chassis flex. The screen does seem to wobble when you open it, but I’ve gotten used to it. I mostly keep it open anyway. The sound quality of the speakers is decent. I did purchase a RAM upgrade to take it to 16GB. If you’re expecting it to have high frame rate in games and play on high settings, you are in the wrong price bracket. I’d say it’s a great budget laptop for productivity, and it has the added benefit of gaming on medium settings. I run two monitors out of this thing, one of them displayed by the USB-C port. The little I5 in this thing is no slouch. I have this thing running with several documents open and a video playing. It seems to be able to keep up pretty well. I’m sure it would be fine on the original 8GB of RAM, but for my level of productivity, I upped it to 16. Honestly it depends on your budget. But if you need a laptop for just under $1,000, or if you can find a good deal open box, this is the one to beat. It’s a bargain

Laptop is a fantastic deal. Picked up an open box for $590. Only had it for a couple of weeks but seems to be working fine. I've only installed one game so far (Marvel's Avengers) but it runs great at high settings. The fan does get pretty loud when gaming but headphones take care of that. When I am not gaming, the laptop turns off the graphics card and runs the integrated graphics. This is fine for surfing and YouTube. At idle the cooling system on this thing is very effective (31 deg C). The speakers on this are the best I have heard on a laptop but might now be loud enough for some. I like everything about this laptop except the following. Only 8GB of ram (but ram is cheap right now so easy to fix). And the touchpad is too sensitive. I turned down the touchpad sensitivity to the minimum and it is still too much. I use a trackball so this really isn't an issue. Overall I am perfectly happy with this laptop.

I run all of my games on high. Death stranding on high with the charger plugged in because it drains it fast and also gives it a power boost using best performance mode. Any game I play i play on the highest difficulty. My only problem is after mandatory files the PC only has about 140gb left. so you can only play a few games at a time. The PC is fast, slim and light and the keyboard lights up

So Fan noise you can get use to. its consistent and doesn't ramp up much, kinda like the sound profile. It is heavy for commuting with it. but perfect for in home use on flat surfaces. Backligh only has one level... so that will ruin it if you value soft lit keys. Had to add 1Tb storage nvme. and still rocking it with 8gb ram. enough for light gaming / multi tasking. Screen is non touch so there are no reflections you can see (v. gud) all useful ports available and reparability and upgradability is in the design of the laptop.

I’ve had my Victus for over a year and I have NO complaints. It’s still as fast as the day I got it, I’ve not had any issues with internet connectivity or any of the charging ports, the biggest issue I have is tweets the charging cable separates for traveling… it falls apart easily which can get aggravating, but I’ve come to expect that with charging cables for all laptops as I would prefer them come apart easily than for it all to be connected and be screwed should the cable achieve a non-functional wear and tear issue from constant use.

I have really enjoyed using my HP Victus. It is powerful and versatile. After a year of ownership I only have 3 complaints. 1 : The battery life is an hour and a half max. 2 : The hinges are very weak. The screen wobbles even with the air from a fan blowing on it. 3: My particular usage doesn’t have sufficient storage. I would definitely recommend the 512GB SSD upgrade.

I Got this laptop thinking that it would be fine, but as much as I loved the performance and how quiet the fans are. But the build quality is not good, I thought it would be fine, but the hinge was very loose it would wobble when i would try to type to the point where i could not type. The screen would even close on me if the table wobbled too much. Not to mention that for gaming laptop a 60hz screen is ok but could be better. If you are looking into this laptop then i would recommend that you at least look into the Dell G15. The one i got the Ryzen edition is only 50$ more and you get a far better 120hz screen and far better build quality. Not to mention AMD arguably better performance and better software. Hp and intel's pre-installed software needs to be addressed. I would not recommend buying this laptop until hp solves this problem.

I paid 850, maybe I could have found it for less if I looked, but I was in a hurry and my local store had it in stock. 8 GB RAM is not a lot but it's enough. I don't want my laptop more RGB than my desktop so the unassuming design is a plus for me. The 60 hz display is a little disappointing because the GPU is powerful enough to render at far higher fps than the display, but even so it's good enough. Which is generally the theme, it's good enough. It has everything I need (several usb ports, backlit keyboard, ethernet, USB-C) but not everything I want (touch screen, high refresh display, better speakers). I think if you want a 3000 series GPU on a laptop with a pretty big display it's not bad for its price point.
