We had purchased a new laptop that was used for PowerPoint presentations. Our projector did not have an HDMI input and the laptop didn’t have a VGA output. The first thing I noticed was this was a solidly built product. It seems very durable. We chose the pigtail type adapter rather than a dongle style. From my viewpoint it would be less likely to damage this type of adapter if the VGA cable was accidentally pulled on. We connected the adapter between the laptop and the VGA cable. The laptop immediately identified the make/model of our projector. All we had to do was open PowerPoint, load the presentation and start the slideshow. We just leave the adapter connected to the VGA cable when storing things back into the projector case. We couldn’t be more satisfied with the product.

For using older monitors with newer video outputs

This is for taking an HDMI output and being able to hook up to a VGA monitor. It is NOT for taking your VGA output from your computer and hooking up to the HDMI input on your TV/monitor. Again, if you're going to a VGA monitor from an HDMI output, this is perfect! If you're going from a VGA output on your computer -- this is NOT the piece of gear you need. I hope that helps.

This device allowed me to connect my older monitor to my newer computer. It works/ed. It made it possible to transfer my data from PC Nr 1 to PC Nr 2 as I could keep an eye on the transfer of material. Thanks Best Buy! You came through again!
