Customers appreciate the ice maker's quick ice production, ease of use, and portability. They find the auto shut-off feature to be a great safety feature and the price to be reasonable. However, some customers complain about the noise it makes, its durability, and the fact that it stops working after a while. Cleaning the appliance also seems to be a challenge for some users.

I purchased the Insignia Portable Ice Maker as a solution to my broken fridge water line, and it has exceeded all my expectations. It fits perfectly in my beverage/coffee nook without taking up too much counter space, making it a functional and aesthetic addition to my kitchen.
I run the ice maker for about 15 hours a day, and it has never missed a beat. Initially, I wasn’t confident it could keep up with my demand, so I opted for the replacement plan—but to my surprise, it has performed flawlessly. It produces ice at a steady pace, taking about 30 minutes to fill the basket. When I forget to empty it, the auto shut-off feature is a lifesaver, preventing overflow. On a few occasions, I’ve even dumped melted ice back into the reservoir and restarted the cycle without any issues.
Whenever I host guests, the ice maker always garners compliments for its convenience and practicality. It’s also portable enough that I’ve taken it on vacation, which is a great bonus. Cleaning it is straightforward, which makes maintenance a breeze.
Overall, this little machine is a powerhouse and a great investment. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a reliable, compact, and efficient ice maker.
Thank you for your detailed and positive feedback! We're thrilled to hear that the Insignia™ Portable Ice Maker has exceeded your expectations and fits perfectly in your kitchen. It's great to know that it's been reliable and convenient for your needs, even during vacations and when hosting guests.

My refrigerator ice maker died a few times and we gave up trying to fix it. I have been without an ice maker for over a year. Making ice cubes in trays really puts the kibosh on wanting to use ice.
For Mother's Day I decided that I wanted an ice maker. This is the one I decided on. So far it has been great. I put three cups of water in, and it makes nine ice cubes at a time. It probably takes about two hours to use up most of the water. Towards the end, when the water is almost gone, the ice cubes start to look the size of sliced olives. If you don't take the ice out as it makes it, it could start melting as there's no way for the machine to freeze it in there. Also if you don't take the ice out, it could stop making ice because there's a point where it stops making ice if it is too full.
When the machine is finished with a batch of cubes, I use the little scoop that came with the machine to put them into a silicone measuring cup I already had. Then I dump the ice into the place in my freezer where they are supposed to have been made by my freezer ice maker. Sigh. I can use the ice dispenser in my refrigerator this way. That's why I use three cups of water. For our average use for three of us who actually use the ice, that's enough for a few days. I learned that you don't want to make too much because the ice freezes together and it doesn't break up that easily.
Once it has made all the cubes it can with the water I supplied, I turn it off and wait a bit until whatever ice it's trying to make melts again. Then I unplug it and take it to the sink to drain it. There's a little drain plug on the bottom right corner for easy draining.
This machine is making me happy because I can have cold beverages again!

This ice maker has mostly been great and I 100% recommend it (but also get the $20ish extended service warranty thing because we’ve used it once and getting a brand new replacement was too easy)! We mostly use it RVing and while I always thought it was a needless purchase it’s been a game changer! My dislikes are that it’s a royal pain to clean the insides (rarely needed), it is a bit noisy, the basket design causes the ice to dam up and stop making before it’s actually full, and there’s no discernible difference between the Large and Small ice cube sizes (somewhat common among ice makers). Also it would’ve been nice for them to add a hanger on the left side for the ice scoop (we added a command strip hook). We only use filtered water in it (ZeroWater or WaterDrop pitcher) which will definitely extend its life! Obviously keep it away from sources of heat and give it a decent clearance around the vents on the back and right hand side. If this one breaks outside of the warranty period I imagine we’ll buy another identical one!

Wow! I really LOVE this ice maker! It is simple to use, not very noisy and such a great thing to have! The ice can be small or large bullet shape with the small indent on one end. The ice is dense and lasts a long time in drinks.
I bought a plastic ice bin from a local store and can make enough ice to fill it in no time.
It shuts off on it's own when full, so even if you walk away or forget about it, no mess!
If the ice you made melts, the water go through the collection tray and goes back into the water supply.
There is a plug on the bottom to empty it if needed.
It comes with a removable ice bin, a plastic scoop and paper instructions.
Helpful Hint: if you find that your jce sticks together after being in the freezer- I use the handle end of a mixer beater and it breaks apart the ice nicely without damaging the ice shape.
The photo shows the plastic ice bin I bought at a local store for 97 cents.
Great value, great quality, convenient size for storage and use, must have for summer. Makes ice in less than half the time of a fridge icemaker.

I absolutely love this compact ice maker. It makes ice both big and small in a faction of the time it would take to freeze an old fashioned ice tray. Plus it is so easy to clean just don’t get the motor wet while cleaning it always make sure it’s right side upright. But if you do accidentally get the motor wet, don’t fret cuz let it air dry and then plug it in.

Recently bought a new Insignia bottom freezer refrigerator without an ice maker. Purchased this portable ice machine to give me an endless supply of ice. Within a few hours had a gallon bag full of ice to be stored in freezer. Relatively quiet. Super quick. Set it and go about your business. Like the removable bin to aid in bagging the ice and the drain hole which helps remove the excess water. Two cons - Small ice cube setting makes too small cubes in my opinion and the anppliance is heavy. All in all, a very functional and easy to use ice maker.

Fun little Ice-Maker requires 1 workaround

PROS: Great price, does not take up much counter space, effective and fast at making ice. I can imagine this is great for an outdoor BBQ or POKER PARTY.
CONS: 1st thing I noticed was there is NO chilled compartment for the ice once it has fallen into the catch basket. This meant all of the cubes were coming out small. However I discovered an easy WORKAROUND which KEEPS ICE BIG and that is to remove the catch basket and allow the first two cycles of ice to fall into the water. This will keep the water in the repository chilled and the machine will now continue to produce large-sized ice.

Also, I've found filling up and storing 1-gallon, freezer Zip Locks full of the large ice is a great way to always have a bag available for sports injuries, daily drinking, and cooking needs!

Good enough for having it at home it gets full in approximately 30 min. And keeps the ice for long time just turn on the machine and leave it dont need to do nothing else than adding water

Efficient and compact, can start making ice in 13-20 minutes. I knew buying it that it does not keep the ice cool in the machine, so we save the ice in ziploc bags or bowls in the freezer. Got this as a Mother’s Day gift for my mom and she loves it.

Got it for new years kinda on a whim and have loved it. Makes ice quick and keeps are drinks cold. Was an incredibly good deal and the foot print of the unit isnt invasive. Would definitely recommend if you want an ice maker that wont break the bank or disappoint.

this is my 2nd machine as the 1st one broke after only 4 months...so I've had the 2nd one for almost a year and a half. it's been holding up pretty well, but today just stopped making ice so I'm trying to troubleshoot.
my family has enjoyed this machine, it's been a staple in our home...
i wanted to share some tips about cleaning...so the back scooper part will get black specks and a beige residue...to get way back there, i got a small squeeze bottle, filled with hot water and a bit of bleach and sprayed hard in that area multiple times...this has gotten that part clean wherein i don't have to use a brush whose bristles may get stuck in there

After purchasing a vintage refrigerator, it quickly became apparent that ice cube trays were taking up valuable real estate in the tiny freezer.
I discovered the Insignia Portable Ice Maker while attending a party ... came home and ordered one immediately!
I've used this continuously for two years, and couldn't be happier with it.
Was back to purchase another one as a gift for a recent house guest (who claimed they were going to "kidnap" mine), and wanted to leave a review for this great gadget!

I picked up this ice maker after casually keeping my eye out for one that had good reviews, and a decent price. I live in an apartment and do not have an ice maker on my fridge, which means I had been filling up ice trays for the last 5 years. I had been always looking for something like this, as it can be tedious doing that every day, and making sure there was ice. It is so much more convenient using this! All you do is add water, and the ice maker does the rest! It has saved me time, and has ensured that if I ever ran out, that I could have ice made in a matter of minutes. Owning this ice machine has been almost a complete win, but do have a few minor cons.
The first, is that the machine itself does not keep the ice frozen after it's made, which is kind of an inconvenience. This means, that after the ice is made, you must transfer it to a container or bag in the freezer, otherwise itll just melt back into water. It's not the end of the world, but it is worth noting, since you will have to do some work. The other con is a direct result of the first con in that, once you put ice into the freezer, it tends to stick together, making it difficult to scoop pieces. I have to resort to using a knife to break it back up, which works ok, but ends up sending some ice pieces flying and landing on the ground. This con is the biggest one for me, as I cant just go to my freezer and put some ice in a cup. It's a bit of a process, and a little annoying.
With that being said, I am still mostly happy with my purchase, which is mostly why I gave it 5 stars. It has been very reliable, and has not broken down, or stopped working in any way since I purchased it. I simply add water , and it makes the ice without fail. Time will tell if it remains that way, but as of now, I can say that it is very depending, mechanically.
With that

Wanted a back-up ice source for entertaining and at the price this seemed to be a good choice.
It makes ice quickly and is not too noisy.
The ice must be put in the freezer immediately if you plan on using it later, there is no temp control in the bin.
The size in compact, easy to store.

I LOVE this product. It makes a TON of ice for a pretty small piece of equipment. It fills the bucket up very quickly so I am able to then put it into a bigger bucket in my freezer. I’m definitely saving money with it because I got it on sale for $90.00 I know that I would spend ALOT more than that on buying ice in a year. I’ll probably surpass that this summer so will have already made my money back. The only complaint I have and this is nitpicking is that the ice tends to clump together into a big solid piece again no big issue, but it is annoying. My favorite thing is the ice itself. It is log shaped w/a hole throughout the middle like Sonics or the hospitals ice. It’s the best!! It’s the perfect shape to suck on. I would highly recommend this product.

Very soft ice!!! Wonderful if you like chewing ice, just don’t tell my dentist! Ha! This is the second one I purchased and it is going to my dad for Christmas. He liked the ice more than any other “soft” ice he has ever tried (and he chews a lot of ice). It also makes ice super fast. I purchased both of them on sale and added in the 4 year protection plan. It’s a breeze to make ice in it. I also use my filtered refrigerator water in it.

Our ice maker broke at the start of the pandemic. We can't have potential covid people in our house for repairs. While small, this thing has outpaced our ice needs by a longshot. We had to turn it off because we ran out of space to store the ice in less than 2 days or really about 16 hours of running time. It doesn't keep the ice frozen so you have to transfer it to a freezer But it is relentless.

This little machine is perfect and provides ice much quicker than I ever expected. When the ice tray is full it will stop until you empty the tray. Great buy for me. Love it!
