Purchased after trying and returning several different items to Amazon. Set up process was as follows:
1) Download drivers from the Insignia website
2) Plug device into SSD USB 3.0 port on laptop
3) Plug HDMI cord into device and into monitor of choice
4) Update drivers per Windows update promp
That's about it!

My PC is old enough that it does not have HDMI and my new TV did not have RGB. This allowed me to use USB from the computer to connect with the HDMI on the TV.

My wife needs two monitors for her work and uses two different computers. One computer is connected to her monitors via the video inputs. Her second computer is connected to one monitor via HDMI. Her only remaining connection was HDMI to USB 3. I did no prior research on this. I wanted a quick fix for my wife. I asked if this adapter was available and an associate from the computer department brought me this.
I thought the price seemed a little steep. I could have searched to for something less expensive, but we generally buy from Best Buy. They match any lower price (here, Insignia is a house brand). More important, if you follow their rules relating to returns, they take items back or replace them without question.
We took this home, connected it, installed the driver, rebooted and immediately had two monitors running. Works perfectly. Problem solved. No driver nightmares. No hours spent adjusting windows settings. End of story.

We all know these are rough times, and a lot of companies allowed people to take equipment home for work. Unfortunately I wasn’t paying attention and brought a hub home, but not my monitor cables. The hub had one hdmi and one hdmi DisplayPort for my monitors, which left me up the creek without a paddle since we weren’t allowed back in the office.
I guess a lot of people had a similar issue because I couldn’t find a hdmi to hdmi DisplayPort adapter anywhere. Thankfully I had a spare usb connection available on my hub and found this usb to hdmi adapter.
Would I rather have paid like $20 for something else, abso-freaking-lutely.. but this was all they had within 200 miles, and I think it was the last one or two in stock, so I had to suck it up and spend $60 on this thing so I could do my job.
Anyways, it works, but I would have rather spent less money for something else

My DisplayLink busted and while it's still fine for my extra USB ports, I could no longer use it for my 3 monitor setup. Buying a new one is way too expensive but then I realized I had an open HighSpeed USB 3.0 port. Problem solved, this adapter (Insignia™ - SuperSpeed USB 3.0 to HDMI External Video Adapter) allowed me to add my third HDMI monitor back in so now I have 3 active monitors. System recognized it immediately and no problem. Also, the ordering process was seamless. Ordered it online for pickup at my nearest Best Buy. When I got the it was ready and waiting at a station set aside for such purchases.

My work laptop is a Dell that has one video output of HDMI and then the USB C output used for the port replicator and two USB 3.0 ports. I originally. Works finewith the replicator at work for two monitors but I wanted to use at home where I have two monitors. My monitors are VGA and DVI.
I first purchased another product that supported VGA and HDMI out through USB 3.0. That didn't work so great, in part possibly due to me needing to install drivers that permissions do not allow. So I ended up getting this to get me HDMI output via the USB 3 port. I purchased a separate HDMI to DVI cable which I plug into my monitor (which doesn't have HDMI). Worked like a champ. My other HDMI actually also then goes to another monitor via HDMI to DVI (through an HDMI switch I use with my home laptop). Kind of a kluge but it really works. No issues with the display being responsive. My caveat is I just do work on it so Outlook Excel, Word, etc. No video. So I can't speak to the performance of that. I would easily buy another. And by the way it does come with an HDMI to DVI adaptor but the cable wasn't long enough for it to be of value.

Exactly what I needed.

This was exactly what I was looking for. I was attempting to connect two external monitors to a laptop. I needed this to connect a second hdmi output. This gave me that exact capability. I needed both screens to be extension screens rather than two duplicates. Works great.
I will admit the slight color difference. The hdmi to hdmi connected monitor and the usb to hdmi connected monitor are slightly different in color brightness and contrast. Nothing excessive though. I am an aspiring programmer. For me one screen is set in dark mode to write code and the other is used to view my code.
However, If you are a gamer you may not love that idea. You could run two adapters of the usb to hdmi connections making them both the same quality resolution. If it were too off putting.

This product functions properly with my Microsoft Surface Book 1. I joined it up to a Samsung Smart TV and it took a few minutes for it to register on the television, but the quality is clear and displays high definition. Successful driver installation from the disc using a portable Sony CD/DVD player. Did not experience any compatibility issues either.
Very pleased with this product and highly recommend it if your laptop does not carry an HDMI port.

I was very skeptical when I purchased this being that it was Insignia. I’ve only bought actual Display Link adapters from Display Link in the past but when I saw the price of this one, I thought about giving it a shot. I am very glad I did. It was as simple as plug and play and we’ve experienced no issues whatsoever with it. Very happy with our purchase.

The Insignia™ - SuperSpeed USB 3.0 to HDMI External Video Adapter, was the perfect tech tool for me to observe what my teenager was doing on her laptop while I was across from her with virtual learning I needed to know she was not straying to random websites or YouTube while it was school time as I Simultaneously was teaching her younger sister kindergarten. This was an absolute life saver!!! If you are a parent with a child that says they are doing what they should but is not. They just change the tab when you get near to their screen... than this device is for you! I happen to have a TV in the same room where we do our school studies and teaching so I simply have her screen mirrored to the TV. It just takes me a glance up to check if the teenager is still on task especially with their ADHD and mine. Best tech parenting trick ever for the real life. So simple no extra programs or monthly costs to monitor remotely.

I first bought a cheaper adapter. Did not work even after downloading and installing the driver.
I got this Insignia one. A bit more pricey. But, it came with the driver CD. Installed it on my Windows 7 laptop.
Worked right away supporting a second monitor through the USB hub connected to my laptop.
It is not even connected to one of the laptop USB slots. I am running it through the 4-port Insignia USB hub and it is working great.
Now I can run dual monitors from my laptop. Love it.

I have an older PC unit and it does not have HDMI outputs. So I accidentally purchased a monitor that only have HDMI. I went to Best Buy and they had the adapter that plugs into my computer via USB and I inputted the monitor HDMI into the adapter and now I am using my monitor! Its great. No picture distortion at all.

This is a must have for connecting a third video monitor or perhaps multiple, the adapter is easy to use example right click mouse, select Display Settings; now plug adapter in USB and power. Go back to Display Settings and arrange monitors in order left to right.

I didn't think I'd use this adapter as much as I do. It's a great way to connect my Microsoft Surface to my television. I use it to watch sports apps and Netflix. Now I don't need an additional device like a smart blu ray player or gaming system. Did not have to do any set up. Just connect and go. Very easy to use.

I tried three different brands of this sort of set up, and my PC didn't like them, and I wasn't impressed that I had to download software so that they would even operate. Once I got them to operate, the resolution was horrible, and I was given direction to go to a website to download the updated software. Too much work for such a little object. With this Insignia, I didn't have to do anything, but plug it into a USB port. My PC recognized it and the resolution on my second works perfectly. That's what I like, plug n work right away.
