Great chip. Very efficient energy usage for my SFF low profile cooler. Big as I go for SFF at stick without serious undervolts. Runs cool in my K55 with a ID Cooling IS-55x CPU cooler with artic 120 slim fan.

Picked this CPS up after many great reviews on the internet. Have it set up on MSI Tomahawk motherboard with 16 gigs of ram. No problems booting up and setting up the computer. Works great, CPS was everything they described on the internet. Very happy and would buy again.

This CPU for the price I got it for (about $180) is a excellent buy. It's great for office PC's which is what I've used it to build. But the specs also add up for mid range gaming. I've had it for almost a year now and it's proved to be a good purchase. I would definitely recommend this one. Especially over the 10th gen i510400 which wasn't that good... especially for the price it was selling for last year.

Great processor. I unlocked the power limits in the UEFI and paired it with a good cooler, so it has near the performance of a 5600X with a much more reasonable price tag. If your thermal budget is more limited or power costs a lot, the 5600X might be a better choice.

This isn't a bad processor if you're upgrading from a Comet Lake based Pentium or i3, because it saves money on having to buy a whole new motherboard. With modern games the i5-11400 does the trick and it will provide a decent framerate at 1080p.
The reason I bought the i5-11400 is because I already had a b560 motherboard and I wanted something cheap to go with it.... but I wanted at least a 6c/12t CPU because an i3 will be obsolete sooner before later. I also picked the 11th Gen because it has PCI-E 4.0 capabilities (with 500-series boards) for NVMe drives, and the IPC of Rocket lake is a little bit better than Comet Lake.
As far as the 11400f goes.... reason I picked the 11400 is because the iGPU is useful in case the GPU dies or if I do something else with the system. Be warned though, the iGPU in the i5-11400 is the weaker UHD 730..... The i5-11500, 11600, and 11600k have the UHD 750. Both iGPU solutions are weak, so don't expect much out of either.
If you're upgrading from an old platform or building a budget system then get the i5-12400 and an lga1700 b660 board instead. There are decent lga1700 boards that take DDR4 RAM and the higher speed DDR4 RAM works just as well as DDR5 RAM. Even the lowly Core i3 12100 beats the Core i5-11400 in gaming benchmarks, because the IPC performance of 12th Gen processors is that much stronger.
The case I'm using has okay airflow, but the stock cooler was barely enough for gaming. The stock cooler is a no-go if I want to do something like Folding with my system. I have another AMD system with the Wraith Stealth cooler and the stock Intel cooler can't compare to the Wraith Stealth. Intel is using a decades old design that worked okay for old Core 2 dual-core and the old dual-core i3 processors from yesteryear, but these new processors outpace these old stock coolers. The problem is these newer processors run even hotter while they're using the newer AVX-2 or AVX-512 Instruction sets.
You'll need a decent $30 CPU cooler to keep up with the i5-11400.
I have this running with a GTX 1080 right now but I know this CPU would have no problems with a 3060ti or 3070. It would work fine with a 3080 if I was gaming at 4k and my framerate target is 60fps.

I recently built my PC and when I started looking at parts I was a bit lost on which CPU to get. After watching tons of youtube videos it seemed the 11th gen i5 was my best bet. After using it now for a few weeks I can agree for 180+ you can't beat the performance. I'm able to run programs easily with no stutter and my gaming quality has improved as well. I would recommend this CPU to anyone not trying to break the bank and having trouble finding a AMD CPU.

Paired this with a RTX 3060 for my friend as a bday gift. She can get more frames in games with this than the Ryzen 5 5600X while only at 2/3 of the price. Note: Comparison was done at stock settings since you can't overclock non-K processor to make it fair. Plus my friend isn't that tech savy so she doesn't know what overclocking is anyways. She only needs to know that it runs the programs/games she want well.

Excellent value for the performance. The 11400 is the oddball of the 11th gen CPUs as the others aren't a very good deal. Depending on your motherboard you can run this CPU beyond it's 65W TDP and keep the clocks high. It is not as efficient as Ryzen, but for the price it's great. Just be sure to replace the stock cooler with something more substantial.
Overall great value for PCIe 4.0 support from Intel as we wait for Alder Lake and beyond.

Best bang for buck

Great cpu. On a new cpu this is probably the best bang for buck you can get. We paried this with a b560 msi thomahawk in my brothers build and a cheap 20 dollar air tower cooler. And with unlocked power limits and a -80mv undervolt it runs cool and holds the max clocks easily under any load. The undervolt is not nessasary if you use a decent 20 dollar cooler. But its free lower temps (if you use the stock cooler i highly recommend undervolting)

I've been tweaking an old build with an i7 3770 for the last 10 years, and finally decided it was time to build a new PC. I debated grabbing the newest 12th gen processor, but after reviewing benchmarks and features I decided I could save over 50% in cost and get more than my needs and some future proofing with an 11th gen. I don't mine or care about overclocking typically, so I opted for this 11400. Installation was easy, and it runs so fast paired with an m2 drive. I would say going for another 20-40$ for the overclockable version is probably worth it for any enthusiasts, but I have no regrets.
Cautions:
I installed this with an after market cooler with a large heatsink, and it's installed in a case with 6 fans and good airflow. It still runs around 48-55c under load. Nothing to worry about damage wise, but I'd built the PC to be heat efficient and the CPU runs hotter than I expected (my 6600xt on full load runs at 40-43 at the same time). I wouldn't recommend installing the factory fan in any build that you plan to push the CPU in, I read reviews that it underperforms pretty easily, and after seeing it's metrics with the after market fan I'm very glad I didn't try the factory fan.
All in all very happy, no regrets on not going 12th gen or passing on a k model for overclocking.

Absolutely fantastic processor. I saw a 47% performance increase with Handbrake using QuickSync settings. I was a little dismayed it only came with UHD 730 graphics instead of UHD 750 but apparently that does not matter with the work I am performing. Completely happy and would build another machine with the processor if need be.
