So this particular processor went into an old DVD player that was gutted and had a home theater pc (HTPC) put in. Before this processor I was running an Atom Dual core and it couldnt keep up with much for HD video - forget about streaming HD video from sites like Hulu/youtube/Boxee/Netflix.
Now, with this i7 quadcore in place the HTPC handles EVERYTHING like a god.
i7-2700K - stock clock to keep the temps low.
ASRock H67M-ITX/HT LGA 1155 Intel H67 Motherboard
8GB Ripsaw DDR3 @ 1333mhz
80Gb Intel SSD
SeaSonic SS-300TFX Bronze 300W PSU
2TB Seagate Network Attached Storage for movies which stream over wifi (works great with Linksys E4200 Router)
Remote sensor built in
Bluetooth wireless trackpad/keyboard
"Unified Remote" through phone/wifi control.
Xbox 360 controller to play games on steam.
See the pic attached of how small and crammed with parts this case is.. this thing at stock clocks with a stress test going stays FAR cooler than the dual core atom did. It reaches 55C max, 35ish Idle. I was afraid I would have to underclock this to keep it cool, but considering nothing I throw at it uses more than 40% cpu,I kept it stock. It stays around 35C with the 2 exhaust fans on low - they jump up when the temp hits 56C, which I have heard happen only once while gaming.

I ended up purchasing the i7-2700k over the very comparable 2600k because the price difference was $1, yep more performance for a third of the price of a cup of coffee. I have have my gaming machine set up for a few months and everything is running flawlessly. The i7 series of processors are overkill for the average user who finds themselves typing word documents and updating social media but, for the user who likes to do multiple intense applications simultaneously this processor is a dream. It is unlocked so if you ever need more speed it is a simple overclock to do. Secondly, it is a quad core with hyper-threading so your computer is recognizing 8 threads to disperse the tasks, so you almost never have a bottleneck. Finally, you have the Intel name so you have proven reliability, speed, and research put into this.
I would recommend this processor to anyone building a computer today, sure newer processors are out there but, you get little to no benefit to the user and you end up paying a premium for technology you never get to take advantage of.

awsome processor, the only bad is i needed to upgrade the fan/heatsink to keep it nice and cool. it would also be great if they gave you a tube of thermal compound instead of the tiny bit that is already on the heatsink.

Worked well with my asus extreme VI motherboard. Got a coolermaster cpu fan for it. Stock one is too small.
