I debated between going to a 2011v3 or the 1151 socket for a bit but since I do more gaming than video editing I went with the 1151 socket. More overclocking headroom was also a plus. I did a complete system upgrade around the I7 6700K. Coming from an E8400 2 core to this is astounding to say the least. Buy it, PERIOD

The I7-6700K is a good CPU for the gamers who love to squeeze out all performance by overclocking CPU/Memory. It provides a good throughput with Z170 chipset motherboards. Recommend strongly if I7-7700k doesn't fit the bill. The new 7700k CPU has 16% better performance but about $70 more expensive. You cannot go wrong with 6700K at the sub 300.

I initially purchased this product so that I can game and record / stream at the same time. This was an upgrade from the Core i5 3550 which simply couldn't handle those tasks simultaneously. I am pleased to report that not only does this processor handle those tasks, it does them INCREDIBLY well.
I am VERY happy with this purchase!

As of 2016 it is the latest chip set from Intel. I think it also uses the least amount of energy to date. It also supports Direct X12. Read the description on Best Buy and search on the net. Plethora of new advances. I am sure you will be as impressed as I am with this latest CPU technology from Intel.

Before buying this to replace aging i3-2120 from 2011, I read reviews and checked benchmarks, some claiming a 160% performance over the 2120. Since a lot of websites overblow thesee metrics, I was expecting only a modest speed increase.
Turns out the benchmarks are right. I'm pairing this with the hard drives and GTX 750ti from my old computer, and have noticed I'm getting 60 frames a second in GTA V no matter how high I dial up the graphics, Fallout 4 on high settings without god rays, and absurdly higher speeds when using 3D modeling programs and loading the modding kits for various Bethesda games. The only thing I can't get 60 fps on is the new DOOM, but I'm clocking in a serviceable 30 frames on it where with the 2120 I was getting between 15 and 25 - GPU is the obvious bottleneck there.

This is top of the line for me so I had big expectations. I'm not disappointed. Very fast. Glad I got a liquid cooler, this gets hot with rendering and video. I had issues with AMD processors years ago, so I opt for Intel as long as they continue to back their products up.

This is still an amazing processor. just installed into a brand new gaming build. the chip does get hotter than the i5, or i3 yet a liquid cooler took that problem away. Very much still a relevant processor as it had near zero difference in gaming performance over the new kaby lake i7. Seriously im talking 1-6 fps difference. GET IT.

This requires a new 1151 motherboard the cpu supports the new Thunderbolt connector, which I have on my new GA-Z170X-UD5 TH motherboard
In general, if you have a 4th generation Intel iCore i7, stick with it as the speed improvements are minor, but if you have an older computer and are about to purchase a new one, do not get an older iCore i7, get onboard with Skylake and you'll get a bunch of new features that you just can't get on the existing older motherboard

Bought this for my new PC and I am very happy with it. I would recommend if you are not looking to overclock the processor then do NOT get this one since it would be a waste of your money, just go with the i7-6700. If you are looking to overclock then do get this since it has some of the best speeds for a quad core.

I love this cpu! I wasn't paying attention to the importance of cpu when gaming so my previous is i3, but maaaaan when i placed this i7-6700k along with my newly bought gtx 1080 ti... booooooooom! It doubled all my game's fps. It is so sweet! Buy it and play everything on max settings!

Wife complaining that her 15 y/o computer was sluggish - duh. While she uses it minimally, when she does use it, she doesn't want to wait around. My 4/o Sandy Ridge i7 machine performing nicely, so rebuilt mine with a Skylake i7, and built hers out with the spare parts.
Core i7 vs i5? while I don't need a gaming machine, I do need that level for video rendering. While the i7 and i5 are similar in processing speeds - particularly for the non-K version of the i7, the multi threading capability of the i7 is where it stands out. If I had built a new Skylake machine for wife, which was a consideration, I would have used an i5 for her ans her useage does not have the demands as mine.

If you're looking to build a PC, this CPU should cover all your bases. Make sure you get it with a Z170 series motherboard so you can OC it. If your plans don't include overclocking, you'll probably want the 6700 non-K sku.

Nothing but good things to say with this CPU. Runs at roughly 30°C and unless your editing videos or doing more intensive processing there's no need to overclock.
