Customers are saying

Customers enjoy the Roomba 980's impressive cleaning performance, ease of use, and smart navigation. Positive feedback also highlights its effective pet hair removal, strong suction, and convenient app control features. However, some users find the robot vacuum to be noisy and have noted that the dustbin fills up quickly. The relatively high price point is also a recurring concern for some customers.

Purchased the 980 after reviewing all roomba models and the competitors. I decided on this model due to the extended battery life (up to 2 hrs), carpet boot and silicon rollers for pet hair. Our home's floor plan is open with a mix of tile and wood floors in the main living area. The bedrooms are carpet and in the living room is a high pile rug where we play with the kids. The 980 has no trouble adjusting to the various floor types, crossing the thresholds or onto the rug. I run the 980 on a schedule three times a week for our main living area and hallway which also helps us keep the toys picked up. The carpeted bedrooms are done on the off days and I move the robot from room to room. You definitely hear the roomba while it vacuums but it isn't too loud for television watching or conversation. The 980 isn't a replacement for an upright vacuum; however, it has helped us out tremendously with keeping the dust and pet hair down since our household struggles with allergies. You'll be amazed at what this picks up and it leaves the floors feeling amazing to your feet. An added bonus is that it fits under our sofa and beds so that helps us find the lost dog and kid toys.

    Meets expectations

So far our hardwood floors have been cleaned as well as I would have expected, without much trouble in terms of getting stuck, or missing areas. Given that we have small kids constantly leaving stuff on the floor, I have been pleasantly surprised with the ability to get around and avoid getting stuck. Results are not going to be as good if there are many obstacles, and occasionally dominoes or other things are collected by the Roomba, but I had fairly low expectations of dealing with our situation, I guess. The one-year-old was unnerved at first, but now he finds our new domestic help quite amusing. He won't leave it alone to do work though. At first I had it programmed to start at 3 AM at night on the first floor, as we were sleeping in our bedrooms are on the second floor. But in the dead of night the noise is still audible and I had to stop that. The stay-at-home parent of the house turns the machine on when she leaves the house, and once we are back on a regular schedule we'll probably schedule cleaning for daytime when we are away. We like the sound of the vacuum we are away, to deter potential burglars. Being able to start remotely is brilliant!

Vacuum works well for dog hair and small objects. Does a good job on hard services and a pretty good job on carpet but does have a small debris reservoir. Takes 2 to 3 charges to do my main level.

This is just awesome.. Comes with three different suction powers. Amazing intelligence. Get to watch more movies as this robot cleans my house.. Kids just love it.. Scheduling is one nice feature. If you bored of hearing the very less noise it makes, afternoons while you are gone to office is the best time to schedule. Still be able to monitor all on your app.. BTW, I am not an agent who sells this if you are wondering I am.. I am really impressed.

I was on the fence for quite a while deciding whether or not to go forward with this purchase. Watching YouTube reviews and unboxings, reading reviews and related. I trusted the brand based off previous models, though the price tag is still up there compared to what you can get for the same amount of money, though not a vacuum 'bot'. Over-all I'm 100% happy that I finally made the decision to spend the money and get the 980. It's worked better than expected on all flooring in my home from wood, tile, low pile and much higher pile carpeting. That said; there are many other models out there by iRobot/Roomba that have come down in price quite a bit, as well as vacuum 'bots' made by other companies. Because I've not owned any of them I can't give an honest or accurate comparison. I chose to stick with the market leader vs. saving a few bucks and not getting what I expected out of the product, though YMMV if you've previously owned another, whether by iRobot/Roomba or otherwise. In the end, I'm complete satisfied with the purchase and would not hesitate to recommend or purchase one again in the future.

I couldn't be happier with this product. It dynamically responds to carpet and opts for a deeper clean when it changes modes. The app is really nice as you're able to see exactly where the unit has vacuumed. It's pretty phenomenal. It has very little trouble getting in and around areas, the only issue being one area where it gets stuck under a dresser, but it's easy fix with the provided barriers.

I love being able to come home from work to a freshly vacuumed house. The vast majority of flooring is dark wood and I felt like I needed to vacuum everyday (even auto adjusts suction for carpet). Now, I can run a couple of times a week while at work. The remote app allows me to prescedule dates and times to run or start immediately even when at work. Important to pick up cords and remove barriers to prevent the vacuum for getting stuck but if it does it will shut off. Love that it vacuums under sofa and tables with sufficient clearance. The beam barriers help to block off areas like pet bowls and low traffic areas that the vacuum doesn't need to waste time on every session. Expect a little learning curve and you'll probably waste some time at first just watching it develop the cleaning map and patterns.

From past failures of giving my wife appliances for Christmas I was hesitant to purchase a vacuum for her. I am glad I did with the exception that I think she loves her roomba more than me. The roomba nicknamed “Stella” to quote my has wife has “changed her life”. She has more time to do other activities instead of vacuuming. Her floors are consistently clean even with two Labrador Retrievers. She sets it to clean while we are at work, I really appreciate not having to listening to the roar of the old vacuum. I must admit I had my doubts that the roomba was up to the the task of the large area of hardwood, tile and carpet we have especially considering the dogs ability to shed 1/2 their body weight each week. I made the salesman demonstrate the roomba several times plus got assurances I could return it if it wasn’t effective. (I would be facing a divorce if did.) The roomba exceeded all our expectations. Don’t worry about the small size of the waste bin as the design can pack a lot of dirt in a small space. You’ll be amazed by all the dirt the roomba will find under the bed, couches, bureaus the first few times. Treat yourself, get one and enjoy your time for other things while having clean floors when you come home. It’s not a bulldozer so you do need to pick up shoes, towels, etc off the floor for best results

The Roomba was very easy to get started and it works very good, as advertised. The only downside for me was that if you set it up to stop the work when full then you have to empty it quite often. If you set it up to stop when the work is finished then it will keep vacuuming even after it is full and it gets clogged, which is a bit stupid. It would be super nice to have a self-emptying way when it's full. And if it could be used on stairs... then it would be perfect in my opinion.

How did I live without Rosie (the name we gave our Roomba)? I have her set to clean our downstairs floors an hour before we wake up. It is so nice to wake up to clean floors! I just empty her bin before I go to bed and wake up to clean floors. She is pricey, but I am glad that I opted for the more expensive Roomba 980. Having an app on my phone allows me to control her starting times, view her history, check on updates from her. It also makes maintaining her a breeze with how-to videos. She does a really nice job of getting everything. I choose to run her in the lowest setting because 1.) she still gets everything clean and 2.) the higher setting is very loud. It is not a vacuum that you want running in the same room with you when you are trying to sleep. I am very glad I bit the bullet and bought her. It is a real convenience.

This is excellent unit, specially 980. It cleans each and every bit and piece of floor. It goes around all the corners, table legs and cover all possible place where it can go. I wish they would have added mopping as well in same unit else this is excellent innovation. And yes, you can see covered area on phone app...!!

This thing is very cool. I find myself wanting to run this all the time. But don't: Pros: - I don't have to vaccum - It does a great job cleaning - Scheduling - The app Cons (sort of): - Depending on your house you can collect a lot of hair/pet hair/dust and that fills the bin quickly. You will be reminded by the device to empty the bin. - It's a little loud on carpet. I thought someone was running the hair dryer for a long time. - If it gets full, stuck, or has an error mid job, resuming isn't always so simple (or I just didn't figure it out). It always seems to start over if I have to empty the bin mid-cleaning cycle. - pricey Definitely worth while for the price for me....

Got specifically as a daily maintenance vac to clean up after three cats. Wasn't expecting anything spectacular compared to a canister or upright, but opening the bin after each run has proven otherwise -- cat hair, litter, and dust bunnies galore. Works great on carpet and well on tile; haven't tried it on our hardwood yet. Biggest obstacle to this point has been tall rugs (can't quite get up) and flimsy mats (pushes them around).

You have to be able to attend to the roomba while running. The dust bin could be designed to empty without user intervention allowing autonomous functions. About as noisy as a regular vacuum cleaner. With a long haired dog have to run about three times a week, but the unit does a good job.

I was reluctant to pony up the $900 this thing cost but I’m glad I bought it. I opted for the more expensive one due mostly to the longer run time before charging. This does a fantastic job cleaning my downstairs (2000sq ft) area, getting in all the right spaces and finding its way around. Every once in a while it gets stuck on a cord but overall it does a great job navigating my space. The only issue I have with it is a buzzing sound it makes when it’s moving; this is almost like loose pieces vibrating. It’s annoying at times and gives it kind of a cheap sound if that makes sense. I thought this was a problem with my specific unit and exchanged it for another one but the noise persists. Other than this I couldnt be happier. My house is all hard flooring with the exception of a few area rugs and coming home everyday to clean floors was worth every penny.

At the price point I had high expectations. They were met!!!! This new “bot” has really taken a load of this mom. I have 2,000sqft of hard floors downstairs and 2 shedding dogs that constantly leave their fur behind. This roomba more than gets the job done. I couldn’t be happier!!

Both my wife and I have health problems and are searching for anything that can make our housekeeping easier. A few months ago we replaced the carpet on some of our floors with laminates. We never realized just how much dirt the carpet was hiding. We were having a very difficult time keeping the floors clean, thus the search for a robot began. After researching the situation thoroughly we decided on the 980 even though its a little pricey. Turns out BB was having a sale softening the financial blow somewhat. Time will tell as far as durability but the 980 is a godsend. We haven't taken advantage of all the bells and whistles yet, but have been amazed at the quality cleaning it does.

This IRobot 980 is incredibly efficient. I have some carpet but mostly hardwood and when it goes over the carpet if sounds like a 2nd motor kicks in and the suction is quadrupled. It usually takes a little over than an hour to complete the job and it actually goes over the same areas a few times making sure nothing is missed. It never has a issue docking or trying to go over the steps. I'm so glad I upgraded and bought this. This is the best little worker I know. We set it to come on every morning when we arent here so we dont have to worry about getting in the way. GREAT PURCHASE!
