Vacuums pretty well but doesn’t always go home to charge and it keeps saying the lid is open when it’s not.

This may be the best Roomba robot and/or vacuum robot around. I had it for a short while for testing and was in love with it. The ease of setup and the ease of use with the app is the best. I ended up getting an i7 instead of this one but was just because of the price. This S9 is expensive but is the best also. If you have the $$ get it, if not, go with the i& which is the second best around.

We have owned several Roombas over the years, and all have been capable worth the spend. This one is a game changer. It’s an all new design from bin to shape to battery to software. The bin is SO much easier to empty. It pulls right up and out, and dumps into the trash with a button push. I need to pick the Roomba up to detach the bin from the side, this one is right in the center under a solid lid. The SHAPE made me so happy when I saw that flat edge. One of my biggest complaints about previous models was lack of corner and edge cleaning. They have finally figured it out on this redesign. The curb feeler has five brushes instead of three, and it truly sweeps the corners and edges. The level of clean is just so much higher with this design. The BATTERY lasts two hours. That’s a lot of cleaning time, and the robot actually finds its base every time for a recharge. I have seen it stuck under furniture but I have not yet seen it lost. That’s a huge improvement. After the the first couple runs, you’ll figure out what spots are trouble for it and block them off. We have two trouble spots, one under the foyer table and one under a chest in the living room. I have since placed obstacles in front of those so Roomba can clean on schedule every other day and not worry about it getting hung somewhere. Yes, you have to empty the bin, but the clean is so great now that it does not bother me. Anyone worried about level of suction need not. We ran it right after our housekeeper left and it pulled even more dirt from the rugs. Pet hair is no problem at all anymore since the corner issue is solved. The only part I had to remove a star for is the smart mapping. Maybe over time it will get better, but for now Roomba cannot seem to find all the first floor rooms on her own. It consistently skips the bedrooms and says it is finished. I’ll update if that changes. Hopefully it will. For now, our common living areas are all beautifully swept and clean—our first floor is about 1900sf total, so she’s getting about 1000 of it and we’ll within one charge.

Not good on rugs and carpets. On rugs it will move the rug around on the floor or sometimes get stuck. Time to time you will get error codes. My Neato D7 is much better and reliable then Roomba S9

I purchased this to replace a model 980. This has a wider cleaning path and gets further into corners. The best improvement is that rooms and be scheduled independently so I don't have to clean the whole fllor every time. I can set it to clean high traffic areas daily and lesser used areas less often.

I'm not the best person to remember when I need to vacuum and the iRobot - Roomba s9 is a great help to me! I'm still learning about how to incorporate into our daily routine, and visiting the iRobot Community Forum has been a big help. My cat, Gus, doesn't like it, but he'll just have to get over it! :-)

The Roomba s9 series is iRobot’s latest line of robotic vacuum cleaners. There are two models released namely the s9 and the s9+ with the main difference of the latter having an external dust bin. Also both the s9 and s9+ are designed to work with the Braava jet m6 which is a robot mop. This review focuses on the s9.
The s9 differs primarily from previous Roombas by having a D-shaped form factor. By having a flat edge the Roomba is better equipped to reach corners compared to the traditional round ones. Setting up your Roomba requires a 2.4Ghz wi-fi connection and either an iPhone or Android phone. Note that the Roomba like most internet appliances only support 2.4Ghz. Once connected, you can now control your Roomba via the app in your smartphone.
Typical of recent generation of Roombas are the ability to map your house and divide it into rooms so you can select which rooms to clean or to clean all rooms. Normally it would take up to five whole house clean cycles to map your. The battery life of this Roomba is rated at one and a half hours. And as far as my initial runs of this model, battery life performs as rated rated. In real terms that is enough to clean 1,100 sq ft. (My house is 1,600 sq ft and the Roomba always “died” before finishing the job so I had to close some areas in my house.) Likewise this Roomba both has Alexa and Google Assistant like the previous iteration of the Roomba. So far connecting to either Alexa or Google Assistant was a breeze.
So the million dollar question is, how does it really differ from previous models of the Roomba? I cannot really answer that from my actual test but gathering from other sources is that the suction power of the s9 is up to 40 times better compared to the 600 series. 30% wider brushes and a 3d sensor. Again I cannot verify this myself but as far as my usage is concerned, this vacuum perfoms like a medium power manually push vacuum cleaner which is not really bad. Also the dust bin can be purchased separately so that your vacuum can be upgraded to the s9+. And lastly and I have no way of verifying this is that it works with the Braava jet m6. After your robot vacuum finishes the m9 immediately goes to wotk.
And while there is a lot to like about the s9, the number one argument for skipping this for other models of the Roomba is its current selling price makes it a prohibitive purchase compared to others which could reach several undred dollars. And it is definitely not for everyone making it a hard sell. So unless you’re the type who want the latest no matter the price, then this model is for you. Otherwise, you may want to consider other models.

The house stays a lot cleaner. We had a problem with pet hair everywhere. We just couldn't keep up with it until we bought the Roomba s9. No more pet hair, and the self cleaning docking station is a must. The Roomba empties it's self and goes right back to work.
I absolutely love it!!!!!

Picked up with the m6 mop. Great combo for hardwood floors. He vacuums then m6 mops. Noticed improvements with how it avoids getting tangled up in things, navigating through leg chairs and what not. Room mapping system is great.
Overall a huge step up from the 960. Glad I did it.

This is a great robot with all the bells and whistles but with a very short lifespan. I spent many hours on the phone with technical support - I got a replacement, which also broke down several months later.
It just stops vacuuming and becomes unresponsive in the middle of the room. You have to carry it back to the home base. Then it does it again when on a job. I am now out of warranty and cannot even get a repair estimate to submit to my insurance company.

After two days, the roomba began to act up and make a grating sound. An iRobot rep was consulted and recommended returning the device, We did and the second one appears to be doing great.

Does a great job cleaning. Especially love that we can set the time for when we are gone. The only thing to worry about is making sure that all things are off the ground before vacuum starts.

Terrible Robot Vacuum. In an attempt to make it intelligent, the robot stops cleaning for dumb reasons, both real and imagined, and there's no way to disable this error checking. Currently, I can no longer use it, as it keeps asking me to either reinstall the bin, or close the lib, even though both are closed. If there was a way to disable this check, in the same way I can disable the full bin check, which also sometimes incorrectly stops the vacuum dead in its heels, I could continue to use it. Currently, it sits and collects dust. In case you're wondering, yes, I did clean it thoroughly to make sure all the sensors are clean and it still has this problem. Even if that had fixed it, I really didn't buy a robot vacuum to sit and clean it all the time, which I did, for the bin, because it was so finicky.
Anyway, terrible purchase overall, $1000 down the drain. Also, the parts are subpar, and the rollers on the bottom always crack after a weeks of use, similar to other complaints I've seen, which had never happened to me with previous iRobot vacuums.
Needless to say, this will be my last iRobot purchase. Hoping the rumored release of the Dyson Eye works better. I use Dyson for all my other vacuums and my air purifiers, and they are amazing, and my wife swears by all their hair products, all of which she owns.

This was a Christmas present for my wife. This vacuum worked like a dream for a week. Then it would no longer navigate. I spent hours with Irobot technical support and no luck. They put in for a warranty replacement machine to be shipped to me. That was two weeks ago and it is still on "backorder," and has not been shipped. Needless to say, I am exceptionally unhappy after paying the amount I did for this product.
