j5create - ScreenCast HDMI Wireless Display - White - $54.99
Just about everyone in our family regularly finds themself presenting, demonstrating (teaching), and traveling. Having a “wire” that encapsulates all the necessary technology, and that will easily mirror slides, pictures, videos, or documents that are on our various source screens (phone, tablet, laptop) and display them quickly and conveniently on any available display (TV, monitor, projector) is exceptionally useful. The j5create even makes the process to make this happen very easy.
SETUP: The j5create took mere minutes to set up. That “wire” is plugged into the display device. It needs a USB power source which can be your display’s powered USB. Or, you can use the USB extension cable that j5create provides to connect to your own power supply, but that’s not the typical situation. With the correct Input selected, you log into the j5create device and establish a local WiFi network. The j5create is now ready.
Your source (iPhone for me) uses its typical control for throwing the screen image to the display (via the j5create). On the iPhone or iPad it’s the control screen you drag down from its hidden location. The Mac uses Airplay. Android will have its own APP for this purpose. I only tested Apple/Mac devices, but it was all very straightforward.
PERFORMANCE: Once setup on my iPhone for me, the next use required I simply change my WiFi by selecting ScreenCast from my network list; going to the Control Panel and selecting ScreenCast from that list. I took a few pictures of my test results. The iPhone XR screen was now up on my older Panasonic 58” Tv, using the side HDMI for input, and the nearby USB port for power. I opened my PHOTO App, and all my photos could be displayed either in portrait or landscape mode. In fact, anything I’m doing on my phone is mirrored up on the connected display.
I then tried going to my VUDU movie collection. The movie played, with both sound and video on my phone. BUT … only sound, not the video on my mirrored Tv. Oops. I’ve witnessed this before. Vudu was refusing to let me send this media to an external device. Copy protection!!! This is a unique issue, unrelated to anything ScreenCast is accomplishing, and will probably be a case by case issue depending on streaming service (Netflix, HBO, Peacock) or digital locker (Vudu, AppleTv).
Ok. But, how about my Tv Apps? I have MLB.com on my phone for baseball games. I was watching my Red Sox game playing on my phone (vertical or horizontal layout), AND also on my big TV. Perfect sound and picture mirroring. So, some broadcast media works fine. Maybe most. The resolution is limited to that of the phone, so I wasn't expecting a perfectly smooth, sharp image and my lowered expectations were warranted. Still pretty good, though.
I did not have actual (animation) games, but I’d be surprised if their high speed action translates well using this technology.
RECOMMENDATION: Easy to recommend and a nice gift for teachers and presenters in your family.
The ScreenCast has lots of uses, will work across multiple operating systems, is ridiculously convenient to carry and setup, and functions reliably. Recommended as long as you recognize its limitations.

This j5Create screencast is quite brilliant in concept. Make a lightweight usb-powered dongle device using a minimal of parts (wifi radio, I/F circuit, HDMI port) and use the customers television screen as the interface device to connect from a variety of electronic devices (phones, tablets, computers, game consoles, etc)
It felt awkward at first jumping right in with no display nor idea how it was going to work, but sure enough, just plug one end into the USB port on a TV, and the other into an open HDMI port and bam, there’s your interface with setup instructions on-screen.
Usage was relatively easy, though the quality of the ScreenCast image, and the refresh rate leave something to be desired.
I compared the images from various ScreenCast sources with a dedicated most costly Apple TV and the difference was pretty striking. This dongle produces images decidedly softer, more blurred with blown out colors on stills. Video clips had considerable lag and looked merely acceptable on a 4k display.
This product is not without its merits, particularly for older passive televisions that lack built-in AirPlay 2, where casting ability is desired, or you need to cast from a device not enabled on another set.
I also imagine travelers and hotel guests would make good use of this extremely portable device.
PROS
———
+ size, portable
+ simple setup
+ device agnostic
+ includes USB extender cable
+ on-screen setup display page

CONS

--- SETUP ---
The setup for the ScreenCast 5G Wireless adapter is quick and simple. Just plug in the HDMI to a projector or TV and the USB end to a USB power supply, which most TVs and projectors have. From there, follow the on-screen instructions to set up your J5 to your wireless internet.
--- FEATURES ---
The key feature of this J5 ScreenCast is that it works with Mac and iOS phones as well as Android devices.
--- PERFORMANCE ---
The performance was phenomenal. I present often and it’s always a good idea to have a back-up. I would trust the J5 as my main form of presenting or as a backup, as it is just as reliable for either purpose. I tested this out with Mac and iOS devices. By plugging this in to the back of a TV, I was able to use my Mac to present a slide show wirelessly with very little noticeable lag. The audio came from the TV source, so I didn’t need additional speakers. Even more impressive was the ability to present a slideshow from my phone. I set my iPhone settings to mirror mode and my entire phone was visible wirelessly on the screen. I went through a presentation from Google Slides and was able to play video that was included in the slide. Again, from the phone to the J5 ScreenCast, there was no noticeable lag.
--- EXPECTATIONS ---
The product meets my expectations. It has now become a part of my travel pack for when I go and present, as It’s easier and cleaner to connect a wireless cable to a projector or TV than to drag a long HDMI cable. Do note that this is meant to mirror your screen for presentations, but it will not function if you try to project streaming services like Netflix or Hulu. In this case, the J5 showed a black screen. However, keep in mind that this is not the intended purpose of the cable. Just to get creative with the testing, I opened up the Clash Royale game on my iPhone. The game projected to the screen and it was a blast watching such vibrant colors compared to my original iPhone X. Sound source came from my TV and the game has never sounded better.
--- VALUE ---
The price for the j5 ScreeCast is good, considering the quality you get out of it.
--- APPROVAL ---
I highly recommend this product for people who present and travel often.

THE BREAKDOWN:
Who doesn’t find the idea of wirelessly “throwing” up pictures, video or documents from your phone, computer or tablet?? With my wife teaching small kids and myself being in the IT industry and teaching adults I found this item to be very interesting. The j5create cable makes this process a breeze! Be warned if you are buying this product to use with apps such as NETFLIX, HULU, AMAZON, etc….. you will be disappointed (read further for a full explanation).
Setting this up took just a few minutes. You plug in the HDMI end into the HDMI port and then you need a USB port for power. Side note they recommend at least 1-amp USB port. Once you turn on the device you select the input and log into the j5create device and connect it to your local Wi-Fi network. Once that is complete, you’re ready to present.
I used both my acer laptop and my iPhone to test this device. On my iPhone the process was super simple you just swipe up from the bottom and choose screen mirroring and the screencast device should be listed. From my laptop it was just as easy you select the Wi-Fi screencast network and you can mirror or extend your display just like if you have multiple monitors.
The performance was as expected. It worked great for photo’s, phone videos and documents. If you want to play videos from apps like NETFLIX, HULU, AMAZON, etc…. then you will be disappointed. It does start and you can see the list of video’s, like on NETFLIX but once you try to play it, you get NO video only sound in my case.
PRO’s:
-Easy to Install
-Easy to use
-Not bulky
-Very nice you want to share photo’s or documents
-Can use with multiple devices
CON’s:
- Cannot play some video apps
SUMMARY:
Overall, the device worked well but you may find cheaper devices out there on the market that can do all this and more, and I would recommend this to a friend if they are in the market for device like this.

This enables you to mirror from a variety of sources to an HDMI TV. This can be especially useful during these times.
The device is simple, it has an HDMI on one end and a USB on the other. It also comes with a USB extension cable in case your TV does not have a USB to use for power or you need the longer cable to reach the USB Port.
I found the installation to be straight forward. I started with my windows 10 laptop and once you have the screencast in and select that HDMI input, they display great instructions for all OS sources on the screen. This is especially helpful when you are trying do this without reading the small print instructions.
For Windows, it was simple. I had to connect to the Screencast SSID, then select my Wifi’s SSID. Once connected, you use the standard Windows key +P to select to connect to the wireless display. Once doing so, you can either duplicate or extend your display. As far as playing video’s from my windows device to the TV, there was some lag. When I used it to “extend” my screen to create/use the TV as an additional monitor, it worked pretty well. I could use the TV for MS Word while keeping my pc screen for other apps and vice versa.
I then tried the screencast from my Android Phone. I have a Samsung so I had to use Smart View. The first time it hung up on the TV so I unplugged the Screencast and plugged back in and it seemed to work fine, not my favorite use case but it functions.
The easiest was the MacOS and IOS. I used the Airplay from my Macbook Pro and it worked really well. There was not the lag between the Mac and the TV like would occasionally happen with the Windows 10 PC. I then tried my Ipad with Screen Mirroring. Again, this worked without issue, I quickly brought up Safari like I did on the Mac and played a video. Smooth with no issues.
Overall, there are other options out there and the price point is a bit higher but if the Windows and Android worked as well as the Mac and IOS, I would have easily given this 4 stars. I would recommend this if you are looking for a very easy solution to mirror your Mac or IOS device to an HDTV. If that is not you, you may want to wait on some additional firmware updates.

Easy to use, but poor picture quality in motion

The Screencast is compact and looks great with static images. It would be ideal as a wireless projector cord for someone who needs to make presentations when they travel. Since it doesn’t handle motion well, I’d make a different choice for a home user looking to bridge their PC to their TV without wires.
The Screencast HDMI adapter continues the wireless trend with an easy to use and easy to connect wireless unit. Many streaming media players will allow for wireless displays, but none are as reliable and easy to use. The same functionality on a FireTV stick requires going into the Settings menu, then hoping the connection remains active for more than 10 minutes. Chromecast is a bit better, but will only display a Chrome browser window. It doesn’t work with Power Point, Photoshop, or any other desktop application.
When it’s first plugged in, it will give you the option of connecting to a network or working on a stand alone basis. Connecting to a network is recommended so that you can continue to surf to other web sites while still displaying your screen. Once you’re connected the first time, each subsequent time is much easier. You just select ‘connect to wireless display’ in Windows and your screen appears. You can also select the Screencast as an extended screen so you can keep some things on the display and have some in the dark.
The image quality is top notch for static items like Slides. The connection was solid and never wavered, even connected for an hour. It starts to suffer when there’s movement. Lots of movement (like an action movie) makes the screen look compressed and low res. This is reinforced with disappointing audio to go along with the compressed video.
Overall, I wouldn’t recommend this for any purpose other than Power Point decks or slide shows. It’s very compact and travels well. If you need a wireless projector cord, this is ideal. If you’re looking to cast from your couch to your TV, I’d look elsewhere.

Great way to wirelessly transmit Audio/Video

J5create is a brand I’ve bought numerous AV products from Bestbuy in the last few months especially due to Covid. Honestly they seem like something you’d find on the big river site but with more customer service, marketing and QA to verify quality of product.
This 5G Wireless transmitter is no different. I was skeptical at first thinking it would be flaky, heavy-touch and cumbersome but I was extremely pleased with the results. Right to the pros/cons.
Pros:
-Totally wireless from source to destination. Great for conference rooms, cable boxes to outdoor patios with no cabling, anything you can’t run a video cable without looking odd or can’t stream to a smart device.
-Literally no set-up requirements, once you plug in a source audio/video it gets broadcasted to the destination device instantly
-Good looking hardware, you can 3m tape it to the back of your TV to conceal it or put it in some kind of deck enclosure.
-Great for devices and apps that don’t support direct casting. For example an older TV that doesnt support Chromecast or airplay. Or an app like Apple Photos that doesn’t let you cast to a TV, you can use this device to share to the TV.
Cons:
-Limited to 1080p
-Requires power at both source and destination. Would’ve been great if it took usb power at both source and destination.
-Hardware is concealable but relatively large stilll. Inbetween a wireless router and an access point.
-Power light is just red, doesn’t change color when a. Connection is set up.
-Source behavior was inconsistent, some apps required you to shift from portrait or landscape others did not.
-Only supports display mirroring.
Overall a great device. I could see this being useful in an office conference room environment as it would be easily concealed and support all different sources and destination targets. The main negative is it is limited to single device 1080p while many office environments are 4K. The other negative is it only supports mirroring, not extend or multiple displays.

This makes wirelessly duplicating/extending a screen to a projector, a breeze. Exactly what I needed to complete my setup at work.
To begin with, this adapter could not be easier to setup. The box contains the HDMI cable that has an HDMI connection on one end and a USB-A connection on the other. You also get a USB-A extension cable, but I did not need to use that. First, I tried to connect this at my home on one of my older non-smart TVs, and it was easy to setup. I used my iPhone to follow the prompts and got it connected to the network. After a couple of minutes, I was able to connect my Surface Book 3 to the TV, wirelessly using this adapter.
What I was really looking forward to was using this at work. I was able to connect the adapter to the projector I have and within seconds I was able to wirelessly connect my Surface Go2 to my projector. This is amazing because it gives me the freedom of walking around the room while still controlling the presentation. I absolutely love the freedom and flexibility this gives me.
If you are looking to easily connect your computer to a display/projector, this does it with no hassle. The connection has been reliable so far, and the setup process was a breeze. This is an easy recommendation for anyone in the market for a wireless display adapter.

I used both the 5g hdmi transmitter/receiver and the small wireless dongle. They both performed really well.
The 5g transmitter/receiver penetrates through walls. 3 walls in my house 1 with plywood. It was about 50 ft away and worked just fine. Ran hot because I pushed the limits. IR remote repeater worked great with my TIVO box.
The small device dongle was easy to setup it requires wifi. Was using Pixel 3xl.
I would recommend this product if you are trying to project screens or want to use a set top box or DVR or another HDMI device from another room.

I have a few of these devices. I have some Screenbeam 2 minis but find these work better for a few reasons. the size is much smaller and this device not only takes care of Window devices but also Apple. They are small enough to keep in a laptop bag and fit just about every television out there. If you are going to use these in a travel situation you will want to bring a USB chrager to power the device.
