I root for Kevin Smith even though his recent films haven't been particularly great. His early work is far superior to anything he's done after Clerks 2, which came out about 14 years ago. He created a solid foundation in his View Askewniverse but he's had a hard time developing and adapting his characters to more current times. Case in point, Jay & Silent Bob, two characters who tie all of Smith's movies together. I loved the first Jay & Silent Bob film, even when there were cheap, hacky jokes, those two carried the film. But almost 20 years later, a soft reboot of the previous Jay & Silent Bob movie is not what these characters need. Jason Mewes and Kevin Smith are not the same people. They're older, more weathered but presumably wiser. While I did like the references to the previous films, again, they're just repeating what happened 20 years ago. I rather see them have a new adventure or better yet, bring in some new main characters to this Universe. This movie wasn't necessary.

I really enjoyed this movie, I have always loved the Kevin Smith movies mostly so was looking forward to seeing this one, didn't manage to catch in in the movie theaters so was glad to see it finally available on Blu Ray. You are not going to have to think too deeply to watch this but you are getting what you would expect, loved all the cameos!! Enjoy

If you like Kevin Smith, you’ll like this movie. If you don’t know who Jay and Silent Bob are, this movie will fall flat, but it wasn’t made for you anyway.
Lots of nostalgia and finally a little character growth for the titular characters. A great ensemble cast bringing back many of the actors we loved from previous View Askew films.
I feel bad for Dante though. Still working at the Quick a Stop after all of these years has to be depressing.

Kevin Smith is such a smart writer/director. This "reboot" is able to take characters and jokes from old movies, and work them into this movie in a smart way where if you were seeing the Jay and Silent Bob universe for the first time you would still be entertained, but if you've seen past movies, you would get the references and not like they were just added on rehashing the same joke as a cop out to write new material.

What can I say but Jay and Silent Bob are in the hizzouse. They getting older but are still super funny. If you are a true fan of Kevin Smith...you will love these movie. It references many past movies from him. It uses some of the same jokes, some new ones. It is a reboot that fits the definition (from the movie). A must see for all true fans, and a movie that will make you laugh. Check it out...

A classic movie series comes to its senses-shattering conclusion! Or is it a radical reimagining?? It’s a sequel and a reboot, all rolled into one! Grab your papers, your popcorn, and your best pal because Jay and Silent Bob light it up one more time with a fat stash of cameos and callbacks. But face front, True Believer because the real scene-stealer swings in at the end for a MARVELOUS moment!

Wow. Where to start? How about, despite liking most of Kevin Smith's films, especially the films that the titular characters appear in, it seems to me that Kevin has finally managed to prove that one can make too many trips to the proverbial well. Sadly, this entry into the the Askewniverse is by far, the worst.
All the previous ones were entertaining at some level and in most cases pretty funny. Again, I'm referring to the flicks that Jay and Silent Bob appear in. So, not Cop Out, not Tusk, not Jersey Girl, and certainly not his standout film, Red State. A film that proves that Kevin, when he's not trying to make a quick buck to fill the coffers, can go beyond his comfort zone and produce a well-made, interesting film. Something "Reboot" proves he needs to start doing a lot more often.
What gets me about "Reboot" is that all the basic elements are there escept one. His flare for good dialog. Virtually every cameo you'd expect and want (except Randall who is only referred to in name) make the obligatory appearance. The best cameo by far, is the surprising appearance of the two stoner kids (now adults) from "Strike Back" that buy a nickle bag from Jay as he is singing Jungle Love. Yeah, that was the high point. No pun intended.
The writing here is lazy and the acting amongst the six main characters is just bad. I could not have been more disappointed. As a fan of Kevin's work and having seen him live, I've come to expect more from him. Yeah, going in, I knew that this would just be more of the same type of material you'd expect in one of his films (which is why I bought it in the first place) but not only isn't there anything funny here, there's no reason to have even made this movie in the first place short of showing that now Jay has a kid. An obnoxious one, no less.
I only gave it two stars instead of one because I do like the characters and was glad that Smith managed to get nearly everyone from the previous films to do a cameo as well as some obligatory 4th wall breaking. I can only assume that Matt Damon and Ben Afflect did it for free. I'm sure that either one of their normal fees would have exceeded the entire budget of the movie.
So, stick to the previous films in the Askewniverse and give this one a pass. Don't say I didn't warn you. And no, partaking of the usual item that they sell in front of the Quick Stop will not help.

So, if you are familiar with Kevin Smith's work, you already have a pretty good idea of whether or not you are going to like this film. If you are not already familiar, there is nothing I could say that would help you to figure that out, given his unique brand of comedy and how personal and subjective the love of that comedy actually ends up being.

Jay and Silent Bob are back in this "reboot" which sees our heroes on a journey to stop yet another film of Bluntman and Chronic from being made. This blu-ray is great for Smith fans as it is loaded with special features that include behind-the-scenes interviews and bloopers.

A pretty low budget, but solid sequel. You can tell Kevin Smith likes his little homages to previous projects he's done over the years. However, this movie does deliver some good Jay and Silent Bob content.

I have always been fond of Kevin's movies, with Mallrats being my absolute favorite. Kevin's heart is in the right place, but this movie felt like it wanted to do too much. I enjoyed it, just not as much as I'd hoped to. It's still worth checking out if you are a big fan.

It was not that bad actually. There was alot to love about the movie especially when sequels are hard enough to live up to and the fact that this was a reboot making fun of itself as a bad sequel is pretty cool. Definently worth a watch for any Smith fan!

If you loved Jay & Silent Bob Strikes Back, you'll like this film. If you like Jay & Silent Bob, watch this. Humor is pretty good but the best thing is the cameo appearances and explanations given in the film about them. Recommended.

Classic Jay and Silent Bob with a touch of heart was lacking back in the 90's. We all have to grow up and change. This movie shows and speaks to those same people who have now grown up, had kids, and are living in their 3rd act.
Still irreverent, still funny as ever. Still telling jokes while adding youth and diversity. As every Reboot should be!

It’s a rehash, updated version of Jay and Silent Bob strike back. And clearly a bit of a bone to some of the participants... but that is what you’re watching it for anyway.
Was it a 4 out of 5 if you don’t know the cannon? No.

I love Kevin Smith movies. I love meta commentary. I thought this movie was ok. If you haven’t seen his other films you might actually hate this? I enjoyed seeing all the cameos but if you’re not familiar with all his work you might not.

I'm a big fan of Kevin Smith movies, in all their silly and hilarious glory. I was excited for this movie's announcement and was not let down, other than the fact that the story revolves around more than just Jay and Silent Bob. Without giving anything away, their other traveling companions didn't excite me as much to have them be such a large part of the story. Of course, it's a major plot point that drives the story forward. I just wish it focused on existing characters from the View Askewniverse instead of introducing new ones. All that being said, it's a very fun film and if you're already sold on Kevin Smith films, you won't be disappointed.

If you are a Kevin Smith fan this is a must have. PERIOD. The humor does not stop and the movie easily goes straight to your funny bone. Countless pop culture references and relentless jokes will keep any fan watching it over and over. Kevin Smith is not afraid to make fun of himself or anyone else. Must watch!
