There are other options for speakers, but the Moto Z family modular components are convenient. The next Gen SoundBoost 2 only adds features and no hardware update. Same internals. I like the metal grill on this SoundBoost vs Cloth on the SoundBoost 2. And this one is thinner. If you find the JBL software for the Moto Mod software appealing get the SoundBoost 2. If you want a thinner and easier to clean and maintain get this one the original SoundBoost. The quality of sound that come off these are loud and full. Comparable to small to medium Bluetooth speakers. The convenience of having it attached to your phone with the Moto Z modular design is what you're paying for. I rarely have any other Mod on my phone.

Nice quality JBL has made here. Nice highs very clear. I find myself turning it down sometimes cause it gets pretty loud. Nice battery life as well. I can go a few hours on blast, with the battery.

Product was easy to use and sounds better than phone's single built in speaker. Kickstand is a nice feature to position phone when watching videos. Bass and total volume not quite in category of a good dock or larger Bluetooth speaker but that's understandable.

I bought my Moto Z Play for the battery life, and because I've been happy with other Motorola phones in the past. I really wasn't interested in the Moto Mods. But I'm very glad I bought this speaker. It is very easy to use, just attach it to the back of the phone and it's ready to go. Sound quality is very good. Though it adds to the overall thickness and weight of the phone, it's not too big or heavy to carry around. It can be recharged on its own or when attached to the phone. And it's easy to remove when I'm done using it. The only thing lacking is a case to carry it in when it's not being used, which is minor. Overall it's a great product.

This and the camera are why I bought the Moto Z phone. Both are great. The speaker blasts well outside and in. The bass isn't as good as larger speakers, but so easy to use.

Clarity and volume is excellent with no distortion at max volume. speaker includes a built in battery extender and has a kick stand. worth the money. get it u won't regret it.

It does it's job. Gets the music pretty loud and it's easy to take on and off. Makes the phone a lot heavier with it attached is the only downfall and you need to charge it.

I purchased the Moto Z from Best Buy when the JBL speaker Mod was being offered. I'm not really sure how often I will use it, but my testing of it so far has been very good. The sound if pretty impressive for such a small footprint. I did notice that the phone was kind of picky about the Mod being stuck on at exactly the right position, but once it connected properly, the Moto Z immediately and seamlessly recognized it. I tested it on a symphonic piece that went from a very soft intro and built to a very loud ending, and the speaker never sounded harsh on the loud end, and you could still hear the softer passages, although I was in a quiet environment at the time. I'm not sure how the speaker would perform in a loud environment like a party or large gathering. I'm thinking it is probably not going to make anybody into an amateur DJ or anything. It would probably be fine in a business setting as a speakerphone or replaying a speech or presentation, etc.

While I received the speaker system for free when I got phone, I would have bought them anyway. By fully integrating with the phone, there is no need to use bluetooth or wires. With its internal battery there is no draw on the phone's battery to run the speakers. There certainly are louder speakers out there but for the size you can't really expect any more. Most importantly, the sound is not compromised when turned up to full volume. Most little systems will clip or turn off entirely.

I really like how easy it is to connect and start enjoying my music. Battery lasts a long time and sound quality is good for such a small unit.

I really do love this mod. It truly enhances the phone when listening to music or watching a video. Putting the stand on the speaker was just brilliant. I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because of 2 things: 1. The bass is mediocre. For a speaker this size, it does alright. I also have a JBL Flip 2 bluetooth speaker, and the bass is much more predominant, so my expectations were maybe just a little too high. 2. This speaker is best used indoors. The volume does not turn up high enough for my taste when listening to music. Of course, I am not encouraging you to be "that guy" who cranks up his music when around others in a public area. But when you are home alone and want to listen to some tunes, this speaker will do just fine in your house.

Very good speaker for the size. I use it in my road bike pouch and it is just loud enough riding down the road. Could use a bit more bass but I didn't expect it to thump. I would recommend it.

I purchased the JBL Soundboost mod because the Moto z play phone sound is kind of weak. I thought the full price on the Soundboost was kind of on the high side so I held off on it for a while. I was happy to find the Soundboost​ on sale at Best Buy so I hopped on it. I'm very pleased. I own a few Bluetooth speakers but this is different. Pop it on the Z Play and it fires right up. The sound is pretty good for what it is. Don't expect big bass from small speakers like this. It makes phone calls and music from the phone far more enjoyable. Great at the beach. Of course though....carrying it on the phone kind of makes it a brick. Still worth it to me

This is a great alterative to carrying a Bluetooth speaker. It has a rich sound for it's size. Doesn't seem to hurt battery life on the phone too much.

This speaker will rock you out! It makes the sound boost like you are at a concert. The only thing they could of improved on, is that this dose not fit with the projector, it is either one or the other.

This is an awesome speaker and a back up battery. It is nice to use when listening to music since it has a built in stand.

The ability to dramatically improve your audio volume, depth, and overall quality with a combination battery/speaker is impressive. When adding the valuable feature of magnetically connecting - you go from good to great. It's a scenario in which the accessory is ACTUALLY WORTH IT! Great design idea executed with greatness. LLAP!

When you add this to your Moto Z it just enhances the music so good it's it's 20 times better than the speaker that comes with the phone almost sounds like a small tabletop stereo system

Decent sound quality for the size of the speaker. Does not take up much space when not attached to the phone, portability makes this speaker a winner.

Was playing an Amazon Music playlist with the little JBL mod speaker at an outdoor event and folks from little kids to adults kept asking whose phone that was, how could it be that loud and sound like that? The design of the kickstand seems sturdy, love the ease with which it snaps on (especially with the rubber grip bumper case that only covers the outside edge of my phone so it doesn't cover the back plate - perfect!) and love the nice sound from my phone.
