These are my first speakers in high fidelity and i am absolutely thrilled about them. They look favulous and sound even better, the highs are very clear and the overall outcome is very natural. Its got a huge soundstage and can fill up and small to mid-size room. With the right amplifier im sure they'll do great in just about any room! I was pleasantly surprised at the low frequency response even thought it very much depends on the type of music you're listening to. This is not a speaker for primarily hip hop lovers, but everything else, my god. Dont get me wrong, they do quite well for hip-hop but you're not going to get the desired bass.

Great speaker. If you are looking for details with dynamics and to have bigger sound stage this is the speaker for you . I use this speaker for 60% for movies and 40% for music . Earlier I had Martin Logan motion 15i which was great speaker for movies I love the dynamics of it over R3 but it’s sound stage is small it was extremely directive .. which makes it not good for music in bigger space . I replaced my Martin Logan with Kef R3 in my living and moved Martin Logan to my bedroom . You cannot go wrong with this speaker especially with this sale price .I paired it with Sonos Amp which makes my life soo easy to set up wireless surround sound, wireless sub and streaming music .. Best combination I would say for my simple and minimalistic setup. Thanks to the Texas, Eldarado best buy branch Garrbiel for recommending this speaker

Had to grab these when they were on clearance. Wonderful stereo imaging and mid range. Not super vivid treble, but some people find that fatiguing anyway. Beautifully built.

What can I say about these KEF - R3, these are the best sounding bookshelf speakers out there for the money, I honestly can't imagine the sound getting that much better. Matched with the latest AVR offerings from Marantz, Denon or Pioneer (I've heard them all with these speakers). It's like candy for the ears.

Unexplained Driver Issues

The KEF R3 are extremely great speakers and have a nice soundstage for movies and music. I couldn’t believe the sound that originated from these speakers amazing to say the least. I listened to many albums and re-watched many movies and enjoyed every minute of it. Now, here’s the bad… The speakers are located in my work office, which no one is allow to enter. Upon receiving the speakers from Best Buy they were in immaculate condition, nothing wrong with the drivers. Decided to listen to the system exclusively for a few weeks with the covers attached. Suddenly, the speaker(s) prematurely developed indentions on the woofer(s), which was strange. Remind you I don’t listen too loud maybe -20 to -25db at the most never louder than that. I had other bands of speakers and never seen this issue before as this is unacceptable for speakers costing this much, mind you it’s the second pair within 90 days. My assumption is these speakers should only be used in a music environment and not home theater, but at the time I went another route. I can’t recommend the KEF R3 based on what I’ve experienced and sadly this would be the last time I purchase anything KEF, but love the sound.

Check the reviews. Websites like "whathifi" gave it a 5 out of 5 and called it unbeatable in the price range and I agree. This is a bookshelf speaker that sounds as big as a floor standing speaker, no exaggeration. In selecting the right speaker I have gone through the b&w 606s2, the 706s2, the Fyne F500, and the klipsh rw 51m. The Fyne's had an amazing 3 dimensionality, but they were needling on my ears. Both the bowers and wilkins were very resolving in the highs but honestly sounded "tingy" and lacked oomph. The B&Ws had a metallic aftertaste and we thought the 606s2 sounded better than the 706 even though they are half the price. The KEF R3 are amazing in the low end and the mids, but are not as resolving in the highs. They are still very clear, however, and are clearer than most. They are very pleasant to listen to and very musical, I do not get ear fatigue from them as I did with the others. I am driving them with the NAIM uniti Atom, which drives these beauties well even though it only puts out 40w/channel. These speakers also sound great at low and high volumes.
I definitely did my research not only online but auditioned all the afformentioned in my home before settling in on these. They are a much better sound to my ears and I have only had them one day. My girlfriend is crying a sigh of relief because we have gone through all those speakers and my incessant research on them for the past three weeks! I liked them for movies and for all sorts of music listening and they work beautifully with hifi apps such as Tidal and Qobuzz.
See what your ears say, and don't listen to me either! Go auditon these speakers and see if they are right for you.
The only strike against them is their size, these are very big bookshelf speakers. It honestly looks like they chopped the top off a tower speaker and called it a day. The are beautiful and do a good job of feeling non imposing for how big they are, but you will need space.
Thank God for these, I can finally stop researching and just start listening.

Amazing bookshelf speakers. Pair them with a quality AVR and these sing! The sound stage is huge and the sound is very neutral. Not bright like the Bowers & Wilkins. The vocal sounds amazing. The texture is the artist's voice is maintained. Overall a beautiful piece. Highly recommend them over anything else. These perform better than speakers twice their price.

These speakers are phenomenal! At the price purchased, they were a steal and no-brained to pick up. The clarity, quality and build were to be expected. The R3’s sound great as-is, but I did pick up a sub to further enhance the mid sound. Must buy if you can find them marked down.

These were not at all what I was expecting. They’re a great speaker, but I didn’t like them so I took them back. Fit and finish was great, nicely packaged, nice binging posts (note you have to take the lug completely off to remove the plastic plugs to use bananas). They a sort of a bright, detail focused speaker. Timbre and tone is great through the low mids on up. I had trouble getting good pitch definition from the bass no matter how they were placed or if the port plugs were in. I ran mine with a Yamaha as2200, which is a great amp, but perhaps these would do better with something class D or just higher power. If you’re into micro dynamics and a foreword, analytical sound, you may very well like these speakers. With my amp they weren’t punchy enough. Oh, let me add that these image outstandingly well. Not the biggest soundstage, but instrument placement and a strong phantom center are easily achieved without messing too much with placement. I’d recommended them at the sale price of 1700 or so provided you like a certain sound, but 2200 is a stretch. I think these really need a sub to shine. And, while a sub might add extension, I’m not sure if a sub would fill in for the punch these speakers are missing in the frequencies they do cover. Luckily, exchanging them was super easy and I’ll try something else.

For the clearance price, these are absolutely marvelous speakers! Upgrading from my Klipsch R150M, the improvement is immediately noticeable. The first thing noticed is that how much more details these speakers present compared to R150M. There is a piece of music I've listened to countless times on my R150M, but I've never noticed the sound maracas until I listened it on the R3. But I ended up replacing these speakers with a pair of LS50 when LS50 went on clearance. Why? I'm having these speakers on my desk, I mostly listen to jazz and classical crossover. For nearfield listening, I find the tremble and mid of LS50 are just more clear and crispier. R3 on the other hand sound a bit muffled. Even though it has stronger base, I just find LS50 to be more suitable for the genres I listen to.

These speakers are very high end. Build quality and sound top notch. The better the quality of music recording the better the sound. Pricey but if thats your way of moving around when it comes to high quality sound equipment you understand.
