Great stylish radio yet abundantly rich w/ feature

I did a lot of research to find a great affordable radio with blue tooth audio streaming as the key important feature along with professional adjustable settings. I finally came to the conclusion that the Kenwood DPX501BT was the perfect fit for my application on my 2000 Jetta TDI. I wanted something that looked stock yet gave a bit of glimmer and pizzaz if I wanted. The fully adjustable color settings is a top notch plus, and the RCA outputs for front and rear speakers PLUS the subwoofer make the head unit feel like a good purchase. The built in amp worked great on my stock monsoon speakers but when I hooked the head unit up to a 5 channel amp with subwoofer I am well satisfied. The main important feature I wanted was the Bluetooth connectivity and audio streaming. Once paired to your iPhone, it automatically pairs as you enter the car. Using the head unit for speaker phone conversation works wonderfully well along with using the head unit with Siri and flipping through your contacts. I can list a lot more wonderful features with this head unit but the main important features that work flawlessly are the professional audio adjustment capability and the Bluetooth connectivity with audio streaming.

Was looking for a double DIN unit to replace the factory head unit in my 03 Ford Explorer, and was tired of connecting my phone with cables or cassette adapters so I wanted built in blue tooth without breaking the bank. If you don't care about touch screens or fancy graphics than this is PERFECT. 4 stars because under some circumstances of sun glare the digital display is almost unreadable in any of the colors, but other than that the unit works great. BT integration to my Nexus 5 works nearly flawlessly, and I was surprised that there's full "Pandora Accessory" mode integration even on Android. If I switch to Pandora on the unit, it auto-launches in the background on my phone and resumes playback. Honestly, for the price I feel like the features of this unit can't be beat. One other thing is the tactile-ness of the buttons isn't that fantastic, but everything works as it should. Would buy again!

    So Far, So Good

I've had my deck for about a week now and I am totally in love with it. Originally i purchased the JVC CD BuiltIn Bluetooth Car Stereo Receiver Multi KWR910BT but returned and exchanged for the Kenwood because it had a sleeker look. I had Best Buy install the deck for me and it only took about an hour, so my neice and I just walked around the store. Everything has been working perfectly so far and it's fairly easy to use. I haven't had the time to get the sound setup completely yet and and trying to figure out the Pandora and iHeart funchtions, But I'm sure that will not be a problem.

This is a great stereo but had I read reviews I might have chose a stereo with better features.i love the Bluetooth capability it works great! I love that I can play my iPod and the stereo sounds great the things that I don't like are you have to hit one button to get many sources like to Tuner or CD or USB .very small features hard to see and the clock is not in big numbers it sits at the bottom and is very hard to see. There's good things that I like about it and there's bad things that I don't like about it. Really look at face of stereo to make sure it suits your needs.

    Can't read screen in daylight!

This radio has a lot of nice features, including the plug for charging my phone. However I have one huge complaint. I installed it in a 2000 Mazda Protege, and during the daytime I find it nearly impossible to read the screen. It's very glossy, and acts as a kind of mirror, making it impossible to read the screen! I'm going to take it back to Best Buy (where it was installed) to see if they can recommend a remedy--perhaps there's a matt screen one can put over the shiny screen? Or tip the radio slightly? The other, smaller complaint I have is that the time is displayed in quite small numbers under the radio identification numbers. Since my car doesn't have a separate clock in the dashboard, this is really quite annoying -- especially since I can barely read the screen, anyway!

    Good stereo - Bad display...

I am completely satisfied with my choice of stereo, as far as the functionality and the quality of sound are concerned. Despite my tinted windows on my car, I also am experiencing the same problem as many other reviewers - you cannot see the display AT ALL during daylight hours. With preset stations, this isn't really a huge issue for me (especially since my car has a clock in another location & I'm not depending on this to tell the time...) but it can be annoying and it doesn't seem like it would have been that difficult for the manufacturer to fix. Aside from that, everything works great and the sound quality is very nice.

Great deck to replace your double DIN unit

Recent car purchase, and the previous owners had lost the face to the CD player. The original head unit was a double DIN unit (the current deck installed was a single DIN with a pocket) so I set off to find a nice one with good features. I found this unit in a open box sale, and when I received it, I am positive it had never even been open. Setup is easy, sounds great, looks good, and Bluetooth works flawlessly. I have not tried to use the included microphone to place/receive phone calls yet, just to play music. My only complaint about this unit (like some other reviewers, so I was expecting it) is that this unit can be hard to see when it is bright outside. Overall an excellent head unit, especially for the price.

Read a bunch of reviews before deciding on this deck. Love the looks. Love the sound quality. Love the features, like Bluetooth w/mic, pre-amp outputs, and more! Only thing is the dim display, but most decks out there have the same issue. It's not really that bad, but a little hard to read sometimes.

The only thing that sucks about this product is the display. The clock is small. During the day, it is barely visible. If you don't care about this, it's a wonderful product. It has many ways to connect to your music: radio, Pandora, iPod, bluetooth or even auxiliary cord. It can even connect to your phone to make phone calls. It has all the gadgets. If that's your goal, this product is for you.

The radio is something worth investing into. The bluetooth feature is great! It connects really fast (like 30 seconds) but still faster than my previous Kenwood BT852HD. The audio features are more as well, you have enhanced treble, bass, and mid features which lets you get real in depth into the sound! Then you have SOUND RECONSTRUCTION, which literally is like turning your speakers and stereo into a well sounding system. Overall, great but only 1 thing I have a problem with....which is that after I played with my setttings, BASS BOOST with LOUDNESS will distort the sound especially with an amp.

Sound quality good, decent value for the price paid. But, display is really hard to read - nearly impossible in daylight, faint at night. Menu options and controls not very easy to navigate and set. Had to read the manual, and most of these systems should pretty intuitive or simple. Love the Bluetooth - everything else is ok.

Overall, the Kenwood car stereo is great. I love being able to talk hands free, to listen to my own music through the phone, and to do pretty much anything the phone can so just by speaking in the car. My only criticism is that the clock won't stay set, but I called and they are going to check it out for me.

I bought the stereo a couple weeks ago to replace an older pioneer deck. PROS - the sound is amazing! It sounds a lot better than my 5 year old pioneer deck. - the Bluetooth integration is great. It works with Android phones. You just have to first open the app on the phone to listen music from that app. - calling on the stereo is very easy. - there are a lot of settings and it is very easy to navigate through the menu settings. - the illumination on the deck is nice with a lot of color options. - front USB and aux ports are very convenient. CONS - the viewing angle on the stereo is horrible!!! You have to look at it directly without any angle. The deck is slightly angled on my Civic and I can't view it from my driving position. I have to lean forward every time. - it is not very bright under direct sunlight. Good luck viewing anything in direct sunlight! Conclusion- Very good stereo, I just wish they put a little better screen!!!

this radio is easy to use, easy to install and very practical. Remote control is convenient, BT is awesome. My only complain is the slow response while changing from one source to another. maybe I'm a fast clicker. jejejeje. Also, FM reception is worst than OEM radio but who cares. FM is not used much on my unit. Other than that, its a good buy for the money. If you need more power upgrade to better model or add an amp.

My factory stereo broke down on me and in a pinch I needed something new with CD, tuner, BT, and USB. My brother-in-law and I found this Kenwood and installed it ourselves the very same day on our own. Very problem free installation and the product has been worth its wait in gold. We've had about 60 days now and not a single issue.
